Cons: Nothing. It is great value for money

10.0 Excellent
Pros: This family business provides 100% quality customer service. They are invested in their clients enjoyment. They greet you with a smile, they provide great suggestions for tours in the area. Food at the restaurant is just scrumptious. We ended up staying an extra night. Location is great, has access to the beach, 15 minute walk to the town where you can get snacks, coffee, ice cream, first necesity items. I will definitely come back!
Cons: Honest to goodness can’t think of anything that I disliked.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Close to the beach and Drake. Place was simple but very clean. Good home-made food and personnel sympathetic.
Cons: A bit expensive for what it. Some lighting missing on the path from the room to the restaurant.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We were the only guests and had the entire attention of the family running the place. They were delightful! Helping us with everything and booking everything for us! Sitting in the restaurant you look down a river onto the ocean towards the mountains on the other side of the bay. Awesome! Really great service!
Cons: We had a half-night blackout, which is normal for Costa Rica when it rains heavily, but the windows had no mosquito nets. Since the AC is out, we had to open the windows to mosquitos.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Staff very attentive, big and comfortable room. Good breakfast with several options
Cons: WiFi did not work in the room, only at the restaurant/reception
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Their restaurant is very near to the beach with a beautiful view. We were picked up after the boat ride from Sierpe and driven to the hotel. The included breakfast was very very good , excellent coffee and traditional breakfast ! The room we stayed in was all new, nicely decorated with a:c and cable . I would stay here again.
Cons: We liked everything !

Pros: The family that owns the hostel is really great! The owner booked a tour to corcovado immediately for us which was of good quality and the sons were really nice as well! We even forgot something and had to return by car and the son drove towards us for about 20 minutes!!
10.0 Excellent

He does everything to make our stay unforgettable and amazing. We had the rooms on the hill and the view is amazing. A bicycle rental service is available near by the holiday home, while hiking can be enjoyed nearby. Drake Bay Airport is 6 km from the property.

Pros: Clean simple rooms with a nice shower & AC. Hammocks to chill out in the front of the property. A 10 minute walk up the hill from Drake Bay. Right across the road from the supermarket & next door to the restaurant. Staff were great & helped us to book a tour to Corcovado
6.3 Good
Pros: The staff was really friendly and helped us with activities from the very first minute we arrived. While we were unpacking they arranged the diving for next day for us.
Cons: The walls are very thin so you could hear every street noise and the talking in the restaurant next door. There are no windows in the rooms.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great staff; very nice the common area for free coffee or tea anytime; the room was really comfortable with a.c. and private toilet
Cons: Nothing ;)
2.5 Mediocre
Cons: Cockroaches infested. We had to throw away clothes because of tiny cockroaches invasion. Cockroaches do not die in washing machine. Scheme together with pacheco tours. Book tours with Picolina tours.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Alvaro was ready to pick me up when I arrived on the boat which made for an easy check in. The bed was comfortable, the AC worked great, and there was even a fan to dry my damp clothes (necessary in Costa Rica). I booked my Cano Island and Corcovado tours with the hostel and both were good. The location is great but really all of the places have a great location.
Cons: The diving company I went with wasn’t the best. They had 9 divers to one DM. The actual stay - nothing.
6.3 Good
Pros: The room is big and clean.
Cons: When we arrived in the boat from Sierpe everyone was being picked up by their hosts but no one went to pick us up. We read in comments from other travellers that in their case, they were picked up by Alvaro from Casa Tuanis. The path to the house is a slope and if you are lucky, the path will be dry. In our case, the boat left us at midday, the sun was heating, the luggage was heavy and the path was wet. When we asked the host the reason why no one came for us, the answer was "Take a taxi, they bring you here for 4$". The money itself is not an issue, but we didn't feel welcomed at all. We gave it another chance asking him if he could help us out when we were going to check out. He told us that he could arrange a taxi for us. In the end, we managed it ourselves. Speaking with other travellers from different hotels and hostels, they were all picked up at arrival and brought at departure. As I explained, the path is difficult, so be aware of this when selecting this accomodation. Also I did not like the fact of being several people at nights smoking marihuana in the entrance of the hostel.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: What a great place to stay! The staff were very friendly and helpful, from picking us up when we got off the boat, giving us advice and booking tours for us. One of the staff even helped us book a flight to San Jose as he knew it was the same price as getting boats and buses but alot quicker. Room was immaculate and even smelt clean throughout the stay. A/C worked fine and wifi was good. Great location with two restaurants and a supermarket pretty much at your front door, and not far to the beach and drake bay trail.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful, clean and comfortable place. Alvaro is very kind and always helpful.
Cons: Nothing wrong.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: I had a great time in Drake bay. Middle of the small centre of Drake bay. Clean rooms, nice patio to sit and chill. I bootjes my tours at the hotel. Albero and Jamaica are super nice.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: What a special place! The owners care so much about the property, cleanliness, and meals and it really shows. They helped us arrange a tour of Corcovado that was unforgettable! A truly unmatched experience for us.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: If you're looking for a place to relax and stay away from the routine, noise ans people, that's your place! I loved being in the middle of nowhere, having breakfast and other meals in front of an amazing garden where you can also see a lot of wildlife. It's a very quiet place so you really have the chance to enjoy and listen to the voice of nature. And if you're so lucky as I was, you can even have breakfast with a parrot in front of you! It's a family-run hotel, very nice lodges preserving the rustic style. The family is just awesome and very helpful. You can see that they really love what they do. There are nice beaches only a few minutes walk from the property and you can also walk to Drake village, which is about 45 minutes away. The hotel was very clean and the room big enough to enjoy the stay. Wi-Fi works pretty well at the property. Breakfast and the other meals were delicious. Can't complain about a thing. I can only recommend this place.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: It is really remote in the Dschungel and you are not Tourist number in a Hotel complex but kind of a member of the host family and the small village. Lisbeth & Isaac take so warmly care of us, we felt so welcomed and looked after from the very beginning. The food was the best we had in Costa Rica, all traditionally self made and they fulfill you every extra wish. You feel like heaven. You can watch many birds in the garden, toucans, Aras etc. You can also play soccer every afternoon with the locals who play an excellent ball, really an experience! Or you hike along the coast line through the jungle or you simply jump in the water on the sandy house beach. Simply spent there 3-4 nights or longer, it’s worth every second!!! Thanks again Lisbeth, Vanessa and Isaac. Pics come later directly to your email inbox. Diana&Jörn
Cons: Only Cash, really only cash!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Abundant nature, good food and great hospitality at affordable price!!
Cons: It is a heaven on the earth, to reach heaven you will have to take some trouble !! To reach there you have to climb up a bit !! Once you are there you feel like you are in paradise! Cabin is spacious, most comfortable with an excellent view of nature, just by sitting in porch you could watch many birds of paradise like Tucans, Macau, parrots etc. Real paradise for birders. It is like a family business, husband and wife they run it very efficiently though they are lagging in speaking in English !! Food is gorgeous and plenty, really enjoyed very much. For couples it is real paradise.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Family hosts, food, location = Pure paradise I felt so welcomed by the hosts, a wonderful, truly warm-hearted Tico family from the area. They truly ensure that you are comfortable every chance they get. They even let me use their family kitchen to prepare some snacks. As a lone traveler, it was nice to get great conversation from the family who is very knowledgeable of the area and are open-arms in every aspect of hospitality. The hosts pointed out sloths, howler monkeys and flora - amazing place to stay if you truly want to be in a remote setting of undisturbed bliss. There’s a wonderful hike along the coast where there’s stunning barren beaches, highly recommended. This was definitely one of the main highlights of all of Costa Rica - best experience ever.. I will for sure be back again. Tengo mucha suerte de tener esta experiencia. Ya he recomendado este lugar a mis amigos y familias. Muchas gracias por la increíble estancia! :) :)
Cons: Nada!
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: Nice people..
Cons: Long walking (500 m) ... claiming in a maddy trail. No trail to the bungalow caused me to sleep (in a rainy evening) and brack my leg! Over all not recommended..
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I loved everything about this place! The food is amazing, the owner and his family are LOVELY, the location is perfect for a true getaway and my room was perfect! One of the best places I have stayed IN THE WORLD (and there have been many). You will not regret booking this place.
Cons: Having to leave was the worst thing.

Pros: Very friendly host The included meals were very delicious, great vegetarian options Nice place to relax, little hike to the beach

8.3 Excellent
Pros: great food.. great beach access nice people.. kayaks wildlife nature a beautiful lagoon
Cons: they have 3 very bad rooms tiny dark and noisy and we got one for first night.. then they changed us to a much nicer brighter larger ocean front room.. it was like night and day.. make sure you get one of the ocean front cabins.... this place is expensive compared to some other good places in Drake Bay
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Good location with easy access to the beach. The food was terrific! It was the best food we had in all of the places we visited in Costa Rica!! The staff were kind and extremely helpful. They helped us arrange taxis to and from palmar sur and were helpful when our original flight was canceled. The air conditioner was excellent! And the bed was comfortable.
5.0 Okay
Pros: To be fair - the hotel staff itself was mostly very frienldy, helpful and nice, good first impression - unfortunately I had to deal with an arrogant hotel manager who believed she had to patronize parents and their children (!) Absolutely misleading info respectively too late provided info about various snorkling trip rules. You cannot put 14 people on a boat for snorkling and then (because the group has been made by the hotel is so big) expect them to snorkle and stay very closely as a group under the "dictate" and "domination" of an incompetent person in the water. This is a "nonsense experience in paradise" and this is not why one does travel to this area. Therefore - terrible stay for me personally but for elderly people the hotel might be ok - I do respect elderly people. The hotel is rather nothing for "younger guests", especially not for guests who travel with children. Parents do not need hotel managers to patronize them. I am a parent by myself and do take safety and responsible behavior also during sport activities like swimming extremely seriously - no compromise on safety - we had private life jackets and other private safety equipment with us - better equipment than what the hotel offered but we were not allowed to use our own equipment the way we wanted to use it ! The hotel is nothing for more dynamic and sport oriented guests. Trips to Cano Island - do organize individually or simply go to Madagascar, Seychelles or other spots.
Cons: Misleading respectively too late provided info on "rules which do apply" during activities like snorkling. Arrogant hotel manager on site - unwilling / unable to listen to customer / guest feedback. Kitchen: average for a spot like Drake, poor if higher standards and expectations would apply. Boring atmosphere in the hotel - it is not a "pirate cove".
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Private boat from the lodge back to Sierpe. Nice pool and very close to the beach.
6.3 Good
Pros: Beautiful remote location
Cons: Bar area for after dinner drinks would be nice. Insufficient loungers and parasols around pool area. No choice for evening meal.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very nice atmosphere, friendly staff, lovely location. We really enjoyed it.

Pros: Looked after well by hosts. View from the restaurant was exceptional.
Cons: Limited WiFi. Electrical wiring needs attention, especially in the shower.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We absolutely loved our stay here. The service felt more 5* than many 5* properties I’ve stayed in. It’s in such a beautiful location and the view from our bungalow was just spectacular. We booked all of our tours and onward travel through casa horizantes in advance and found this to be cheaper than anywhere else online. It’s well worth staying in Drake Bay for the diving and hiking - and this is the place to stay at.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great view from the main rooftop, amazing breakfast and family owned bed and breakfast- just lovely
7.5 Good
Pros: Great view of the bay from the house balcony. Nice breakfast. Very friendly staff helped carry our bags up and down the hill.
Cons: Pretty basic tin roofed cabin with no view. Quite a difficult slippery climb up hill to our cabin and then another 100+ steps up to the house. Overpriced (as all accommodation in Drake Bay seems to be).
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Amazing place with FANTASTIC staff. Yami and Pedro made you feel at home. They were helpful and always so sweet to talk to. The facility is beautiful and so clean too.

7.1 Good
Pros: They provided a nice service in pick us and left us at the boat. The place was relax and we could enjoyed the hammek bed. Breakfast was good and staff was helpful.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Good place
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great location in the jungle a bit outside of town. Randall is a very nice host and helps you with everything.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: I had been traveling Costa Rica coast line and wanted a place I liked to stop and just chill with the jungle, animals, a few people, and locals to guide me about. I found that in Drakes Bay. It was exactly what I wanted, peace and nature.
Cons: The shared walls are way thin. If you have a conversation, the neighbors can talk with you without opening a door. Not cool.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The owner is very helpful and nice , the room are clean but simple

7.9 Good (38 reviews)

8.3 Excellent
Pros: The host family are very nice people They did great job on breakfast every day.....Loved the fresh fruit and the rest of breakfast.....
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The host was very nice, and even though there was a big language barrier they arranged our tour into Corcovado and our boat back to Sierpe for us, asking nothing in return. They even made sure to serve us extra early breakfast in both cases. Recommended stay for sure. They responded to our questions through the booking.com app very quickly.
Cons: The rooms got extremely hot during the day, luckily by opening the window we got it cooler for sleeping.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved the attention of Herminia and Ariel. The place is was comfortable and clean, good breakfast.
Cons: I will only recommend bringing a mosquito net.
6.7 Good
Pros: Very close to the main center, owners very patient and helpful even for gringos with horrible language barrier ;)
Cons: Wifi signal poor, but still ok if you lean in the door. No visa payment. Dark room with simple interior
7.5 Good
Pros: The breakfast was decent; pineapple, watermelon and a pancake.
Cons: The host woke us up 5:30 to tell us that breakfast was served, which he just could have done the day before. He couldn’t speak english.
7.9 Good
Pros: Doña Erminia was a wonderful host. This felt like more than your average guest house, we felt very well looked after and the entire family were always incredibly helpful and friendly. The accommodation is simple but well located and the breakfast is great.
Cons: The room we originally booked was much smaller than expected so we upgraded to a bigger room with an en suite for a relatively small difference.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: - really nice breakfast - location is 5-minutes walking distance to the beach at drake bay and all the restaurants and shops - the owners were really hopeful in planning our tours and also brought to the meeting points for the tours - cleaned the room and changed the sheats and towels daily - nice atmosphere - big rooms - we had an own fridge in our room
Cons: - wifi just works in front of the rooms - the owners aren’t trained in English speaking, but it still worked pretty well - kitchen is kind of small, but there are cheap and very good restaurants around, so it didn’t bother us
7.5 Good
Pros: Close to beach and right in town. AC worked :)
Cons: A little noisy at night.

Pros: Really great place to stay ! Very close to the Airport, hostel provide very good breakfast, and interesting activities. Room very comfortable and clean. The staff was really really helpful. Thank you for everything !
7.9 Good
Pros: Marvin & Vivienne are the best part of this hostel! They are really helpful and lovely people.
Cons: The location wasn’t great or near food. The taxi rides to where there is food are $5 /person each way .
7.9 Good
Pros: Welcoming staff at the hostel !
10.0 Excellent
Pros: There is a really nice new bar and the surf beach is an amazing spot.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Elsa and Thomas are excellent hosts. They will arrange tours and go above and beyond to make your stay as easy and adventurous as possible. I highly recommend it!
4.6 Okay
Pros: The staff was really nice, they made our stay a lot better :) They are here temporarily though. The showers were nice.
Cons: The place was not finished. We had to sit in the dust from the construction workers and all day long there was noise. The hostel doesn't look anything like the pictures: no hammocks, no nice kitchen (they do have one but it is really, really basic), no bar. Water leakage in our dorm. The pictures are from the previous owner we think, they should update them. It is not fair to charge 10 dollars for a dorm bed without mentioning the constructions and without updated pictures. They where supposed to pick us up but they did not show up because they couldn't cross the river due to the rain. They did send us an email so we could go to their other hostel, but they send it after all the boats had already left. So we took a special taxi to the hostal which cost us 15 dollars. Although we should have been picked up by them they where not willing to compensate us for any of the money we had to spend on the taxi.
5.8 Okay
Pros: the effort that Elsa is doing for making your stay as good as possible. There are bikes you can use for free.
Cons: Its a long way to drake bay. so if you want to do a tour you pay about 30 us dollars extra for the tour because of the taxi. For this money you will probably find a central a nice location in drakes bay. In my opinion there are small things that are missing. In the kitchen something to put the washed plates etc for drying. Our matress was bad and probably very old.
6.3 Good
Pros: The couple (Thomas and Elsa) who run the hostel at the moment are the best! They made us feel like home. They do everything to make your stay as pleasant as possible. They were willing to make us breakfast, lunch or dinner at any time. Also at 0500 in the morning. The food we had was great. After we did the Corcovado tour they made us delicious, finger linkin’ good home made burgers (with homemade bread)! We ate together and we had a very nice evening together. There are two beautiful and quiet beaches near the hostel (a 40-minute walk). Thomas and Elsa arranged a nice hike to a waterfall for us for a discounted price of 15$ to make it affordable for us.
Cons: When we arrived at the hostel we felt betrayed. The photos you see on booking.com are not all photos of the hostel in the current state. For example there are NO hammocks at the hostel. Also the hostel is not in Drake Bay, but 6 kilometers away from the ‘city centre’. To go to Drake Bay you have to cross a big river (you don’t want to do this with your own rental car). Prices for a taxi to go there are 20 dollars. On booking they say the hostel has a bar. When we arrived at the hostel they were still building one (this caused excessive noice). It was not finished when we departed. The prices for food and drinks at the hostel are too high. 3600C for a smoothie is crazy.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: The location is really nice, you are right in the middle of the jungle but still just a few minutes away from the beach or some waterfalls or rivers. They also have a really nice pool if you just don't feel like going to the beach. The rooms are clean and nice, as well as the bathrooms. The restaurant is also pretty chilled and also includes a bar (even though they just opened so don't expect too much but they will definitely do their best to make you happy and offer you nice meals and drinks for fair prices). The manager of the hotel, Jason, is the nicest host that we've met so far and does everything to make your stay awesome - he even gave us a free tour to some waterfalls. The atmosphere is very nice and relaxing and I would definitely come back here.
Cons: You should keep in mind that you definitely need a 4x4 car to get there and to drive around the area.

7.5 Good
Pros: Very clean, nice bathroom. The room was cleaned every day. The mattress was really good. Nice few into palms and forest from the balcony. Restaurants and supermarket very close.
Cons: THIS IS NOT A HOSTEL ANY MORE!!! They have only two private rooms with private bathroom but no dorm and NO KITCHEN at all so that you have to go out for all meals or even a coffee. To the beach it is at least 500-600 m (not only 200 m as they say). There is only one hammock for two rooms. A shelf or some hooks in the room would have been nice.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Nice location close to stores, restaurants and the beach, the dorm room was roomy.
Cons: The reception is open only from midday to 7pm so there is a chance that the staff will not be there when you need them. Neighbors were kinda loud in the morning and night, which on the other hand won't matter if you do early tours.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Loved the clean room, nice beds, beautiful porch and location close to everything! Staff were superfriendly and helped us with everything we needed.
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: NADA
Cons: The owner's family lives just below and have totally no respect for those who come to stay at this hotel, very very noisy we asked for silence several times to be able to rest but impossible to sleep until 1am! After their party they were also allowed to host their friends who had a very young child and a baby in the dormitory in front of our and it continue with noise and disrespect for others ! the baby cried a lot of course it's not his fault but what are so young children doing in a backpackers hostel ?? The parents and the others adults did not let us sleep and then wake up at 6am also by their screams and total disrespect for others! they scream, speak loudly and respect nothing, they come to use the bathrooms of the hotel and leave them in a deplorable state! The kitchen is dark and creepy, the front desk is never available and the bedding is awful. We had to shorten our stay and ask for a refund! I strongly don't recommend this hotel! The Internet does not work, the dormitory light flashes all night and there are termites in the room ! The only good thing is the girl who work at the reception who of course has nothing to do with it and who agreed to pay us back and listened! We shortened our stay in Bahia Drake mainly because of the owner's family ! We have traveled all over Costa Rica and we are not very demanding but that is unacceptable!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great location from the beach, restaurants and shops
5.0 Okay
Pros: I had the doorm for myself and friendly stuff
Cons: Humid walls and bats flying into the room all Night Long
7.1 Good
Pros: Friendly staff and laid back atmosphere. Close to a good restaurant and a short walk from the beach. The bathroom and (4 bed) dorm is very basic and it's a little noisy in the mornings from traffic and just in general from people up and about. If you're after cheap and no thrills, of recommend it.
