10.0 Excellent
Pros: One of my favourite places to stay. Very stylish, comfortable, everything works and is high quality. Very comfortable beds. Very nicely located for the seafront, harbour and town centre.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great location and plenty of free onstreet parking. It was easy to find (Just look for the pink door) and accessing the key from the safe was childs play! A great touch was also to have some biscuits and crisps in the room should you feel peckish!
Cons: The room seemed a little mis-matched with furniute - like it was every piece that had been left over from doing all the other rooms up. Clean, tidy and spacious just needs some final wow touches! Also, as there is not breakfast facilities it would be great to leave a cutlery set in the rooms for those that buy breakfast and eat in :)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The bed was so comfy Unlimited ginger nut biscuits Quiet relaxing space
8.3 Excellent
Pros: It was neat, clean, just the perfect accommodation for a long weekend away. we will definitely recommend this accommodation and come back again ourselves.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: The room facilities were great & the cleanliness was top notch. Lots of thoughtful touches, like a box of information & details. The decor of the room & the whole place was lovely & we had privacy.
Cons: There was nothing that we didn't like & there was nothing disappointing about our stay - all positive! The only tiny not great thing was the hot drinks maker - it is very noisy - would have preferred a kettle!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The bed was amazing. The room was very beautiful. Great location.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent property we could not fault it or the friendly owner. We would recommend highly.
6.3 Good
Pros: Just a standard room. Not that bad. And near the sea front.
Cons: Television so low couldn't see it. No cold water and no fridge. No chest of drawers. If staying for a week in hot weather it would be ridiculous.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Excellent room, clean, fresh and inviting. Gorgeous decor.
Cons: Absolutely nothing to dislike

Pros: The breakfast was fabulous. There was lots of choice of continental buffet and the scrambled eggs and salmon were absolutely delicious. It was nice to be served at the table too.
Cons: We weren't able to access emails to tell us how to check in, so we were hanging around a little. I liked having the security pads on the front and bedroom doors as I didn't have to worry about losing the key.

Cons: the communal areas, (hallway) were a bit shabby and could do with a refurb, which wasn't good for a first impression. Parking can be a bit of a problem so you do need to pre book, and is a bit tight if all spaces taken, there is a car park nearby but you have to pay.

Pros: Lovely quiet location, free on-site parking, proximity to eateries, shops and coast, very clean, tasty breakfast.
Cons: Bed smaller than used to so we didn't find it comfortable at all. Disappointed there was no kipper/fish option for breakfast and found the toasted bread a bit cheap tasting. And annoyed that our registration with personal details was left in a book on a counter at the entrance for all to see.....anyone could have relayed this information to parties interested in homes that are empty. Think this practice may be contrary to GDPR???

Amberley Castle - Arundel - Building

9.2 Excellent (358 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in Arundel, Amberley Castle is within a 15-minute drive of Arundel Castle and Gardens and Arundel Wildfowl and Wetlands Centre. Featured amenities include a 24-hour front desk and coffee/tea in a common area. This hotel has 3 meeting rooms available for events. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: How amazing to stay in a castle. This hotel really is in a class of its own. Our deluxe suite was very spacious with a seperate living area and a beautiful four poster bed. The only contemporary room was the bathroom and that’s always welcome. Seriously good food in the restaurant and delightful staff. Very accommodating and flexible allowing us to watch an important football game in one of the beautiful common rooms. And then there’s Bob, the white peacock. Gorgeous and very romantic
Cons: Nothing
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Loved the castle grounds - beautifully laid out, places to sit and enjoy a garden, or a view over hills, or the sound of a fountain. The room was modern in terms of facilities, but the adaptation had been carried out in a way that left all the features of the original castle building clearly visible. And white peafowl... have never seen white peafowl before, but Amberley has three who stroll around the grounds displaying their feathers.
Cons: We were in Amberley room, and it did have some noise from the Reception area below, from a car arriving at dawn in the courtyard below our window with its radio running and from the peafowl calling at night. It didn't spoil our visit - we will go back, and next time we'll ask for a different room. Amberley room was fabulous, and other rooms are even better...
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The village of Amberley is lovely and an easy walk from the hotel. There is a choice of walks and they even lend you walking boots. Tea shop in the village is wonderful. The grounds of Amerbley invite you to stroll and relax, they are historical as well as beautiful dating back to 1377. The rooms are unique and different and there are lots of interesting corners in the beautiful grounds and gardens. There is a lovely little putting green on the grounds too and is a great location to explore lots of interesting things and places nearby. The restaurant offers a fabulous taster menu well worth the cost.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: THE location is stunning and lots to do locally too
Cons: The service when dining
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was perfect, from the location to the staff to the cuisine and room. Phil and Frankie in particular looked after us in the restaurant and made great recommendations. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. The service can’t be faulted.
Cons: It was raining - completely out of anyone’s control but seriously, other than that, it was perfect.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The building and gardens are stunning and the albino peacock was an added bonus! Beautiful! We were upgraded to a junior suite as it was our wedding anniversary which was lovely. The private access to the battlements from an old door in our bathroom was a fab surprise! The food was amazing - my husband wanted the tasting menu so the chef created a vegetarian tasting menu for me so we could eat together. We will definitely be back :)
Cons: Only that we couldn’t stay longer! It’s expensive but you get what you pay for.

Cons: Absolutely nothing. It was exceptional.

Cons: Nothing not to like
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The Cow Hide is such a cosy and romantic place to stay. The cottage is immaculate; clean lounge/kitchen area, bedroom & bathroom. The bed is super comfy as others have mentioned in reviews. This place has everything you need for a short stay. The breakfast provided is scrumptious and more than adequate for two, the views from the patio of the surrounding fields with Arundel Castle in the background are stunning. Caroline, thank you for your hospitality and looking after us so well, providing great info on where to visit and where to dine. The local pub has a great atmosphere - so good we went twice in a day and is only a short walk away. Walking back under the stars after an evening meal was an experience in itself.
Cons: Nothing not to like.
7.5 Good
Pros: The amazing view and the lovely location are the main sellers of The Cow Hide. It‘s easy to find, comfortable and the host is nice and attentive. There‘s a very nice pub with a beautiful new playground within walking distance.
Cons: For what it‘s worth, it‘s more of a self-contained apartment than a proper B&B. Breakfast is brought to you in a basket and you do your own dishes and prepare your own coffee. It‘s all good but a bit on the expensive side all things considered.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Great views and excellent breakfasts.
Cons: Separate heat in bathroom would have been nice. The tv was very small.
9.5 Excellent

Pros: The breakfast was superb. All freshly cooked in front of us. Plenty of choices. The location was fab and a nice garden and chairs for us to sit outside and enjoy the sun. The rooms were nice and homely.
Cons: Nothing
4.3 Okay
Pros: The location of the property was handy due to us attending a local event. The staff were friendly and accommodating.
Cons: We had booked a room for 2 adults and our 3 year old and had requested an extra bed which was confirmed by booking.com that the host could accommodate it - this never happened and was only informed on arrival that it wasn’t possible which was too late to do anything about! The room allocated had clearly not been cleaned the bathroom had the previous guests hair all over the bathroom, toilet and shower not clean, floor was dirty and had what looked like toothpaste in the sink. Standards well below what I would expect for a wedding venue and the price charged. I was extremely disappointed that due to the inconveniences we had encountered we were still charged full price for the room - I would have expected the host to discount it as a gesture even tho we were moved to another room.

5.8 Okay
Pros: Breakfast
Cons: Room very cramped
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The Steam Packet is a well cared for pub with rooms and meals, ideally situated on the banks of the river Arun and within a gentle stroll to the sea shore. The room we were in had a well equipped kitchen area (cooker, microwave, fridge, etc) with space for two chairs and a gate leg table. So self-catering was perfectly possible. There was a good double bed at the other end of the room with storage space and a bijou en-suite with electric shower. The decorative order throughout was excellent. We had breakfast included - prepared by the owner and his wife - a charming couple who were pleasant to be with. We had never been to this part of the UK before, so had picked Littlehampton because of it possibilities for exploring the area further - railway station, coastal bus route, etc. - if the weather was iffy. As it turned out to be the hottest few days on record, we did very little exploring and went to the beach each day where the sea breeze made it a little cooler. Good sand and pebbles, lots of bucket and spade visitors.
Cons: We were very happy with the accommodation, so have no quibbles at all.

Pros: Very nice and relaxed atmosphere. Owner friendly, helpful and makes you feel comfortable. Also flexible to suit your needs. Would recommend

Pros: Breakfast is great and Mo and his wife are very welcoming. The bedroom is very cosy with a beautiful view.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The inn was beautiful and of a high standard with gorgeous setting. The guy running it was an absolute delight to chat to. If you needed anything to make your stay more comfortable the staff were happy to help and did so promptly. Very close to the station.
Cons: This isn't a dislike more of a wish, Inn is closed during the day and only open in the evening. I would have liked to have had a business lunch there.

Pros: Everything about our stay was perfect, the room with the balcony facing the river is lovely, Richard and Vicky made us feel like king and queen, offering us so much more than just a stay for our anniversary, picked us up and dropped us off at the train station, offering lots of little great adds on (complementary drinks, coffee, cookies, etc), the breakfast was delicious (combination of continental and warm breakfast). We highly recommend their lovely place and thank them again for their hospitality.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: My partner and I were in desperate need of a comfortable and peaceful getaway for a few days and our stay here completely delivered what we wanted. The location was perfect; handy parking and easy to get to from the train station. Quiet yet still a very short walk to all attractions, restaurants and shops as well as a gentle stroll to some lovely countryside. The hospitality was amazing. We felt very welcome yet our privacy was utterly respected. The attention to detail was particularly impressive. The hosts were accommodating and pretty much knew what we wanted before we asked for it. The accommodation’s facilities were spot on: comfortable bed, well supplied bathroom, fridge, tv, a lounge area and two private outdoor areas- the balcony overlooks the river. My partner and I were utterly blown away by the quality of this accommodation and would stay again.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: What a fabulous place and absolutely lovely hosts
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Really fabulous stay and Richard & Vicky made us extremely welcome but got it just right to give us privacy too. Breakfast was superb, much more than we needed but plenty of choice. The room was a good size with a balcony overlooking the river and we had run of the lounge downstairs too although we didn’t end up using it all that much. There were complimentary drinks (including wine and beer) and snacks in the room too. The bed was a bit soft for me as I have a bad back but was still very comfortable. Great place to stay for a long weekend away.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Everything was carefully thought about to ensure we had a very good experience. Richard and Vicky met us as we arrived and after I'd parked in their secure, private parking, they helped my sister and I with our luggage, showed us all the facilities and then gave us plenty of space to unwind with a bottle of procecco on our own balcony, above the River Arun. Very peaceful setting but a level stroll to all the amenities in Arundel. The room is actually a suite; it has a very comfy bed, two chairs, modern high end storage, a fridge and good quality blinds that ensured the room stayed cool in the very hot weather. The main room had the gorgeous balcony and a little lobby area with a separate bathroom. Excellent walk-in shower and everything was immaculately clean, with superb attention to detail. Chocolates, different teas and coffees, fresh milk, spring and plain water, wine, bottled beer... robes and slippers! I felt very comfortable and very relaxed. Downstairs we had sole use of a beautiful sitting room and in the mornings, we could eat breakfast overlooking the garden, or on the patio-we did both. Breakfast was delicious and personally catered for. Vicky and Richard were great hosts, Arundel is a great location for an interesting and good quality break; we highly recommend 'The Rats'Castle.'
Cons: Everything was good.

Pros: Everything.
Cons: All amazing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Our hosts Vicky and Richard were wonderful, the room very comfortable and the little extras like complimentary wine and fresh milk for tea and coffee were lovely. Location is perfect for exploring Arundel and we would go back in a heartbeat so if you plan to visit this area do yourself a favour and stay at the Rats Castle Thank you Vicky and Richard for a wonderful stay
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Vicky and Richard were absolutely wonderful. When they discovered that it was our wedding night, they left champagne and chocolates for us - and gave us such a warm welcome. The room is lovely and we drank our champagne on the balcony, overlooking the river. Perfect! A beautiful breakfast was laid out for us the following morning on their lovely garden terrace. We are both so glad that we stayed in this very special accommodation instead of an anonymous hotel. All credit - and thanks - to Vicky and Richard!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very comfortable accommodation. Excellent, helpful hosts. Lifts to and from station especially helpful. Very good breakfast options. Location in quiet, but central street near restaurants, shops and Arundel Castle very good. Strongly recommended.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The suite was large and luxuriously equiped. It was great sitting on the balcony watching the river flow past. There is only one room for guests so our stay was unexpectly exclusive. We made full use of our private sitting room and the downstairs terrace. We had intended going back into Arundel on the second day but breakfast was so perfect we ended up staying there for most of the morning. Vicki and Richards were perfect hosts. They seemed to be there when we had a question or wanted something and had the great timing not to be there at other times.
Cons: We had to leave

Pros: Me and my daughter were upgraded to the coach house so we had more space to move about in. The fantastic 4poster bed was Uber comfy. We had peacocks outside to greet us. I have been twice before and all facilities and hospitality was reliable. The staff are well mannered so is like going back in time - friendly happy place to spend time. Love the juxtaposition of Tudor and modern barn style spa. Lots of grounds to walk around and feel human again. Very good value for a memorable night away.
Cons: The shower area to spa should possibly be bigger and have more loos.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The most amazing bathroom, delicious food, the height of luxury, what's not to love. My first visit, but definitely not my last.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Everything. Quiet, understated quality hotel. Fantastic amenities and grounds. The spa and (heated) outdoor infinity pool was beauty. Outdoor hot tub too. I didn’t use the indoor pool or gym but they looked good. We walked in the grounds & onto a footpath that took us to the beach. Food was amazing. Buildings were so pretty and thatched roofs were lovely. Croquet, tennis & a double swing in the grounds were good fun too. All the staff were great - they would do anything at all for you. 5 star in every respect. Perfect for a special occasion - it was our 35th wedding anniversary celebration.
Cons: Nothing.
7.5 Good
Pros: Bed great
Cons: Dining room very warm with a nice bar
7.0 Good
Pros: Lovely grounds and buildings. Staff very pleasant. Dogs are made welcome and provided for
Cons: The kitchen really lets this place down. Breakfast did not have fresh juice )from a carton). No alternative breads or milk. Everything fried and oily. A buffet breakfast would be better. Spa café, no health options. Food is pub food, when a spa should promote healthy options and provide vegetarian/vegan options,
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The bed was extremely comfy
Cons: No power point for hairdryer near a mirror
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The gardens were beautiful! Great location. We loved the walk to the beach with our dog. The food was excellent, and so was the service, we’ll definitely be back soon.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: What a fantastic place. Love the layout, facilities were great and the food was top notch.
Cons: Not being able to stay longer!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location and take dogs.
Cons: If you take kids the swimming times are quite restrictive.
7.0 Good
Pros: Really appreciated the attention to detail for our toddlers. The food was top notch, and the rooms were comfortable. The spa was wonderful and the pool hours (morning and afternoon) for kids was excellent. It is a few minutes walk from a beautiful rocky beach
Cons: They have peacocks on the property, and there are two in a cage very close to the bedrooms, so we were kept up by their loud screaming. When I asked reception about this, the lady literally yelled at me about how these peacocks are young and need to be protected, etc. totally missing the point. On a large estate such as this one, there is plenty of space to host a peacock cage without annoying customers who are trying to sleep!

9.5 Excellent
Pros: Staff were wonderful
Cons: Rooms description didn’t describe room fully and also on your website it didn’t show that there were two different 4 poster rooms.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Good location for walking to the Marine beach, West Beach and to the high street. Good parking also.
5.8 Okay
Pros: NIce bathroom and pool looked good although we didn't use it. Breakfast was well cooked although choice was very limited.
Cons: We arrived and took our drinks out to the garden, all the tables were filthy although the garden itself was pleasant. The room itself was not to my taste - there was nowhere to sit apart from a dirty dining chair and no luggage rack. Bedside lamps were so ridiculously big that there was no room on the bedside table. Duvet cover was about twice the size of the duvet and ripped in several places. Worse thing was a member of staff swearing aloud in the breakfast room after a guest left his key on the table. A fan was supplied but could not be used on the shelf as it hit the wall.
7.5 Good
Pros: Very unique and interesting hotel. The room was comfortable and clean. Staff were very helpful.
Cons: The room was a bit hot and stuffy however fans were provided which helped. There was also no vegetarian alternative cooked breakfast, it would have been nice if some vegetarian sausages or similar could have been offered.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: the beds were comfy the pillows were good the food was lovely
Cons: air coditioning it was really hot in bedroom
5.5 Okay
Pros: Great location and not far from the sea. Parking was available which is great and check-in and out were dealt with swiftly and efficiently. Staff were polite.
Cons: This hotel had a sad feeling - you could tell someone had loved the place once but the décor is now tired and tatty in places and the decking outside doesn't appear to have been cleaned in years. The furniture in the rooms is unusual but very large, making what are well sized rooms feel quite cramped. At over £100 / night the hotel is nudging into the more luxury end of the market but this is definitely a budget hotel. Toiletries were not replaced (so take shower gel if you're staying more than one night) and the bacon & sausages were very cheap - the latter quite grisly. If the charge was £60 - £75 / night I would have given this hotel a good revue, but they are trying to be something they are not and for the price of a room it isn't good value.
5.0 Okay
Pros: I stayed due to the location and the garden is a nice touch
Cons: In comparison to other hotels at a similar price point like the Hotel Du Vin it was very poor. No options for Vegan or Vegetarians, limited drinks and food in the bar, Poor service, No air con, Gym is not a gym - two pieces of cardio equipment No options past 11pm
9.5 Excellent
Pros: It was like the land that time forgot but with modern comforts
Cons: Nothing
7.0 Good
Pros: Character of the hotel (panelled and carpeted and little old fashioned). Garden was pleasant and location was good for south coast and immediate South downs area. The food although limited in choice was very good and at a reasonable price.
Cons: It was very hot in our room despite open windows - more could be done to cool down the corridors. The taps in the bathroom take a bit of getting used to and the sink needed unblocking. There was some mould around the shower and the bed frame was chipped. Some people may not like the fanciful décor of the bedroom
7.0 Good
Pros: Looks very charming and quaint, in a very quiet location.
Cons: Rooms were stifling hot, not even cooling down in the evening.

Pros: Good location & friendly staff in the bar and restaurant.
Cons: Maintenance of the bedroom and bathroom could do with some attention and the lush selection of gin cocktails enjoyed last year weren’t available unfortunately.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: To be able to have a drink at the bar after a long day travelling.
Cons: Nothing
8.8 Excellent
Cons: Stain on the bed sheets in the pelvic area.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The staff member called Harry was so helpful!! All the staff were great.
Cons: The bed felt a little bit hard.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Tasty food, both at dinner and breakfast. Nicely decorated room, comfy bed, plenty of towels, including bathrobe and slippers. Friendly serving staff at dinner and breakfast.
Cons: Staff member could have been a bit more welcoming on arrival, service at breakfast a little slow to get drinks and toast. Bathroom needs a refresh, particularly shower.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Attractive pub, ideally situated. Staff friendly and helpful. Lots of “ extras” in the room, eg slippers, dressing gowns, biscuits & I especially liked the small flask of cold, fresh milk. Excellent breakfasts.
Cons: The disappointment was the size of the room. One person had to move to allow the other to move. The en suite was also very tight for movement and could have done with some refreshment of decor/ shower curtain etc.. I did mention the size on leaving but really I should have requested a larger room initially and I feel sure they would have accommodated us .
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast very good and staff very friendly and helpful.
Cons: Room was very tatty and tired with wallpaper and ceiling paper peeling off, also very noisy with a/c units outside the window. Also disappointed that the roast beef and pork were both sold out when we asked, nothing else of interest on the Sunday menu. Had to eat elsewhere.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: A beautiful room, kind friendly attentive staff, in a beautiful location. Breakfast was of an exemplary standard, with multiple choices and an amazing array of fresh fruits. Thank-you!
Cons: Nothing - a perfect stay. Everything about the hotel, staff, cost, food and location was perfect.
7.0 Good
Pros: I have stayed here several times due to the usual quality of the rooms and it’s proximity to Goodwood racecourse and it’s location in the heart of pretty Arundel. Hotel has a nice bar and good breakfast and the staff are nice.
Cons: Overall level of cleanliness was not of its usual standard with lots of dust on the bedstead, phone, dressing table and doors. There was no shower gel or hand wash/soap provided and the shampoo was not replenished. The used towels were removed but not replaced and there was no bath/shower mat provided either. This was raised with the management who were very apologetic and offered a small discount however we were not the only guests who had issues which is a shame as previous stays have always been excellent.
