10.0 Excellent
Pros: Rooms, facilities
Cons: Price of breakfast
9.7 Excellent
Pros: Had a wonderful stay. Great location to explore the rain forest of Costa Rica. Had a wonderful room with beautiful views. Fabulous bathroom with huge Jacuzzi tub and separate shower. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Great to come back to the resort after hiking, zip-lining and ATV-ing and relax at the hot springs. Will definitely return.
Cons: Breakfast was very expensive. Buffet was $25++. The bill was $125.00 for our family of 4. We shopped in town and had breakfast in the room. Was still enjoyable. There was a fridge, coffee. Would be nice to have options for breakfast.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I love everything about Tabacon but the prices are outrageous.
Cons: The prices are much more expensive. I have been here many times and reccomended it to others. Now I have to change this from my go to place in the area because it is much too expensive especially the spa. Too bad because I love tabacon. But I will only do the day pass now.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing hotel! Everything is just PERFECT! They take care of everything for you. The service is unbelievable, the room is huge, the facilities are in a very good condition, and the view from the room is just astonishing. And the best thing of all is that you have unlimited access to the natural hot springs. If I'll ever return to Costa Rica, I will certainly visit Tabacon again. It's not that expensive for what you get.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Ephemeral dinner and Thermal River were amazing! The service and people too! And the staff went our of their way to make the 3 nights very special for us. Thank you!
Cons: 1. Having to shuttle between the two locations;; would be great to have a BRIDGE from one location to the other where we can actually walk. Tomar Shuttle y no poder caminar de un lado de Tabacon al otro. Depronto un puente peatonal seria ideal. 2. Needs more SIGNS indicating where to go. It is easy to get lost. 3. Need to extend the hours until 11pm. Perhaps you can use SOLAR FLOOD lights for night walks.
7.9 Good
Pros: Hot springs and Spa are good.
Cons: There is no hand shower. There is only showerhead. The breakfast is too boring if you stay there several days.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I’ve been there several times now, and it continues to be my preferred plan when I need to scape from the city and spend some relaxing time. The attention is superior, they really care about the satisfaction of their guests and make each stay special. This last time I was received by Elena, Andrew, Juan Jose, and the rest of the staff that made my stay fabulous! Very very recommended!
Cons: .
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Awesome experience
Cons: They have to work more in their Menu options, it is very limited
9.7 Excellent
Pros: The hot springs make it worth the price. We stayed for one night, but enjoyed two days on the hot springs and pools. We absolutely loved it and recommend it.
Cons: Do not expect great food. Both breakfast and dinner were highly overpriced for the quality. Dinner was so disappointing, we spent about $100 for two entrees, one appetizer and two beers, but the ribeye was could barely edible, and the special nothing to brag about. They also offer a buffet by the pool for $39/person, which we didn't try. Breakfast for $25/person was also a rip off considering I only enjoyed the fruits and yogurt. The rest of the buffet was not great, so I barely touched it. They need to invest in better food in my opinion...
6.7 Good
Pros: Room was clean and it was raining
Cons: I was really disappointed. I went to celebrate my birthday and I called to confirm the reservation and mentioned I want all the birthday props, the band in the door, everything. I arrived and mentioned the same to the man doing the checking and when I arrived to the room there was no band at the door, anything. I felt really disappointed and gave my complains to the bellman. Guess what? Nothing happened, I had to call to the front desk and complain (again).... I requested 4x for the birthday props
9.0 Excellent
Pros: What a lovely hotel. Certainly a perfect place to spend a 50th birthday. We did the private dinning experience which was great as well.
Cons: It’s a pain that the thermal spa is across the road.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The surroundings were beautiful with the volcano as the backdrop. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Shuttle service to spa and springs was very timely.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: You really get your money’s worth at this property. The landscaping is gorgeous, the accommodations are comfortable, and the staff is very welcoming. Every morning, we enjoyed views of Arenal Volcano from our porch and ended the evening in the hot springs with a drink in hand. We will definitely stay at this property again if we return to Costa Rica.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The termal pools were a piece of heaven on Earth. The level of services and sympathy of the staff are remarkable. The place is beautiful nature-wise and very calm and relaxing.
Cons: Honestly there was nothing that I didn't like.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: They made every effort to make us feel comfortable and even upgraded our room/bungalow. The thermal waters felt great and our bartender made every effort to please us. Breakfast was simple, but appetizing. I wished we had stayed here more time. Thank you!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed here in low season, which was great because we were almost alone in the hot spring area and the rooms were cheaper. On the other side, they had some construction work in the hotel and it was a bit loud. Room is very nice.
Cons: I would appreciate if there was more choice for breakfast and if they served espresso coffee.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I definitely want to come back here! Location, hot springs, the farm, good restaurant, spa, excellent service!
Cons: No door noobs for some reason on the front doors of chalets
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The property was peaceful and beautifully kept. Room was nice and comfortable.the staff was professional, helpful and knowledgeable. Breakfast was good. We loved the fresh fruit and the huevos rancheros- other items also good but would have liked just a bit more variety - some sort of meat side option would be good.
Cons: Having to give coupons to retrieve pool towels wasn’t always convenient- we went to the pool one night after the bar was closed and therefore didn’t have towels. I appreciate the desire to limit excessive towel use but would have been better to just provide pool towels in the room. More shelf or drawer space would be good in the room to unpack.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Basically Everything
Cons: There was no gym facility!!! Hopefully on my return there will be one
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was amazing. The free breakfast was very nice with both typical American and Tico fare. They gave us a free facial for staying 2 nights. I also got a great massage. The Spa is beautiful and tranquil. The hot springs were fantastic and unbelievably uncrowded. The staff were super friendly and helpful.
Cons: Nothing.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful place, lovely rooms, great staff
Cons: The food was not as good as expected
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything from the rooms to the staff was EXCELLENT! The staff was very helpful! Had a lovely time, thank you for everything!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: An amazing hotel. Really beautiful and great facilities. The thermal pools and the spa were great! Shower was great with jets. The staff (especially Jose) were absolutely fantastic. Great service, food and drinks by the pool as well. Incredible view of the volcano.
Cons: The only thing and it’s minor to me, if you go to breakfast a little late (after 9), the food is cold but they make fresh omelettes so that’s nice and delicious
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Awesome hot springs pools. All of the staff was friendly, accommodating and professional. Jason from the restaurant/bar was extremely helpful and told us interesting and helpful facts about the area and history of Arenal. Good access to everything!
Cons: Very close to traffic and noisy from our room, but not as noisy from the pools.
9.7 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable and luxury rooms, great volcano views.
Cons: Food at rhe bar a little pricey
7.9 Good
Pros: The restaurant in the hotel was Amazing!! Even if you don’t stay at the hotel you have to go there if you visit la portuna . The hotel was nice and the room was ok (we’ve been at the standard room)
Cons: It was our honeymoon and the hotel was half empty (was off season) and they didn’t upgrade our room or even brought us a bottle of wine . No bottles of water at all in the room not even a mini bar with drinks so you have to buy at the lobby or in town
9.6 Excellent
Pros: This is the best hotel that I stayed in Costa Rica. The manager was extremely friendly and always on top of everything. The hot tub was really really nice. The breakfast tasted really good. The room was extremely high quality. The location is amazing. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.
Cons: The room service options weren't that amazing. I wish the restaurant would expand that menu a bit more. Also, there are a bunch of smaller mineral pool areas behind the bar. That seemed a bit dirty to me.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great location, very customer-centric, convenient to fun activities, interesting tours, and good restaurants
Cons: Breakfast and coffee not available until 6:30. Activities have early start times so breakfast at least by 6 would be better
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything! The service, staff, location and things to do! Reservation department rocked it when helping me schedule a surprise.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely stunning. Great deal. Very friendly.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed for 2 nights to go and see Arenal volcano and the area. This eco lodge is in a fantastic location with amazing views of the volcano. The owner Jonathon and his mum were the loveliest hosts they made us feel so welcome and Johnathan gave us so much advice on places to go in the area which was priceless. The eco lodge itself was comfortable and there was so much wildlife there it really is a hidden gem.
Cons: The only thing I would say could be improved was we had breakfast and dinner here and you had no choice on the food you had. The food was home cooked and was nice but a couple of options to choose from would be good.
7.5 Good
Pros: The view is probably the best to the volcano, we had the best sunrise ever! The place feels very much in tune with nature, and if we hadn't been to the hard core jungle before (eg corcovado) we would have loved that aspect. If we were there to just chill in the place, as small nature retreat we would have loved it. The price was great as well, so it really depends on what you are looking for!
Cons: Our main reason to book this place was the peaceful view and atmosphere. However, being a bit far and inaccessible from everything made the whole experience a bit annoying. After arriving to Arenal we realized the view to the volcano is great from almost anywhere. We also didn't expect it to be so more into the eco than into comfort. It can get quite hot in the bungalow, and there will be many insects if the windows are left open at night. Wifi didn't reach our bungalow either, and when there is nothing else to do... Can be quite annoying.
7.0 Good
Pros: The view was wonderful, and the owners/staff were incredible and made us feel very welcome!
Cons: The area was pretty secluded (probably necessary for the view). So we had to drive into the city to get food/atm, which at night/in the rain is not ideal.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing place to stay and enjoy extraordinary views on Arenal volcano. Jonathan and his family are great hosts. The lodges are perfect.
Cons: WiFi could be better, but to be honest, you don't really it. Just enjoy the place the animals and the views.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great view on the volcano if the wether is good, great wild life spotting around the hotel, Jonathan spotted out a sloth minutes after our arrival. Great breakfast, nice outdoor communal area, cozy private cabins. Great Tipps and help with things to see and do around. Free hot springs, hiking tours and Rio Celeste!
Cons: Room not redone between nights, no restaurant close by in rainy season so make sure you have a snack with you in case it rains a lot or ask for dinner before 17h.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: We stayed for 2 nights. The staff (Jonathan) was super friendly and entertaining. Normally you would have a beautiful view but because it was cloudy during our stay there we could only see the foot of volcano Arenal.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location, totally worth it, the owners were amazing people and I loved how they made you feel at home
6.7 Good
Pros: Beautiful place and view, very quiet
Cons: When they started drilling at 6 am, there is no ac or fan, which is needed, wifi poor or non existant, also more pillows would be nice

Cons: Nothing comes to mind.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: After traveling for almost 2 months during honeymoon, The Springs become the highlight of our honeymoon! It started from the friendly welcoming of the staff (they know how to make you feel special!), and then the complimentary gifts (good wine and spa for both of us). The hotel property is HUGE, with so many different things you could do, that we didn't leave the area for our whole stay. It is quite and peaceful (also thanks to the offseason). The Grande Vista room was just perfect for us, the room is really spacious and clean, it has a Jacuzzi bath and huge windows watching the beautiful Arenal mountain! As for the activities - don't give up on the horse riding down in Club Rio! We had an absolutely amazing experience with our guide Nano who so friendly and kind to take beautiful pictures of us that will stay with us forever!! The Spa is also really good! The facilities are very nice and our therapists - Dayanna and Rosario were very polite and professional, making sure we feel comfortable and relaxed during the whole time and that the pressure is just as we want it. To summarize it all in one word - Perfection! I would like to say thank you to The Springs, for one of a kind experience, the whole staff who do an amazing job here and special thanks to Nano, Dayanna and Rosario!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The property is perfectly situated facing the Volcano which is in the middle of your picture window when you wake up every day. The mineral pools are fantastic, well designed with waterfalls and tons of floral. Temperatures are between 104 and 88 and all the pools have healing effects. They spared no expenses with this resort and it is 5 Star quality hotel. I highly recommend a visit and be prepared to stay there all day no need to go anywhere else.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great place to stay beautiful room and great view. Staff were very friendly. 20 minutes into town.
Cons: Drinks were over priced.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel itself is on par with some of the top hotels around the world I’ve stayed in. Then there are the springs and the river facilities which truely make it 10/10.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The Springs was amazing! I loved everything about it except for the price. Expect to be overjoyed with everything except the costs & maybe the food. We didn't love the sushi bar.
Cons: We thought the food was overpriced for what we got. Also, it would have been nice if we didn't have to pay for everything outside of the pools & room.

Pros: Beautiful views amazing place
Cons: None

Hotel Rancho Cerro Azul - La Fortuna - Building

9.5 Excellent (112 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Hotel Rancho Cerro Azul in La Fortuna, you'll be within a 10-minute drive of Arenal Volcano National Park and La Fortuna Waterfall. Featured amenities include laundry facilities and a safe deposit box at the front desk. A shuttle from the airport to the hotel is provided for a surcharge (available 24 hours), and free self parking is available onsite.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Nice and quiet location and the gardens around the individual huts were fantastic - full of hummingbirds just hovering around you as you sat outside or walked to your hut. Plenty of room for a family of four in the hut and a nice hammock on the outdoor seating area again in the middle of the beautiful gardens. Nice walk down to the river (although in the rainy seasons it was quite fast flowing but doesn't stop you paddling). Short drive into La Fortuna or down to La Salta for the rope swing into the river (fantastic and your could walk to the latter). Plenty of parking for rental cars. Great base for exploring La Fortuna and beyond. You're given a nice print out of the tours on offered by the accommodation too for you to peruse in your own time - and they aren't pushy about them either.
Cons: Bathrooms could have been better decorated - half an effort by someone to paint above the shower with yellow paint but left patchy and thin. Took away from the professional finish of the rest of the place. No real interaction with the staff after we checked in either as the huts don't require you to talk through reception or the bar which is a shame as you don't really get to know the staff (probably my fault for not dining there or using their tours). I do think at the price you pay for this accommodation that breakfast should be included - adds to the overall experience, interaction and getting to know the staff. Another chair or two outside would have been useful for a family of four!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Our cabin was spacious and comfortable. The grounds are extraordinary with gorgeous flowers and foliage everywhere... So lush that our cabin porch and deck were private. Estevan was a fabulous bartender and Alejandra was the perfect host. Breakfast was delicious and I would encourage others to have dinner there as well.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location about 5 minutes from downtown La Fortuna. We really enjoyed being close but not in the busier part of town. This hotel is family-owned and it was palpable. Alonso, the owner, was our host, waiter and travel planner, all at different times. His brother, Roy, our bartender and travel planner. We met their parents, spouses, children and extended family. It literally felt like vacationing with the part of your family that you really like. That said, we had all the privacy we wanted and needed. All cabins are a very short walk from the reception desk and you feel like you are in a secluded and romantic getaway. The breakfasts and dinners were surprisingly delicious. It was like a local gourmet restaurant built into a quaint and beautiful boutique hotel. They even had a trail for a night tour where we saw plenty of wild animals. And they helped us schedule an in-cabin massage/facial/body-wrap that was arguably one of the best spa-like treatments we have ever experienced. I would stay here again 100%!
Cons: Nothing to dislike at all.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very nice villas in middle of a beautiful garden. The room are confortable with everything you need
7.5 Good
Pros: Breakfast good
9.4 Excellent
Pros: The cabin was awesome.
Cons: More air conditioning needed.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I would definitely stay here again! Minutes from town and minutes from la Fortuna waterfall. The staff was amazing and so helpful! Needless to say we rented the villa and it was amazing!!
7.0 Good
Pros: The room is nice and cozy, every room is a cabin with a cute balcony and lots of plants outside.
Cons: The smell in the room is not good. Smells very old and no fresh air. even if you want to open the windows it’s not really possible (I couldn’t open the window... also there are no nets, and you don’t want to take the chance that animals or insects will get in the room).
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great location close to Arenal and overlooking many beautiful tropical plants and wildlife. Loved the hammock on the back patio. Very friendly staff and good breakfast. The included hot springs entrance was a bonus.
Cons: Bed was decent but made a loud groaning noise when you moved. Lighting in the bathroom could have been better.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Staff was very friendly, gardens were beautiful, breakfast was delicious and the cabins were really cute.
Cons: Bed was squeaky but not uncomfortable.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, lodgeing and grounds were very nice.
Cons: Wish there was a better view of the volcano as it was described in the hotel description.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I cannot say enough about our stay at the Volcano Lodge and Springs. We booked it because the rainy season rates were hard to pass up and because 95% of previous guests rated it Excellent. The room rates were so low that I wondered if the ratings could be true...but I have never had more good things to share about a hotel experience! We stayed in a superior room with an amazing view of Arenal from our porch. The property is designed so that the view from your patio makes you feel like you are at a private villa. All we saw before us was Arenal and lush vegetation. There were people next to us but we never saw or heard them. You couldn't even see where the cars were parked. It was almost total solitude. The room was attractive and clean. The beds were comfortable. The shower was always warm. Our room was only a short walk from the main pool and mineral springs which was a pleasant surprise. Others will have to walk further but the grounds are so nice that the walk is like a stroll in a garden. I read some reviews that the breakfast was adequate but nothing special. I have no idea what they were talking about! To me it was a wonderful daily brunch. We stayed 4 nights and looked forward to each morning. Most food items stayed the same but how can you complain about having fresh bananas, pineapple, papaya, and watermelon, three different breads for toasting, pancakes, scrambled eggs, rice and beans, sweet plantains, lunch meat and cheese, a waffle station and made to order egg station with 6 toppings for omelets, OJ and Mango / Banana juice, and coffee to pick from? There were also two breakfast breads each day that varied and one or two different Costa Rican hot items each day that included small sausages, chicken or sausages in a creamy tomato sauce, and several types of what they called "hash"…potato based one time and green bean based another. To top it off, the restaurant has a great view of Arenal and the pool / mineral springs area and an attentive and cheerful staff. They even attached their old bananas to a nearby tree each morning to attract birds! The pool was clean and the mineral springs area very relaxing. They just added a second hot springs and bar. The grounds are filled with beautiful plants and fruit trees with a running / walking nature trail that they are just getting going. It was a bit confusing but we loved it…especially watching the intricate world of leaf cutting ants! Bottom line...you will love this place!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: If you like birds and want to see some neat ones, take an early morning walk or near sunset. We got to see motmot, a guan, and a few others that we hadn't seen. Also, at breakfast, bring your camera because they put bananas on sticks near the restaurant and red legged honeycreeper and a few other rarely seen in the wild birds come to eat. The hot springs are very nice with the different temperatures for the different pools. Get an iced fruit drink at the bar thats inside the hot-spring pool, it's VERY nice. I would suggest the mango. Enjoy.
Cons: That the complimentary beverage can only be used at the bar behind reception. Why not allow it to be used at the restaurant and the pool bar?
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The grounds were beautiful, the staff very friendly and helpful, the breakfast was delicious.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great pool, amazing staff, very clean. Good location.
Cons: Wifi was weak if some places, but not a big deal!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Cleanesss, customer service and facilities. Hot springs are amazing. Everybody is very kind and pay attention to guest needs.
Cons: Restaurant quality food was so poor at dinner. Good on breakfast but too expensive and not flavored on dinner options. We asked for two different pasta options and both were dissapointing. We expected something really good due to high prices and hotel quaility but it didn't happen. We will come back to hotel but next time, we will take the dinner outside.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location is close to restaurants (walking distance) staff is very friendly and helpful. The main entrance closes @10 pm so the only ones that have access after 10pm are the one staying there, plus they have a security guard 24/7 walking the ground. you feel safe. they have a billiard table and Foosball table just in case you want to stay in. Overall the place is beautiful, trees and plants everywhere. rooms are really clean and nice.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved this hotel. They were so kind to me and my family. The room was a great size for my family. We loved using the pool and walking around their garden. It had a great view of Arenal. Eugenia was really helpful and showed us all around the grounds of the hotel. We felt very happy about our stay at Roca Negra and would highly recommend you to stay there.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The gardens around the property are amazing, and you have an unobstructed view of the volcano! The rooms are super clean which was great.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A lovely place - the perfect hideaway from the hustle and bustle of Fortuna yet within walking distance too. The staff have been incredibly helpful and we loved the fresh eggs! Couldn’t recommend more for a peaceful base to explore the area.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: nice surroundings, well kept garden with lots of birds and flowers
Cons: at times a bit noisy - close to the main road to Arenal Volcano
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The outdoor area was beautifully landscaped and patio areas perfect for lounging in the evening. The pool was a great temperature and the breakfast good value for money as well as delicious. Melissa was the perfect host and we really enjoyed our stay. Location was walkable to a few great sodas and the supermarket too and only a short drive to La Fortuna and the top sights.
Cons: Nothing, it was fabulous!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location, very nice venue with lots of nature and nice views on the volcano. Really appreciate the pool table and the jacuzzi, they are perfect after hiking for a full day. The hotel is a bit outside La Fortuna, but the neighbourhood has restaurants and shops, which is pretty handy. The room is modern and very comfortable overall.
Cons: The only flip side, we could not pay by card on the premises, only cash.

Pros: Every thing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was a great stay! We have been upgraded for free as the hotel was not fully booked during low season! It was awesome. Charismatic and modern hotel with nice staff, beautiful, clean and comfortable bungalows, tropical gardens across the whole property and a fantastic location with great view of the volcano. The staff also took care of all tour bookings for us. It definitely deserves more than 3 stars!! We had an fantastic time and would always prefer this hotel in case of coming back!
9.0 Excellent
Pros: food was excellent at the restaurant
Cons: Trouble regulating water temperature in shower.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The cabins were well equipped and very nicely decorated. Beautiful gardens and very well kept. The view of mount Arenal was extraordinary
Cons: One day there was a breakfast buffet which was fine, although cheese and vegetables would be a good addition. The next morning we were served out of a morning menu. That didn’t work out so much for us.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Super cute bungalows. Loved that the balcony faced the volcano
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Romantic location full of green and well-built private places. Outstanding breakfast with a great variety of food to choose from. Perfect room service and a delicious wood fired oven-baked pizza. The prices of the food and drinks you can buy are very fair (considering overall Costa Rica prices). Staff is extremely friendly and spaces are impeccably clean. They even have bidets in the bathrooms, by the way.
Cons: Could have had bigger TVs in the rooms, cable channel quality is not that good (but it isn't anywhere in Costa Rica) and the Wi-Fi connection is somewhat spotty, depending on where you are. No phone signal anywhere on the property except at the reception if you have Claro as a provider.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The swimming pool, the room with big showers and everthing was clean and fresh.
Cons: The services from the reception to the restaurants was great.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was amazing . Facilities , breakfast and also the staff .

Featured amenities include luggage storage, laundry facilities, and a safe deposit box at the front desk. 7.5 Good
Pros: The location of the property and the walking trails on site. This was our favourite place in CR. The evening meal was better than breakfast. Room was a good size.
Cons: The location of our room was so disappointing. We were told it was a garden room but we were right over the car park and reception. It was extremely noisy and Reception did nothing but offer an even poorer room. Be careful of the room you think you are booking on booking.com. Jacuzzi was out of use during our stay.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Located in the middle of Rain Forrest, unbelievable beautiful nature and animals at the hotel area. Like a dream!
Cons: No cooler at the room.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: - very friendly staff - lovely scenery - lots of animals around the lodge
9.4 Excellent
Pros: The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The grounds were amazing and we loved that we had access to the National Park trails. The Jacuzzi was a nice treat after a long day of hiking. The views were breath-taking! Access to other activities was relatively easy but the roads are not great. Town was about a 30 minute drive away. Nice breakfast buffet provided free of charge!
Cons: It would be nice to have screens on the front doors as well so you could have both the patio door (which had a screen) and front door open to allow a cross-breeze. The room became a bit stuffy and buggy during the day without this. Also it would be good if t pool was heated to allow swimming year round. The prices for food at the restaurant were expensive. The Happy Hour (2 for 1) would be better if they allowed for 2 different drinks vs. 2 of the same kind of drink. Finally a shuttle to town that ran even just 3 times a day would be a great perk!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved having so many hikes/walks to do right on the property and a very good restaurant as well. It was so nice having nature and animals outside our door each day. The staff was warm, welcoming, helpful and friendly. There were plenty of activities to do on the grounds for all ages: pool, foosball/game room, checkers, books, TVs in the main buildings and a hot tub.
Cons: Be aware that the Lodge is a 20-25 minute drive from La Fortuna up a somewhat rough dirt road. If you have your own vehicle it's easy to get to and from, but without a bit more challenging. There are taxis that cost $30 each way or a shuttle 3x/day from the lodge.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The birds were amazing. The staff were very helpful.
Cons: The unit I was in required a shuttle.
7.5 Good
Pros: Location was amazing! Like in the Jurasic Park
Cons: Food in restaurant is not that good for that prize... Breakfast 6/10
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful trails and extremely helpful staff
Cons: No vegan menu options
8.8 Excellent
Pros: - Great Location: You can‘t be closer to the volcano than at this place - Nice Trails to walk and the free Morning Walk was nice, too - nice and friendly staff - very good breakfast with lots of homemade specialities
Cons: - The whole complex would need some renovation, everything is a bit old and not very modern - the food in the restaurant in the evening was not good. Many convenient products and not very tasty
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had a lovely comfortable stay, all the staff were friendly and helpful. A really amazing lodge with the best view of the Arenal volcano, so much biodiversity to see just within this property alone. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: As our first stop on an extended trip to CR this was a wonderful introduction to a wide selection of birds, butterflies, vegetation (and frogs at night) with a range of easy trails on site, great views over the forests, volcano and lake from the Nest tower and restaurant observation deck. We did all self guided walks and found it very easy and well posted with plenty to see. Staff were attentive, rooms cleaned spotlessly daily and the Buffett breakfast had a reasonable selection of fresh fruit and stodgier carbs and meats.
Cons: The car drive from San Jose was an adventure- prepare for slow and the final section to be potholed and a bone shaker. We’re getting used to this having been in CR for a week now and this one is not bad in comparison.
9.4 Excellent
Cons: Prices or food were a bit expensive...we had a car so we drove to La Fortuna

10.0 Excellent
Pros: David and his family were great hosts. The hotel is well maintained. The rooms are clean and the pool is serviced regularly. It's a good location, about 1 mi out of the city center, but with multiple restaurants and a super market nearby. The Red Frog Coffee shop (little yellow building next door) is a great place; try the empanada. They also offer use of a communal kitchen that has the necessary cooking tools. David can also help you book taxis, tours and transfers.

Pros: Nice pool, the room was clean.
Cons: Breakfast was to little, not a big choice.

Pros: We really enjoyed our stay here, the staff were very nice, friendly and helpful, the hotel is small-scale and atmospheric, and the location is fine for tours and travel. There is a fitness area, you can use bikes to get around, and staff are always willing to help and offer ideas. Great value!
Cons: No negative comments here, all good.
9.1 Excellent
Pros: Gabby, the owner was great, very friendly and always helpful. the 2 cafes in the front were excellent and we ate there everyday. It's an easy walk to the beach and restaurants. Bank with ATM is across the street. So, all in all, very convenient and good value for the money.
Cons: there is a club on the other side of the the street that played very loud music on friday and saturday until at least 3pm. Sounded like it was in the hotel! Not good!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Good breakfast, nice clean rooms fully equipped. Very friendly and helpful staff. They organized a baby bed for us.

5.8 Okay
Cons: Too Expensive for low season. And didnt offer reasonable rates and not flexible early check out. I paid $700 for 4 days. Ridiculous
9.7 Excellent
Pros: This hotel is located perfectly, in the middle of the main attractions. We loved that basically each room was completely private, surrounded by luxurious vegetation. Everything in the room and on the property is natural, very little plastic and nothing looks cheap. The hot springs are awesome and one could relax there after a day of exploration. The property is maintained extremely well, it is spot clean, staff is extremely friendly. We got complememtary fresh fruits platter 2 days in a row. The coffee in the room is awesome. If you need something and you call front desk they will send what you need in less than 5 minutes. The restaurant is really great, fine dining in the area. Fresh food for all meals with basically everything natural. Another reviewer called this property "a hidden gen" and I completely agree. The pictures on most of the websites don't do real justice to the place.
Cons: They did not have a gym.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice stuff and amazing breakfast
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The location, overall grounds, and dining were super.
Cons: The bed was a little hard and the bathroom had no way to vent moisture so everything stayed wet for a very long time.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Value. Cleanliness.
Cons: Room is small
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Location is good, the environment and gardens are really nice.. the room itself is a bit simple and without any inspiring decoration.. the breakfast is good and the pools and the spa are great!!
Cons: The beds It is simple and without small details that can make you feel great in your vacation..
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful resort. Tranquil setting. spacious room with wonderful view of Arenal volcano. Attentive staff. Very good food.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location. Unbeatable views of Volcan Arenal. Wonderful pools and grounds. Great restaurant. Large clean air-conditioned rooms.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Service snd location. Quality of food was exceptionsl.
Cons: Pool size could have been bigger.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved the hotel! Too bad we only stayed one night because they were booked. The photos in the internet does no justice. The staff was very nice and everything was very clean. The room was large and it felt like a luxury hotel. The garden was very pretty and very well kept. The view of the volcano was beautiful. My daughter and her husband got a massage at the spa and they said the setting was beautiful in the lush gardens next to a river. The hot spring pool are drained and new water is put in in the morning. Loved everything about the hotel. Only regret is that we didn't stay there more days. We went the next day to another hotel that was more expensive and was not as nice.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Excellent landscaped gardens, friendly staff, good quality local bar food. Great breakfast offering.
Cons: Restaurant menu was quite pricey and wasn’t very representative of local cuisine
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The property is great. Rooms are big. Wifi is solid. Rooms have an A/C and minibar. They even do room service. We had the superior site that gave the view of Arenal Volcano right outside our balcony. Overall comfortable stay. Facilities such as the hot springs and pools in the resort are great too, off-season it's quite empty. The restaurant is also in the resort and the food is decent. Breakfast is alright, nothing special.
Cons: We had construction workers outside our balcony that made privacy an issue, especially given the rooms used the floor to ceiling windows. This made it a bit of a letdown. I'd recommend the hotel avoid this given we're paying good money to have these rooms with great views.

8.0 Excellent
Pros: Free shuttle within the facility
6.0 Good
Pros: The pools are beautiful and there are a variety with cool and warm water. Breakfast is included and there was a wide range of selections. The superior room was beyond spacious, had beautiful furniture and surfaces, and nice linen.
Cons: Upon entering our room, we turned on the air conditioner and it didn’t work. We immediately called the front desk and the person said they would send a technician. One never came and we wasted precious vacation time waiting when we could have been enjoying the facilities. Because the room was warm, we slept with the patio door open but sleep wasn’t sound because of the heat. Also, workers began their day at 6AM which made it impossible to sleep past then. All that was given as compensation was an apology and a free drink.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was perfect. This place was amazing! The pool bar was unreal.. bartender Danny was awesome. They had an animal barn on property and the animals were so well cared for. It was amazing! (Another Danny at the horse barn went above and beyond any expectation amazing!!). Will absolutely return for the sole purpose of this resort.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: the hot spring pools were awesome!
Cons: It would have been nice to have wifi in the rooms.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Pools and slides, plus the amazing volcano view!
Cons: Rooms were simple - could have been slightly updated. But very comfortable.
9.7 Excellent
Pros: Pools, breakfast, tours
8.2 Excellent
Pros: Nice place. Good privacy even in shared houses with private verandas. Lots of pools and other stuff to do. Great breakfast. Restaurant doesn't do takeout and pool bar, which does, was very slow, though otherwise ok. And technically they ban food from the outside. So with a small baby going to sleep early, dinner was a problem. Thankfully there are minifridges (no microwaves or coffee pots, though) and no one enforces the ban. Also water slides, while fun, are a bit dangerous - the pools are too shallow for them to be used by adults without bruising an elbow or back
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice grounds, clean and well kept.
7.9 Good
Pros: The spa facilities were lovely and ideal to enjoy with a small child. The room was large and exceptionally clean although the decor is rather dated and there wasn’t WiFi in the rooms.
Cons: On arrival you are presented with a long list of rules and penalties e.g. lose a room key card and get charged X. Not come across this before and says something about the tone of the hotel.
7.5 Good
Cons: Don't have wifi in the bedroom and chairs.
7.5 Good
Pros: the hot pools are the best. the hotel is beautifull you could see the volcano from all over
Cons: the rooms were a bit old... no air and ventilation... every thing is so expensive to buy through the hotel
8.8 Excellent
Pros: View of volcano was beautiful. The thermal springs were relaxing. We had a good time.
Cons: Some of the prices were hiked up. They made a mistake with our billing, so pay attention when checking out.

Pros: The included buffet was amazing! Excellent food; probably the best I’ve had in a long time at a hotel in Costa Rica over my travels across the Costa Rica pacific, northern and Caribbean coast! The many spa pools and even the slides were incredible!!!
Cons: Only if the hotel room had a view of the volcano, I would have scored it a 10.5 out of a 10!

9.2 Excellent
Pros: Jacuzzi, pool with great views. Excellent breakfast. Friendly staff, they arrange the kayak fent for us. Easy parquing.
Cons: Far from La Fortuna, but it is worth it. Closer if you are going to Cerro Chato or Arenal Lake.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: View from the pool area, great location
Cons: Nothing
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was great. The location and the view was perfect.
Cons: None.
7.0 Good
Pros: The location is absolutely stunning, with a view of Lake Arenal, surrounded by open forest filled with toucans, parrots, oropendulas, and other animals. Breakfast was very good. The first day is was more American--pancakes and such; the second day it was gallo pinto, traditional Costa Rican. We really enjoyed both. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was clean and the furniture in good working order.
Cons: But the room itself was not well maintained, to a disappointing level. The window locks were non-functional; the screens didn't fit right to keep out bugs; the shower faucet would not properly control the hot/cold water; the door to the room wouldn't close right; the overhead fan was off-balance and noisy. The price is low, but I would prefer that they invest a bit more in mechanical upkeep. We had 3 rooms (7 people) and all had similar issues. Other than that, be aware that the road to the hotel is steep and very bad--you must have a 4WD vehicle.
6.3 Good
Pros: The staff was very helpful and friendly and accommodating! The breakfast was nice and they were flexible with our tour timings (they made us breakfast at 530am one morning and it was so kind!). The breakfast was eggs or an omelet or pancakes on various days and coffee with delicious fresh fruit.
Cons: The road to the property was rough-you absolutely need a 4WD car and it was fairly dark and off the beaten path so you should try to arrive the first night in daylight. We understand this is the rainforest and out in nature but there were a lot of little flies and bugs in the room and that was difficult to be fully comfortable and enjoy the stay. The room was clean but the bugs were a little tough to handle. There was no AC and that was fine for our trip but in warmer temps it might bother people (they had a ceiling fan and an extra plug in fan).
8.3 Excellent
Pros: We've been upgraded and given a room with a king size bed by the pool Very good homemade breakfast, different every morning Amazing view on the laguna and the volcano Location very convenient to go to all the main attractions in the area
Cons: Lightening in the room was poor Bathroom is a bit dark (no window) and not very welcoming Our room had a door giving on the kitchen/breakfast room so was a bit noisy in the morning Complicated to access the property, need a 4x4, so you don't really want to take your car at night again to go have dinner outside. There is a restaurant at the property but sometimes it is nice as well to try something else :)
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The view from the houses is breathtaking towards Lake arenal The breakfast home made changed every day The staff was super nice friendly and welcoming
Cons: Very steep and bumpy road to get there... but rewarding views at wnd
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The amazing view (lake+volcano)and the tranquility of the place. Also the breakfast in front of the pool and the lake. Staff was very friendly and thoughtful!

Pros: The location was absolutely spectacular. I don't know that there is a better view of the volcano or lake anywhere else. The service was amazing too. Sergio offered many suggestions of things to see and do in the area.
Cons: The cabin for four was a little shabby. Needed some more blankets.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Breathtaking view, breakfast, volcano

Pros: Bungalow: Fantastic view of volcano & lake. Lots of hummingbirds in front of terrace plus other wildlife in tree canopy. Friendly host gave us lots of tips. Hot water in shower for a change! Very reasonable price (68+tax for 2 nights).
Cons: Needs an upgrade, loose fittings, gaps in timber allowed insects in, smell of wood treatment inside. Both bungalows older than other types of accommodation. No kettle & only a frying pan provided.
10.0 Excellent
Cons: Best view of Costa Rica. We saw the volcano without clouds. Price was so cheap during green season. Incredible room.

Pros: -Loved the concept : organic farm hosting people in tents, bungalows, few separate rooms and a full equiped little house (we stayed here). You can take a walk and visit the whole farm, grab fruits on trees and relax in yhe small swimmingpool surrounded by birds. - gorgeous views on the volcano - near from the park entrance - food at the restaurant is very good and not too expensive. - people are very nice.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A very nice place to stay with an amazing view to the lake and vulcano. The compound is beautiful, you can even see humming birds and monkeys. The staff is very friendly and the whole place is made with lots of love.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I had the best stay at Essence hostel. Fabian and Jairo are the kindest and most helpful people ever and they made me feel at home the moment I got there. I had quite important diet restrictions and they (and the lovely ladies in charge of the cooking) did everything they could to accommodate me and prepared great food for me :) Generally speaking the place is in a great location, calm and relaxing and with breathtaking views of the volcano. The communal bathrooms were clean and the water warm. Honestly I cannot think of anything negative to say, I am just so grateful that I found somewhere so simple and lovely but yet feels so luxurious. Thanks for the great stay, I will definitely come back when I am in the area! Abrazos
7.9 Good
Pros: The Hostel has The most Beautiful view of The Volcan Arenal. The staff is great and very warm welcoming. They gave us The best suggestions and helped us with every request. Amazing place and people!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The super friendly and available staff. The location of the hotel with a incredible view of the lagoons and the volcano.
Cons: I don't really have bad points. Maybe just no hair dryer in my room but I didn't ask for it.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The manager is really great and made the customer service spectacular. There seem to be a lot of families staying there, but there were also a good amount of solo travellers, so I made some great friends there. I stayed in the superior tent and had great views of the jungle, the nature here is not to be missed. There have holistic care facilities in addition to the spa treatments, so inquire about those if you're interested.
Cons: Shared bathrooms could be cleaned more often. Some of the animals in the region are out of control. Would have liked more menu options for breakfast and lunch
7.9 Good
Pros: The philosophy of live

Pros: Incredible views, charming guests, very well located, close to the vulcano park entrances
