Drop OffCons: The drop-off was a nightmare. The drop-off location was extremely difficult to find, no signage telling us where to park, where to drop the keys, etc. We had to do a lot of guessing and walking around asking and looking for help. In the end, we weren't sure we had done the right thing or that we had left the car or the keys in the right spot. The support phone number had no answer.

Great experiencePros: The staff was friendly and helpful. Not pushy about add-ons. They let us store bags for a bit until we had to leave for our flight.
Pros: Staff were helpful and friendly and pickup/drop off was easy.Cons: More instructions could have bee provided on how to charge our electric car - We should have been told to download an app to charge our car around town, how to actually charge the car, etc. Plus, the first EV car we were given did not charge correctly, but the second did.
Pros: Check in was easy. The car was nice and clean and was very fuel efficient. Drop off was easy too.Cons: The car was smaller than I expected. We reserved the largest option available for what we planned to bring person and luggage wise (SUV). It was a tight fit with our luggage and passengers.

Cons: Nobody “at” point of return to check out car in my presence ....

Pros: The car was nice but much smaller than They advertised. Said it’s a car for 5 people and 2 suitcases. I could fit one suitcase in the trunk. The second had to be placed on the Backseat. Therefore it is more a car for 3 if one Has 2 suitcases.Cons: This car is not a midsize but a Small size. The garage where the pickup is Has terrible lighting and it’s Therefore very difficult to inspect The car before driving off.

One of the best car rental experiences I've hadPros: The agent who helped us was incredible. We messed up and forgot about time zones and time differences and booked a reservation for June 30th, when we wouldn't arrive in Norway till July 1. She was incredibly flexible, found a car (a BMW!!) that was nicer than the one we reserved, and was able to give us a significant discount. It was still a bit more expensive than the original car we reserved, but not by much. Everything was easy. The car was clean and ran very smoothly. The price was GOOD. I have spent more money on rentals in the US for a long weekend than we did for 10 days in Norway. Highly recommend!

Good rentalPros: Excellent service at pickupCons: Drop off charge in same country is exorbitant. Drop off point inBergen airport is poorly marked. Vehicle was ok but far from new.

My car given awayCons: When i got to my final destination. They told me it was given away and tried putting me into another car that was $450 more almost $700. I was able to get a Hertz rental- they should never give a car to someone else.

Forced upgrade and unexpected chargesPros: We drove a Volvo V70 in great condition.Cons: I was an hour late for pick up and they had given away my car claiming this standard practice and comparing it to a hotel giving away your room if your are late (which has never happened to me). The only option they offered was an upgrade from a compact car to a luxury station wagon at 300NOK extra a day. They agreed on reducing the additional charge to 100NOK a day because they had made no attempt to contact me before giving away my car, but the whole experience was very negative. Between the upgrade, extra mileage, and the unexpected daily toll system fee, our rental cost double the price quoted on kayak.

Great Experience with SixtPros: The Ford Galaxy was great for my group of 5 adults. The diesel motor is quiet, powerful and quite economic despite the large load.We drove through the mountains to Bergen and it performed well. The service at the Sixt outlet in Oslo was good although some explanation on the navigation system would have been helpful.Cons: The Sixt outlet at the Bergen airport was a bit confusing to find but the personal were very nice to deal with once found.

BEWARE!!! Overcharged & Terrible Customer ServicePros: I reserved an "economy" car, but was given a Mercedes Benz with less than 5,000 km on it. Awesome car - but then was charged additional insurance for it.Cons: I called a week before rental to confirm deposit amount so that I would have enough room available on credit card. Also inquired about any additional fees/deposits required at check-in (this was a rental abroad). When I showed up, the safety deposit was nearly 2x as much as was quoted, and 4x the rental price. Also, a deposit was required for toll roads - an additional $100 had to be reserved. Luckily, a friend had an extra card for emergencies and we were able to get the car. We returned the car outside office hours without a problem, but freaked when the final charge came in a week later. The "itemized" receipt was a list of codes that I couldn't decipher. I emailed the billing department (and heard back a week later), the codes were for insurances we had declined (but were applied because we were given a Mercedes), tolls, a parking ticket we never got, and the administrative fees for ticket. THE ADMINISTRATIVE FEES WERE THE SAME COST AS THE ALLEGED PARKING TICKET. I'm still trying to get proof of this parking ticket but haven't heard back. Currently disputing charges with credit card. I'LL NEVER RENT WITH SIXT AGAIN.
Cons: Drop off was terrible. Avis sent us to an unmanned office without any warning. That cost us hours of our time.

Avis was horriblePros: I have commented directly with AvisCons: Lost reservation, trying to force me into a manual when an automatic was reserved, price was higher than quoted by Kayak

Fooled by pricePros: The car was perfect for the traveling I was doing. Comfortable and clean. Was nice being able to rent a wifi device for the car. Pick up went wellCons: The price I was quoted in my booking was WAY different than what I ended up actually having to pay... about $200 more! Be aware for all the fees and ask for clarification.

Very helpful staff memberPros: I had some problems with my reservation and the staff member there (I think her name was Gri )?)) went above and beyond to help fix them. Ultimately it didn't work but her excellent effort is what I remember.Cons: The rest of the staff appeared busy but I'm not sure if they were as helpful to the waiting customers - yes there was a line. Also the location is not so easy to get to unless you're aware of the metro lines.

Pros: Very nice people to work with at service desk.Cons: Left a jacket in the car came back to claim it but it was gone.
Never got this goddamn carCons: Dollar Car rentals is just a non existing company in Oslo central station, nobody knows about it (station information, even Hertz employees from which I was supposed to get the car, the reservation was not in their system). So I lost one day and never get the car, then had to go to the airport to get a car from another company. I don't know if it's a scam or just a bad synchronization between dollar and kayak systems, but NEVER RENT FROM DOLLAR IN OSLO.

One of the major advantages of renting a car during your time in Oslo is that it allows you to be free to pop between all of the city’s wonderful sites. For instance, the Oslo Fjord is just outside of the city and is within quick and easy reach if you have car. With a car you can even explore the area by yourself instead of being stuck on a planned group tour.

If you are arriving in the winter, make sure then that you are prepared for snowy roads. Though the roads are very well-maintained throughout Norway, snow can still pile up quickly at times. Drivers are recommended to check the weather ahead of time before embarking on any major journeys and to be prepared for the weather to turn if there is snow in the forecast.
Rush hour traffic in Oslo is not the most severe but it can certainly put a damper on your day. For travelers looking to avoid the congestion, they are best off avoiding the road between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. However, if you must hit the road during those times, make sure to avoid E6 and E18 since they are two of the most congested roads in Oslo.

Smaller vehicles such as compacts, sedans, and coupes are by far the best options for travelers looking to drive in Oslo. The city is designed for smaller vehicles, so drivers of large cars will find the downtown core to be ill-suited for them. However, in the outer areas of the city, large cars become a bit more common. So, if your plan is to go on a broader Norwegian adventure, then perhaps a medium-sized car would be more appropriate.
For densely populated residential areas in Oslo speed limits are typically 50 km/h (31 mph), while in less populated areas they go up to 80 km/h (50 mph). On major motorways the speed limit will get up to 110 km/h (68 mph).

Streetside parking and parking garages are the most common forms of parking available in Oslo. In the central districts of the city, however, parking garages are by far the best option for travelers as they can easily park downtown and then take public transport to get around the popular tourist areas.
