It was close to town centre (only took 5/10 mins to walk) the hotel was easy to find and also was very nice to look at from outside.
Clean room, great breakfast, convenient for Bath center, good parking. Night porter woke us up at 4.30am getting linen from the cupboard outside our room.
Room was clean, comfortable with good facilities, excellent breakfast, staff helpful.

The situation, the staff and the room I was disappointed that there was no dinner available at the Hotel. I did not spot that this was the case when I booked.
Location was excellent, easy parking on site, I would use the Hotel again, evening late bar also good. Breakfast & room very nice. Room size was very small, I understand we booked a small double but you could not walk around the bed. We would use the Hotel again but book a larger room.
Good location, good staff, clean and car parking We thought it was a 5 star when we booked. Whist it was quite good the room was relatvely small and the bathroom ditto
We were travelling around UK by car during September and stayed in total in 26 different hotels. This one was the worst. The room was extremely small, the bathroom was awfully tiny. The receptionists were quite unfriendly. And a funny thing was that they did not let us leave the car for a couple of hours at the parking while we wanted to walk a bit around the city. The worst place we´ve seen!!!!
The staff were very distressed by the incorrect booking, they gave us two single rooms free of charge for the night and then changed them for a double room when they had a cancellation. For the price of the rooms it is very expensive. We stayed in three hotels in the area last week. The Cross Hands was the most expensive and had the smallest rooms and the whole hotel is in great need of refurbishment.
The bed was very comfortable and the buffet breakfast was just right for what I require.Would recommend but would also tell them about what I didn't like. I didn't enjoy me meal, I opted for the lamb shepherds pie but it was very dry with too much potato and not enough lamb and gravy. The vegetables tasted as if they had been cooked for a while and this would be confirmed by the timescale from ordering to table which only took a few short minutes. Fresh veg can be done in 10 mins. I would have been happy to wait 10 mins.
The design of the family room was excellent. The location was easy to find and the staff where really friendly and helpful. The cleanliness of the bathroom left a lot to be desired. There was a problem with the computerised billing system which meant that my meal didn't arrive (although this was deducted from the bill and the manager was very apologetic). Also when I arrived I was given a master key as the key to my room had been taken. As a woman travelling alone with my children this didn't make me feel secure.

Bar excellent -- cask conditioned ales staff attentive and friendly Very loud birthday celebration ran well past midnight limiting our ability to sleep needs a bit of tender loving care in maintenance mold in shower breakfasts good but for dinner kitchen was inconsistent
Breakfast was disappointing. We came down at 9.00a.m. and the buffet breakfast was supposed to be available until 10.00, with cooked breakfast available until 12.00. We were obviously the last of a line of guests and there were no pastries, the croissants were burnt, the peppermint tea was an empty box and I finished up all the bits of fruit. The waitress said that what was on the buffet was what they had!!
Traditional Old World style` Not enough bar and restaurant staff (two girls covering both areas). Staff appeared to be eastern block migrant workers who were keen and pleasant but did not appear to have been trained propoerly. Examples were: running - without exaggeration - between bar and restaurant. Did not know what port wine was or which glass to serve it in.
Price. Breakfast. The hotel was very tired in need of investment.
Staff non existant except one very hard working young man seving breakfast on his own. Ordered a morning paper found it on reception. Could not give the key to anyone on leaving so left it on reception desk
Convenient for visit in area The hotel was fully booked and the dining room was busy. The hotel was grossly understaffed with only 3 staff and one chef on duty and the delay for many people in the dining room was unacceptable. Allegedly according to Greene King the hotel is adequately staffed which if true is ridiculous. In the circumstances the staff were extremely polite and positive and worked very hard. I would recommend but warn of problems.
Staff were very friendly, very cosy room and loved the character The employee responsible for breakfast seemed to be running late- I was directed by reception downstairs to the breakfast area but the door was locked just after 7.30am. It took her a while to have everything out and ready, I needed to eat breakfast quickly as I had to check out so felt quite rushed in the end as there was not much choice.
Centered around a medieval courtyard with stone paving, this is a wonderful old inn with an unbroken history dating back over half a millennium. We had only booked one night, but were so taken by its charm and history that we stayed for a second night. The inn is convenient to both Bath and Stonehenge, as well as many other sites in the area. Rooms were clean and well appointed. Headroom was limited on some doors (I'm 6'3") and some bathrooms were cramped, but all were nicely fit in without detracting from the original look and feel of this ancient inn. Breakfast was a hearty affair and service was excellent. We only dined at the Inn one evening, but the food was well prepared and nicely served. A number of walking and bridle paths cross through the village, and the one evening change ringers were practicing in the local church. If you are looking for a romantic getaway in a truly old inn with modern conveniences, I can't recommend any place more highly that this. There was very little to dislike here. If you decide to go, you need to understand this is an authentic old inn which has been fitted as a modern hotel. Doorways can be low and some facilities can seem cramped, but all of the work has been done very well so as to preserve the look and feel of an old inn while providing modern amenities.
some of the staff were very friendly and helpful, and it was close to an important appointment next morning, breakfast was good but some items were cold, i mean cold.and no staff to tell. basic set up, needs the black silicone round the bath replacing with some white to match the bath, room are tired and dated, needs make over, didnt eat in the pub, hungry horse menu dont do it for me sorry, went into cleavdon, lovely places to eat there. lot of contractors stopping here, so was little noisy at closing time.
Easy to find from m5. Simple pleasant rooms. Fantastic children's play area. Good bar area that was tolerant to our late arrival with a small child.
Quiet. The chips we were served were probably the worst we have ever tasted, we could not eat them, probably oven chips, disgusting. Even though we arrived quite late, when we walked into our room it had not been prepared. The bedding was still on the floor etc.
The price. One of the bedroom windows wouldn't lock. There was black mould in tiles in the bathroom. The toilet wsan't clean. There was no information in the bedroom about how to make telephone calls, where breakfast was etc. The receptionist was unable to get me a taxi from the hotel to the venue of the event I was attending. I ended up walking.
Good large rooms and very comfortable. The food in the restaurant was truly awful - I wouldn't eat there again.
The bathroom was damp and smelly. Leaky shower tap. Mould on tiles around the bath.
The location was good for my purposes. The bed was comfortable and the romm was a good size. Bathroom had black mould around bath, smelled damp probably because the extractor didn't work. There was no phone in the room so when I found out that the TV wouldn't work I had to go to the desk to ask someone to fix it.When I filled up the registration form there was a space to request a newspaper which I filled up, at the same time saying to the girl on the desk that I would like a Telegraph. In the morning when I asked for my paper I was told they don't provide newspapers! The adjoining restaurant was mostly fast food and provided nothing for a healthier diet. Breakfast was also disappointing although the bread was delicious.
Some of the staff were friendly and obliging. Being forced by a reception phone call to check out at 10am is not my idea of a comfortable experience.
The noise from the room above at 5 oclock in the morning with their TV. Which resulted in my wife not being able to go back to sleep so we left for home even before breakfast.
