Location was perfect, breakfast was enjoyable and tea and coffee making facilities were also appreciated. Bathroom was clean and comfortable. Bed was hard, in room 125 we did hear what sounded like kitchen staff outside in the court yard talking late at night but it might have been residents. When checking out I was going to be charged £160 per room (booked two) which is a total of £60 more than my advertised online fee. I questioned and was told I definately booked at £160 a room. I had to dig out my printed receipt for confirmation of £130 and although the lady on reception changed the price no apology was given. When we asked for our car we were told to go outside and find the car porter, not something we expected when comparing the quality of service prior to checking out.
The food in particular No
The staff were excellent, friendly, and competent. Also, I like the free wi-fi.
modern style of bedrooms - was able to have a room on the grond floor - great breakfast
Lovely hotel, very good atmosphere.
I would particularly commend Zoe as an excellent receptionist:smart, friendly and professional - an angel in fact!. The hotel itself is a rare example of a family run good quality hotel which is not run by a chain. My stay at this hotel transformed a necessary business trip into a real pleasure.
Parking facilities very efficient Room comfortable and clean. Staff very friendly and helpful Was the hotel aiming for modern or old? We were disappointed by the aimbiance of the restaurant as we found the seating poor and the music too loud. The lounge area was also not very comforatble. Perhaps we remember the Angel of old. These are observations not complaints.
Very good breakfast. We had a spacious and quiet en suite room. I gathered that this was a recently modernized or added room, and that there were other rooms that had not yet been upgraded to this standard. The modernized bathroom looked very smart, but the design was 'too clever by half': The washbasin had a plug, but you could only use it by unscrewing it from the base and turning it upside down over the plug hole. I prefer a shower that is not fixed into the ceiling but can be manually moved about. The shower cubicle floor was slippery: a health hazardThe way of getting hot water was gimmicky, and you have to read the instructions (for which you need your glasses). No hooks in the bathroom either. Pity to have spent so much money on such gimmicky installations. Some of the lights in the suite could not be switrched on or off separately.
Modern design, great breakfast Only a pay and display car park
the Portugese chap who whisked our car away on arrival and produced it again when we left
I am disabled and there was always a disabled space for my car and the staff were friendly. The hotel room was not clean. On the surface it looked clean but when I laid on the bed the wall behind was covered in dust.
The staff were very friendly and efficient. Breakfast was great.Beds were comfortable and the rooms was lovely and clean. The room was fairly cold even though the radiator was on. The plumbing needs to be sorted. I tried to run a bath and only a trickle of water came out and that wasn't very hot. So,I tried the shower and it was the same.
The only fault was that we did not realise that the radiator in the room had been turned off and therefor the room was on the cold side due to the time of year.
the hotel has good faccilities and our room was pleasant. Breakfast also good we were put in a room directly above a very loud party. The hotel refused to compensate us in any way for the fact that we couldn't sleep
Good breakfasts. Comfortable bed. Warm room. Hotel did not fix shower head even after we asked twice. Window would not shut. TV signal was poor. Not happy that I was asked to pay for the room when I arrived, even though money had come out of my credit card account the week before. Not happy that we were asked to pay for breakfasts as hotel didnt think breakfasts were included when booked through Bokings.com. We had to show your email as proof as they had not been sent a copy of your email, allegedly.
checking out evening restaurant service, crap
Very large bathroom. Restaurant staff gave good service. Newspaper arrived early. No telephone in the room so although I was asked if I would like a wake up call it never arrived.
nothing due to the smell and unclean feel of the hotel we did not stay the night. the hotel needs some serious renovation. upon checking out (within an hour of checking in!) we were still charged the full amount despite stating the above
Excellent value, good food, friendly hotel staff. Although efficient the bar staff could have been taught to smile.
The location, very good Hotel very run down, staff not very helpful, ive stayed at the bell three times over the years as we race at snetterton racetrack and each time the hotel looks a little tired,it needs a little tlc dont think we will stay next year.
Booking in was easy, the rooms were a good size and presented well The restuarant experience was extremely poor.
Food was suprisingly good given the environment but the breakfast was very expensive for what it was The entire interior is in dire need of a make over and the location is right alongside the A14 so is very noisy day and night.
close to bury st edmunds breakfast / dinner in restaurant too expensive for choice offered
Excessive traffic noise. The need to keep window closed made the room V. hot & stuffy.Public areas-bar & dining area were cold and didn't encourage a lingering meal or drink afterwards.Food surprisingly good in the evening but buffet breakfast poor &coffee awful,so much so we skipped breakfast on the 2nd morning (bought rumbout filter type coffee & fresh milk for use in our room instead) Receptionist tried to put a flat advance charge for meals/drinks through on my card upon arrival ! I suppose this indicates the average level of your customers. We wouldn't stay again. See above
Good location for Bury St Edmunds. Comfortable rooms. Friendly staff.
The taps and shower that either scold you or freeze you and nothing inbetween and the atrocious attitude of the staff when I told them about it....'oh well, are you paying on the same card'...................
Breakfast was poor value
Friendly and efficient staff
Couldn't fault this hotel
easy to park large size vehicule bathrooms from 1980 internet acces not free of charge and impossible to get a connexion
Friendly service providers who took the time to visit with you. They were polite and very caring Location to town was perfect. The room was fabulous. Breakfast and dinner were good. I had a guest who did not like dinner and they replaced it with something else no problems. They definatly cter to making you want to return.
Lovely well decorated rooms. Good service from friendly staff. Good location for exploring Thetford's historical past. A noisy extractor fan in the kitchen sent a low vibration into the room the first night we stayed that disturbed our rest. We did not hear it the second night. We were awoken at 3am on friday night by noisy lads congretating with their cars across the road from the hotel.
I think the accomadation is overpriced
Nothing cleanliness service no hot water scruffy proprietor
Nice family orientated bed & breakfast set in very peaceful and lovely countryside location run by lovely young couple. Anything extra you required you just needed to ask. Would definitely use again.
Nice rural location Would have liked a shower rather than a bath
Not much the views were good and it was clean breakfast ok fruit cornflakes fry up and toast. very unwelcoming we felt that we were intruding in fact me and my daughter were quite frightened. bed broke when my daughter sat on it she is only small in size breakfast he needs to learn how to cook eggs all very snotty and thats scrambled unable to report bed as notone around
Excellent meals and service.
Good leisure centre and well appointed rooms with friendly and helpful staff. Could do with a bit of a refesh as it is tried looking in places.
Very friendly and accomodating staff; good leisure facilities; clean, large, comfortable room. Breakfast was not up to same standard as evening meal, but ok.
The staff were extremely kind, polite and helpful. The room was a good size and very clean with views over the golf course. The hotel was an ok place for a stop over but it lack atmosphere and needs upgrading. The 'spa' is not what I call a spa and these facilities were pretty poor - watch the clorine levels inthe pool and too high. The pool area needs a good clean and upgrading - it is not a spa!
Both the Golf and Spa were great value for money
Small point but no earl grey tea available.Breakfast pritty basic
Poor standard of decor in rooms, infuriating lack of signs around the place making finding your room very difficult, one receptionist meant ling waits at the front desk and definitely not worth the money. Lack of signs, poor state of repair, under staffed.
Rooms excellent, and very comfortable bed Food service at the bar was very slow on one occasion - it took an hour for a bowl of soup!
Staff were very friendly and extremely accomodating. At breakfast the hot items kept running out so had to wait for items to be replenished. Bathroom could have been cleaner.
Lovely spacious room, excellent views. Could hear the room next door quite loudly. The staff in the restaurant were a bit miserable.
We arrived to a very warm friendly welcome and shown to our room and shown where the bathroom was etc to drop off our belongings and then was offered refreshments in the beautiful garden. The room was fresh looking and very clean and welcoming, in the room was everything you would need including wash basin, kettle with complimentary tea coffee and sugar and hairdryer in the bedside cabinet, tissues and pen. We found our stay at this hotel fantastic and breakfast was amazing too. a big huge thank you to Vicky and Kelsy the staff x x There is nothing not to like this hotel is 5 Star x x x x x
We had a lovely overnight stay, ideal location for Newmarket races and Thetford Forest. Breakfast was very good and owner very friendly and hospitable.
Warm welcome, comfortable bedroom, and generous freshly-cooked full English breakfast Shared bathroom was a disappointment for the price
Quite location helpful & friendly staff, meals very good nothing to much bother - staff responded quickly & professionally Everything fine
A delightful country house hotel in its' own grounds. smartly decorated, clean, comfortable, good bar & much above average restaurant...all the things that make a good upmarket country house hotel.
Poor cooked breakfast
Very friendly, welcoming staff. Lovely gardens with plenty of opportunities to sit down although a bit damp to make the most of them.
Excellent room in a tranquil setting, wished we'd had longer to stay to enjoy the amenities and garden setting. Nothing
Location was very peaceful, staff were very helpful, lovely countryside views, food was tasty albeit overcooked. Bathroom in Kingfisher could have done with updating.
Quiet Far from town
everything. it was excellent. Beautiful surroundings, food was excellent, the rooms and service was wonderful. Will be going back again very soon.
Staff helpful and friendly , evening meal very good with good choice, breakfast excellent. Since hotel was quite for our stay operating on muinimum staff and bar unmanned for quite long periods
Lovely atmosphere and situation. Friendly and helpful staff. Food excellent, bed comfortable. A great base for a relaxing week.
The staff were friendly and the hotel was in the perfect location for us. The shower was disgusting, hadn't been properly cleaned for a long time. There was an unpleasant smell around the entrance corridor to our room. We had to wait for ten minutes to check in as the receptionist was not at the desk and the person covering wasn't able to check us in.
Hotel was excellent set in lovely grounds
Nice good sized rooms Resturant service very poor
Friendly and comfortable, good food in the bar. Would have preferred to pay by credit card as your notification said was possible without extra charge. But this did not appear to be the case.
Helpful Staff A Bit soulless
The staff were extremely helpful and the service was excellent. The grounds were breathtaking and the it was obvious a lot of money has been and is being spent on the buildings. I was also upgraded for free to a lovely first floor suite overlooking the gardens as the hotel was not fully occupied that night. This had been decided upon prior to my arrival and was an unexpected added bonus.
good service good food, and peace and quiet
Quiet, friendly, welcoming hotel. Staff were very helpful and accomodating. Lovely gardens, food was excellent and overall we had a fantastic weekend. Breakfast was lacking fruit, although they did have fruit bowl available on Sunday. Room was generally clean but a few areas had been missed, I.E. cobwebs visible around bath legs. Also bubble bath was not relaced.
Attention to detail. A great place for a wedding. Nothing i didn't like.
Friendliness of staff, manor house and location excellent plus food superb
The welcome and helpful proprietor
Wereham House has a lovely warm atmosphere which is created by Caroline and Andy who are the charming couple that run this small hotel. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they always had time to chat. ( We also loved Murphy the dog who greeted us in the car park!) If you don't like dogs, don't worry he is no way intrusive will just say hello and then leave you to it) The hotel is in a very convenient spot, within easy walking distance from the local restuarants, pubs and shops. We left our car in the car park for the whole weekend, as we were visiting relations who live in Thetford and just walked everywhere. The breakfast was very good, plenty of choice and well coked and presented. We didn't actually eat in the restaurant as it was fully booked both nights with a function. We will definitely stay there again. This is not a complaint but just a helpful hint. Under the carpet in the bedroom there were some holes in the floor which was a little off putting as you kept catching your foot in them. (Its quite an old building I understand but I think the floor needs looking at or at least in room 3 which we had. Also the shower had some mildew both inside and out, all it needed was one of the mildew sprays left on for a day and that would have done the trick. The hair dryer kept cutting out and it was impossible to dry your hair by it.
Good location, splendid breakfast, extremely friendly proprietors Shower/toilet a bit cramped
Greeting and service
Quiet location. Secure parking. In town centre. A little difficult to find. Directions need to be more detailed.
We found the Manager and Staff very polite and helpful in all our needs. We were there for a family party and we were given a main door key so as we could let ourselves in without having to wake the Staff. The room was very clean and comfortable and the breakfast was very well presented. We would diffenitely recommend this Guest House and also would use them again as our first choice. There was nothing that we did not like about this Guest Accommendation, it was perfect.
The staff were very welcoming and friendly and the breakfast was excellent.
None The hotel is advertised as 4 star, but it is more like 1 star. The rooms are very small, badly decorated, and the noise from the Saniflo's and the adjacent occupants is overpowering. A very poor example of a hotel.
Parking was good, beds were good & clean, breakfast was OK 1. Old Bathroom & poor shower & a certain smell - damp covered by airfreshners. bathroom looked like it had been given a coat of clean up paint and nice towels to cover the basic inadequacy of a worn out facility. 2. Dining experience was old British boiled food standard & dinner was disappointing . (and we do not really want to see the waiters knees though I understand the informality). To be honest the idea that it was a 4 star hotel was off the mark and we came away feeling that the cost was too much for what we received in return.
Good size room with view of quiet street Thought room may be a little cold in winter ... one radiator .
friendly family run hotel, staff most helpful and acconodating. we will be going again.
Size, design and finish of bedroom was very good. Welcoming and attentive staff. Good food in a relaxed atmosphere. Nothing.
Wonderfully helpful staff, superb room and well presented good food.
Friendliness of staff and quality of food
I rather liked the thoughtful layout of the rooms: the quality of service and food at the Restaurant: and the willingness of the staff to help wherever they could Only the proximity of an A road (by the front door) but that is not really something easily solved
Food and service was excellent None
Friendly very good food and superb accomodation. Liked everything.
Excellent food, good sized and well planned room, excellent shower
We spent two nights in one of the four poster bedrooms in the newer part of the hotel. The room was beautiful and although we have stayed in some lovely hotels previously this room was probably one of the nicest. The en-suite with huge shower was lovely with some lovely extra touches. Can't wait to go back for another weekend.
Everything the style of the rooms and the staff were so friendly the breakfast was wonderful I miss it now. Ummmm im normally picky but there were none
The idea was to have a break from the real world and it managed to just that for us!! It wasn't long enough!!!
The idea of staying in such an old timbered building, however reconstructed it may be. I thought the dinner menu was not varied enough, though the quality of the cooking was pretty good.
Rooms were lovely Having boked into our room , we went down for dinner ,waited to be called in for the sitting , only to be told that the resturant staff did not know that were were staying ??? 20 tables empty , but we had to go back to reception to sort it out. No one said sorry !!! we were made to feel very small ! staff very snobish .
The fact that the menu says 24 hours room service available but it was only true for a very limited choice of meals.
Good room, good food, attentive staff. Very enjoyable.
Very friendly bar staff There was no hot water in my room. This was mentioned to the receptionist who said that they were having problems. Not the answer I expected!!!
The service of the staff was excellent. The position in the town was good. The unasked for free upgrade was fantastic. The resturant first class. Look forward to staying there again.
Very attractive and characterful hotel; comfortable and friendly; excellent service.
the hotel has its own charm and has very professional staff even some at a young age! parking away over the road was not secured ie gates, camera etc
There was a lot of mould around the bath which needs resealing
clean comfortable will stay there again. nothing
Excellent room, good size and features. The pub/restaurant to which it was attached served excellent food both evenings and breakfast. Great staff and service. Only slight point was a feeble shower but it did work ok and didn't stop me really enjoying my stay- might have been just my room
Hotel was clean and tidy, with friendly staff. Only bbc on tv so very limited on viewing as reception very poor
Nice Cosy quiet thatched cottage appeal. Friendly attentive staff
Very friendly staff, excellent food. None
Large spacious room. Very private. Easy to find hotel.Very clean. Good breakfast and lunches available. Good pleasant service and relaxed atmosphere. Free parking Minor point, Plug disconnected in bathroom basin
No bad points at all
Lovely friendly inn. My (disabled)room was excellent, the bed was better than mine at home! Apart from the toilet seat the room/bathroom was beautifully clean. Breakfast was great, served by a very smiley, happy young lady. My room was adjacent to entrance of inn, so noisy, though it did stop just before 11pm. would not want to be staying in that room in the summer as there were patio tables/chairs right outside the room. Toilet seat wasn't clean. could hear another guests tv blasting out at 7.15am on the Sunday morning
Warm friendly atmosphere and staff. Clean and comfortable
Excellent, comfortable rooms, amazing shower. Excellent food (breakfast is a must) and friendly, helpful staff. Very reasonably priced If I have to pick one, very poor reception on some of the freeview channels but you'll get that anywhere
A quiet location close to the centre of a lovely Suffolk village, friendly, comfortable with a superb breakfast provided.
Clean & cosy, all necessary facilities, friendly, massive english breakfast
Good facilities exceptional breakfast
Very comfortable and friendly stay, great breakfasts.
Very clean and modern facilities but with lots of character, owners very pleasant and breakfast was good. No bad points
Guest House has great character as rooms we stayed were in the old part of the house with oak beams and floorboards that creaked. Bed was modern and comfortable. Appreciated the use of a refrigerator and supply of real milk for the tea and coffee making as opposed to UHT.
Location, close to centre of Clare and easy access to East Anglia. Welcoming staff, comfortable room and bed. The wi-fi signal could be stronger.
Very poor quality accommodation
Large room very comfortable bed bedroom radiator would not turn off so room was unbearably hot. Bathroom very tatty. I used to stay here regularly about 10 years ago, it looks rather run down now.
The historic atmosphere is amazing no ghosts unfortunately Seemed to be running on minimum staff levels, staff were having to multi- task sometimes to the detrement of guests
comfortable, clean, cosy Couldn't get a downstairs room as new owners did know we asked for one when booking
Friendly helpfull staff - lovely building little bit haphazard but may just be due to change over. Needs decorating
food was good thought a lot more could have been done with general appearence thought they could have done with a gardener didnt clear out side tables very quickly tv reception was terrible air conditioning or a fan a neccesity
Quaint, historic inn, with a roaring fireplace and its own ghost! Good food too
Quiet location, friendly staff I was in room 31 away from the main building the shower has no water pressure
Good breakfast which was included with the room price The room radiator made a loud noise every hour which created a difficult situation for myself to fall asleep. In addition, there was no clock or tv remote control in the room. Due to the age of the location, it was kind of creepy...I wouldn't want to sleep there alone...
this is the 3rd time I have stayed, and I like the atmosphere, friendliness of the staff and the food is good.
Disapointed with choise of food menu and quality of food
I would like to have seen some information in the room on the restaurant, breakfast & dinner times & maybe a sample menu & details on checkout times. there was no guest information at all not even on the area or things to do.
Very friendly and helpful staff; they even offered to buy in special foods for the gluten-free diet in our group. Pleasant grounds and peaceful rural setting. Good breakfast, but some fruit would have been nice. We appreciated having ground-floor rooms and being able to park right outside. My room was far too hot and I couldn't adjust the radiator or towel rail. The shower was also too hot to stand under, so I had to have a bath each morning. I did report this and was told a plumber was due in the day, but there was no change in temperature of heating or water afterwards. I was pleased we were allowed to bring a dog at no extra charge, but felt that having to sign a detailed disclaimer was a little over the top; it was something I'd never had to do before. It also seemed a little distasteful that a hotel of this standard should be threatening to fine guests for dog-fouling and smoking in rooms; a simple, polite reminder that these are not acceptable should suffice.
Very nice atmospere, helpful staff Spiders webs in the lightfittings in my room. And the trip from carpark to entrance is less than convenient
Location, comfort and friendliness of the staff
Excellent service and very comfortable well sized rooms. There is ample parking adjacent to the rooms. I like the fact that all the rooms are at ground floor and are very clean. Highly recommended
The whole atmosphere and lay out was great, felt very comfortable
Lovely place, really nice setting. We were there for a family wedding and liked the layout, all the rooms were in a courtyard setting.
Nice area See below Would not recomend to anyone.
It was nice to arrive that everything was ready & clean, and helpful staff We didn't get to stay longer
