Pros. The location is not bad. Everything else in Amsterdam was booked. This was the only place within 6km of the city center. One member of the staff was helpful. He was at least sympathetic about all of the shortcomings of the hotel.
Cons. Filthy - cobwebs and a lot of dust in the rooms. The rooms are not fully cleaned, and have trash left over that previous tenants left in room. Hot - rooms have no windows, no ventilation, and no AC. They smell bad, are very hot and very uncomfortable. Beds are in very poor condition - the beds are so soft and worn out, two people cannot sleep on them. You inevitably sink into the middle of the mattress. I had to sleep on the hardwood floor instead. Unhelpful staff - The staff could seem to care less about helping with problems. The AC is broken? Oh well, that's just the way it is. The business model of this hotel is based on taking advantage of travelers with nowhere else to stay. The ownership and staff apparently know the place is a dump, but they have no incentive to change as long as tourists and backpackers flood in on the weekend and have no other options.
