I booked two rooms - 1 family room and 1 single room. The family room was spacious and comfortable. However, the single room was not very clean and there was evidence of damp - it was not satisfactory. There was also a lot of noise from the neighbouring bars on the Saturday night and whilst the Marlborough is not in a position to have any control of this it did mean that we got very little sleep until after 4am on the Sunday morning.
food options, central location noisy room, needs triple glazing
Staff were helpful and friendly. Excellent breakfast
Nice clean hotel and ideal central location in Witney. Breakfast service each morning was utterly hopeless.
Excellent evening meal
Staff very friendly and helpful Rooms and facilities perhaps a bit tired...
We were attending a wedding at the Fleece and this was ideally located. We requested a quiet room due to previous reviews about noise from the front, we were put in the annex in a newly decorated room. No issues with parking. Overall this hotel was ok, nothing special. Although the room was newly decorated the bathroom wasn't, there were 2 bad mis-spellings on the towel instructions in the bathroom which summed up the hotel really, lack of attention to detail. Remote control didn't work, bad reception on the 5 channels, really early breakfast (8:30 finish is far too early if you're on holiday), adequate breakfast but a lack of choice.
Comfortable bed and good food Limited car parking
lamb shank evening meal poor. good cooked breakfast.
tea coffee in rooms the 'hot' breakfast was served before we had finished the cereal. It could have been hotter
lovely location, good restaurant
Location Staff and service
The lovely village location and splendid grounds, the roaring fires and tasteful country house feel. The restaurant was a little disorganised. Four people took our orders and served us and the co-ordination was lacking and the service was therefore slow. Why not allocate given tables to specific waiting staff?
Character hotel. Standard room very small, we stayed in the barn conversion annexe, room was very small with single glazed window which was very noisy. It felt as if we were staying in a beach hut. There was a noise in the pipes which kept us awake most of the night. Also we had to travel to a nearby pub as the restaurant(which is another pub a minute) away was full, priority to guests with bb and e meal.
The reception and cleaning staff were extremely friendly and welcoming The setting is delightful and the food in the restaurant was very good. Our bath room was very cold - no apparent heating and interesting though the high ceilings are, there was a draught. This did not spoil our stay but if the weather had been colder it might have done.
I liked the helpful staff in the restaurant who worked extremely hard on the sturday evening of our stay. I stayed in room 121 which was awful and i have complained personally to Diane Cornish the sales manager and i have yet to have the courtesy of a reply to my comments.
The hotel grounds and local area The fact they have a two tier system where guests staying at the Old Swan get dining reservation preferences and their own roped off lounge area that the Minster guests cannot use
We stayed for 2 nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The first room was extremely hot, we spoke to reception who offered us another room without hesitation. The restaurant is excellent both for breakfast & dinner. After eating there the first night we definitely wanted to on our second night but forgot to book. So after a day out and about came back to hear it was fully booked being Saturday. However the staff were brilliant and said they would manage to squeeze us in and we weren't disappointed, the steak was perfect along with everything else! Staff very friendly and helpful. Lovely grounds and setting. Will definitely go back.
Setting and location excellent. Public rooms nice Scandinavian type rooms (118) were very very small. Little wardrobe and storage space. Walls were paper thin. We could hear neighbours even when they were whispering and using bathroom! Flight path from nearby RAF base. No double galzing. It was clear the accommodation was geared to single people on conferences/workshops. Massive disappointmant!
Lovely setting, staff very friendly. Lovely meal. There were no biscuits on the hospitality tray.
A get away from it all location with nice walks and Cotswolds life on your doorstep. No, its a nice place to stay and explore the two towns within easy reach of this location.
Feel at home, staff very friendly and helpful One of the bath taps was loose and the handle for switching from hand shower to water for the bath was missing!
Pleasant friendly staff.idylic and romantic location Restaurant food at dinner overpriced. The attempt at good food guide standard did not achieve its purpose. Our more modest comfort food meal in lounge the following night was more enjoyable.Wine mark up was very greedy
Location. Overpriced. Price point for this property is £170. Staff poorly trained (didn't know where room was, couldn't split bill for dinner between rooms). They can't make a decent cup of coffee either. No proper heating in bedrooms (just a small electric fire - radiators not turned on) which in October in the UK is unacceptable.
The dog friendly attitude of the staff and the way our dogs were welcomed.
room was very comfortable and the dinner was delicious
The staff were lovely, attentive, and the general air and ambience of the hotel was relaxed and warm. We enjoyed a lovely stay in a beautiful location.
The hotel staff were very friendly and courteous and the hotel setting was excellent The breakfast was of a poor standard and did not match up to my expectations - with small portions and poor quality which did not match the standards I would have expected - very disappointing !!!!
We really enjoyed our stay at the Washbourne Court Hotel. It was very relaxing , in a beautiful setting. . .quiet and peaceful just what we were looking for! The food was excellant, both dinner and breakfast were delicious. Some of the waiting/bar staff seemed unexperienced and/or uninterested in their job.
Very clean. Accessibility. Easy to park. Walking distance to town centre. Lack of tv channels. People expect some Sky channels now. Slight road noise.
Excellent food and very convenient location The fire alarn at 2.45am with no guidance or advice from the staff as to the problem
Location and value The attitude of certain staff members
Convenience of location, comfort of the hotel, courteous, friendly and helpful attitude of all the staff, good quality food
The hotel was in a great position to visit Burford and surrounding area. The food was first class and in fact servings were too generous! Lovely olde worlde hotel Would have liked a firmer bed
Staff making us feel well taken care of. On a busy street
Lovely hotel, high standards but a relaxed and warm atmosphere. Really good food, very nice bar with good beer and a log fire (it was November after all), rooms clean, comfortable and well appointed. Popular with the local community too, always a good sign.
Very friendly staff
Plesant staff. Decent breakfast
We only stayed for one night but it was great to get there and park at the hotel, book in dump our bags in the room and have a couple of drinks in the bar. We had a complimentary bottle of wine and fruit basket in our room, we chose to eat in the bar, we could have eaten in the restaurant, the food was gorgeous and the staff very friendly. it really is a beautiful old hotel a good breakfast in the morning. I probably would not have chosen the four poster room if another had been available, just because of the extra expense but on the other hand we do like a room within the hotel rather than in the courtyard of a hotel nothing to fault
Location and friendly staff.
Their food was excellent, all staff went out of their to help you
The staff were friendly and the food was enjoyable. The quality of the two rooms were good (newly refurbished), but there was no mirror in the bathroom. Staff were aware of this.
All the staff were very welcoming and breakfast was excellant Nothing
Room upgrade. Bar area. Wide choice of food. Food was excellent on the first night. Just 'good' thereafter.
Pleasant atmosphere, cheerful staff and good food The noisy road outside
The food at this hotel is absolutely superb, probably some of the best food we have ever eaten.
Staff very helpful and friendly. Food excellent Everything was good
Relaxation with the comfort and willingness from staff to help with our needs. Food was excellant with a good choice on menu ....
This was a repeat visit so we knew we really liked the hotel enough to want to go back. The staff are very welcoming and friendly, the cooking superb - especially from the extensive fish specials in the restaurant - and the room we had, spacious, comfortable accommodation. For those who like walking, the hotel is on a footpath - just walk out the back of the hotel and you're in beautiful Cotswolds countryside. Being on the A40 there is inevitable road noise, even in our room which was at the back of the hotel. This didn't spoil our sleep and was expected.
comfortable bed location not as suggested by website - was a long way out of the village. guest lounge closed most of the time. certainly not the cosy atmosphere suggested on website.
Friendly staff nice people super room Nothing
4 poster bed, and new bathroom room was very small- difficult to get in the bed, other side to wall. room was unheated when we arrived- late.Owner supplied a convector heater to plug in !
The location was excellent. The room was excellent - old and full of character. Staff were very friendly and helpful but not too intrusive. Room was a little cold - towel rail did not work
A lovely friendly atmosphere at this family run hotel. Great food and a lovely location. As a centre for exploring the Cotswolds this is ideal. Nothing.
A lovely hotel with very friendly staff
Very freindly great food all round fantasitc accomodation Nothing
Cosy room.Welcoming and attentive staff. The smell of wood smoke from the log fires in the bar and friendly atmosphere throughout the evening.
The friendliness of the staff The Stairs
Friendly staff providing excellent food and service
Very friendly staff, nice food, good breakfast with late service and 11am check-out
Location very good, food very good, staff very friendly. Toilet had not been cleaned to standard, room very very very cold no heating at all. Reported this problem to reception next day.
Needs coat of paint. Food poor.
Hotel was very central for exploring the Cotswolds. I was unable to park in the hotel carpark but did find parking 100 metres away.
The Staff, the Hotel Setting and the Food and Drink The rooms were a little small, but fine for a weekend break
Food was good in the bar & breakfast was fresh & very good First room very poor small & looked in need of update. Over breakfast swearing from kitchens of the otherwise helpful staff off putting - sounded like a lads night out. Dangerous light switch was reported 3 times and nothing done to my knowledge - we changed room but the switch was dangerous
Terrific village location. Nice old English atmosphere. Friendly staff I was traveling with my elderly mother (and mentioned that in my booking comments)and we were put into an annex room up a very steep flight of stairs. Hard for her to manage
The surrounding area, the water and the beautiful scenery. It is in a great place, Bourton On The Water is a small village, very quaint. The manager is very attentive to clients, he works very hard at making things go well. Some staff had walked out during the last days so the restaurant food and service was poor. Management recognised this problem but should have closed evening services. The room is much smaller than the pictures, you have a false impression that your room will be bigger so we were disappointed with this. The service in other restaurants were also mediocre.
it was easy access to the village no
The location was perfect, very central and we were fortunate to get rooms overlooking the stream that runs through the village centre. Bedrooms were large, clean and comfortable. Hotel very quaint with a lovely open fire at the back, staff very helpful and breakfast delicious.
