This is a beautiful hotel. It is very old fashioned and has a unique character. The staff were helpful. The sleepy little town of Ablour was a great location for our trip to the highlands.
First class atmosphere. Professional, experienced staff. Excellent food and friendly well stocked bar. Room slightly dowdy and in need of redecoration. Bed uncomfortable.
Relaxing atmosphere The furniture in the bedroom was tired and the bathroom was average
The food and the surroundings were lovely nothing to fault about the hotel or the staff, great stay.
Wonderful stay, excellent service and good value for money
Comfort, relaxing, good food and service.
The hospitality, and the food in the restraunt were both excellent. Would stay again The shower in my room was not very good, poor water flow, new showers plumbed to the ains and not 'instant' should be installed
Staff were so friendly and helpful. The hotel was set in a beautiful location and had a lovely relaxed feel to it. The cooked breakfast in the morning was amazing!!! Brilliant stay!
the staff were great and could`nt do enough to help. it was a very relaxing place to stay. and the whisky bar was great! no complaints, lovely hotel and staff... but vegetarian menu slightly limited.
Very friendly and informative owners, comfy beds, very clean throughout. Breakfast
Very nice host. Nice stories. Helpfull. The rooms looked nice.
The rooms were great and very clean! The shower would alternate between cold and hot water and never stayed at a comfortable temperature. The staff wasn't very welcoming, but not rude.
The bathroom, breakfast. Nothing
Nice freshly cooked breakfast Small room with an uncomfortable bed cupboards used as storage by owners
Fantastic, Clean & Tidy. Nothing
The property is well suitable for overnight or a short holiday stay - the rooms are clean cosy & comfortable. The service was friendly and accommodating, and the breakfast was excellent. Rooms are not en-suit (the landlord had a valid & acceptable reason), although no problem was encountered with shared tiolet & bathroom - both were clean & adequate.
Relaxed environment, friendly staff
_Bed _Shower _windows _old tv
Ideal location for purpose of visit No telephone in the room
Sorry we were trying to fill in last questionaire and it got lost. Service was brilliant, value for money good. Staff approachg to cutomers was very good, especially duriong breakfast period. I will give 10 out of 10 on all except you failed on second night when I returned from a gruelling experience as witness at court and you had not replenished coffee and tea making facilities. I was gutted! and too tired to sort it out.A smaal point,n when one comes home afyter buisiness, one does not want to come home to an empty cupboard. I am not having a serious winge, as I have stated service is generally good, but this I found disappointing. In short, bloody gutted! As I have stated 10 out of 10 in all but one. Please remedy this. No coffee, tea or milk on second day. Gutted!!"
It was clean and convenient; staff were pleasant and friendly. Had to walk to building next door to restaurant past smokers.
The hotel was warm, comfortable, the staff were excellent in giving us help, It was exactly what we needed for a short stay. Can honestly say we were pleased with everything
it was comfort there isnt a facilty to help with heating baby bottles (i'e a microwave)
Pleasant staff, clean Thin walls
It was a short-notice arrangement due to the adverse snow conditions. Hotel nearly full!
We arrived before 2pm check-in but staff had the room ready and we were able to get in early which was a big help as we still had a few things to do prior to attending a wedding.
Good sized room, clean, good service, comfy beds, food excellent. None
comfortable bed no
All good None
Excellent. The staff and owners were great. They put us in a room that cost more since they didn't have the rooms we booked due to renovations, yet charged us the lower price. They explained everything, and entertained us as well. The food was excellent and the ambiance was perfect. The best hotel we stayed at in Scotland out of four. It was like staying in a bed and breakfast, they were very personable and entertained us for hours with stories, and gave advice on where to go in the local area for site seeing. Probably one of the best hotel stays I've had in all of Europe. I would recommend this to anyone, and plan on passing on the hotel to my friends that are planning trips to Scotland. n/a
the Eastbank was homely, and clean. The food was plentiful and good, presentation could have been improved. There appeared to be no heating, although it was only early Sept, we thought the heating should have been on, as it was chilly in the mornings and late at night.
Friendly staff - nice area - good food
Our room was exceptional. The staff at the hotel were wonderful, made us feel as if we were right at home and very welcome. It was a wonderful vacation and we would love to go back.
Spacious room with extra length double bed and good sized bathroom. The staff were very friendly and went out of their way to please. Fan in the bathroom stays on for a very long time. The room is on the street and near a youth club, and was very noisy at night (Saturday).
We liked the friendly atmosphere and the willingness of the staff to help
Easy to find and plenty of car parking. Evening meal was fine and good quality but breakfast a bit poor. Single rooms are just a bit on the small side.
Lots of parking, good breakfast, good tv programs, friendly staff. No hot water on my second morning and wi fi is not as widely available in some areas as stated. Bar prices quite expensive.
A maintenance fault was reported to reception and we were told it would be repaired, but it wasnt.
good breakfast staff and public areas strong smell of damp in room carpet had bleach marks shower curtain stained kettle didn't work grout stained black walls paper thin decor and furniture hadn't been updated for at least 20 years
The hotel was very comfortable and the staff very accomodating. food in the restaurant was of good quality, with a good choice and very fresh.
The food was nice in the bar and the refit of the public areas is nice. The rooms and corridors for guests are in dire need of a facelift. Hall and room carpets are filthy. Paintwork chipped. Poor lighting and insufficient lighting in my room. My room was damp and had damp stains at the window and in the bathroom. There was insufficient ventilation to remove the steam when showering. Low signal for television - many freeview channels missing. Scratchy toilet paper. Only a single mortice lock on my door, no yale or multi-bolt system.
Reservation was for 2 nights. Hotel records said one night. They then checked us into an occupied room. One hour to sort. On checkout, the room rate was wrong.
Only the fact that the hotel was near to our friends, who we were visiting. We would normally stay at a local B&B, and will do so again! The greeting was not good, the information on the pool was not helpful, the use of the pool was unclear. We asked for an iron and it took almost an hour to appear. The room felt like a broom cupboard, especially the shower room. The breakfast on the Sunday was a farce! Like Fawlty Towers. There was no milk, juice, dishes, cooked food, cutlery - all of these had to be asked for.
Walls were very thin, could hear everybody walking along the corrridor and was woken up by the occupant of the next room flushing the toilet
Use of leisure facilities included in the reasonable price Young receptionist on arrival was very off-hand and unwelcoming - created a poor first impression. By contrast, an older lady who served us when we left was very friendly and pleasant. This suggested to us that staff training was an issue.
A friendly welcome and an exceptionally good breakfast Not really!
Excellent location, value and facilities. The only thing I would have liked that we didn't have was a sitting room to share with our friends.
It's an easy walking distance to town and great access to the Whisky Trail The bed a little lumpy
Excellent location, just off the main shopping street, with it's own parking. Furniture rather old-fashioned but then it suits the house. Good breakfast.
Beautiful and well equipped accommodation. Nothing
Very friendly welcome Breakfast was outstanding quality with locally sourced foods. The en suite let this visit down very small and the shower was a trickle of water which you had to move around to try and get covered.
Good quality for money as most scottish guest houses. Beats the crap out of most hotels for the same amount of money! No, very good value for reasonable money.
Friendly staff; comfortable room.
Very comfortable bed.
Convenience, clean, comfortable, value Nothing
Generally this hotel is O.K. Rooms are clean. Food was good. Room service was good as I had a very long day. No bath in the room. Decor abit tired. Television sound was poor.
The staff were very friendly and the selection of beers was excellent
Location Upgrade of santiary ware required,
Very friendly staff, excellent food .Comfortable rooms and despite proximity to main road traffic noise is minimal . Hotel is dog friendly which is a bonus
Breakfast was very good. My room was facing the front overlooking the main road which is the access route to the North. It was very noisy and I spent a restless night constantly being woken up by traffic
Good sized rooms, with en-suite, and the most excellent food. Dinner and breakfast were outstanding, with very generous portions. The hotel wi-fi is limited. Could do with a better router to cast the signal further.
Bedroom and en suite were clean. Most staff were very freindly. Food good. Bed very uncomfortable and very old; bedroom decor very dated; public areas dark and carpets filthy
Staff very pleasant. Bedding and towels were nice and fresh and soft.Breakfast was lovely plenty of tea and toast. Rooms were very dated and in desperate need of decorating
Breakfast was good quality as was the evening meal. reception staff friendly. Bed was uncomfortable. Room shook with passing lorry traffic through the night so had broken sleep. No staff in hotel after bar closes
The staff at the guest house was very accommodating and the breakfast, which was included in the tariff was excellent. We were able to park there but it was also very close to the train station if public transport needed. The streets around the hotel were extremely narrow and difficult to navigate but this is not the fault of the guest house (obviously).
Although we drove there, I thought the location very convenient for Railway station and town centre facilities.
Easy to find, very pleasant stay None
Clean, comfort, welcome, nice all round Tv needs to be tuned in, all one want's to do is turn it on not ask for some one to do it for you. then soon has you change the channel over you lose the the lot and end up with a gray screen. please fix this and I am happy
Off road parking and pleasent host and good breakfast. Biker friendly too None
We found this hotel very comfortable, the staff were friendly, and the breakfast was very good, we would not hesitate to use Southbank Hotel again
breakfast times were to early had to wait for meal.room was not cleaned very well and one day not at all
Recently decorated room and bathroom - very comfortable Sunday breakfast re-arranged for 7-8am! No explanation as to why early and very poor breakfast.
The staff were really helpful, great location in the centre of Elgin, fantastic showers and very comfortable beds
