Pros: Belford House sits in the middle of Haltwhistle on the main road through the town. It was our first stop of the trail. The owner was was very welcoming and helpful, providing secure storage for our bikes in his garage and helping to move our bags to our room. The room was a reasonable size, well furnished with an excellent bathroom containing a prolific shower, good to see after a day cycling in the middle of the July heatwave. Belford House does not provide breakfast, but just over the road sits Jethro’s, a small cafe providing delicious full English and other varieties of breakfast, all served by a warm, friendly grandmotherly lady with a wonderful Cumbrian accent. Well worth a visit.

Wydon Farm B&B - Haltwhistle - Building
3
9.7 Excellent (171 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Wydon Farm B&B in Haltwhistle, you'll be within a 10-minute drive of Northumberland National Park and Hadrian's Wall. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Wydon Farm was the first stay on our visit along Hadrian's Wall and it set a really high bar for every place we stayed after. The rooms were really comfortable and well suited for us -- hikers wanting the full comforts of home after being on the trail all day -- but would be great for older, car-traveling couples/families too. The setting was very quiet except for wind and birds and the occasional sheep or cow calling outside. And the breakfast set up was very good -- largely locally sourced, made to order. The owner, Linda, went above and beyond in picking us up from the train station and even came and rescued us from the side of the road one evening when we stayed out hiking too long and didn't want to walk along a busy road. If you can book with them directly instead of through this site you save the owners a 15% fee, so it would be a nice thing to do.
Cons: The location may be a bit too far for small kids or much older adults to walk to if you don't want to take a cab -- a little over a mile from the train station. But it's a really pretty walk that we enjoyed.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: As well as cooked breakfast we had granola with fruit and yogurt. Safe place to store bikes.

Pros: Honest B&B with plentiful breakfast.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This was a great location close to Hadrian's wall and other attractions, Tv, coffee and tea in room, breakfast was fantastic all you could ask for and more. The family who run it were supper friendly and helpful.

The staff were so friendly and couldn't do enough for us, and they welcomed the little dog we had with us too on our walking holiday to Hadrian's Wall. Pros: Old building from 1600’s renovated to high modern standards, we were upgraded to a real sauna in the bath. Huge rooms (tho the TV was small - we just moved it closer to the bed). Large bed. Awesome village to walk around but no shops. Property near to famed Hadrian’s Wall and surroundings - make sure to see the Priory at Lanercost.

Pros: Just perfect We stayed at the Ashcroft Guest House for one night on 29th June 19. From the moment you arrive the view is breath taking, the guesthouse, the gardens and the view. We were greeted by Christine who gave us all the information we needed for our stay, local places to visit, to eat and have a drink. Geoff, Christine and their staff couldn't have made our stay any better, they really are the most friendliest and welcoming hosts we have ever met, your stay at the Ashcroft will be memorable (for good reasons). The guesthouse is stunning and in a perfect spot for touring around Northumberland, especially if you are wanting to visit Vindolanda, Sycamore Gap, The Sill or just to go for walks in the beautiful countryside around. Our room was spacious, clean, comfortable, with all the facilities that we needed (even fresh milk for our brew!). The breakfast was nice! The girls helping Christine and Geoff were very attentive. If we’re up in that area again, we would stay there.

Cons: leaving
7.0 Good
Pros: The food and service from the staff were top class. Hotel was very clean.
Cons: The hotel has been taken over 8 weeks ago with new management in place. They were very attentive, however readily criticised their staff for lack of service awareness, which made us feel uncomfortable. When we paid in the morning, some items from the bar were missing from the invoice (which we told them). The manager then dealt with this, and implied this was the staff members fault for not using the system correctly (and informed her in front of us). Uncomfortable!

7.0 Good
Pros: Lovely building, well restored. Disappointed with the shower - for £150+ per night expected better than this. The breakfast on day 1 was mediocre, we didn't bother on day 2. REMEMBER to take the back door key as the staff aren't always around ...
Cons: Shower - definitely Breakfast - you are asked the previous night what time you would like to eat and what you want. We asked for 8:30 - 9:00 - the chef said 08:45 - great. At 9:15 we were still waiting - no tea, no coffee, no toast - just waiting and waiting ...

Pros: Excellent staff. V friendly and helpful. Bar area lively. V Good breakfast. Position at end of Roman road near the wall is excellent.
Cons: The room was dated. V Clean and newly painted but older infrastructure. Blinds didn't keep light out, tap dripped. Needs updating to compete. But all functions worked.

Pros: Everything. The accomodation was amazing, hot tub was out of this world after a day of walking and Dave picked us up and dropped us off. Could not recommend high enough.
Cons: That we couldn't stay longer
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful family home with lots of history and character. Loved the hot tub and the sumptuous décor and luxurious bedrooms. Our host cooked a delicious breakfast and was very friendly and helpful. We were walking Hadrian's Wall and although 3 miles from the path, David offered us a lift. Ideal overnight stop for walkers, as Brampton has plenty of places to eat, and shops, ATMs etc...… and the hot tub for aching muscles of course!
Cons: We inadvertently used the kitchen in the evening - sorry! A sign saying 'Private' on the kitchen door, making it clear it wasn't for guests use would have prevented the mistake
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owner went far out of his way to make our stay brilliant. Lovely person and stay.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The hot tub is to die for at the end of a long day's hiking. The beds are super-comfortable, the rooms large, and the continental breakfast well presented and filling. Good places to eat and drink nearby.
Cons: The kitchen is inaccessible when the owner is not present, cutting off access to tea/coffee/milk until breakfast time. Being able to make a cuppa in the evening would have been nice.

Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Pretty much everything. Great for a stopover on Hadrian’s Wall walk and would be excellent base for a longer visit to Brampton area. A real “find” with relaxing guest lounge and really great rooms with extremely comfortable beds, especially after a day’s walk. Great host too! Definitely on the “return to” list.
Cons: Nothing.

Pros: Staff all there to help nothing too much trouble.Property very clean Food in bar very good . Breakfast excellent.
Cons: Nothing
5.5 Okay
Pros: The location was good and the staff were friendly. Breakfast was limited but what they did have they prepared very well. It was also nicely decorated.
Cons: We were in a family room which consisted of a soft double bed, a bunk bed, chest of draws and two side tables (which were nowhere near the double bed). The floor leaned at a peculiar angle sort of backwards and to the right which was strange enough when we entered the room but sleeping at the odd angle made us feel drunk when we woke up and it took awhile to adjust. There wasn’t a wardrobe which didn’t really matter to us but a few hooks somewhere in the bedroom and/or bathroom to hang our coats and towels would have been nice. Unusually there was no TV... so nothing to entertain our son while we sorted ourselves out in the evening and morning. The side tables were nowhere near the double bed so they served no real purpose and the electric kettle wasn’t near the plug. On the plus side the room’s feature wallpaper was nice.

9.3 Excellent
Pros: Great location, friendly staff, superb food (breakfast & evening meal) and great beer. Ideal stopping point on the Hadrian' s Cycle Way. Staff very accommodating, even when we turned up late and they had to rearrange the dining room to ensure we all got fed. Service could not have been better.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The staff
Cons: Lack of facilities (toilets and showers)for the family
8.8 Excellent
Pros: A great base for walkers and cyclists looking to be a bit away from the Hadrian's Wall crowds. Really friendly service and good value food.
Cons: A toaster in the kitchen facilities would be good.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great pub in a great location with great staff, great beer and food that is very popular with the locals. They were crazy busy when we arrived but a local showed us to our room and the landlady made sure we had a table reserved in a quite part of the bar for dinner. The service was 5 star. Breakfast was nice too.
Cons: The only negative really was that it was very basic for the price with no ensuite and extra for towels but clean and value was added by the welcome and service
