Pros: This was one of the best bed and breakfast we stayed at during our entire trip! Pat and Andy are the most gorgeous and helpful hosts; the room we stayed in was large, the bed was super comfortable and the breakfast was delicious and generous. The location is beautiful and there is a great little pub only a ten minute walk down the road for dinner. My husband and I can't recommend Thistle Dhu enough. Thank you, Pat and Andy!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was just outstanding
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful home and room in lovely Glenlivet. Andy and Pat were very kind and helpful upon arrival and in preparing and serving our delicious breakfast.
Cons: We were not able to locate the checkout time on the reservation, but assumed it would be no earlier than the normal 11am time. At 10:30, Pat knocked on our door and told us checkout was 10 and that we needed to leave right away so they could prepare rooms. They said normally it wouldn’t be a problem but they wanted to get out to see the Highland Games. This seemed an odd request in light of our scheduled visit. However, we packed up quickly and were out within 5-10 on.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was spacious, clean, with all the necessary facilities and the host very friendly and accommodating!
Cons: We loved everything about the place.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything, from the warm welcome, comfortable bed and lovely spacious room. Breakfast was plentiful and I enjoyed the eggs Benedict with bacon and mushrooms. This has been our best bnb stay yet.
Cons: We couldn't fault the the Thistle Dhu
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Andy and pat are the best hosts. They make you feel like you're staying with friends not at a hotel. They even lent us their windbreakers when we went hiking. The location is in the heart of speysides whiskey trail in an especially beautiful area. Rooms and bathrooms are spacious and modern. Included breakfast is wonderful
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely setting, very friendly welcome and the standard of facilities and fit out in the bedroom was superb - one of the best we've stayed in. Great breakfasts - all fresh and hand cooked in front of you in the shared kitchen dining area. Loads of local info - especially on whisky!
Cons: Some people could find the large shared breakfast table a bit off putting - we were Ok with it and both hosts made you feel at ease.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: A modern house in a quiet place, spacious room, very clean, very friendly.
Cons: The bed was too soft for me, but that depends on personal taste.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Pat and Andy were amazing hosts! Thistle Dhu is located in a quiet area with easy access to beautiful walks, whisky distilleries, and other local sights. Breakfast was cooked to order, delicious and featured local Scottish ingredients. The room was very spacious and comfortable. Pat and Andy went above and beyond to make sure our stay was perfect. Would highly recommend Thistle Dhu!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Pat and Andy are incredible hosts! The house and surroundings are tranquil near Glenlivet and other distilleries. Their breakfast is also top notch.
Cons: Nothing, this is the perfect place.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I loved absolutely everything about this B&B! From the moment we arrived we were so warmly welcomed by Pat and Andy! We were then shown to our room which was gorgeous and had everything we could of ever needed e.g robes, fridge, selection of different teas and movies to choose from! The bed was extremely comfy and we both had a great nights sleep. The breakfast in the morning was again fantastic and there was such a great selection to choose from. Unfortunately we had a busy day ahead so we had to set off swiftly but wish we had longer to chat to the hosts as they were brilliant. Would 100% recommend and hope to visit again in the near future. Thank you!

Pros: First class place! Second time here and the experience is again amazing. Perfect hospitality of Dave, wonderful meals for dinner and breakfast, this house is a unique scotish experience. On the top of that, the confort and clean is perfect. Welldone!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Huge bath sheets! To go with the huge comfy bed! Excellent guest lounge facilities. Very quiet and peaceful.
Cons: Didn’t see Red and Ginger (squirrels)
7.5 Good
Pros: Breakfast was excellent. David and Val take a great deal of care in preparing breakfast, and they have great pride for their establishment. The location was wonderful and quiet. Liked the proximity to sites I wanted to visit.
Cons: Was only disappointed by 2 things. My bedroom was under the eaves and the skylight window let in the rain. I had to put a towel on the floor to keep it dry. The weather was warm during our first day and I would have loved a fan. The owners do not have fans. I was confused by the fact there was a dining room but serves only breakfast. It was not clear on the website that meals were prepared only upon request. There was no bar because there is no liquor license so even if we had dinner on site, we would have to BYOB.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was very good. Very remote, quiet location. Hosts made us feel comfortable and welcome. Provided good tips.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful place in a stunning, quiet location. Fantastic, kind & generous hosts. Great place to stay if you're on the whisky trail.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The food was excellent
Cons: We could have done with a light weight blanket and a fan as it was really hot last night
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very comfortable room, in a great location. Easy access to walking/cycling trials. Great base for visiting lots of local distilleries! We particularly enjoyed watching the red squirrels in the garden while enjoying a very tasty breakfast.
Cons: Room on the top floor was a bit warm, but we can’t really blame the hosts for the summer heat wave! Didn’t stop us from sleeping in the very comfy bed, but if you’re sensitive to heat maybe book a room on the floor below.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Dave and Val are amazing hosts and we were thrilled with our stay at Cardhu Country House. The breakfasts were absolutely delightful and if you are lucky enough to have dinner at the house you will not be disappointed. This is easily one of the best places to stay if you are going to visit Speyside.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Cute bed and breakfast in Knockando in the heart of whisky country. Huge, comfortable beds, homemade shortbread and tea and coffee in the rooms, a big bath and fluffy towels are available.
Cons: No real complaints - the walls between rooms are a little thin so you can hear other guests at times.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The food was spectacular. Val could compete with any 5 start restaurant. Dave is a wonderful host. The common room is a great way to meet other people.

Cons: Nothing to add here.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We enjoyed everything about our stay. Very comfortable and beautiful. Great location.
Cons: There was nothing to dislike about The Dowans Hotel
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It is a beautiful hotel near Aberlour Distillery. The hotel is luxurious with rooms named after whisky. Even the keys form the shape of a still :) We loved it! The room is spacious, with plenty of places to pack. The coffee machine is also very useful in the rooms. We only spent one night there. We should have stayed longer, it was so good and close to many distilleries for a whisky tour but our short walk in the nature to find the waterfall was also very nice and the path is very close to the hotel. The staff is extremely kind, the man in charge even made a reservation for us to a distillery and we also got our room earlier than the check-in time!
Cons: It is quite expensive but definitely worth it!

Pros: Les is a very attentive and caring host. Her Scottish breakfast is a real experience.Very welcoming atmosphere making you feel at home abroad. A clear recommendation !
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Les is an excellent hostess - friendly, warm, welcoming, with a passion and huge energy for restoring this former pub which had seen much better days to a comfortable B & B where you feel truly at home. It is right in the middle of the attractive large village of Tomintoul. Some nights she offers an informal but excellent dinner - we had a convivial group of 7, including her. You are immediately made to feel part of the household. We arrived frozen and sodden after a rainy day cycling, but were presented with tea, coffee and a restorative wee dram.
Cons: Whilst some of the property is still work in progress, all the important bits are welcoming and comfortable. If you like boutique modern luxury choose somewhere else, but for a memorable convivial experience, this is hard to fault.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The welcome was wonderful - the tradition of providing guests with a dram on arrival was appreciated! Les was a magnificent hostess: she explained everything clearly, including where we could eat. The room was warm and comfortable, in contrast to the weather - 'dreich' didn't begin to cover it! Les's generosity was shown the next morning over a magnificent breakfast - she had taken in a benighted young man who was biking from Aberdeen to Fort William and given him a bed and shelter. Very few would do this. What a lovely lady!!
Cons: Nothing - all was excellent.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Informal
Cons: Outside let’s the place down and does not reflect the very comfortable and quirky interior. Don’t be put off by the outside appearance.

Pros: very welcoming and friendly host. evening meals relaxed and enjoyable
Cons: shared bathroom
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Host welcome and food quality
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything about Gordon House is warming and homely (albeit in a quirky way!). Les and John made me feel at home with tasty and filling breakfasts and great local tips. On my first night with no idea what to do for dinner I had food with them which was a lovely introduction!
Cons: Really hard to knock it!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Nothing. Somehow I didn't realise that the bathroom facilities were shared but it wasn't an issue!
Cons: Loved the hospitality of the owners, they are so welcoming, friendly and fun! It felt like we were staying with old friends; quirky furnishings and decoration which have so much personality; the full cooked breakfast and so many extras like snacks and lollies; above all the location in a beautiful highlands village and that we arrived on the day of the annual games was a fabulous bonus!! Will be back when visiting Scotland again! Thank you Les and John you are fabulous hosts, keep well and take some time for you too!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Superb place to stay. John and Les were very hospitable and the location was excellent. We had a great time there.

Pros: The best part about this hotel was its staff. Everyone we came across during our 2 days trip was just marvelous and friendly. The hotel was surely busy but these folks worked like they love their jobs. Hats off to the staff. The food during breakfast and dinner was very delicious. My favorite dessert in the restaurant was one of the Raspberry tart and Sticky Toffee Pudding.

Pros: Great location, close to all the distillery's but in a nice peaceful part of town. Taxi's are relatively cheap to get around if you didn't hire a car or want to drink. Really friendly and helpful staff and huge bedroom.

Pros: What a surprise! This beautiful hotel, in Rothes, is a hidden gem. Beautiful rooms, welcoming and so nice staff meeting up. A couple of drams of whisky as a welcome in the room. We stayed in the Macallan Suite, such a beautiful room. Breakfast and dinner in the hotel was superb! After dinner we enjoyed the "Spirit Safe", a bar in the hotel with over 500 bottles of whisky and gin. Do not miss out this hotel, just a 5 minute walk from one of the distilleries, the Glen Grant.

Cons: Nothing except that it could be better value for money.

Cons: Nothing

Pros: Warm welcoming, our host was very concerned with our comfort. She gave us a lof of recommendations for travels and visits and even booked us a restaurant (which was great) close by as we were in an area where eateries were sparse or far. Large and comfortable rooms. Convenient facilities. Delicious breakfast suited for everyone's tastes and preferences. (Vegetarian options available!). We also loved having breakfast with other guests. Carpark in front of the B&B, nature all around!

Pros: Hosts were so welcoming! Such a charming home with excellent breakfast! Diane makes the BEST porridge! And the beds were the most comfortable of our entire two-week holiday!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was excellent. The old manse its self was lovely. Our fellow guests were good company and the owners were welcoming and friendly. The room and the whole building was clean. It was quiet and very beautiful.
Cons: It was a bit far from anywhere. The room lighting wasn't great and the bathrooms were shared - although we didn't find ourselves waiting for the bathroom or WC at any time.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The breakfasts were fantastic. The hosts were really helpful, friendly and generally really nice people. The room was clean and beautifully furnished. The Old Manse is located in a rural area well out of Dufftown, so it was very quiet with great beds. A great location for peace and rest.
Cons: The only downside of The Old Manse is that it is 5 miles out of town and there is nowhere to cook a meal at the accommodation. You therefore need to travel 5 miles for lunch and evening meals.

9.4 Excellent (44 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at this bed & breakfast in Aberlour, you'll be a 4-minute drive from Macallan Distillery and 6 minutes from Cardhu Distillery. Free self parking is available onsite.
6.8 Good
Pros: Excellent breakfast
Cons: Room in pristine condition, but too much overall emphasis on technology, felt rather clinical rather than homely. Misleading profile on website - gave the impression of a house on its own in the country, not squeezed in between other properties, rather claustrophobic. Hosts, though pleasant, made no effort to mix with us and gave no information regarding the outdoor seating area which we were only aware of from dining-room next morning. Property difficult to locate, made worse by lack of local signage and owner's wrong directions - again relying on SATNAV which they wrongly assume everyone uses
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The bed was very comfortable. The room felt cosy and beautifully decorated. The shower was huge and all very modern. Our dog loved the huge gsrden and meeting the owners dogs who were very friendly. The breakfast was delicious and presented perfectly. Pros: Lovely surrondings and a great area at the rear or the accommodation to sit and relax. The host was very friendly and really made the effort to ensure I had everything I needed. Clean and comfortable facilities.
Cons: The only thing I did not like about the accommodation was that there was no lock on my room door.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly hostess, nice room, comfortable bed. Amazing Scottish breakfast cooked by Diane herself.
Cons: Location was not very convenient for whisky distilleries visit. Very far to go by walk (2h), no direct buses, you’ll have to take a taxi if you want to taste whisky.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: I like the hospitality and friendliness, also because of the late flight they let me in at 3.45am I will never forget that. Thank you Diane and Steve.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Excellent stay with an excellent host. Diane was great to chat to and the room was very comfortable with all the modern comforts we could ask for. The location was perfect for our Speyside whisky trail and in a nice quiet spot (5mins from Macallan, 5 mins from Cardhu, 10mins to Aberlour, 20mins to Glenfarclas, Glenfiddich, Balvenie and just about every other distillery!). 9.5 Excellent
Pros: We were given room 1 which had a good size bath tub, a walk-in shower cubicle and a personal dry sauna. The room was very big and the bed very comfortable. The breakfast was freshly cooked and delicious. The place was off the tourist track but the landlord had given very comprehensive direction which helped tremendously. There was adequate parking space and free. There were also some good restaurants in Tomintoul nearby. It was only a short drive to Balmoral Castle. We had to negotiate some tricky B roads around the areas of local great interests but the scenery was worth the efforts.

Pros: The Highlander Inn is perfectly located at the Speyside way with the trail almost running through its backyard. The room was bright and spacious and the seafood pasta for dinner was fantastic. Upon checking out I had a lovely conversation with one of the staff members which definitely made my stay.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: My friend and I arrived here after a horrendous day of walking in torrential rain on the Speyside Way. Drookit doesn’t even begin to describe it! The staff were so welcoming and we were quickly booked in and shown to our room in the adjoining property. After showering and changing we made our way back to the bar and enjoyed a lovely meal plus wine and a couple of drams each. Suffice to say the young member of staff who’d checked us in barely recognised us from our arrival!! We retired to the lounge after our meal and he made sure we were well looked after. Superb selection of whiskies and I tried my first Japanese whisky, what a revelation!! It was amazing. Full marks to Tatsuya and his staff who provide a friendly and efficient service. Both my friend and I plan to return.

Pros: The food at the Highlander Inn was excellent! Much better than at the Copper Dog across the street. The staff was friendly and stopped to chat but also kept pace with the busy atmosphere. There appeared to be many regulars both local and return business travelers. We plan to recommend this Inn to our friends who come to visit this area.
Cons: No complaints.

Pros: Location was good
Cons: The shower in the reason I’m was awful it was almost a drip
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Ubication and the whisky bar was amazing.
Cons: Bed was a little bit old
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Location, atmosphere, quirkinesses. Angus, front of house on the whisky room Quaich, was superb. Great knowledge of whisky
Cons: No hot water, cold showers. Restaurant and reception staff could have been more friendly. Food was average particularly given the prices
5.5 Okay
Pros: Great location, the Copper Dog restaurant was fabulous, both for dinner and breakfast
Cons: This property was recently renovated, but still the carpets on the stairs were frayed, and dangerous. The Quaich bar was, for us, a too loud and non relaxing area, the major issue though was that of the first four whisky’s I tried to order, three were unavailable, implying v poor stock control procedures. Finally, the hotel had a problem with no hot water, starting at 5 pm and lasting at least until we left the hotel at 10.30 am the following day. It was clear the staff were not able to manage this situation, and there seemed to be no urgency to rectify the problem. We complained and were unable to talk to the manager. The senior person on staff finally gave us a 50% discount. However, once I told her that we had posted a negative review on Trip advisor she threatened to withdraw the discount, implying that it was a bribe to avoid negative reviews from a customer. This is a hotel with a very high price point. However it’s facilities do not match this and, far more importantly the management of the hotel is weak and leads to extremely poor service responses when things go wrong.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Everything. Staff and service, room, bed, bathroom, copper dog pub, breakfast & dinner, the quiach whisky bar, location and access to whisky distilleries, all lovely. High quality.
Cons: A little pricey? Maybe not considering the quality, maybe compared to other hotels around...
5.8 Okay
Cons: The room was awkward to get to, in the basement with no view, window wouldn't open, very stuffy and warm. No toilet paper had to trek to reception for same as the the phone didn't appear to be working.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We enjoyed our luxe room and the hotel. Our room was spacious, very clean and comfortable. The hotel is in a great location for exploring the distilleries. We had a good meal that was reasonably priced at the Copper Dog restaurant and also enjoyed tasting several local whiskeys at the extensive hotel bar. With 0 alcohol tolerance on Scottish roads, this was a safe and pleasant way to enjoy a tasting. The staff at the hotel were all very friendly and helpful.
Cons: Nothing.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was great. Location was wonderful and front desk was extremely helpful in securing us a driver!
Cons: It happened to be very hot when we were there and a fan would have been nice.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Charming hotel located right in the midst of the Spey Valley, near many of the sights and distilleries. The Copper Dog in the basement of the hotel was very good, not just for breakfast but for fine dining.

9.5 Excellent
Pros: The warm welcome by the owner, The excellent indication for the diner Excellent breakfast
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely breakfast sourced from local producers.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable B+B house at the northern end of the High Street in Aberlour. Ros and Paul the hosts made us feel immediately welcome even arriving in muddy boots and walking gear. The rooms are somewhat period in character but everything worked and having a bath in the shared bathroom was a real plus for our tired feet. An excellent cooked breakfast was served in the main dining room with plenty of tea/coffee and the toast just kept on arriving, so we were well-fuelled for the next stage of our Speyside Way hike.
Cons: Being located right on the main A95 that runs through Aberlour means that you'll hear goods lorries all night, the noise wasn't bad but if you remember these are mostly servicing the Speyside whisky industry it all seems fair to me...
9.5 Excellent
Pros: It was very quaint, and homely . Excellent location and parking outside.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location and ease to get here and parking. Staff was wonderful.

Pros: The staff. Maurine and her staff were really friendly and helpful. Even when booking.com messed up our stay, she helped us getting a couple of OK rooms despite busy holiday season and scarcity of rooms.
Cons: The food. Poorly prepared. A pity, actually, because it should not be hard to cook a decent meal. The traffic through the city. Immense traffic, lorries, cars all day and all night long.

Pros: Location was perfect for our trip. Staff were great and the breakfast was very good
Cons: The hotel feels very unloved, its a great building but internally it is very, very tired and dated and at £100 a night was expensive for what you got. It is such a shame as it is capable of being a great hotel albeit this will cost money.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: King size bed and view from bay window
6.8 Good
Pros: Location is spot on.
Cons: Very dated, needs an upgrade to decor. Carpets in toilets a no no. Not worth the £110 we paid for one night. 1 teabag in room, Earl Grey, no milk. Whole hotel inside in need of decoration, very tired looking.

5.0 Okay
Pros: The location was good, parking was easy & the staff were friendly.
Cons: The bedrooms are basic e.g. in our bathroom not even a hook on the door to hang a dressing gown and carpet on the floor??? A hole in the main room ceiling where the central light fitting had been once before it was moved a few inches. A musty smell upon opening the room door. Fixtures and fittings and general decor needs substantial upgrade to justify the price charged.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Cleanliness, comfort and friendly staff.
Cons: Breakfast food although tasty should have been warmer, beans were actually cold. Had to ask for milk and teabags for the room.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Spacious, comfortable and clean room. Friendly & helpful staff. Fresh milk for coffee/tea provided on request which is much nicer than those fiddly little UHT tubs.
Cons: Carpet in room could use an update however new owners have worked wonders in a short time.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Excellent Breakfast cooked to order. Great central location for Cairngorms
