DeceitfulPros: Easy to get to and drop offCons: 1. Oh, do you want to put a €2,500 security deposit on your credit card which we'll remove in 35-40 days, or pay €30/day for all-inclusive insurance and only a €250 security deposit which we'll remove after 5-7 days? (and why is a deposit needed if the insurance is truly all-inclusive?) 2) Wanted a Nissan, got a crappy Peugeot with horrible ergonomics,warning lights that stayed on and a semi-functional fuel gauge. 3) After filling up the car the fuel gauge didn't budge, and I'm not sure if I convinced they guy that I had truly filled the car up or not since the gauge was still much lower than full. Any additional charges on my card will definitely be contested (and thank God my CC company always backs me up)

Pros: The car itself was fine. Staff were terrible.Cons: 1. DO NOT BUY the Kayak insurance. When we arrived we assured them that we had comprehensive insurance. But they refused to accept it without putting a 10K hold on our card. Who is going to accept it. Another 236 euros on our way, we got the car etc. We returned early due to COVID. We asked the person if she could prorate our money - or at least the insurance she had made us buy. She flat out refused saying it was part of the contact. Luckily it looked like Hertz the company did the right thing and refunded our credit card, but the people at Hertz in Malta airport have a seriously bad attitude which is too bad because the rest of the Maltese people were delightful.

Not actually Hertz, $1000 hold on my credit card..Pros: Not much...Cons: They mandated a $1000 hold on my credit card for declining their insurance, which was a complete surprise to me. Also, when we turned the car in, they peeled the Hertz sticker off the car, and parked it another company's lot ("Gold?"). All in all, a shady (dodgy), unpleasant experience.

There is no Payless car rental in MaltaPros: Avis came to the rescue.Cons: After arriving at the airport, I couldn't find the Payless counter. After asking, the reason became clear: there is no Payless in Malta. Not sure why CarRentals.com thinks there is. Luckily,Avis honored my reservation.

Didn't existPros: NothingCons: Showed up in Malta airport and the local firm (Aquarius) that Payless outsourced to no longer did business with them so we were forced to pay an inflated price at the last minute. Not to mention that Aquarius didn't keep cars at the airport. Strongly suggest you rent from one of the big rental companies that have a desk and cars at the airport (Budget, Sixt, Eurocar, Avis, Goldcar, Hertz, etc)
