KAYAK’s top tips for renting a car in Kingston
Car rentals in Kingston make it easy to explore not only the city, but the larger surrounding region. While the town does have some public transportation that can be used, the best way to travel between neighborhoods and attractions is with Kingston car rentals. Having your own personal vehicle will also make it simple and quick to go to sites further away from the city center, such as Fort Clarence Beach, which is around a 20min drive away. You can also go to the Hope Botanical Gardens, which can be reached by car in around 12min.
To hire cheap car rentals in Kingston, you must be at least 25 years old and have a driver’s license that you’ve held for at least a year, an identification card, and a credit card for payment. If the writing on your license isn’t in English, you must have an International Driving Permit. If you intend to rent a vehicle for a lengthy period, you may use your home country’s license for up to three months if you’re a North American, 12 months if you’re British, and 1 month if you’re Japanese.
Visitors have the option of booking their car rentals in Kingston directly at Norman Manley International Airport (KIN). If you intend to ride in your Kingston car rental with your child, note that Kingston has strict child seat rules. In this city, infants from birth up to 20 lbs must sit in rear-facing infant seats, while those that weigh between 20 and 40 lbs can sit in forward-facing toddler seats, on the condition that they can pull themselves up to stand independently. Given that they rent their seats at affordable rates, you don’t need to carry yours from home.
Before operating car rentals in Kingston, you’ll want to make sure that you’re familiar with different driving laws and tips. For example, keep in mind that in Jamaica, drivers are required to drive on the left-hand side of the road. The maximum blood alcohol content in Jamaica is 0.035%, so you will also want to be very careful when drinking. There are many toll roads in the country, so be prepared to stop at a booth to pay.
In Kingston, all passengers riding in a vehicle must wear seat belts. When driving, you can only pass on the right, and never where there’s a continuous white line in the center of the road. In case of an emergency, dial 119 for police and 110 for an ambulance or the fire department. In the rural areas outside the city, some of the roads aren’t well marked. Therefore, you should have a navigation system accessible to avoid getting lost. You can get one installed easily since companies with cheap car rentals in Kingston offer navigation systems at affordable rates.
Avoid getting caught in a traffic jam by not driving on the roads during rush hour, which usually falls between 8:00 and 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. There are a few different roads in Kingston that are known for being particularly busy, and these include highways A4 and B1. During the rainy season, make sure to pay extra attention when driving and leave additional space between you and the car in front of you, as the roads typically are extra slippery.

They were very accommodating and flexible, and when I had a flat tire, the assistance was prompt and efficient. The only thing is they held US 1000 on my credit card which I am yet to get back 😩. Apart from that they seem a decent company.

The car was readily available and drove with no problems.
The van was clean and everything went well except for the pick up. We arrived expecting someone to be there holding a sign with my name as we were told in the reservation email. After waiting 20 minutes, we phoned and were told another 10 minutes. This went on for an hour and 40 minutes when finally we were picked up and taken to the rental. It was hot, we all had luggage and really didn't appreciate being treated like we were unimportant. Otherwise everything was great.
I did not like anything! The car class I reserved was not available. I was offered a much smaller car which was not big enough for my party. I was forced to find alternative transportation.
Cons:
Provide the service you offer! I would never rent from Payless again.
Budget have con artist employees. Budget never gave me the car of choice offered an upgrade the car was previously in a car accident the car had dents all over it. The front left tire had a bulged and I was charged to replace the tire. No email or bill was provided to give a breakdown of the cost. There was no manager was available at the time of drop off. When I collected the vehicle. The car had a fish odour. The gentleman used may a whole bottle of Victoria secret to try to get rid of the scent. No other vehicle was available. I would say never….never again. The staff at the mobay location horrible service. Very rude and disrespectful

The cost for the rental was about $180 yet the security deposit was $2000. That was a bit excessive to me. So I ended up canceling reservation.
They are not on site at the airport Upon my arrival no Thrifty representative was available. I ended up renting a car from island car rental which case me double the amount as they only had large cars available.
