I went to Cozumel, Mexico and had not book any transportation yet, because we would like to check the situation first and decide to get car, taxi, scooter or other possible transportations. We decided to rent a car, however with local vendors we need to hassle and bargain, and it’s not cheap. I ended up book a car online (using Kayak, offered by Expedia). It had fair price, payment was done online and we got decent car for the price. with local car rental, i would get car without door or manual car. Altho it looks cool and hip, but it’s raining here and there, so I’m glad we got small sedan - with AC and we got automatic car too! Thanks Alamo Cozumel! we had pleasant trip and service :)

They did not have the car that I reserved. Also added additional fees at the pickup. They offered to take me to the hotel and deliver the car the next day, but we had already booked a tour that we needed the car for and honestly I didn’t trust them.

We arrived at Alamo and they did not have a vehicle for us. They said Kayak did not confirm whether Alamo had cars available. It was the worst car rental experience I have ever had.

A refund.

Cons:

I bought the insurance online when I reserved the car but when I went to pick up the car the employee said the insurance I bought online was worthless. He said I need to buy insurance from him or I wouldn't have any, or very little liability coverage. I didn't appreciate having to buy insurance twice.

A total scam - they charge enormous fees for insurance. I brought a copy of my credit card contract and they refused to let me get its coverage. It cost more for the insurance than the actual rental. Avoid these guys and go with someone who is legitimate and honest. I will never rent from them again. Ever!

We prepaid for a vehicle, pickup after 12pm- there was no way to change the pickup time when making reservations. Our flight didn't arrive until 5pm but given that we had prepaid for our desired vehicle, it seemed logical they would have one there for us. During my flight I get a notice that they canceled car reservation since had not picked up yet, even though it was prepaid! Upon landing, the main phone number would not provide me a phone number for the specific pickup location, said that they would not refund my money, and that i needed to go to the location to see in any car was available for me, at additional costs to me. So we had to leave the airport, unsure if we had a rental car, get to the car agency, and they only have SUVs available for TWICE the price of the car we had reserved! So we are stranded if we dont agree to the additional price. Very much a "Bait and Switch". Remember, we had PAID UP FRONT, there was no risk of them loosing rental money by holding our reserved car for us.

They did not have the car in class available and then offered me a smaller car for the same price. After lots of haggling, they reduced the price marginally, tried to sell me insurance I didn't need, and then gave my car to another customer and said it was their last car, so I did not end up renting the car. It was a horrible experience.

The local operation is a scam The insurance was 3x the cost of the online rental ,and changed 4x ln a five minute conversation. We walked back to the airport with all of our luggage and rented from Hertz.

The process went smooth, but there were a ton of fees added on that we were not prepared for. The rental ended up costing us $1100 for only 3 days
