Fine experience minus the AC that needed a tune up
Pros: Picking up and dropping off the car was straightforward. The process was simple, I selected the car online and picked it up nearby. The car had XM radio which made the trip to LA more enjoyable, and it drove very well.
Cons: The car we selected in SF had an AC that did not last but 20 minutes before it was blowing hot air. As a result, we had to detour in San Jose to the airport to exchange the car for a new car. It was difficult to find the car entrance at an unfamiliar airport. Once we did the car switch out was simple, though no additional services or upgrades were provided. We then left the airport and were stuck in rush hour traffic. This added 90 minutes to our drive from SF to LA, I was very upset but have since calmed down, I wish the AC had been tested prior to my pickup.

Cons: It took way too long to get my car. The whole process was not at all efficient and/or convenient.

Cons: We were quoted about 65.00 and the end price was 165.00. Drop off they were short staffed and we had to wait a long time and the employee was very short with everyone. We observed her yelling at some people.

Not where I want to rent from
Cons: I request and booked a car at the San Francisco airport for a good price. When I called the car company to add my Gold Member number to the reservation, they told me the reservation was not at the airport but at another off site location, so I had to rebook at double the price. Thanks Kayak!

Easy easy pick up and dropoff
Pros: Car was good enough for our needs. Small but made parking easier. Person at desk was very helpful as my pickup location was not the airport even though that's what I put in.
Cons: Watch out!! Even though I put in sfo for the san fransisco airport it quoted prices for off airport and my reservation had to be changed when I got there. Fortunately hertz was accomodating and helpful with price. Could have been a mess.

SFO Hertz / Might be off airport facility.
Cons: The entire process could have been improved. The reservation was made for SFO. But upon arrival at the airport rental center, I was informed that my reservation was made at a different (nearby) facility. A vehicle was sent for us, which again wasn't clear where to go and who would be picking us up. When we arrived at the rental location. People were lined up out the door. When we finally made it to the front and spoke to an agent, she added additional insurance even though I declined (she later removed the charges). The car that we were assigned was not readily available... They needed a vehicle or unit number and it took nearly 15 minutes to figure out this information. From the time we were picked up, until the time we actually took possession of the car was 45 minutes. Which is completely unacceptable. The car itself was very much near the end of its lifecycle. It was very beat up and needed a thorough cleaning (we had to buy window cleaner because the interior window surfaces were filthy). Somethings was also very wrong with the fuel tank (which I explained in detail when I returned the car). When pumping gas, it would continually "click" off as if the tank was full, although the tank was empty. Initially I thought it was that pump. But after stopping for gas 6 times (we drove a lot and the tank was small). It happened every time. Which indicates to me that it's a problem with that car. It was a combination of issues that created a bad experience. If it was just one issue, I wouldn't even fill out the survey... But this entire car rental process was unpleasant. And I will not rent from Hertz when I'm traveling to SFO in the future. A lesson hard learned.

Cons: When we got to San Francisco. Getting to the right counter was extremely difficult with luggage in tow. A lackluster greeting from rental agent, who said we don't have res, the. oh this is for a Hertz in the city, we'll get a car to take you over there. Nice but was meeting another flight and that wouldn't work. Then oh this kayak, they always do that. Then we have no cars and if we did it would be three times what you reserved. Then we'll, if you'd been nice we might have helped you from the hertz sales rep. Dismissed. Last time for me with hertz.

Not at the airport.
Pros: The Chevy Spark I rented performed adequately, and got pretty good mileage.
Cons: I used Kayak to reserve a car at SFO airport. When I showed up at the Hertz rental desk I was told that I did not have a reservation at the airport, but it was at an address of 177 Airport Blvd. I needed to return to the Arrivals area of the airport, because a Taxi would not pick up at the Hertz desk at the airport. The rental spot was off site, with no shuttle, and required a $20 taxi ride to get to the Hertz site.

Pros: The price was very reasonable and I actually got a free upgrade so was very happy with that.
Cons: The office is understaffed and they were very busy not their fault they did their best.

Cons: First , we didn't know the pick up was actually off site with no shuttle to get there. Then No car on location to rent- waited two hours to get a car. When we dropped it off no one was there to take it and we ended up dropping it off at the airport however the customer service people were nice enough to wave the fee . Will never use kayak or hertz again.
