Pros: The historic charm , sitting room with fireplace and downstairs bar and dining room. Location on Lake Superior added to the experience. Very friendly staff-was greeted immediately upon entering the hotel.
Cons: Check in staff member was condescending. Didn't need that after a full day of travel. Remaining staff was great. This hotel does not exceed a 2 star. Would have stayed the full 10 days but decided to move to a real 3+star elsewhere for much less $$.
Pros: Lovely building and grounds.
Cons: The price.
Pros: Gorgeous view, beautiful hotel with so much character!! Great restaurant and amazing deck to enjoy Lake Superior!
Pros: The hotel was immaculate with lots of history. The staff was very friendly. The food was great and not overpriced. We really enjoyed the decks overlooking the bay. We enjoyed our stay and hope to return.
Cons: The bathroom was too small but very clean.
Pros: Prime location with beautiful views right on the water.
Pros: Old world charm.
Pros: Beautiful building and location.
Pros: A very nice room with a lovely view of Lake Superior.
Cons: The most rude nighttime front desk person I've ever met!
Pros: The view of the lake was beautiful and the history of the building the clerk told us about the hotel was fascinating .
Cons: The mattress on the bed was uncomfortable , one side rolled into the other.
Pros: I liked that the staff was super friendly and helpful. The breakfast that was included was great, it was nice to have a fresh hot meal for the continental breakfast. Our room was spacious, we didn't feel like we were crammed in together. We had a nice balcony that overlooked the lake, with beautiful views.
Cons: The only think I would say I didn't like was the mosquitos, although I don't think that could be helped to much.
Pros: The hotel is located right on the water. There is a fire pit with lounge chairs and rooms have water views.
The hotel is a pick-up point for the Big Top Chautauqua concerts, which was convenient.
Cons: There were not enough outlets. The table lamp could not be plugged in. The coffee maker had to be moved from the "kitchen" to the bathroom counter for use.
Tub had no drain plug.
WIFI was intermittent.
Breakfast was a mob.
There was more highway noise than expected. The hotel is laid out in a W shape and our room was located at the base of one v. The highway noise was funneled toward our room regardless of which direction vehicles were traveling.
Pros: It was very clean and had some nice little touches and attention to details (like mints on the pillows, over abundance of towels, shampoo AND conditioner) that we hadn't found a lot of places lately. We have kids and got a room pool side (saw a lake side room too, the view was wonderful). I can imagine it could get loud in the room if there were a lot of people swimming, but we were there on a Monday and were the only ones using the pool most of the time, plus the hours are 9am-10pm so it would obviously be quiet during the time you are sleeping. The breakfast was good, fast, and very inexpensive. Overall we really enjoyed our stay.
Pros: Rooms were clean and the staff was friendly and helpful.
Pros: I like having a loveseat, coffee pot, frig, and microwave. The bath soap is nice quality. It's nice to have makeup remover provided. Overall I like the rooms very well. Breakfast provided is convenient. The coupon for a cocktail is a nice perk.
Cons: 1. No upgrades or gift bag in spite of being an Elite customer. No free water bottles in the room like I get at other AmericInn locations.
2. The wall sconces were unplugged. It was necessary to move the bedside table to plug them in. (Not cool in a handicap accessible room.)
3. The coffee pot was not plugged in. (Not cool in a handicap accessible room.)
4. The shower head was more than 6' above floor level, at the very top of the mount, which is useless in a handicap accessible room.
5. The carpet was not nicely vacuumed next to the bed near the bedside table, lots of lint.
6. The entrance area to the lobby is shabby, especially the carpet.
7. At breakfast, there was no half and half for coffee (only artificial creamers) and no real butter (only margarine). C'mon, this is Wisconsin, the dairy state!
7. The front desk clerk balked at my request for a printed receipt. The manager needed to intervene.
Pros: This hotel badly needs renovation! Beds uncomfortable!
Pros: My regular place to stay was booked, so I booked here. It was decent. Water park looks alright for younger kids. We didn't use it, and thankfully we were far enough away from it that we didn't hear kids often. Breakfast is better than average. Parking lot has plenty of space.
Cons: All I needed was a place to sleep. I didn't need the extras amenities. The extras cost more, but if used are worth it. This is my second choice in Ashland. Price seems a little high, but then again it isn't the 1990's any more. Chain hotels are all priced this way.
Cons: The breakfast was cold cereal and bread, the area was so small and we sat down the hall in a separate room. The desk clerk was not helpful and would not use eye contact and we felt we were bothering her. The towels were scratchy. The pool looked dirty.
Pros: easy access - good location
Cons: Very disappointed with the bathroom in the room. Toilet was a very low round fixture and lavatory had no vanity counter space.
Pros: Very nice & clean modern rooms. Bed was comfy and there was a microwave and mini fridge. Can't beat the price ----bucks for a Friday night! If you're going to Bayfield & the islands and don't mind driving 20 miles, i definitely recommend stay
Cons: Nothing major really. The only thing is that the hot tub & pool were dirty and only 1 pillow for each person & they didn't have any extras.
Pros: Location, good service
Pros: Very clean and quiet. Good for our one night stay.
Cons: Large power plant on the shoreline in front of the hotel made for an eyesore.
Pros: Great location. A simple breakfast was included.
Cons: We stayed multiple nights and no one cleaned our room. The woman at checkin was very rude and double charged me. Multiple staff did not know how to reverse the charges. Hotel smells musty.
Pros: Nice sized rooms, clean, nice decor.
Cons: A little spendy for what it was, just an average breakfast.
Pros: The hotel has recently been remodeled. I've stayed there several times before, the last in September 2015,and it was always clean and comfortable. The recent remodeling has enhanced the experience of the stay.
Cons: An inconvenience, hotel has two levels with no elevator. Ten years ago this would not have been a problem. I now have a physical handicap. The desk clerk recognized this at check-in and reassigned us to a first floor room without me having to request it.
Cons: breakfast did not include any kind of protein such as hard boiled eggs
Pros: very sweet and accommodating staff
Cons: nope! they don't have a gym on location but provide complimentary passes to a nearby one
Pros: The location is great. It's on the western edge of town, and just across the street from the lakeshore. The woman working in the office was very polite and helpful when there was an issue with the booking. It felt very safe, and most of the room seemed clean- sheets, sink, etc. Older, but generally comfortable furnishings.
Cons: The wifi was awful. The signal didn't reach most of the room at all, and where it did it was very weak.
While most of the room felt clean, there were two exceptions- the windows and window sills were filthy. All sorts of grime and dust frame the beautiful lake view. The shower was also full of mildew- ew.
Wash your windows and window sills, scrub your showers, and maybe get a better router or a range extender, and I'll definitely be back!
Cons: dirty and not much service
Pros: THe owner was kind. The pillows were NICE.
Cons: THere was no bathtub (not advertised when I booked). There were two measly thin bars of soap and no shampoo (I was doing very hard, dirty fieldwork and a real tub with sufficient soap and shampoo would have totally changed my review.)
Pros: Location was awesome!
Cons: Motel very dated (light fixtures had duct tape holding lens cover on)! Not very clean. We brought our own blanket in because we didn't want to get under cover! Just a general overall "buggy" feeling! Will NOT stay there again!
Pros: A room was available
Cons: The smell
Cons: Dirty AC did not work smelled
Pros: I did like the location and the person running the placed seemed very friendly.
Cons: This room was not very clean and the building is in need of repair. The floor on the corner of the bathroom looked like it was being pushed up from below. The room was very dirty, the windows and A/C unit allowed the smoke from the smokers bench into the room.
