They let us check in early at no extra cost as our rooms were ready The bar drinks were very expensive
Very comfortable room. Friendly and helpful staff.
the whole thing .. gym swimming pool and restaurant
Good gym, sauna and swimming pool Temporary building work in progress until March
Friendly staff, good facilities, nice rooms
nice gym and pool nio tv in bar
A first class Hotel in beautiful surroundings. As usual, it was a pleasure to stay at the Bedford Lodge Hotel. Staff are friendly but professional. The food is delicious !! There's nothing really to dislike, but it would have been nice to have a modern tv as this was really dated.
Comfortable clean hotel, nice room - I would stay here again if doing business in the area. Bar prices a bit steep - £9 for a large glass of red wine!
short stay as arrived at 0200 and left at 1100 but the night manager was excellent, I did email in advance to let them know I would be late. My bed was turned down, the manager made me some food VERY quickly and the service was second to none.
The Bedford Lodge was a lovely place to stay, the bed and room were comfortable and the staff couldn't have been more pleasant. The hotel has lovely grounds and nice fitness facilities. While there, I took advantage of the pool (unfortunately, the hot tub and sauna were undergoing renovation, but should be completed soon). I usually live out of my suitcase when I travel, but the room was clean enough that I felt comfortable placing clothes in the drawers, where, unfortunately, I left some of them. When I discovered this and called the hotel, they very promptly packed the left items and sent them off to me at my follow-on hotel, keeping me informed of the progress. It is easy to get to Cambridge from there and, if in the area, I would be happy to stay there again.
nice quet location, stables next door a plus tv old and small
It was a lovely place to stay in peaceful surroundings and with nice views. The owners were welcoming and friendly and the restaurant menu was varied and to a very high standard. We could not fault our stay and would certainly stay there again.
the food was great, the staff were great, The place was relaxing. Would go and stay again.
Fantastic location with excellent views Price wise it did not compare well with comparable B & Bs. Shou be around £50
Everything was really nice. The staff very helpful and polite Nothing. It was all very good
The staff were very friendly and the room was clean and comfortable.the views all around the hotel were of uninterrupted countryside
Friendly and welcoming atmosphere
cleanliness and pleasant staff
We booked into The Plough Inn because we were over in Newmarket for the racing and wanted to stay somewhere that looked welcoming and traditional, and we found that the rooms were large and comfortable, the breakfast was a full traditional English with locally sourced produce that was brilliant, and we booked into the restaurant for our evening meal the night before and had an excellent meal with first class, friendly service.
I loved the location set in the countryside. The staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was really nice. Liked the decoration in pub and atmosphere. The temperature was too hot in the hallway were the rooms to stay were. In the shower there were other peoples hair stuck on the wall where it hadn't been cleaned properly. Bed wasn't that comfortable. Thought it was quite expensive to stay for the room and facilities we got. Would say a price of 60 per night is alot more realistic than 85 per night. This was because the room was very small and ensuite very small. Travel inns are bigger and cheaper.
Modern design, great breakfast Only a pay and display car park
Lovely hotel, very good atmosphere.
The staff were excellent, friendly, and competent. Also, I like the free wi-fi.
Location was perfect, breakfast was enjoyable and tea and coffee making facilities were also appreciated. Bathroom was clean and comfortable. Bed was hard, in room 125 we did hear what sounded like kitchen staff outside in the court yard talking late at night but it might have been residents. When checking out I was going to be charged £160 per room (booked two) which is a total of £60 more than my advertised online fee. I questioned and was told I definately booked at £160 a room. I had to dig out my printed receipt for confirmation of £130 and although the lady on reception changed the price no apology was given. When we asked for our car we were told to go outside and find the car porter, not something we expected when comparing the quality of service prior to checking out.
Very good breakfast. We had a spacious and quiet en suite room. I gathered that this was a recently modernized or added room, and that there were other rooms that had not yet been upgraded to this standard. The modernized bathroom looked very smart, but the design was 'too clever by half': The washbasin had a plug, but you could only use it by unscrewing it from the base and turning it upside down over the plug hole. I prefer a shower that is not fixed into the ceiling but can be manually moved about. The shower cubicle floor was slippery: a health hazardThe way of getting hot water was gimmicky, and you have to read the instructions (for which you need your glasses). No hooks in the bathroom either. Pity to have spent so much money on such gimmicky installations. Some of the lights in the suite could not be switrched on or off separately.
I would particularly commend Zoe as an excellent receptionist:smart, friendly and professional - an angel in fact!. The hotel itself is a rare example of a family run good quality hotel which is not run by a chain. My stay at this hotel transformed a necessary business trip into a real pleasure.
modern style of bedrooms - was able to have a room on the grond floor - great breakfast
The food in particular No
Parking facilities very efficient Room comfortable and clean. Staff very friendly and helpful Was the hotel aiming for modern or old? We were disappointed by the aimbiance of the restaurant as we found the seating poor and the music too loud. The lounge area was also not very comforatble. Perhaps we remember the Angel of old. These are observations not complaints.
the Portugese chap who whisked our car away on arrival and produced it again when we left
Water from shower was not hot.
The breakfast, and the location was central. The rooms were a bit dated, but still comfortable and pleasant.
Staff were excellent Long way from reception to the room. Breakfast could have had a better selection
The bar and resaurant were stark and lacking in any atmosphere. The resaurant menu was poor and did not warrent a rosette.
Good, clean and comfortable accomodation. Well situated at end of High Street. Excellent value for bed and breakfast. Polite and helpful staff.
Character In a room opposite the Wetherspoon pub on a Saturday night
Good service, polite staff
Initial reception. Waiter/waitress service. food quality Nothing
Location close to our daughter living in Newmarket, whom we came to see. You the Booking Agent booked us into a Double Room, whereas we requested a Twin Room. We 70 year olds found this when we went up to the Room & found it a Double. Had to go back down, where Hotel impressed us by giving us a Family Room.
The value for money and comfort
the hotel has its own charm and has very professional staff even some at a young age! parking away over the road was not secured ie gates, camera etc
The idea was to have a break from the real world and it managed to just that for us!! It wasn't long enough!!!
Good room, good food, attentive staff. Very enjoyable.
Very attractive and characterful hotel; comfortable and friendly; excellent service.
The idea of staying in such an old timbered building, however reconstructed it may be. I thought the dinner menu was not varied enough, though the quality of the cooking was pretty good.
The service of the staff was excellent. The position in the town was good. The unasked for free upgrade was fantastic. The resturant first class. Look forward to staying there again.
Very friendly bar staff There was no hot water in my room. This was mentioned to the receptionist who said that they were having problems. Not the answer I expected!!!
Rooms were lovely Having boked into our room , we went down for dinner ,waited to be called in for the sitting , only to be told that the resturant staff did not know that were were staying ??? 20 tables empty , but we had to go back to reception to sort it out. No one said sorry !!! we were made to feel very small ! staff very snobish .
The fact that the menu says 24 hours room service available but it was only true for a very limited choice of meals.
There was a lot of mould around the bath which needs resealing
Food was suprisingly good given the environment but the breakfast was very expensive for what it was The entire interior is in dire need of a make over and the location is right alongside the A14 so is very noisy day and night.
Excessive traffic noise. The need to keep window closed made the room V. hot & stuffy.Public areas-bar & dining area were cold and didn't encourage a lingering meal or drink afterwards.Food surprisingly good in the evening but buffet breakfast poor &coffee awful,so much so we skipped breakfast on the 2nd morning (bought rumbout filter type coffee & fresh milk for use in our room instead) Receptionist tried to put a flat advance charge for meals/drinks through on my card upon arrival ! I suppose this indicates the average level of your customers. We wouldn't stay again. See above
easy to park large size vehicule bathrooms from 1980 internet acces not free of charge and impossible to get a connexion
close to bury st edmunds breakfast / dinner in restaurant too expensive for choice offered
Good location for Bury St Edmunds. Comfortable rooms. Friendly staff.
Friendly and efficient staff
Booking in was easy, the rooms were a good size and presented well The restuarant experience was extremely poor.
Breakfast was poor value
The taps and shower that either scold you or freeze you and nothing inbetween and the atrocious attitude of the staff when I told them about it....'oh well, are you paying on the same card'...................
Couldn't fault this hotel
The staff were very helpful. The common areas (restaurant, bar and reception) were quite plush using the character of the place well. Breakfast was very good. No crisps at the bar! Room the room had a cheap / old feel to it. Walls were really thin, bed squeaked if you moved in it. Artex on the ceiling and the corridors smelt a bit musty
Compared to Sept 2010 with change of management 1. food is still excellent 2. staff hospitality and efficiency still excellent 3. It was easier this time to make booking on-line 4. a newspaper was available Compared to Sept 2010 with change of management 1. phone in room did not seem to work 2. fewer channels on tv 3. could no longer get internet in room -many people had to use laptops in bar or restaurant area instead of their room 4. water in shower not as hot 5. heating in bar/restaurant limited
The bathroom was small but good. Breakfast was excellent. The room was extremely small, the bed could have been more comfortable, the blanket and bedspread old and worn. Would have liked a duvet.
Nice hotel in good location A bit expensive and noisey at night
Lovely period features. At ease with its natural sorroundings. Lovely watercolurs hanging on the walls. First class service. I am beginning to run out of superlatives. In all my travels in the uk and abroad, this is easily the finest hotel I have ever stayed in. The three stars do not do justice to its quality None whatsoever. I would, however, liked to have access to the internet.
room warm no soap in room room in poor state in need of update so called hot water just warm . milk in room out of date have stayed in lot better for less
the food was quite good room needed updating......staff did not seem to be customer orientated
Pleasant friendly staff. In bathroom a failed bulb over mirror, and the shower curtain rail was becoming unfixed. Generally the room was too hot despite turning the radiators down.--- but better that than too cold!
location , atmosphere , Bed covers torn grubby advertised view of river scaffolding in way we were not informed about that when we booked
Excellent hotel, could not believe the size of our room or should I say suite. Very olde worlde which we do love, four poster bed (very romantic), large bathroom, little hamper with tea/coffee etc inside! The suite had everything we could wish for and more. Only bad point I can really say is that the televisions need to be more modern and slightly bigger as it was hard to view the tv from the four poster bed, but was it a problem...NO Not at all.
polite staff. Hotel and area very picturesque. Noisy as there was a wedding going on. Music could be heard everywhere in the hotel and the bass could be heard in our room.
The old worlde feel about the building and yet easy to park car there and just a couple of miles down the road the town of Sudbury None
the authenticity of the venue & made to feel very welcome somewhat slow service for both evening meal & breakfst
comfort and friendliness. decor a bit jaded in bedrooms
Good price - very comfy bed
a very comfortable stay. good food, good position The drink prices were very high
The friendly atmosphere and and good quality breakfast.
very large comfortable room
Very good for the price
Friendly, good service, good value for money. None
Really nice, better than we expected, in fact we are house hunting so are going to stay there again next week. None
Fantastic staff and lovely hot english breakfast!!
Comfortable room, excellent breakfast As above but defintely abit too noisy for me to stay again although definitely go there for beers/meal etc
Really good location and superb value. The breakfast was very good and the staff most helpful.
Supportive staff with accommodating attitude Hinge on door to immediately adjoining room, which was suspended on the outside of our room wall in dire need of lubrication - the sqeaking from the hinge when the door was opened and closed (at least 4 times in the middle of the night) was amplified by the 'sound box' amplification effect of the hingebeing directly attached to our room wall. A quick application of wd40 should suffice!
Staff were excellent and made the stay very friendly and informal None
The breakfast and the location put in converted outbuildings, just OK, towels were fraid, room only just clean, no parking - greeted by not friendly person to say car park full, only 5 spaces!
Room was very spacious, clean and fresh looking I feel that the beds could have been of a better quality - a bit more comfortable and the headboards banged on the wal everytime i turned over which woke me up.
Clean & cosy, all necessary facilities, friendly, massive english breakfast
Very comfortable and friendly stay, great breakfasts.
A quiet location close to the centre of a lovely Suffolk village, friendly, comfortable with a superb breakfast provided.
Good facilities exceptional breakfast
Guest House has great character as rooms we stayed were in the old part of the house with oak beams and floorboards that creaked. Bed was modern and comfortable. Appreciated the use of a refrigerator and supply of real milk for the tea and coffee making as opposed to UHT.
Location, close to centre of Clare and easy access to East Anglia. Welcoming staff, comfortable room and bed. The wi-fi signal could be stronger.
Very clean and modern facilities but with lots of character, owners very pleasant and breakfast was good. No bad points
Overall impression, very clean, good order. Staff very friendly & helpful despite family health concerns.Food very good. Requested a twin room. Told on arrival this was not available. Double bed offered was a little small for Grandmother & Granddaughter.
The friendliness, the food, the room were all excellent. We really enjoyed our stay and intend going back. Definitely no complaints
Restaurant and room very comfortable. Bathroom good size. Owner and staff very friendly. Food delicious. Restaurant and room spotlessly clean. Tea & coffee facilities more than adequate.
The whole experience from booking to saying goodbye couldn't have been better. The staff were all so friendly and accomadating,oh and the food....wow! Only that we had to leave!
I received a very good welcome on arrival. Staff were attentive and courteous. Rooms and setting very pleasant. Breakfast excellent
comfort, cleanliness and personal service. Excelent home cooked breakfast with local produce
the food was very good.the service was excellent .Would stay there again.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, the room spotlessly clean and the food - well absolutely delicious. We had a very relaxing break. No
The warm welcome from the owner. The spacious and comfortable bedroom with wi-fi if required. Extras like a cafetiere and bottled water. The delicious breakfast cooked by the owner/chef. Maybe a personal preference but the bathroom had a corner jacuzzi bath and I would have preferred a large walk-in shower.
Fantastic room, stayed in the log cabin. Spacious and very clean. Very quiet, no noise from hotel. Absolutely Nothing!! Food, room and service were all excellent.
Quite the room was cold and had to request a portable heater to warm it up
The hotel was far enough from a main road to have the solitude that we required
The staff were very friendly and polite, the room was fantastic, beautiful views out of the room, very spacious On arrival to our room, there were loads of flies on our inside window, we had to chase them out, they obviously found the room very comfortable like ourselves !
I liked the quite location, the established atmosphere, the friendly staff and the quality of the breakfast. The shower screen did not fit properly so water leaked on to the floor and my first choice at breakfast (kippers) was unavailable.
Staff very friendly and helpful
Small and friendly, lovely room and facilities. Room was freezing and heating remote control had no instructions!! Took 6 hours to warm up room when control was eventually understood. booke superior double room but only one bath and hand towel was supplied (discovered too late to rectify problem) and not nearly enough coffee. Also no hairdryer!! With hindsight all of these problems could easily be rectified, but I think the staff should have been more thoughtful/helpful
Relaxed friendly atmosphere & lovely surroundings
The staff and the food was very good The bed and the size of the room for the price. Paying £100 for a double room in the middle of nowhere I would expect a decent size bed. Not a 4 foot double bed. It was the most uncomfortable bed as well. The room was an attic room with very little window and the most horrible sisal carpeting which was like having the soles of your feet grated everytime you walked on it. However the room was clean and the ensuite more than expected.
The Staff Nothing
