Namkhong Guesthouse And Resort - Chiang Khong - Building
1
8.3 Excellent (559 reviews)
5.0 Okay
Pros: This hotel is a convenient place if you just want to stay for one night in Chiang Khong. It is not very far from the bus station so it is possible to walk. There is a 7/11 across the street. There is a taxi service 60 Baht per person to the border at 8:15 in the morning.
Cons: The room is definitely old, the linens had a hole and the bathroom seems even older and is just odd, we wore flip flops in the shower. The room was not very clean and the floor was sticky. We were happy that we just slept there for a couple of hours and then left this place. We booked a taxi to the border in the hotel and even though we said we would like to leave at 8:00, the taxi left quarter past 8. The price (20USD, double room with private bathroom) is too much for one night.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful territory, lots of green. Very interesting dark wood house with a tree grown right through. Comfortable bed. Good place to rest a bit.
Cons: Very thin walls so you can hear everything outside. Might be a problem in high season. Room pretty dark, need to add more light.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The swimmingpool was for me the best part of my stay.
Cons: Was rather far away from the towncentre.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Swimming pool, green garden.
Cons: We had a very noisy room, we heard even the wispering of our neighbours. Bathroom is very basic. We were not able to close the provided mosquito net above the bed properly. Breakfast (not included) is simple and not enough. Staff is not informed very well about bus tickets: we booked to Laos and they could not get us correct information about itinerary and timetable; pick up was at 7.15, so we had to wait 1.5 hours after Laos customs on our shuttle service to the bus station and there another 1.5 h until the bus to Luang Namtha started; better go on your own, it's easy, faster and cheaper.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything you need, comfortable, cheap food, really great for the price, could be more expensive i wouldn’t be surprised
Cons: Walls are a bit thin, you hear absolutely everything about your neighbors

8.0 Excellent
Pros: Location was okay about 10 minutes walk to the town center. I stayed at the river front rooms facing the Mekong River and Laos on the other side. They have a balcony outside the room so I spent a lot of time chatting with my friends there. Place was quiet with scenic views. Breakfast was just okay.
Cons: Could have more choices of food for breakfast.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Very clean, nicely decorated room, view over the mekong river, breakfast was good, staff was very friendly. Water and tea and coffee in the room. Good place if you bought a slowboat package and you dont want to stay in the included dump hotel. Would stay here again :)
Cons: The 'ding-dong' sound from the elevator is a bit loud, and audible in the rooms. No biggie since not many people use the elevator at night, but still unwanted. Also would be nice to get a ashtray on the balcony.
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: Nice view of the Mekong.
Cons: Staff were extremely dishonest and tried to scam us into paying for a private transfer to Huay Xue, saying it was the only way to get there. When we challenged them on this, they backtracked and said that a normal transfer would be double what we ended up paying. Really disappointing. Rooms were also delapidated and run down. They all needed refreshing. Breakfast was awful. Would not return. Very overpriced.
6.7 Good
Pros: Staffed by kids too busy on their phones to look after guests. Was nice hotel all new but with a little lack of care will go downhill pretty quickly
10.0 Excellent
Pros: View is spectacular and everything really.
Cons: If you updated the bikes a bit then the hotel is perfect for the price, thanks!
6.3 Good
Pros: There was a nice view of the River and it was a good value.
Cons: The a/c was very noisy, making for a difficult night’s sleep.
10.0 Excellent

9.6 Excellent
Pros: No frills but had everything we needed, including tea/coffee available in a public area and a 7-11 next door. It was just a one-night stop-over at the border before an early-morning crossing into Laos, so we just needed something basic, and it exceeded expectations. Very good value for the money.
7.5 Good
Pros: It's grand for one night stay in Chiang Khong nothing special. Room was big and two beds which is nice
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location of the hotel was great. The cleanliness and provisions such as extra glass tumblers etc in the room was exceptional, particularly for such a cheap price per night. The whole hotel including the foyer and officer area appeared to be immaculately kept and cleaned which is a great sign of good management. The staff on reception were friendly and efficient. This hotel was excellent value for money and I would recommend it to anyone.
Cons: Cannot fault this hotel.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Easy to get to and exit town from, a 7-11 right next door for water and necessities. Very low price and adequate for a one night stay.
Cons: Desk clerk wasn't very friendly, didn't really welcome us or offer to help us carry heavy suitcases up 3 flights of steep stairs..
7.1 Good
Pros: Big comfy rooms Central tea and coffee facilities as well as water refill Close to the river Above a 7/11
Cons: Bit far from restaurants Not very welcoming staff
6.7 Good
Pros: Accesibility.
Cons: The AC was leaking.

7.9 Good
Pros: Clean, comfy, quiet. We slept in 3 bed dormitory. Just two girls. Nice cafe with good coffee and breakfast menu. 1 km walking to bus station
Cons: Only 2 wc +shower
5.8 Okay
Pros: Cozy small room. Staff polite. Good coffee in breakfast. Helpful owner who can arrange your transportation with extra fee.
Cons: Shower water warm. One body towel per person. Too noisy due to the water pump which was under the veranda - also there was their laundry place.
6.0 Good
Pros: Only 3 beds in a dorm, close to the main road
Cons: Beds in the dorm are really close to each other, so there’s very little privacy (I was lucky to be the only one in the dorm). The owner offered a Slow Boat package tour, but it’s much better to do it on tour own
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location and price. Nice wooden building!
Cons: Rooms are small and bathrooms even smaller. Good enough for the price though.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Baanfai Guesthouse is a nice place to stay in Chiang Khong for a day before going to Laos. Very affordable, clean rooms, nice area to sit outside. Very cheap smoothies just a minute away, 7-11 and local fresh food market 5 minutes away.
Cons: Everything was fine or very good.

Pros: The staff is super friendly and helpful. The rooms was big with a balcony and nice view to the river The location is convenient and the view to the Mekong river and to Laos on the other side is very nice. Breakfast is nice.
Cons: The walk way along the river is currently undergoing reconstruction to become a nice promenade
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was perfect! Super nice host, very friendly and helpful. Gave us perfect information about crossing boarders and answered any question. Can book the slow boat tour to luang prabang with him, but don't have to. No force at all. Very very good and absolutely recommend it!
Cons: Bed could be a bit more comfy, but good for one night.
7.0 Good
Pros: Nice hotel, with very accomodating owners. Great views from room. Comfy bed. Basic breakfast but enough.
Cons: All good, but in time the hotel would benefit from clearing the garden area/seating area in front of the river. The many pot plants scattered about everywhere make the area look quite "messy".
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Service and advice from the landlord of this hotel are second to none. Real help given with completing visa forms for crossing into Laos and the advice about where to eat in the evening was spot on. Great location. Basic, clean facilities. Good value for money.
Cons: Nylon sheets
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was extremely helpful and nice. Although we were leaving early for the boat to Luang Prabang and we didn't buy the breakfast they prepared for us tea, coffee, mineral water, some snacks and fruits. The location is close to some temples and to a small restaurant Jaem House restaurant with not expensive but good food.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff ultra friendly and helpful, would stay again. If you can, bring a car number/registration plate to increase the collection.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Cool building with well designed, compact rooms in a row with sliding doors to access. Comfy bed & nice, clean bathroom. Staff were friendly and food was tasty too.
Cons: Nothing.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Great place to stay for a night before entering Laos. Did a bit of work on the terrace which was nice. Decent shared space inside to use upstairs too. The private double room we had was nice but not much space and no window. Good size bathroom. Clean and good for a short stay. The staff were nice and the location was great. Only a small town so plenty of things around.
Cons: Lack of window and room on the small side with now table and bed on the floor.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Every item makes Qin happy to sleep.
Cons: Cleanliness and safety
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Liked: The dojo type layout, facilities were clean and beds were comfortable
Cons: The dojo type layout meant that you could hear other guests and the room was therefore very small. Perfect for one night’s stay
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very quiet hostel but was perfect for a night before crossing to Laos. Really clean, nice little area upstairs to chill with a balcony, cute cafe downstairs - little bit more expensive as they were serving western food but if you walk a little bit up the road you can find nice restaurants with local food. They can help you organise tuktuk to the border or even book the slow boat

6.0 Good
Pros: A difficult place to review ... I guess I started with high expectations ... a luxury place overlooking the Mekong. Unfortunately, the experience didn't quite match it ... Arrived about 4pm, .. its set down a dusty road, so your car/bike will get filthy. No sign of anyone at first, so wandered into reception (I assumed). The place was used for a store for lots of building materials, and difficult to know where to go next. The owner appeared in the car park, with keys.. found me a room, twin beds. I showed him I had booked a double. Vague looks all around. Fortunately a fellow single passenger offered to swap. The room wasn't one overlooking the river (like in the pics), but rather in a block set at 90 degrees, with a building obstructing the view which you needed to step out on the balcony to see. In doing so, there were six sharp screws poking about 3mm through the floor, on which I ripped my foot open (see photos). The room itself was clean, but the shower a bit mediocre, with a cheapish plastic curtain that kept sticking to you. The bed comfy, at least. I had sent a message about a ride down to the town that evening ... it was never answered until the day after we left. However, in fairness, when asked, the owner did give us a free ride down in the back of his pick-up, but we were left to our own devices to get back ... difficult in a town where there is no transport after darkness. Breakfast was taken overlooking the river, and while the young staff were keen, the quality was poor. It was an "American BF", but had been prepared about 2 hours before. Everything Western was stone cold. The fruit was OK, and there was hot Khao Tom available if you don't mind Thai food. The coffee was instant, make your own... either they cud not be bothered to turn on the machine or it was broken. The sign still tantalisingly offered Latte, Cappuccino, Espresso, etc. Not a chance !
Cons: Our experiences did not match our expectations - the owner (an ex-policeman), may be friendly, but seems to lack the professionalism required to run the hotel, while charging prices similar to the luxury hotels downtown on the Mekong itself.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: the best hotel i have ever stayed at incredible staff - terrific location the best breakfast i have ever had in SE Asia
Cons: nothing
6.0 Good
Pros: Fine breakfast and beautiful views.
Cons: Door handle fell off and didn't lock - water turned off while showering (they quickly fixed it).
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very nice and peaceful environment, outstanding garden , Many hours we sat in our balcony and listen to birds voices and breathe fresh air, everything was so clean and neat, has a beautiful swimming pool, kind staffs, manager were a beautiful thai-german couple , For 100% we come back this resort again in this year.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Staff was very helpful and warm. I was driven to the Thai Immigration departure point where to he staff from Shompoo cruise was already waiting with my name.
Cons: No towel bar in bathroom. No phone to contact front desk or staff when the bedrooms are on a different building.

1.0 Poor
Pros: It’s Provo
Cons: Not clean
5.8 Okay
Cons: We didn’t really like our stay at Siam Tara, even if the resort by itself is comfortable and the pool is really big and great for the kids. When we arrived, the woman at the reception try to sell us the slowboat for the Laos and the diner. We felt like we had to buy. At the end, we bought the diner, to have a quiet evening before crossing the border. But since we didn’t buy the package for the slowboat, they didn’t let us take the same taxi that the other group the next morning (like they first suggest when they were trying to sell the package). So, we had to wait for them to come back. So we were waiting with the kids alone in the resort, even if we woke up as early at they other group of 2. For the package, they were asking for 1800 bahts for the slowboat and transport after Thailand border. We paid 20 000 kips in Laos for the slow boat, witch mean around 700 bahts. And for the record, the other group of two finished on the same boat as us, but with worse places because they arrived later. So, if you go there, don’t buy their package and be careful if you do so because you’ll soon be guests from second hand, even if you rent plenty of rooms!
5.0 Okay
Pros: The pool and area around the pool was very pleasant. A breakfast of eggs and toast was provided.
Cons: There was no bedside lighting in the room, only lights on the ceiling and the ceiling lights emitted a cold white light that was unpleasant. I needed to wear a headlamp flashlight in order to read in bed. There was almost no furniture in the room; I had to leave much of my belongings lying on the floor. There were signs posted in the room and on the terrace saying "No food allowed".
9.6 Excellent
Pros: First time here & quite impressed. Airy rooms, comfy clean bed, private location, and personal attention made it feel very nice. Breakfast, while basic, was cooked fresh with good bread (not the packet stuff). Coffee also good. The pool speaks for itself. Plenty of safe parking on site available. On site restaurant (although didn't eat there).
Cons: Was all good, but its worth mentioning the location being a few km out of town. If want quiet and secluded, its a winner, but you won't be able to have a night in the town pubs & walk back !
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic pool, in the sun 9am - 4pm! Towels for pool also available. Pool cleaned every day. Great food available, the lovely lady cooks to order, excellent food! Lovely, large bedroom with excellent AC. Spotlessly clean. Nice bathroom. Fridge in room loaded with free water. Really helpful staff. Up the stairs to the first floor for great views over the Mekong. Stayed poolside so karaoke from Laos did not affect us too much but you could definitely hear it carrying across the river. Lovely gardens. Offers really great value for money. A massive Tesco Lotus at the end of the road. Also got a free ride to bus station from owner as added bonus. OK WiFi coverage. Chiang Khong is pleasant enough but more a stopover rather than destination but this hotel is great if you just need to catch your breath and have a couple of pool days.
Cons: We paid extra ££ for a breakfast option but there seems to be no set breakfast so did wonder why ask for upfront payment when there's no set option? In the end we worked out what to have with the lovely cook so not a problem really at all, just slightly confusing. Hotel is a little way out of town but we knew that and easy to get a tuktuk into town for a 12min journey, 300BHT. Had to ask to have toilet paper bin changed daily, but staff very helpful and immediately did it. Brighter bulb needed for our bedside lamp although I think that was for our bedroom only. There's a huge club room that feels a little unloved, could do with a bit of a refresh.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very good rate and comfortable bed. I got served my own breakfast with good coffee. I liked that a lot.
Cons: The location is a bit remote from town but i had a motorbike so it wasnt an issue
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful service. The owner and his wife picked us up from the bus stop when we arrived late. The owner's wife then cooked us a lovely meal. After a lovely breakfast they took us to the border crossing into Laos for a very small fee. Wish we had spent more time there. Would definitely come back.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is a hidden gem . Loved the room the owner and the property. What a find in Chiang khong.
Cons: Nothing

Pros: The Sawadee @54 Homestay was excellent budget accommodation in Chiang-Khong for our family. The rooms were spacious and clean. Our host was excellent - he even drove us into town for dinner and arranged to pick us up again. Breakfast of banana pancakes was delicious!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Helpful host, nice breakfast, lovely dog
Cons: Going down and up to homestay
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: The owner was friendly
Cons: It was dirty and needed many repairs
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Owner is a really nice guy
Cons: No water provided in rooms
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Quiet location with good view over the river
Cons: Beds were hard and lumpy and walls were thin
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very nice looking homestay with a very friendly host who offered to book my entire Mekong/Laos trip to Luang Prabang (including pickup). It also included a very nice breakfast.
Cons: The place is in the opposite end of the town than the bus station, and it was a bit difficult to find the place in the dark although the distance itself was ok. I’m happy that I kept looking and found it. The city/riverside is very noisy with karaoke and animals all night, but I guess that would’ve been the same for every other accommodation
7.0 Good
Pros: Adequate place for just passing through. Pretty bare bones, but clean and comfortable. The host was very kind and drove us into town for dinner and picked us back up.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was beautiful, spacious, super comfortable. The area just so green and peaceful. Great view from the private balcony. Really a nice place to get away from everything. We were warmly greeted upon arrival with tasty lemonade. Upon request they made a vegetarian version of some of the dishes for us. We weren't here to go to Laos but merely because this place looked good and we wanted to be somewhere nice for a few days. This place was just as good as it seemed in the description :) highly recommend it!
Cons: Everything was great. If you don't have your own transportation it might be a bit hard to get around. The breakfast could get a bit boring.
7.0 Good
Pros: Fine resort for 1 night. The food was good
Cons: Walls are very thin...

Pros: Super clean and nice hotel with a beautiful location. The family is so nice and friendly. Thank you so much for making our stay perfect.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful people and help under difficult circumstances. I could not recommend this place high enough it was that good. Exceeded my expectations.
Cons: Breakfast was very small but under the circumstances, I am sure it was because of the current Covit 19 climate. I am positive their normal breakfast under standard environment in more than adequate.

Pros: Everything was perfect! The rooms are spacious, very clean and nicely decorated, the food in the onsite restaurant is excellent! Next time I'll sure to spend more days here :-) The owner Mrs Sakuna Bailey is a very kind host, thank you for everything, we really do enjoyed our stay in your gorgeous resort :-)
Cons: -
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Baan Sakuna is a recently opened hotel in beautiful grounds run by a local Thai family who bought the land 18 years ago when Chiang Khong was still a sleepy riverside town. The opening of the Freedom Bridge to Laos across the Mekong in 2013 prompted them to consider opening a hotel and the finished product is a stylish building with spacious, comfortable well-fitted rooms . The hotel is a short walk to the main CK downtown area and free hotel bikes are available. The restaurant/bar area is a large open-sided, well-shaded building and the food is excellent and reasonably priced by Thai standards. WiFi throughout is good. We stayed one night having crossed into Thailand from Tachilek in Myanmar to the Thai border post at Mai Sae. As there’s no direct public transport we needed a taxi to ferry us and this was where Baan Sakuna also scored - arranging a drive and car for 1,500 baht to meet us after we walked over the border bridge. The journey took about 90 minutes - the alternative would’ve been a bus to Chiang Rai and then a bus to Chiang Khong - a 4 hour trip assuming almost immediate connections at about half the price. Several times we had to alter the meet-up arrangement and every time Baan Sakuna proved really helpful responding promptly to email requests and queries in excellent English. Would definitely stay there again.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: - environment: the scenery around the area is great. My backyard view was nice and the place is located off the road and off of the main road enough so that there is little noise. - food: dinner was delicious (although I expected to see some Thai options but there weren't any), though if you want to order fries I was told it takes 25 minutes in their air fryer. Breakfast is included and the eggs & toast were hearty and good. They even served sliced banana from bananas that come from their property. - comfort: the room was spacious, the A/C worked, the hot water was OK (could have been a bit hotter though), and the bed was good. - internet: the internet worked fine - check-out process: checking-out was quick and easy. The woman also bought me my Greenbus ticket ahead of time and all my expenses were lumped into a single payment.
Cons: - location: This place is remote, so it's not a place to stay for a long time if you are looking for things to do. It's really a place to relax for a day or two in between trips.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Such a beatiful, comfy and clean location. But what made it a superb stay was the woman who runs the place. I got food poisening during the first night (from something i ate elsewhere) and she really cared for me the next day without asking. Bringing tea, ORS, etc.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The property is beautifully located in its own grounds, with great views from the room and it is difficult to add anything to surpass prior reviews. The room was simply lovely. Had I planned things better I would definitely have taken an extra night. Great restaurant food, nice breakfast and the best tea that I have had since arriving in Thailand. There was also the added bonus of there not being a cockerel within earshot for the first time in a couple of weeks!!

8.8 Excellent (5 reviews)
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Nice, clean, comfortable room, friendly host. She called a tuk tuk for me to go to bus station.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The rooms were extremely clean and comfortable. It is close to a major road but sets back quite a bit so the traffic noise was not too bad. Plus, after 7:00, there was very little traffic. We stayed here because it was close to the border and were planning to cross over the next day. If you are spending time in Chiang Khong, then you would want to be closer to the center of town. This hotel is outside of Chiang Khong but it is great if you are just going overnight to cross into Laos the next day. Hint: If you plan to stay here. Get off at the first stop for Chiang Khong...it will be the border stop. You can walk to the hotel from there. Also, the cafe down the road from the hotel is really good....Coffee Moja, I think!
Cons: They have coffee and tea in the lobby but it is instant coffee...I cannot drink instant coffee so would prefer drip coffee made in a coffee maker! Other than that, I have no complaints.

Pros: good location (mekong), very family atmosphere (we were invited to bbq) the hotel was better than expected
Cons: the room was worse than expected some need renovation (water pipes)
6.7 Good
Pros: Close to the bus station if heading to Chaing Mai
Cons: We booked a double but it was gone when we arrived and had to stay in the dorms. For the price I guess it is okay for what you pay for. Old sheets, lumpy mattresses and broken sink faucets.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Great relaxed place by the river. Beautifull and big woody double room with bathroom, table with chair and balcony space. Perfect privacity to be in family time and relax with river view. Restaurant and coffee place charming with relaxed views. Gentle people serving us and the baby. Great breakfast with home made bread by Malee. Thank you
Cons: Lack of cleansing in the bathroom
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Super amazing place. Staff so friendly and decent rooms. Such a chilled place and food was really good. Seems to be the only place good for food. Staff also arranged our tuk tuk to the border.
6.0 Good
Pros: The price
Cons: Communication very difficult as woman running the place couldn't speak a word of English. Some misunderstandings with the prices made me decide not to have breakfast at this place. Mattress very uncomfortable and room very basic. In any case, I was not expecting much due to the low price. Shared bathroom very basic, but I had it all for myself.

Pros: Great location on the Mekong, clean and tidy.

6.3 Good

10.0 Excellent

Cons: Cleanliness of the pool and breakfast area.
