I expected a moderately okay mountain town hotel with scuffs and scrapes....I was pleasantly surprised to see that this hotel was far nicer. The rooms are nicely updated with a luxurious feel and were very clean. Hotel staff was pleasant and helpful. The free breakfast was quite good and the ability to walk to downtown Durango was fantastic.
Very nice & well located hotel. Not sure if it was really worth the high price tag, but other than that, no complaints.
Visited Durango with some buddies for a ski trip...Great location! Only about a 20-25 minute drive to the resort, and a short walk to the downtown area. Friendly, laid-back staff allowed us to check in even though we were three hours early. We were given vouchers for breakfast, and the food was awesome. The room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. Great indoor hot tub especially after a long day of snowboarding. I have stayed in various hotels in and around Durango, and this is by far my favorite!!
It is close to a lot of activities, but for me it is close to my daughter who attends college in Durango.
The hotel was in a great location, overlooking the Animas River. The room was spacious and very clean. Breakfast at the restaurant was very nice.
Nice, clean room with good amenities. Super comfortable bed. The whole hotel is clean and quiet, also a higher level of decor than most hotels in the area.
The hotel was very clean with very nice staff. The location was very convient for our stay.
Excellent stay the night of Sept 6, 2010. Front desk was friendly & helpful, room accommodations excellent, restaurant food & service very good. Towels large & fluffy. The cookies at check-in were yummy! Room rate is pretty high for Durango, but surely one of the best places to stay in Durango
i may not be like a connoisseur of fine ski lodge, but i should qualify a bum. went without younger children this trip and met up with fairly large marital ceremony. between plenty of fast slopes and zero crowds, (yet plenty of other local fun loving snow fans) and town night life at the derailed saloon, i consider this top destination and far from expectation implied by the name 'Purgatory'!!!! miss it much only until next year! i was very pleased w/ my stay at the double tree in durango. my wife and i are young and many time when staying in nicer establishments, we are given very poor service. i guess the employees don't think they will get a tip, but we are from austin, tx where the richest guy in the room could be wearing flip-flops and no shirt. so don't judge a book buy its cover hotel people. you never know what that wallet holds; but we didn't get any bad service at the doubletree. the room was priced only slightly higher than your low-rent roach motels nearby, and we had a river view w/ a balcony and it was geourgeous. i would recomend it to anyone staying in durango to stay at the doubltree. oh, by the way, i wouldn't go for the city view, i think you might be dissapointed unless you like looking at higways and traffic lights.
The check in at the hotel was quick and easy. The hot cookies were great. However, the description of our room was one king bed with balcony and city view. There was no balcony, the carpet was out dated, and though the bathrooms were nice and elegant, they had no exhaust fans. This made things a little awkward. When we needed to stay another night, the front desk almost had to call a rocket scientist. The breakfast was not free; forty dollars for two to be exact, and it was not good. I am no picky eater either. On top of this, the breakfast staff engaged in an argument about crumb wiping procedures with our table in between them. This was very classy. Every morning the guests or staff above us began slamming stuff around at seven am. The indoor hot tub and pool are nice, but be careful. The hot tub is EXTREMELY hot, and was about a hundred and ten degrees. Our skin was red when we got out. The surface of it is uncoated and extremely rough. There is a very deep entry step that I missed one night. It took the skin off of my foot and rolled my ankle. I had not been drinking either. When I asked for the first aid kit that they claimed to have for each guest, the clerk opened a gray box and gave me some one inch band aids. I went to the grocery store for my own. Durango is an awesome beautiful place, but don?t let this hotel ruin your stay.
Had a great view of the river from our room, bottom floor. The only bad experience was the staff in the restaurant, who were rude or just didn't like 'Biker' folks. \n\nReal close to downtown. Within walking distance. We found several eating establishments who were glad to have our business.
