Pros: Host and hostess were so friendly and helpful. They made breakfast earlier for us since we were leaving before serving time. Location was really neat. Up in the mountains in a small town.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The host was simply amazing. Language was no barrier between us Buffet breakfast was amazing and having stayed in places throughout the world I have never had a host who was happy for us to take away any of the breakfast goodies for your lunch. Most have frowned of taking away anything. Not these wonderful hosts. Beautiful place great hosts. A highlight of our journey through Portugal
Cons: Absolutely nothing

Quinta da Travessa - Covelinhas - Bedroom

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Charming traditional Portuguese house with fabulous views! The hosts, Christina and Nuno make staying there unforgettable and very special. Christina is a superb chef and Nino is a perfect host. Three course home cooked dinner made from locally sourced products was amazing! It was a great experience to dine with other guests from different countries. Highly recommend to stay at this amazing place!
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Location is off the beaten track. Hosts are charming and attentive. Definitely recommend having the home-made dinner. We very much enjoyed our all too brief stay.
Cons: The drive up to Covelinhas is a bit nerve-wracking. Definitely would not want to do it at night.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Our hosts were fabulous with service over and above what we could ever ask for. The food was delicious and prepared with care. The room was luxurious and beautiful and the location was tranquil. Nuno and Christina made this our most memorable stay..
Cons: That we had to leave after only 2 nights.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: There could not be a better place to stay in all of the Duro. Cristina and Nuno are such warm, welcoming and gracious people. Their quinto is beautiful and you simply must eat every dinner here. Cristina's cooking is SUPERB! We all want her to do a cookbook.
Cons: Loved it all.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Covelinhas is just a few train stops away from Pinhão or Régua. However it is the hosts, Christina and Nuno that make staying here so special. Recently renovated rooms look over the valley and river. The real gem is the three course home cooked and locally sourced evening meal - Cristina is a superb chef and her husband Nuno is a perfect host -particularly when he serves his wonderful 7 yo port at the end of the meal. Only three rooms but don’t miss out. This is a wonderful experience.
Cons: The drive from Régua. It’s hairy. Just get the train from Porto to Covelinhas and either Cristina or Nuno will pick you up. Once there you can catch the train to Pinhão to have lunch and visit the quintas. It’s a couple of Eros each way. Easy.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Owners are amazing, friendly, great dinners, everything homemade and nutritious, plenty of wine and port from their vineyards, huggable and very helpful owners, lovely rooms with fresh fruit from their garden
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A must stay when you are in the Douro Valley. Wonderful food and people who treat you like friends. We had great experience.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The folks who run the place Nuno and Christina are the best hosts we have met on our travels anywhere. The whole experience is like living at your own home. They are genuinely nice people who also happen to run an excellent B&B. The property is a small village, we had the suite which has an open sit out with an amazing view, the room is spacious for two people. There were so many things Nuno and Christina did which felt special to us, each day the breakfast is sumptuous and filling, the dinner was home cooked and superb. Each day Nuno would pick either a red or a white wine from the Douro valley plus as it is to be expected, we had port wine. We had three excellent dinners (pork, octopus and bacalao) and had some really wonderful conversations. Nuno himself grows live trees and is a wine grower, we were able to go with to see the olives being picked in his olive orchard and he also explained to us a lot about how farming is done in the valley. Added to this level of hospitality the location of the B&B makes it very easy to hit the road and take in all the breath taking landscape around the place, we had rented a car and this made is very very easy for us to get around. The train station for Covelinhas is like few minutes walk from the B&B but we did not use it.
Cons: The roads in and out of Covelinhas can be narrow in some places, it took me a day to get used to them, but this not uncommon in the area, the roads do get narrow so I would definitely recommend a compact or other smallish car.

Pros: Hospitality; renovated accommodations in historic building

10.0 Excellent
Pros: This was by far my favorite hotel in Portugal. I was just expecting a nice place to stay in the Duoro region. What we got was a five star boutique hotel experience that was more than we ever imagined! The complimentary tour and wine tasting were comprehensive and generous. I highly recommend dinner for your first night because after the wine tour you will be in no state to drive...nor will you want to, the property is gorgeous. You are also given fresh fruit and a small bottle of wine your room, compliments of the hotel. The property is covered in fruit trees and you are welcome to pick some or they have piles of fresh fruit throughout you can just take from. They also have a beautiful sauna/hot tub/turkish bath area in the orchard that you can book to have all to yourself for an hour. Staff were wonderful, our room in the old building (built in the 1700s) was spectacular and beautiful. In the morning I did the hike to the top of the property which took me an hour round trip with copious stops for photos (am do hike regularly though, so maybe 1.5 to 2 for those for whom uphill is a workout). I felt like I was living in a dream while at Quina Do Vallado and will definitely come back if I'm even in Portugal again.
Cons: Nothing, it was perfect.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was absolutely gorgeous. One of the nicest experiences I have ever had. The tour, the pleasant staff and beautiful surroundings are impeccable. There are only a few rooms so it is not crowded. I highly recommend this to anyone who stays in Douro valley and wants to do something special.
Cons: There is nothing not to like at this property.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic hotel - clean, well appointed rooms, beautiful grounds, excellent facilities. Lots of nice additional small touches like wine and fruit in the room. Incredibly peaceful. Breakfast and dinner were both excellent. One of the best places we have stayed at - would not have changed a thing!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We stay at a lot of hotels usually between $200-$400 where we don’t feel the need to write a review. However, we were notably impressed by the value for the money at Vallardo. The hotel was modern and elegant, the property was serene and relaxing, and the room was efficiently designed. We moved to Quinta da Pacheca the following night and wish we stayed here another night instead.
Cons: I think the food at the restaurant could be better. The wine is also just average amongst its competitors.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everyhing! First of all, the tour with vicente was amazing and full of interesting information regarding the winery and the proccess behind the wines. Dinner is highly recommended! The food is great and the cost included few glasses of wine as well. The rooms are quick big and it was really fun sitting on the balcony drinking wine. Great value for money! I wish to go back there someday
Cons: I booked a room in the new wing but i've been told at the arrival that we will sleep at the old building. That been said, after i showed the receptionist what i order she resolved it as quick as possible.

Pros: My wife and I were in Portugal for a week and this place was an absolutely one of the highlights. The owner, Joao, couldn’t have been more helpful, kind, generous and caring about his B&B. Owner Joao has a great breakfast every morning with fresh bread and cheeses from Lamego (a local village nearby). He had a list of recommendations of what to do in the area. Joao is without a doubt one of the most hospitable people we have ever met in our lives. Would definitely recommend staying here for anyone who is in the area of Peso da Regua. Owner owns the supermarket connected to the Bed and Breakfast. Family run business. Couldn’t find a more welcoming place near Peso da Regua.

The bathroom was huge and everything was very clean. Breakfast was great. Pros: This was the main house of a small vineyard. The staff was incredibly helpful. When we arrived it was lunch time and the hostess of the house made a reservation for us at a fabulous nearby restaurant and then took care of our bags so we wouldn't be late. They went out of their way to do nice things for us. It was almost like being a guest in a private home. There is a lovely pool and patio facing the hills where you can have cocktails. You can also hike to a private chapel up on the hill. Truly a lovely spot!
Cons: Nothing.

8.0 Excellent
Pros: It's a very beautiful place.
Cons: The breakfast was very simple, with few varieties.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We thought the Quinta was really high quality! We stay in A LOT of hotels and were impressed by the big and small attention to details. From the Angela's hospitality (truly great!), to the comfortable bed, high-end bathroom, beautiful views from our room -- it was really wonderful! We want to come back with friends some day. We chose to do the full dinner at the hotel (really, you are going to be hard pressed to have dinner anywhere besides the hotel because driving is dangerous at night) -- and it was a great experience! We had the steak and goat entrees that come with appetizers, soup, salad, a bottle of wine, and dessert. Really good, attentive service. And the hotel has lots of spaces to just sit and relax on sofas by fireplaces, so you really feel the quinta is your home and you don't have to stay pent up in your room.
Cons: It was a great place, highly recommend.

Pros: Comfortable room with a great river view.
7.9 Good
Pros: The property owner was very friendly although he speaks only Portuguese. Breakfast was delicious
9.6 Excellent
Pros: We spent 2 nights here and would have loved more. The owner was very helpful with what to see and suggestions of which wineries to visit in the area. The Quinta is beautifully decorated & furnished with large lounge areas. Our room was comfy with an fabulous view over the river Douro. A plentiful breakfast is served with homemade produce. Although the owners had limited English & we couldn't speak Portuguese my husband was able to communicate in French. Highly recommended.
Cons: Finding the house was a little difficult at first through a small village with narrow streets & we missed the last sign which was on the side wall. Turning around was a challenge, but worth the effort! Not having time to use the swimming pool.
7.0 Good
Pros: our bedroom window looked out onto a scene of rural tranquility and the duoro river; a place to get away from it. nearby are good-to-great restaurants and an outstanding vineyard and tasting room (quinta do tedo).
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Owner of the Qunita is welcoming each guest nicely and is very helpful. Nice is as well that breakfast is in the family kitchen on one big table with all hotel guests, thsu you get to know some persons during your trip. Our room was nicely decorated (roses behind the bed on the wall) and had an breathtaking view to the river and the Douro valleys. The most excisting was that the owner invited the guests to produce wine by stepping on the grapes.
Cons: Driving up to the Quinta is in narrow streets, but at least the way is short, well marked with signs and on the evenings there is enough light.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very good countryside hotel in a very nice region with a tremendous view to Douro river. The owners are very kind and are there always to help. The breakfast was served in the kitchen owners and was delicious. If you want to rest, you must choose this countryside hotel because you will only hear the birds in the morning. The hotel have a covered place to park at least 6 cars. Quinta da Azenha is higly recomended!
7.0 Good
Pros: We stayed in 9 hotels in Portugal. This is the most excellent one. The host is genuinely nice, not just being commercial. He has his own cellar making port. We were offered unlimited amount of welcome drinks (home made port). Although we did not had dinner at the hotel, we were offered some soup, dessert, wine and dessert free. The house is nicely decorated in a traditional Portugal style. The location is incredible with a fantastic view of the river. It is like traveling back in time to a quite Portugal village for a very authentic experience.
Cons: Not near any big city. You have got to drive. No internet - a blessing if you want a real break!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel family were very hospitable, the location is good for the Douro region.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: This is the best place of stay during our 14-days trip in Portugal. We have never stayed in the 600-years old house, we have never drunk such a tasty port wine made by the owner, and we have never met such hospitable owners. Damien and Louise very good speak French. They can provide you with all necessary information. And what delicious baked pudding and egg desert have been prepared by Louse. This is a calm and quiet place for a rest; there are magnificent views to the river and vineyards. The hotel is well-equipped cozy and comfortable. There are direction signs to the hotel on the road. The best way to come is to turn on the second second sign (from the side of Regua). The parking area is enough for 6 cars.
Cons: The field for comments above is too small for all my opinion about the hotel

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful setting and very kind and caring staff. The food and wine was fantastic.
Cons: No complaints at all!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic location, the views are a dream. We came there to relax and the place is perfect just for that. Staff is super helpful. The rooms are traditional and clean. The breakfast is exactly how I like it - small selection of very high quality food. The wine tasting was fun, the boat trip with wine tasting was great for meeting people, the wineyard hike was also a highlight.
Cons: For Portugal, it is expensive, but the quality is reflected in the prices. The only thing is that they offer only 3-courses fine dining dinner (50eur per person). Some nights we just werent that hungry and just wanted a soup, but that was not possible. It is a pity. Also bring water with you. I found the water in the hotel expensive (i think around 4eur for 0,7l). You get two bottles per room each day, but for us it was not enough, so we ended up paying a lot for water. But, saying all this, if money is not a problem for you, this is the place to go!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is remotely located with 30 minutes or more to other places on narrow twisty roads my husband loved to drive. The restaurant offers delicious food, but the small, set menus, which didn’t change during the 4 days we were there, did not offer enough flexibility for us. Also, they only offer their own wines, but will open and serve your wine without a corkage fee. We enjoyed hiking the property, lazing by the pool, leisurely breakfasts, and our first dinner. The views and decor are flawless, service is fantastic.
Cons: Our meal preferences did not match the limited tapas selections and there was no flexibility permitted in the main meal serving. Our 2nd night, after being told we couldn’t share a dinner, we reluctantly ordered two meals. The entrees that arrived were not what we ordered. The waiter acknowledged the mistake, apologized, and took them back to get the proper ones. It was 45 minutes later when we got well done lamb chops (absolutely NO pink) instead of medium rare as ordered. The waiter again apologized and offered to get us replacements. It only takes 10 minutes to correctly cook the lamb, so it was obvious our meal went to the end of the service line. It was well past time for us to eat so we declined. Other than the waiter, we never received any apologies or consideration from the chef or manager. Our following lunch and dinners were eaten offsite. The restaurant at Quinta Rosa was very nice and far more flexible. Also, a roadside restaurant directly on the other side of the river offered delicious local foods as great prices. My favorite was the fried quail plate.

Cons: Communication regarding booking wine tours and dinner in advance

Cons: Unable to do wine tour as full Rang before and asked if needed to pre book and told not necessary Could not accomodate us and we were a group together of 6 We were not happy
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Superb location inside a winery. The view is stunning and the amenities available make this a perfect place to relax, enjoy nature, or having a romantic stay. The wines from Quinta Nova are awesome and having dinner there is a nice opportunity to enjoy them all pairing with a very good meal.

Pros: Big house, would recommend for a family ir group. Great kitcheb facilities
Cons: The location - a bit far from the town, shops or restaurants
7.1 Good
Pros: View was beautiful and the grounds were lovely. Nice pool area but the water was too cold for a swim even though the temperature was 80 degrees plus. Breakfast was served in a dining room with a view. The coffee was hot and hot milk was provided. Rolls, homemade jams, yogurt, meats, cheeses, fruit and sweet breads as well as croissants were available.
Cons: The road to the hotel was straight up a winding road and super scary at night. There is one restaurant near the hotel and it is even farther up the winding road. The beds were uncomfortable but the area is very quiet.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Peace and quiet. Superb views over the River Douro. Only 5-10 minutes to drive to Regua for visits, boat trips, restaurants - once you know the way. Easy to find once you find the exit road from Regua to Fontelas. Nearby restaurant to the property is a 5 minute drive but a testing uphill walk, called Veranda de Douro - has great views and a good choice of food. The actual building at Nostra Senhora de Carmo has been beautifully and carefully restored and has a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere. There are plenty of places to sit and relax, read or admire the scenery (indoors and outdoors) and a good swimming pool. Safe parking is provided opposite the main entrance to the property. Our host was extremely kind and courteous, helpful with local information and recommendations.
Cons: Nothing. Perhaps a bit more variety at breakfast - some eggs would have been nice.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing location with great view. Pool was just the thing we needed. Rooms comfortable in a very nice old winery. Host was nice and often available, would do everything for you. The possibility to rent bikes was great.
Cons: All in all a bit expensive. The room was on the small side for what you paid for. Also you'd have to pay a premium for all the 'extra's' (pool towels for example). Amenities like coffee or a beer were on the expensive side (1,5 euro for a nespresso while an average Portugese café charges 1 euro for a fresh coffee). Bike rental on the expensive side (though we are used to dutch bike rent prices...)
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Winery Sta Julia that is close Breakfast

Pros: The location is lovely. There s a short walk to cheaper typical restaurant or a Michelin 1 star about 50m away if you have plenty of money.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Loved the bottle of Port complementary in our room! The location of this hotel is ideal for wine and port tasting - right on the Douro. There is a Michelin restaurant across the street and a small traditional restaurant within walking distance. The beds were very comfortable.
Cons: Not a thing
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Nice rooms, well equipped.
Cons: Restaurant shut!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely view and patio.
Cons: A bit difficult to find the reception.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Good hotel in a very good location to tour the Douro valley. Spacious room with a balcony to the river views. Good breakfast. Just across the road to DOC Michelin restaurant.
Cons: We had a creaky bed, not so comfortable. The elevator is only from first floor (not from street level) so there is no easy way to carry the luggage from the car to the hotel (very steep way or stairs to the first floor balcony, from which you can use the elevator).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The guy who checked us in was great. The woman who did breakfast and checkout was also lovely. Both of them were friendly and efficient.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The breakfasts were excellent and the location was delightful. The staff in particular were very pleasant and very helpful.
Cons: For me personally, I found access to the hotel a bit of a problem. The slope up to the reception area, which I had to access on arrival, was extremely steep. Although subsequently, with the internal lift system, this reduced the difficulty of the access from outside to a flight of steps, I still found this tiring at the age of 80 and had to rely entirely on the staff to manage my luggage which task I have to say they undertook very willingly.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Gorgeous location but you need your own transport. Staff certainly went out of their way to be helpful. Nearby restaurants - ranged from the village cafe, to a beautiful Quinta (Tedo) and another fine dining (DOC). All gorgeous. Will recommend this location to friends.

Pros: Suzanna was a great tour guide and the place was very authentic and beautiful.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The communal dinner after the tour was delicious and fun, and the group tour size was perfect for getting to ask and hear good questions. Beautiful views of the Douro valley.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful setting, informative tour of the winery, wonderful dinner, helpful and friendly staff.
Cons: Our bathroom had a strong sewer gas smell. Other rooms did not. It was very clean, however.
6.7 Good
Pros: Nice staff of young people . Pretty setting in Douro Valley
Cons: Too rustic. Briefly lost power on several occasions when fuses blew. They ran out of hand soap in the room’s bathroom. I had to ask for a hairdryer as none was supplied . No telephone in room. Had to go outside to ring reception bell when we needed anything.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A most excellent stay at Marrocos! Wonderful atmosphere, very warm and welcoming staff, and lovely dog and cat!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved how well we were received with a glass of port on the terrace overseeing the Douro River. Louis was a magnificent host, and we were thrilled that he was also our tour guide. This was by far the best we’ve experienced. He knew the industry extremely well, having grown up with vineyards. He still stomps grapes with his feet and he explained the whole process so wel. We highly the tour/dinner option: the food was excellent and the meal included two ports and wine.
Cons: The lighting in the bedroom could have been brighter.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This beautiful winery and orchard overlooks the Douro River and surrounding wineries. We had a car and so drove there but it is close enough to the town that you could take a taxi if you didn’t have a car. We had a winery tour and tasting there before the excellent dinner. Our accommodations were an entire small cottage. In the morning I went on a long hike up in the vineyard with the adorable winery German Shepard who made sure I made it safely back.
Cons: If you had mobility issues it could be a problem.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Unique experience, very well organized tour. Dinner & breakfast were delicious and above all the staff was very warm and friendly. The wine tasting was excellent.
2.5 Mediocre
Pros: Terrible experience/. Basically like staying in a mix between college dorm room and a creepy room out of a haunted house . We were one of only about 3 guests staying there. The room did not have a private bathroom and was not advertised as such. The power went out constantly and we even got locked out one night!

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Clean and comfortable accommodation, with accessable location to local attractions. Good mountain views. Welcoming glass of homemade port was delicious.
Cons: Host has limited English vocabulary although he managed with phone app. Some tourist information wellcome pack would be useful.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The view from the balcony was great. There was a communal kitchen as well for the guests which was very handy. Rooms were very clean. Restaurants and cafés are in the neighbourhood.
Cons: Everything was good. No negatives.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The balcony was great for sitting out and the shared kitchen was spacious, very well equipped and always spotlessly clean. There is a well stocked supermarket within easy walking distance of the property. It was interesting to meet some of the other guests who also shared the kitchen. Parking for the car was in the road just outside the property.
6.3 Good
Pros: Location is great and close to bike trails! Host also has two bikes that you can rent for $10 per day each. Property is kept very clean. Lastly, host is very friendly and leverages google translate to communicate with English speakers.
Cons: Bed was extremely hard and uncomfortable and many of the towels smelled like mold/mildew.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Good place to see Douro Valley from by car
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The unit is wonderfully located on a quiet street close to a supermarket (Lidl) and restaurants accessed by a short walk along the riverfront road. There is lots of space in the shared kitchen and living room (1 kitchen/living room on each of the two levels). Each of the bedrooms (6 in all, 3 on each level, each with its own bathroom) has lots of space with a balcony with nice views. The lady who handled our check-in was very sweet showing us all of the rooms we could choose and was patient in explaining how things worked despite our lack of fluency in Portuguese. She refused our offer to drive her back to her office. Make sure you know where to check in as it is about 1km away from the Casa on a narrow street with lots of competition for parking. The is also an Intermarche about 1km west of the Casa with a gas bar that prices fuels well below the competition.
Cons: The house was cold inside (we visited in late October) and, although the bedrooms have air conditioners with a heating mode, the living room, kitchen and bathroom did not...........brrrrrrrr. The location of the check-in office isn't ideal as there is lots of competition for limited parking. The kitchen doesn't have an oven so make sure your meal can be prepared on the gas stove or in a small microwave.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: My room and cleaners on arrival.
Cons: Had to drag luggage to train because no one there to help get taxi. No one there.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely beautiful rooms, a little out of the center of town but not inconvenient. We overlooked the lovely family garden and the vineyards above the town.
Cons: We had to buy breakfast food down the road at the grocery store, but didn’t mind that.

Pros: I spent one night at this little gem in the countryside. Sofia is the most exquisite and friendly host. She works hard to run this place, welcoming visitors and growing her own fruits and vegetables. Breakfast was gorgeous : strawberries from the garden, warm bread just brought by the baker and homemade marmelade. A must ! Sofia gave me wonderful tips about to see in the neighborhood. I would definitely come back.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly and helpful people. Nice swimming pool. Good breakfast . Quiet place. Nice views.
Cons: The style of the site was not our style. There was a smell in the bathroom. We told them after the first night, we could change immediately to another room.
7.9 Good
Pros: Gojim casa rural is managed by a small team willing to accommodate any extra wishes the guests have. We ordered lunch and dinner asking for specific meals/recipies and they were all deliciously cooked. The pool is great, the village tranquil. We love having long walks, so Gojim and the neighbouring villages offered fantastic routes through apple, plum, cherry groves, and vines, passing 13th century chappels here and there. The owners of the hotel also arranged for a private-guide tour to the Douro valley on boat and private car: we had a very memorable day-trip and enjoyed it to the full. All in all, we have returned rested and ready to go back to school. Thank you Donna Margarita and the family for our stay.
