With a stay at Stafford's Crooked River Lodge & Suites in Alanson, you'll be on a river, within a 10-minute drive of Lake Huron and Crooked Lake. Featured amenities include a business center and an elevator (lift). Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Lovely grounds backwards facing towards Crooked River; balcony river view; easy drives to Harbor Springs and Mackinaw City for day trip to Mackinac Island; friendly staff. Our room was spacious and well-appointed. Lovely patio and round-the-clock iced tea, lemonade, coffee etc. Hotel gave us 15% discount card to sister property restaurant Stanford’s Pier Restaurant and we had an exceptional fish dinner there. Everything was well-done. Breakfast is slight step up from the chains (Hampton Inn. comfort Inn) because of fresh eggs and some special granola but it is still the plasticized “continental breakfast”. Peaceful setting. Not a negative just a planning consideration: We now realize the Michigan vacation area is a blend of wooded areas (pine-y rivers and smaller lakes) and more yacht-y areas (Lake Michigan lakefronts). This property setting is woodsy.
Cons: We were there over 4th of July - bit pricey.
Pros: The kayaks and location.
Pros: Staff was very friendly and made us feel welcome. Good location, convenient to Petoskey and Mackinaw without all the craziness of the two areas. Nice outdoor area with access to the water.
Cons: Staffords is known in the area for classy properties, this fell short of that. I travel a lot and was expecting more from a Staffords property. Everything seemed old and outdated, the hallways and room carpet smelled musty and should be replaced, the tile was dingy and needed a deep cleaning. From the outside you think it will be rustic inside, however, with the exception of the main fireplace area this wasn’t the case. Inspite of the few negatives we slept well.
Pros: Rustic lodge with a warm welcoming atmosphere.
Cons: The sound attenuation between floors could be better. You can hear the people above you
Pros: Free use of kayaks, popcorn, tea and lemonade. Staff was very friendly. Breakfast was good. One suggestion for the lodge- hammocks out under the trees would be a nice touch.
Cons: We liked everything.
Pros: The grounds are beautiful and tranquil. I especially liked the boathouse and the paddle boat. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. I will definitely be coming back next year!
Cons: There was nothing not to like.
Pros: I found the breakfast to be above my usual experience.
Cons: The small amount noise from the above floor
Pros: Kayaks, hiking trails, indoor pool, centrally located to lots of things to do. Beautiful grounds. Spacious rooms!! Super clean!! Great coffee! Fresh popcorn!! If you are there in the summer be sure to catch the Young Americans Dinner Theatre at Boyle Highlands. Fantastic!!!!!
Pros: Awesome location on the river and really nice patio with fires
Cons: Pretty expensive for what it is.
Pros: Breakfast was nice and staffed well. Beautiful location, tons of things to do on site. Free lemonade, iced tea and popcorn in the lobby. Kayaks and paddle boats that you can use. Nice pool and game room.
The Ely House is a restored 1800's farmhouse situated on a working family farm of 200 acres. Our family is usually around planting crops, hauling hay, combining, working cattle, or feeding livestock. Cold Creek runs through the middle of our property connecting to the Maple River which can yield sizable brown trout for the experienced angler. The home sits across from many trails that serve for great morning walks and exploring. Returning home to the Ely House for a campfire under the stars, and listening to coyote howls in the distance has always made lasting memories. We've considered ourselves blessed to be right in the middle of the most beautiful land in the Midwest.
With a stay at Continental Inn in Cheboygan, you'll be within a 5-minute walk of Lake Huron and Cheboygan Opera House. Featured amenities include laundry facilities and coffee/tea in a common area. Free self parking is available onsite.
Cons: Needs updating, small
With a stay at Pellston Lodge in Pellston, you'll be a 4-minute drive from Lake Huron and 9 minutes from Douglas Lake. Featured amenities include a computer station, express check-out, and laundry facilities. Event facilities at this hotel consist of a conference center and a meeting room. A roundtrip airport shuttle is complimentary (available 24 hours).
Pros: Across road from airport is only reason to stay there.
Cons: It needs updating hallway carpet is filthy and stained...it is very basic and over priced as location to airport is the only selling point.
Cons: This was not a three star hotel that I am used to. It was clean, but it was completely outdated. I would have stayed at a holiday inn for the same price.
Pros: The pool and pool area was really nice. Salt water pool that was a nice size and a good sized hot tub. Clean and well maintained.
Cons: Really dirty carpeting. Smoke alarm was bleeping so we had to change rooms because there was no one to change it. Desk staff had no new batteries for it.
Pros: The location was good. The front desk was always kind and helpful when dealing with them. WiFi worked well even in room. Even though we didn’t use it, mini fridge and microwave in the room were a nice addition.
Cons: Paid for the room months ahead of time but no record of it when we checked in. The room had dirty stained carpet. Housekeeping cleaned the room but did not leave toilet paper. No elevators for those on the second floor (we had lots of luggage)
Pros: The indoor pool
Cons: The towel were paper thin and for breakfast all they had was Hard boiled eggs, cereal, & Biscuits and gravy.
Pros: Location and easy to find...Breakfast availabilty
Cons: Bathrooms are not clean
Pros: Great staff members. Clean rooms and not to far from Mackinac City. We stay here every year in route to the UP.
