Shuttle just outside of SXM Airport takes you to the close-by but drivable distance to pick up your car. Always reserve your car prior to your trip for best price online at Thrifty.com, finding an online discount code for example 10% off. For insurance, if you have an American Express, sign up through AmX prior to your trip for a one-time charge of $24.95 on your American Express upon car rental charge; It covers everything except Liability, for the duration of your rental time (ours was 2 weeks) and safely decline Thrifty's daily insurance charges. (If you think your credit card covers you automatically, you may be very surprised just how little those free included coverage actually covers!) Bring a Contract copy with you. Thrifty is pleasant and they have decent prices. You can find slightly cheaper deals elsewhere, but beware of the extra charges others will likely add on.Cons:
It is customary in St Maarten to sign a blank credit card receipt, just in case the car is damaged or stolen, etc. But they all do this. After numerous years of rentals through Thrifty, we've never had any add-ons we did not expect.Hertz

Easy to book and price was under $50 for the day in smallest car offered.Cons:
The pick up was a bit to do, when I arrived no one was at the office and I couldn’t reach anyone by phone but the neighboring car rental attendant called them and they arrived quickly. In their defense, I had only booked the car a little over an hour before I arrived. The car was moderately clean and easy check out and back in. I would rent from them again if I need.1.9 Poor

Car had fabric interior and smelled very dirty. Seat adjustment handles were damaged. SUV was large so shoud have come with back up camera. Felt price was high for very basic suv. Next time we will get something smaller.ADDCAR RENTAL

Very expensive to drive a heap -- multiple scrapes and dings, windshield wipers were smeary, tire pressure light came on within first day, check engine light came on on third day, AC was weak (and if turned up made a continuous clicking sound that wouldn't quit until it was turned back down. Drive like a bucket of bolts, and cost nearly $700 for a week (with insurance, which seemed important given the condition of the car, not wanting anything blamed on me). They also take a $750 deposit against your credit card, which they return to you if they deem there is no further damage. The agency was not open @ 7:00 am so that we could return the car before a 9:00 flight.I had to go next door to Avis ansd was told that was a common problem and that I should leave the copy of the rental agreement plus keys and money for parking and she would tell Europcar where to go and find it.. I had ordered a "standard" car, since we were 2 couples with a considerable amt. of luggage & we recieved an intermediate Kia, in which the driver's side door handle literally broke off the door the second time we opened that door, & we were charged for it "because we broke it" by normally opening the door !!
