Housed in an iconic Boston landmark and originally built as a prison in 1851, the Liberty Hotel is a unique luxury property with a fun, modern atmosphere and design that honors the building’s rich history.

Liberty Hotel underwent a restoration in 2007 and in 2016; an $11 million dollar investment pushed the hotel into luxury. The 298 rooms at the hotel are stylish and elegant, with interesting decorative elements that incorporate the incarceration theme, and upscale bathrooms with separate rain showers and soaking tubs. Details such as framed skeleton keys, heavy vaults for bedside tables, and earth tones make the rooms classy while giving praise to history. Amenities include quality Luxury Collection beds topped with Frette linens, large flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and minibars.

The Liberty features three restaurants and two bars, each with a distinct dining option. Multiple dining options combined with a fitness center, 24-hour business center, indoor and outdoor event space, and pet-friendly accommodations all make this hotel one of the best values in Boston. The intriguing back story and architectural grace make it one of the most attractive hotels in the area.

Located in Boston’s Beacon Hill community and two blocks from the Charles River, the Liberty is just a short walk to lots of shopping, dining, and tourist sites such as the Charles River Esplanade, the Museum of Science, and the Boston Common. The hotel is also a 10-minute drive from Fenway Park, Harvard Square, Harvard University and Faneuil Hall.

The Liberty is popular with couples and business travelers but is also a great choice for visitors interested in history.

The rooms’ doors are extremely noisy so it is impossible to sleep in pass 6:45 as people start going on with their day. Room staff are starting to make rooms, vacuum and open doors multiple times starting at 7:30…in 10 minutes, we counted 15 doors closing in and out at 8am…they are not discreet and could be less noisy…that kinda ruined our stay in very expensive hotel.

Pros. Great atmosphere, historic building! Concierge even made 9 degrees sound fun at our 8 am wake up call... hard to do. Overall very unique and satisfying experience. Clink was a unique dining experience. Breakfast was delicious, the lemon chive hollandaise was top notch but the flavor notes were subtle. I couldn't be more pleased!

Pros. Clean and comfortable. Good valet staff.

Cons. $50 parking... conveniently not mentioned prior to arrival. Asked for 2 queens and got a king. Nothing but 20-somethings in the lobby any time I was in it (ZZZzzzzzz). As I almost live in hotels, I care about the mix for my own sanity and it would be nice to have a more professionally/intellectually diverse mix. Inconvenient access to AC plugs at the desk. Occupancy sensors suck. No mint:)

Pros. The liberty staff, amenities, location and feel were top notch.

Cons. I did not like how thin the walls connecting the rooms were. It was hard to fall asleep at night a few nights we were there because there was no sound buffer.

Pros. Very friendly staffs.

Cons. Free Wifi only for 2 devices per room & it's not the high speed for playing games. Upgrade is $20 extra.

Pros. The hotel is very unique for sure. How often do you get to stay in a prison in luxury? The staff is very friendly, and the glass of sparkling wine at check in was lovely. The quiet lobby turns into a very lively nightclub in the evening. Our view was a tiny slice of the Charles river and the Royal Sonesta Hotel.

Cons. The price for everything from drinks to breakfast is obscene. My husband and I had breakfast in Clink Sunday morning, I had Bacon and eggs, with 6 pieces of red potatoe, and two cold pieces of toast. My husband had the same except he had sausages that were undercooked, and we each had coffee. The total came to $59.92 without tip. We didn't get menus, just ordered, so we were stunned. Buyer beware!!

Pros. Customer Service was amazing - staff was efficient, friendly and helpful. Over all feeling of this place is customer-centric without being stuffy or gratuitous -Would love to go back again!

Cons. It was a little hard to get to off the highway - but not much they can do about that ;)
