Myself husband and 18 yr old daughter had an amazing stay for 4 days at the ranch... We have a whole new appreciation for going green!!! The ranch takes it to a whole new level... Carbon negative! The staff and grounds were just spectacular!!! So friendly.. Knowledge... Very special place.. Just loved the entire experience.... There is much to do in the area and the ranch will assist in making arrangements for all your excursions... Hands down one of our favorite adventures
The hot springs make it worth the price. We stayed for one night, but enjoyed two days on the hot springs and pools. We absolutely loved it and recommend it. Do not expect great food. Both breakfast and dinner were highly overpriced for the quality. Dinner was so disappointing, we spent about $100 for two entrees, one appetizer and two beers, but the ribeye was could barely edible, and the special nothing to brag about. They also offer a buffet by the pool for $39/person, which we didn't try. Breakfast for $25/person was also a rip off considering I only enjoyed the fruits and yogurt. The rest of the buffet was not great, so I barely touched it. They need to invest in better food in my opinion...
Staff, room and Thermals are amazing. Area for guests only is very romantic and peaceful. Thermal waters in area for guests only was not as hot as described by staff. Due to rain, all bungalows were dirty and wet. Staff could have been more on the ball on that. Perhaps covering them with plastic sheets so they wouldn't get so wet.
Rooms, facilities Price of breakfast
The surroundings were beautiful with the volcano as the backdrop. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Shuttle service to spa and springs was very timely.
Ultra luxury accommodations if u choose the Rainforest room. What makes this place extra special is the Shangri-La, the exclusive hotel guests only portion of the thermal spa. Can't wait to go there again!
It's a magical place that never disappoints.Very family friendly yet very romantic, too....They have also made improvements and updates to the Spa. The only negative thing is you are totally watered logged after 48 hours there. We only stay 2-3 days max. Then head to the Pacific coast.
Had a wonderful stay. Great location to explore the rain forest of Costa Rica. Had a wonderful room with beautiful views. Fabulous bathroom with huge Jacuzzi tub and separate shower. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Great to come back to the resort after hiking, zip-lining and ATV-ing and relax at the hot springs. Will definitely return. Breakfast was very expensive. Buffet was $25++. The bill was $125.00 for our family of 4. We shopped in town and had breakfast in the room. Was still enjoyable. There was a fridge, coffee. Would be nice to have options for breakfast.
The thermal pools The cleanliness was horrible. Dingy and smell of mold. The facility needs an update badly
Everything was Amazing A less formal eating option and less expensive breakfast.
Everything was perfect. Best service and facilities! Amazing! The breakfast is expensive
Great pool, amazing staff, very clean. Good location. Wifi was weak if some places, but not a big deal!
I cannot say enough about our stay at the Volcano Lodge and Springs. We booked it because the rainy season rates were hard to pass up and because 95% of previous guests rated it Excellent. The room rates were so low that I wondered if the ratings could be true...but I have never had more good things to share about a hotel experience! We stayed in a superior room with an amazing view of Arenal from our porch. The property is designed so that the view from your patio makes you feel like you are at a private villa. All we saw before us was Arenal and lush vegetation. There were people next to us but we never saw or heard them. You couldn't even see where the cars were parked. It was almost total solitude. The room was attractive and clean. The beds were comfortable. The shower was always warm. Our room was only a short walk from the main pool and mineral springs which was a pleasant surprise. Others will have to walk further but the grounds are so nice that the walk is like a stroll in a garden. I read some reviews that the breakfast was adequate but nothing special. I have no idea what they were talking about! To me it was a wonderful daily brunch. We stayed 4 nights and looked forward to each morning. Most food items stayed the same but how can you complain about having fresh bananas, pineapple, papaya, and watermelon, three different breads for toasting, pancakes, scrambled eggs, rice and beans, sweet plantains, lunch meat and cheese, a waffle station and made to order egg station with 6 toppings for omelets, OJ and Mango / Banana juice, and coffee to pick from? There were also two breakfast breads each day that varied and one or two different Costa Rican hot items each day that included small sausages, chicken or sausages in a creamy tomato sauce, and several types of what they called "hash"…potato based one time and green bean based another. To top it off, the restaurant has a great view of Arenal and the pool / mineral springs area and an attentive and cheerful staff. They even attached their old bananas to a nearby tree each morning to attract birds! The pool was clean and the mineral springs area very relaxing. They just added a second hot springs and bar. The grounds are filled with beautiful plants and fruit trees with a running / walking nature trail that they are just getting going. It was a bit confusing but we loved it…especially watching the intricate world of leaf cutting ants! Bottom line...you will love this place!
The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The grounds were amazing and we loved that we had access to the National Park trails. The Jacuzzi was a nice treat after a long day of hiking. The views were breath-taking! Access to other activities was relatively easy but the roads are not great. Town was about a 30 minute drive away. Nice breakfast buffet provided free of charge! It would be nice to have screens on the front doors as well so you could have both the patio door (which had a screen) and front door open to allow a cross-breeze. The room became a bit stuffy and buggy during the day without this. Also it would be good if t pool was heated to allow swimming year round. The prices for food at the restaurant were expensive. The Happy Hour (2 for 1) would be better if they allowed for 2 different drinks vs. 2 of the same kind of drink. Finally a shuttle to town that ran even just 3 times a day would be a great perk!
Prices or food were a bit expensive...we had a car so we drove to La Fortuna
Location, views and surroundings were fabulous. Staff were ultra helpful. It would have been helpful to have a small desk and chair in the room for using computer. Morning nature walk was a bit disappointing, as guide only occasionally stopped to point something out. Food was only fair.
We loved having so many hikes/walks to do right on the property and a very good restaurant as well. It was so nice having nature and animals outside our door each day. The staff was warm, welcoming, helpful and friendly. There were plenty of activities to do on the grounds for all ages: pool, foosball/game room, checkers, books, TVs in the main buildings and a hot tub. Be aware that the Lodge is a 20-25 minute drive from La Fortuna up a somewhat rough dirt road. If you have your own vehicle it's easy to get to and from, but without a bit more challenging. There are taxis that cost $30 each way or a shuttle 3x/day from the lodge.
My mother using a walker was able to go everywhere on the property. The staff was wonderful and accommodating.
Resort overall was nicely, staff helpful and courteous at front and helping to rooms. Room service was fast Pools a little too hot, kids didn't like bartenders serves. I also thought it was a little slow.
The room was reasonably priced after the off-season discount of 30%. The property is well-designed, and the thermal pools are nice. Tour desk staff was very friendly and helpful. The restaurants are over-priced. WiFi only in the common areas. Can be noisy if somebody is staying in the adjoining room.
Value. Cleanliness. Room is small
Great location. Unbeatable views of Volcan Arenal. Wonderful pools and grounds. Great restaurant. Large clean air-conditioned rooms.
We loved the hotel! Too bad we only stayed one night because they were booked. The photos in the internet does no justice. The staff was very nice and everything was very clean. The room was large and it felt like a luxury hotel. The garden was very pretty and very well kept. The view of the volcano was beautiful. My daughter and her husband got a massage at the spa and they said the setting was beautiful in the lush gardens next to a river. The hot spring pool are drained and new water is put in in the morning. Loved everything about the hotel. Only regret is that we didn't stay there more days. We went the next day to another hotel that was more expensive and was not as nice.
Very nice free breakfasts and a well stocked kitchen if you want to cook. Friendly staff with reasonable excursion prices. Enjoyed zip lining and horseback riding. Cloud forest nature with guide was disappointing. Saw very few animals. Very comfortable lounge and restaurant. Free but spotty wifi unless in lounge. Tiny rooms with only one nightstand and no drawers, closets and few places to hang stuff. Basically your stuff will be on the bed or floor. Shower was weak and again no shelves. There is one five person room under the lounge. It is noisy so try to avoid it.
The location the rooms the pool and the restaurants were all amazing The staff was friendly and courteous. The staff was friendly and courteous. We got excellent customer service from John Carlo, Alan and Ana. it was amazing! Alex and the front desk
The location is without a doubt beautiful- however you can tell the resort needs some updating. Simple things like softer lighting, modern decorations, and new furniture in common areas would truly make this place a five star hotel. That aside, the pool/bar area is beautiful, and worth spending the time at. The rooms are huge, with amazing shower/waterfall built in. Private balconies give a sense of exlcusiveness and general feeling of getting away. Only bar/snack area onsite didn't open until 6pm. The main restaurant food was not very good, which is unfortunate because it's where the free breakfast came from. We needed staff to come turn the private room jacuzzi on and off (which they did right away, so that's a perk), and again, just a general outdated feel in the main areas.
David and his family were great hosts. The hotel is well maintained. The rooms are clean and the pool is serviced regularly. It's a good location, about 1 mi out of the city center, but with multiple restaurants and a super market nearby. The Red Frog Coffee shop (little yellow building next door) is a great place; try the empanada. They also offer use of a communal kitchen that has the necessary cooking tools. David can also help you book taxis, tours and transfers.
Gabby, the owner was great, very friendly and always helpful. the 2 cafes in the front were excellent and we ate there everyday. It's an easy walk to the beach and restaurants. Bank with ATM is across the street. So, all in all, very convenient and good value for the money. there is a club on the other side of the the street that played very loud music on friday and saturday until at least 3pm. Sounded like it was in the hotel! Not good!
Free shuttle within the facility
The hotel property was tropically lush, well maintained and beautiful. They had a butterfly enclosure, a rare red frog enclosure, water, crocodiles and nice paved walkways. Wonderful view of the Arenol volcano. Our room was very large with a big closet and bath. It also had a front and back door with beautiful views for morning coffee. Breakfast buffet was good with a big variety of items and nice patio to enjoy the beautiful scenery. The beds were extremely hard, I had to lay out all my pillows and sleep on them.
Pools, breakfast, tours
View of volcano was beautiful. The thermal springs were relaxing. We had a good time. Some of the prices were hiked up. They made a mistake with our billing, so pay attention when checking out.
Nice place. Good privacy even in shared houses with private verandas. Lots of pools and other stuff to do. Great breakfast. Restaurant doesn't do takeout and pool bar, which does, was very slow, though otherwise ok. And technically they ban food from the outside. So with a small baby going to sleep early, dinner was a problem. Thankfully there are minifridges (no microwaves or coffee pots, though) and no one enforces the ban. Also water slides, while fun, are a bit dangerous - the pools are too shallow for them to be used by adults without bruising an elbow or back
Great views of the valley and the mountains We could see and hear several different varieties of birds sitting in our balcony Decent breakfast in the morning Helpful staff $50/night for kids. Most hotels don't have extra charge for kids, the one's that have are $10-$25.. $50 is a bit too much, especially with no information upfront Registration Staff was very helpful, but did not have a lot of information outside of Monteverde. Ordering anything to the room would take a long time to get. Concierge/Travel Desk was under-staffed. One of the person at the desk was rude and not eager to help. Other person was very helpful.
The view is amazing, room was beautiful with vaulted ceilings; the view from anywhere on the property is amazing; staff was friendly, food was good- no complaints- the resort is on a steep hillside, it's really not an issue ( 40 second drive from the bottom or 3-5 min slow walk to our room 3/4 of the way up the property) -shower is like niagra falls and as hot as you can stand- my wife had no complaints and that is amazing - two thumbs up from Santa barbara ca. The Grass was too green, too many rainbows in the distance , sky was too blue, Saw too much ocean From our deck/ lanai :) Our girls had too much fun ( 4 and 7 ) - the room was too big Don't hesitate, go. I've stayed in some pretty nice places and this one won't disappoint, despite a few reviews I read before going ( I'm still spoiled living in Santa barbara ca and have some reasonable expectations, my wife on the other hand sets the bar very high and had no complaints which was shocking- even she was shocked when she said it )
Problem with handicap parking from check in. Could not get to room for more than half hour due to tour bus blocking lot. Reception said they checked in before you. Nearly every time we tried to come or go a bus was in the way.
The hotel is beautiful! The view is amazing especially from the upper buildings where you can see all the way over the mountains to the the gulf and to guanacoste in the distance. The rooms were very nice and very comfortable beds and very clean. They have their own hiking trails at the top and it was wonderful to hike at our leisure through the cloud forest. They have their own zip line but we did not try it, but it seemed a nice quiet option compared to others. We saw lots of wildlife right there at the lobby and the dinner at the restraint was amazing! We talked about it the rest of our trip! And service in the restaraunt combined with the atmosphere definitely makes it a fine dining experience. The hotel is also a nice distance from town. The amenities are very nice. We would consider staying here again. The only negatives to this hotel were actually minor ones that would have just made it a more perfect experience overall. The fact that it is in such a large area they use shuttles to take you from one location to another. It is extremely steep and long to walk/hike especially to upper buildings with the beautiful view, so the shuttle is almost mandatory unless you are in excellent shape. They are more than happy to shuttle and most times are timely except there were a couple of times that we needed to wait up to 15 minutes for the shuttle. Otherwise the shuttle service was very good. The breakfast buffet was very nice but the view from the big beautiful window is the staff parking lot and bushes. It was a shame it didn't have a view, but I suppose you can't always have the exceptional view. The family pool/workout area was very nice and under an open canopy. The pool was a somewhat comfortable temperature but it was very cold with the night mountain air blowing in and there was no hot tub which could have made it a nicer experience.
The grounds are beautiful. Awesome views. Good jungle trails. You can even zip-line on the premises. Rooms are large, well furnished and clean.
We had my Sons' wedding here and loved the setting and the pool area. Loved the wildlife that would come thru and hang around for a while. LOVED standing in the Infinity Pool and watching the sunset over the horizon. Pure beauty!!!! Wi-Fi was very poor in the rooms. Also the construction work noise in the early mornings was too noisy for a restful and peaceful vacation. We lost a pair of prescription sunglasses and asked all around if they had been found: manager told us that they had been found a returned to the owner. FALSE!!!! We found them ourselves and they were not found by staff or returned by them. Do not lying staff.
