Most of the staff was friendly. Housekeeping was super-friendly and terrific. I feel badly that we forgot to tip them. Free breakfast was judicious but still made it a pretty good value. STAFF: Was abruptly told upon arrival that since I had made the reservation online, they could do nothing about giving a military discount. Staff is incapable of chatting on the phone and giving change for the vending machine at the same time. ROOM: The first night, they had us on the lower level, the 100-level rooms. It smelled so badly of mildew that we thought we would be sick. Even the a/c smelled awful. I can't believe it is not a health hazard. They agreed to move us to an upper-level room, even acknowledging the lower level smelled bad. BREAKFAST: Well, it was free. But if you get there 10 minutes before it closes up, you may find yourself with nothing but a muffin. A bunch of people came in close to closing time and they refused to put out any more food.
Some of the staff were pleasant, and the room was cleaned well for the first few nights. Some of the staff was a bit rude and less than accommodating. The third floor smelled like a nursing home hallway (I've worked in some, I should know) which was less than pleasant. The continental breakfast was as basic as it gets and frankly quite lame. The pool area seemed barren and maintained by minimal standards.
Very convenient location - right off of the interstate. Lobby and rooms were generally clean. The mattress on our bed was old. The hallways were unreasonably hot on our floor. Like the management didn't want to pay extra to keep them cool. Letters on their neon sign were burnt out. Hard to locate on a foggy night.
The location When I went to book this hotel, I picked it bc it said "Pet Friendly." When I got there, everyone had dogs. I thought that was nice. At no point ever through the registration process was I asked about pets; there was no indication through the registration process that there would be a pet charge. Mind you, I have no problem paying it, but the way the staff approached me was super rude. I called to ask whether or not the comforters were down (feathers) because I had woken up with a headache, runny nose and cough; I am allergic to down, so I figured they must be down. The lady picked up and I said, "Hi. I am wondering if you could tell me if the comforters on the bed are down?" And the woman goes, "I don't know, but I have been trying to get ahold of you ALL DAY. You have dogs in your room. Are you aware of the pet policy?" I was totally taken aback by her tone of voice. I said, "No, I just saw that it was a pet-friendly hotel, so i picked it." She said, "Well, it is $25.00 per night; so that's a $50.00 incidental charge." I said "Okay." and she said, "Okay, thank you, bye." And I said, "Um, what about my question regarding the bed comforter?" and she said, "I don't know." And I said, "Well can y ou ASK someone?" She turned and asked someone and they said no, so she said "No, they are not. Thankyou." And hung up. So, when I went to check the tags on them, they were. Then I called last evening bc I thought I left my phone charger in the room and the woman who answered said, "I have no idea about that. The people who are in charge of lost and found aren't here. They work again at 8am tomorrow morning. I will take your number and have them call you." Now, wouldn't you think that a lost and found list of items would be available at the front desK? Finally, when I was asking about whether a route 19 exit was north or south of our location, the woman talked over me and did not let me finish my question. Also, they took away the free coffee while the restaurant was open for breakfast. I do not think there was a continental breakfast, I did not see one, just a menu and prices for breakfast in the elevator. Also, they advertise themselves as a Hotel, but the restaurant is not open all of the time. No room service. Just unsophisticated customer service all the way around.
The location For the SECOND time....Someone had slept in the bed. My 82 year old Aunt climbed into bed only to find a nasty wash cloth in the bed with her. After driving 8 hours, I had to get out of bed, get dressed, go to the desk and get clean sheets, come back and make the bed. It was a gross event. Not going back there again. Last time you could tell someone had been laying in one of the beds and a drink ring on the table. We just used the other bed, What is up with that hotel?
For its price it was overall okay and fair. I was turned down by the small talk that the guy at the reception was putting on me. He just didn't stop. He was wearing a plain white T-shirt that had stains. For me this is an absolute no go if you are welcoming people. You need to have clean attire!
