Pros: Unexpectedly stunning location in pittoresque village . Spacious suite with lovely view over the church. Tasteful furniture. Liked bilingual aspect- not just catering for Brits. More than you’d expect for a hotel stop-off. Great hosts.
Cons: Nothing. Just perfect.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hosts were so welcoming and helpful. Highly recommend this place.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The English owners have done a thoughtful, stylish and characterful renovation of the building. Comfortable spacious room with a view of the church and the little square. Very comfortable bed. Owners were extremely helpful with our dinner reservation at the super little auberge across the square (reservations always required!). Parking was no problem. Obviously a wonderful part of France to holiday, although we were travelling south and could only stay one night. A wonderful village with great links to surrounding POIs and not far off the main road between Poiters and Angouleme.
Cons: Would like to have stayed longer.

Pros: We booked Merchant House literally last second and we couldn't have been luckier to find it. It is located in the centre of a beautiful village with restaurants right on your doorstep. The house itself is absolutely superb and I cannot praise the hospitality of Janet and Guy more. They were amazingly helpful and accommodating, despite the fact we literally turned up on their doorsteps. I am very thankful and I cannot recommend Merchant House more.
Cons: Nothing - everything was well above our expectations.

Pros: From the moment we were invited in it felt like home. What a wonderful place to stay. Fiona and Michael were the perfect hosts and nothing was too much. We couldn’t have asked for more. We are going back to the area later this year and will definitely be booking to stay there again. We would highly recommend anyone looking for a Chambre d’hote in this area to definitely stay here. To add, they also have Harvey, an extremely friendly Golden Retriever, who will become your friend as soon as you walk in......perfect.

7.1 Good
Pros: Very welcoming and helpful owners. Excellent continental breakfast.
Cons: The room was right next to a road which had heavy traffic from about 6 am. This was not helped by a yapping dog on the opposite side of the road. The nearest open restaurant in the evening was 7 km away.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We appreciated the late check-in due to heavy traffic on way to B&B. Breakfast was really good, especially the coffee! The owners made us feel very much at home from the start, thanks so much!
Cons: We wish we could have stayed longer!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Jim and Kaz were wonderful and welcoming hosts. The rooms clean and spacious, with the back garden perfect on a cool evening to chill out with a bottle of wine. The house is a converted police station (jail cells intact) located in a sleepy village, and offering respite from the bustle of the big cities. Breakfast was good and adequate. Only minor hiccup on our short stay was a bit of noise from early rising kids staying in room above, and nothing to do with the property itself. A lovely stay overall, thanks again Jim and Kaz
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The host, Jim was so helpful and good company.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Stranded in Champagne Mouton with a broken down car, we had to improvise. Swiftly booked the first accommodation we could find for (being Dutch as we are) a reasonable fee. It turns out that every cloud indeed has a silver lining. The silver lining being Jim & Kaz at Chambre d'hotes Vingt Grande Rue. We had the warmest welcome and the same afternoon Jim and I watched Wales beat England at rugby (Sorry Jim, but the World Cup might be offering new opportunities for revenge). Jim & Kaz offered us a spacious and well decorated room. We had dinner at their kitchen table and had a delightful curry, homemade by Jim. The Chambre d'hotes is set in a former Gendarmerie and has a warm and authentic atmosphere. Their service is very attentive and flexible. The food was great. But to us the most important thing was that we almost forgot that we were stranded and waiting for our car to be repaired. It was almost disappointing to hear that it was fixed. WIFI is up to par, and the rooms are clean, which also goes for towels and bed linen. A great experience and an utmost delight to have met Jim & Kaz.  Thanks for all the good care and the, good, and at times hilarious, conversations .
Cons: Nothing at all
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is a wonderful place to stay. As soon as we walked through the door into the beautiful hallway we knew we’d discovered a hidden gem. Jim and Kaz (a really lovely couple from Liverpool, England) greeted us with the warmest welcome and a cold drink for us all-instant relaxation after a long drive. Our room was so nice, a perfect combination of traditional and modern, the beds were very comfortable and it was so quiet, we all slept well. The bathroom had lovely touches-shower gel etc and decent towels! Same for the sitting room, with loads of books, DVDs and a billiard table. Huge comfy sofas to relax on. We have a 3 and 7 year old and they were made very welcome. Breakfast was great and relaxed - Jim gave us a photo album to look at, full of shots of the building being renovated and one when it was a police station-there’s still cells out the back-so interesting. They had loads of recommendations of places to eat short drives away-we went to a restaurant call La Cassotte in Nieuil, about a 15min drive. It was really good, catered for the kids well (there’s a big garden with toys - brilliant) our meal was delicious and reasonable. We will definitely go back to Vingt Grand Rue-Jim and Kaz have created somewhere special, I didn’t want to leave!
Cons: We liked everything!

Pros: Lovely clean room, very comfortable. Food was fabulous and good company throughout meal, everything you needed.
Cons: Stairs to bedroom, personal gate if open stairs but only need to do it once.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A warm welcome from Karen and Phil followed by the offer of a pot of tea. A peaceful location in a quiet village allowing complete relaxation. We had chosen the smaller bedroom as it was the first on the list and we were only staying one night , but go for the larger room with its own sitting room a beautiful well furnished room and huge bathroom. Such excellent value and a very good breakfast.

Pros: Great hosts, Excellent property, has everything and more. John and Wendy have got the hospitality perfect, it's like visiting relatives, they made our stay brilliant and we're very helpful. It's good to experience this place just to see, what it should be like. Perfect distance from the Channel ferry if travelling south.
Cons: Liked Everything
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The property is in a beautiful setting, beautifully appointed and immaculate. There is a comfortable settee with built in chaise-longue, much more preferable to a hotel room, where usually there is only a bed, a desk chair and maybe one of those firm, upright backed half round things that offer much less in terms of comfort. The bedroom is as beautiful as the rest of the property, including an equally impressive ensuite, it doesn’t have a shower but a very nice roll top bath with plentiful hot water. The property is attached but totally separate to the owners house having it’s own front door, so a high level of privacy is afforded. The bed was extremely comfortable with a mattress neither too soft or too firm but a high quality feeling item that I’m sure would offer a great nights sleep to anyone that uses it. The only thing I would note is that I’m 6’2” and anyone over this height who is sharing with a partner may find it a little tight for head/foot room. The facilities provided for tea and coffee etc are generous with plenty of glasses and cutlery and the like for a wine, beer or pizza/takeaway and such. The included continental style breakfast in the morning is a real delight and something definitely to look forward to, delivered to the door at the mutually agreed time the evening before. The hosts Wendy and John, couldn’t have been more helpful, and it was a pleasure to meet them. I can recommend staying here without hesitation. I’m a typical man who is generally quite easily pleased with basic needs but I thought this charming and private b&b was so exquisitely appointed that if you were to take your loved one here for a romantic weekend get away your awarded brownie points would be sure to last a wee while!
