Kakure-yado Yuji-inn - Hostel - Kurashiki - Building
1
9.1 Excellent (311 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Kakure-Yado Yuji-inn - Hostel in Kurashiki, you'll be within a 15-minute drive of Kibitsu Shrine and Canal Area (Bikan Historical Quarter). Featured amenities include microwave in a common area and refrigerator in a common area.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Well situated guesthouse with sleeping on traditional japanese futon. It will take few minutes of walk from JR station Kurashiki but around will be houses of old centre with many art museums and gallery. Small wooden lockers in each room, same as AC and fan. Owner could give you some advices about surrounding area or near cities.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was in the heart of where everything was, it was super convenient to get to places. Yuji-san was very helpful and friendly, he spoke English which helped a lot. The space was great, everything was tidy and clean.
Cons: Nothing. Everything was fantastic.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location is in the middle of Bikanciku where is the tourist spot. Very cheap compere the other accommodation near that. Kind staff, good hospitality. Feel like coming back to home. This is the second time to stay there. We will come back again.
Cons: More modern style toilet would be easy. But nothing complain for money value. It’s all good!!
7.0 Good
Pros: The hostel is in the touristy Kurashiki district. The street that’s famous is just steps away. The hostel is a old Japanese style house. It’s quite cute. The AC works really well. Free water, tea and coffee. You can order some food from the owner. The owner was nice, he took our luggage up the stairs for us. Bunch of mangas if you can read Japanese!
Cons: The futon bed was really flat. If you have a back problem you might not enjoy the sleep. The toilets are Japanese style. They have only one western style toilet downstairs. Two shower/bathrooms, one for male and one for female. In the female one, as you are taking a shower the water comes up. The drain is clogged or something. So when you’re done your feet are still in the dirty water. No kitchen that you can use. No key to the rooms. You can lock only from inside, so you can’t really leave any valuables when you leave the hostel to look around town.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice place and host
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very Friendly and helpful. Clean and spacious. The downstair common area is wondeful and the possibilty of meals is nice. With a couple of raindrops outside, the umbrellas loaned to us were appreciated. We will definitely come here again if we come back!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Right in the hub of the historic district. Friendly staff. Able to order fried rice dishes on site for 500 yen
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Yuji-inn was in a great location, and the room was basic but clean and comfortable. The owner is very helpful, and all the shared spaces are super-clean, and nicely designed. It's great value for a location right on the edge of the historic canal area, but also easy walk to supermarket, train station etc.
Cons: Not a bad thing, but be aware that it feels a little more like a hostel than a guest house - all facilities are shared, no towels provided, no room locks (small safe boxes where you provide your own lock) and the house is closed during the day (although we were given a code so we could get access).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Really love this hotel, the location is near the beautiful river, easily fiind. The owner here also really kind, there have English sigh every where. The place is really quite and comfortable at night, so you can take a walk around. Also the owner recommend a Izakaya, raw beer and sashimi are the best. But the owner's homemade dish are also delicious, must try once.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Got everything you need for a home!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was one of the best Airbnbs I've ever had in Japan. It's a spacious apartment 3-4 people can easily fit. There is everything literally (sink, fridge, stove, rice cooker, water dispenser, and even free coffee !). Can't believe it was only 10,000 for three of us. I will definitely visit this place again if you go to Kurasihiki again. Plus the owner was very kind to us !
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The apartment was really well equipped with everything I needed if I wanted to cook. The nice thing was the extras - oil, sauces etc, filtered water, nice toiletries. The host had made a useful instruction photo for each appliance eg aircon and TV remote control, with English labels for the buttons. Everything worked. It was great.
7.5 Good
Pros: Lots of helpful instructions. Spacious flat, could have slept 6 easy (we were 2). Full apartment facilities. Quiet neighborhood (and dark at night). Supermarket in walking distance. Charming old-town district in walking distance.
Cons: This is a rental apartment, not a hotel. Taxi driver had difficulty understanding the address as provided (in Japanese).
7.5 Good
Pros: The room is cozy and clean
Cons: None
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Good value place for Kurashiki. 10 mins walk to the canals, quiet area
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The host is super attentive. Timely emails are sent before our arrival so we have no problem finding keys or the location. The apartment is very big, clean and cozy. There were cans of ice coffee in the fridge, tea, snacks and instant coffee in the room. Everything was very thoughtful. The location is perfect. It is close to the station and the historical area.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Cozy comfy place Owner is super helpful and nice
Cons: Nil
10.0 Excellent
Pros: All travelers need is prepared. You can save your stuff properly. The owner's response is brilliantly quick and appropriate.
Cons: Nothing.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The location was perfect, and the apartment was spacious - especially after tiny hotel rooms in Tokyo and Kanasawa. Friendly staff.
Cons: The instructions for check-in were not very clear, and we had to wait outside for about 30 minutes before finding someone to let us in. In the morning, there was no hot water (because we did not know we needed to swich it on). Both problems apparently because of difficulties in language.
Ryori Ryokan Tsurugata - Kurashiki - Building
3
8.7 Excellent (272 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Ryori Ryokan Tsurugata in Kurashiki, you'll be within a 15-minute drive of Kibitsu Shrine and Canal Area (Bikan Historical Quarter). The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Localization is great. Better could not be. We are very pleased to our decision we chose that place. Also we are satisfied of service including delicious/marvelous dinner we ordered making that reservation. The city itself is beautiful even in winter landscape.
Cons: Instead of :-( we can put only :-)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A very good looking ryokan, the view from the window was lovely, the bedroom was comfortable, perfect location by the canal in the best possible area of Kurashiki, 10 minutes to the train station. Excellent dinner and breakfast.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: This Ryokan was delightful and the staff most attentive as one came to expect in hospitable japan. The traditional massive Japanese evening meal was served beautifully in our room, and the Onsen was also impeccably clean and well managed. The breakfast was also very well served and delicious
Cons: Nothing that the Ryokan could do really - the centre of Kurashiki is somewhat 'touricised' and so suffers from perhaps being a little more 'manufactured' Japanese traditional hospitality than the wonderfully remote and utterly authentic pace we had stayed in previously on one of the islands in the inland sea. The Ryokan staff were fabulously helpful and we recommend this place unhesitatingly - it is just quite expensive!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: A lovely ryokan, with friendly staff, a spacious room, beautifully presented food, and in a great location.
Cons: There was nothing to dislike.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely room. Excellent dinner and breakfast. Excellent location.
Cons: Everything was wonderful!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Dinner and breakfast were quite good! The neighborhood of this ryoukan is top notch, and it is fun to walk around the canal and surrounding neighborhood at any point of day. Staff was friendly. Hot springs were not super impressive compared to other places in Japan but were still clean and nice. In my opinion the location far made up for the excellent location of this inn!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We enjoyed our stay in Ryori Ryokan Tsurugata a lot. Staff was very friendly and helpful. We had amazing local dinner and breakfast. It was very interesting to wear kimono and sleep on futons. Overall experience was absolutely magnificent.
Cons: Everything was perfect. For tourists who travel with small kids - please keep in mind that ryokan does not have "western" food for children so you should take care of it yourself if necessary.
7.0 Good
Pros: The ryokan experience is a different experience. Very interesting for a foreigner, and opportunity to immerse at this location with onsite onsen and full traditional dinner and breakfast included in our booking. Also, location in Kurashiki can't be beat, located in the heart of the old town.
Cons: The type of room and associated price was unclear at the time of booking. It was explained to us later that the price is actually per person, even though the same room can accommodate 1 or 2 people. There was a surprise at check-out with the total bill, but management was helpful in solving. This needs to be clearer in the booking process.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Great location right in the historic Bikan district. Able to stroll around the shops and streets in the area at ease.
Cons: Difficult to locate the Roykan among the narrow streets crowded with pedestrians.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: When you want to take a walk at night the ryoukan offers some cute night lanterns to light your way in the dark.
Bingoya - Kurashiki - Building
4
8.7 Excellent (63 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Kurashiki Teien Ryokan Bingoya is located in Kurashiki and about 12 minutes by car from Shin Kurashiki Station, near Mt. Washu and Great Set Bridge. Yukata are available for guests to wear during their stay. The hotel possesses 9 guest rooms.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is away from the city. Very quiet with nice Japanese garden. However the bath is not an onsen which is unexpected. We get the whole building sleep on second floor and dine on first. Very nice staff.
Cons: A bit expensive but consider only 5 rooms in hotel, almost one to one service.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Staff were fabulous. Setting great. Food magnificent
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The traditional japanese accommodation was just lovely
Cons: Nothing really We were lucky to be driven to the accommodation by friends. However it is not so far from the railway station by taxi.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great traditional ryokan experience. Kaiseki was great and the included breakfast is almost kaiseki itself.
Cons: Very slow internet connection, and the location is hard to get to via public transit. You basically have to drive or take a taxi.
5.8 Okay
Pros: It is sounded by great garden and very serene environment. Very Quiet.
Cons: The house we stayed in was very old and it needed some repairing though kept clean. We neglected realised that it is 30min drive away from the main tourist sights of Kurashiki. Bit expensive.
Yuurin-An - Kurashiki - Building
5
9.7 Excellent (11 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at YUURIN-AN in Kurashiki, you'll be 7.8 mi (12.6 km) from Kibitsu Shrine and 9.6 mi (15.4 km) from Kojima Jeans Street. Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby, multilingual staff, and laundry facilities.
7.0 Good
Pros: A traditional Japanese house in the old Bikan part of Kurashiki. Interesting food from the cafe. Community atmosphere. Reasonable rates to stay somewhere with character.
Cons: This is a cafe that also has overnight guests, not a guesthouse as such. The check-in is not available until 1830, which may not be convenient. There is only a back room available for guests to use in the day, which is actually the cafe store room and office, so not somewhere to spend any time. There are restrictions on when you can use the shower (0600-0900, 1800-1900), which was not helpful when returning from a long, hot bike ride at 1600. Suitable if you are just staying one night. The breakfast offered for ¥500 is rice with raw egg, so not appealing to all.
7.5 Good
Pros: That's great.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Meeting new people during breakfast time
Cons: Special smell in the room
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A great place where I felt very welcome, awesome hosts!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The guest house is in a great location. The staff were very welcoming and friendly.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I liked the effort the staff made to create a very friendly/community atmosphere between all of the guests! Me and the other ladies that I shared a room with went to eat together and later made a group chat in order to stay in contact! Also the blankets were super soft - I felt very cozy and relaxed during the entire stay. I really recommend the breakfast (raw egg with rice and a special soy sauce) as the special soy sauce made a casual breakfast more unique and special! Anyone visiting Kurashiki (especially solo travelers) should look into this guesthouse, as it was honestly the best part of my trip to the Setouchi region.
5.8 Okay
Pros: The town is lovely and worth a visit, this property is right in the historic quarter. Free use of washing machine. Nice if you like a communal hostel situation; not what I expected booking through booking.com.
Cons: This property is more of a youth hostel than guest house. Staff were very noisy talking/packing up/working until 10pm as the place is used as cafe by day, rooms rented from 6.30pm. Had to pay to get a bath towel - not aware of this when booking! Traditional tatami floored room, glass sliding doors, no security and felt privacy was inadequate.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff, very helpful with various things such as where to get dinner and the best way to get somewhere. Different experience than a hostel, given that it is a cafe by day, and some rooms are used during the day for other purposes. I stayed in the female dorm, which did not get used for anything else and was comfortable and cosy. Nice fellow (mostly japanese) guests with whom I went to traditional Japanese restaurants, great experience!
Cons: Had to be very quite in the evening/ night due to it being a traditional Japanese house with thin walls.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: tradition accommodation with a number of modern facilities. The staff were exceptional helping us with all our needs
Cons: No place to lie down during the day because our room became part of the daily restaurant
9.0 Excellent
Pros: best position for tour
Cons: nothing

7.5 Good
Pros: Good location, close to outlet
Cons: Room too small, spa too small, too many to use the spa and need to return and wait for an hour . Bed too small for double up, smaller than a single bed !
7.0 Good
Pros: This place is just across the street from the old town. There’s a 7/11 down the street and a lounge to hang out in. They serve free ramen at night but I didn’t take advantage of that. I loved the free washing machine though.
Cons: The room was a little dated and minimalistic. There was no free water, which other hotels have offered. The sleepwear was cheap polyester. Also, if you care about soft pillows, bring your own!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Loved this friendly little place. The onsen was just beautiful; the location is RIGHT ACROSS from the old historical area, and the free late night noodles from 9:30-11 pm were much appreciated :)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very good breakfast! They provide free ramen!
5.8 Okay
Pros: Large rooms, own onsen, close to historical quarter
Cons: Atmosphere was like at a train station, feels busy and crowded
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very good breakfast. Friendly staff. Nice Onsen (natural hot spring hot tub).
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Great room, good amenities and bath area
Cons: There was nothing we didn’t enjoy
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Close to historic area Walkable to station Friendly, welcoming reception Actual real shower, not over tub
Cons: Hard bed and pillow Advertised western type breakfast not accurate No English Channel on tv
9.3 Excellent
Pros: We only stayed one night as a stop over so the place met out needs plus some. Breakfast was free and better than expected. The room was small for two people but fine for a short trip (or if you are one person). Staff was very nice and the front desk person was so kind to offer us a trip to roof to take photos of the wonderful view of Mt Fuji! Parking spot was good with plenty of room for our Corolla.
Cons: Room was a little small for two people but was fine for a short stay and met our needs
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice facilities- room small, but good for two people. Bed was very comfortable, linen white and of good quality. Great coffee machine downstairs- a plus in the morning for free coffee!!!! Onsen on the 9th floor was wonderful- very clean and perfect to unwind. Free ramen from 21:30 to 23:00- perfect again. One really feels pampered- from perfectly polite English speaking stuff to all the extras mentioned above. Would recommend to everyone. Note- hotel was not full when we were there- so do not know what is happening during peak season.

Pros: Clean and comfortable
Cons: The spa was smaller than we thought.

Cons: No free parking, but paid options available nearby at reasonable rates.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Property was very clean and in an excellent location near the train station. The room was fairly spacious and included a couch/futon.
Cons: There was a beam on one side of the shower area in our room that made showering a bit awkward for anyone of medium to taller height.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: 1. Quite close to the JR station 2. Diagonally opposite the hotel is a supermarket 3. Close to the Ario (a huge shopping center) and the outlet (They are just on the other side of the JR station) 4. Staff members at the front desk are helpful and friendly 5. One or two minutes' walk to the shopping street nearby, and walking distance to various tourist attractions 6. Various eateries nearby or at the shopping center
Cons: 1. Only one elevator in the hotel 2. Can be noisy if you are on the floor with some inconsiderate guests (with kids, in particular!)
8.8 Excellent
Pros: A short walk from the JR station and close to the Bikan historical area with its old buildings and pretty canal. Women staff dressed in kimono was a lovely touch. Excellent Slumberland bed and pillows. Lovely sofa in the bedroom gave further comfort, decorated with attractive textiles. A supermarket conveniently nearby. A lovely onsen bath in the basement with separate bathing for men and women. A great base from which to explore the atmospheric old town.
Cons: The bath room in our guest room was tiny, a prefabricated unit with a step up, which was annoying, and it steamed upg. A luxury suite which we saw on an upper level had a nice bathroom and 3 sofas
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Amazing location, right by the station and close to historical wuarter
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Good hotel & close to outlet.
7.0 Good
Pros: The hotel is just steps from the train station, a supermarket, AND the initially-sought sites of Kurashiki. The staff provided us the name of a fantastic restaurant, resulting in the very best meal we had in all of Japan. We had a balcony that was very nice, but barely used by us as it was so hot. Next time I would opt for the larger room and pass on the balcony option...especially in the summer.
Cons: Our room/suite was cramped and we were unable to override the air conditioning timer. ...a front desk request would have solved the air problem, but we were too tired.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Separate washroom and bathroom. Spacious.
Cons: Bed too soft for me.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The ivy-covered red brick building is beautiful. Leaving the hotel you step directly into the historical bikan quarter, or rather the hotel is part of it. In August 2018 they offered a "beer garden" banquet in the central place with great food, drinks included and overall good value. The staff is as kind and helpful as you can get.
7.5 Good
Pros: Near the old town of Kurashiki (5 mn by foot). You can access the restaurant which offers both japanese or western menu. Onsen also available in the hotel. Formerly a factory converted into a hotel.
Cons: Faint smell of cigarettes in the room
9.3 Excellent
Pros: nice hotel with a good location and great staff.
Cons: our room was right by the construction and also the AC didn't function very well so room was very warm.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The location is perfect near by the historical area. The hotel is also historical building but its facilities are clean and new so we stayed comfortably and relaxed.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location, very nice public areas, very interesting building.
Cons: Very small room.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Staffs are nice and friendly. Most of them can communicate in English. Nice surrounding area.
Cons: Room is pretty old, bed sheet is not so clean. Dont expect much from the facilities.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was more like a suite. For two tall people, it was a rare treat to find a Japanese hotel with so much space. It was very quiet, and the staff were very helpful. They even put an English language newspaper outside our room each morning without our asking.
Cons: We can’t think of anything that could have been better!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Staying in an historic part of city; Great breakfast and location, parking available on site at no extra cost.
Cons: Nothing!
5.8 Okay
Cons: The beds were horrific the mattresses were like ploughed fields and the duvets had very nasty nylon covers. The carpets were filthy. Altogether in sore need of a refurbishment
7.0 Good
Pros: The location is great, very close to the historical center. The staff was also very nice, as we got a smokers room by mistake and they changed our room without any major issue. The building is very interesting and accessible by taxi. The breakfast was not included (normal in Japan), but there are plenty of options nearby.
Cons: The rooms have a decent size, but the second room we got had with two single beds. Whoever books the hotel for the location probably knows that walking from the train station to the hotel may take a bit of time with luggage, but you can enjoy the historical town as well. The rooms are very simple.

2.5 Mediocre
Pros: I read the reviews of the whiners who had a hissyfit because of the location of this hotel. I was traveling by rental car so it wasn't a big issue with me. Sure, there is a shipyard next door and a refinery across the bay, but the many Chinese tourists staying at this hotel was unlikely put off by a belching smokestack. If you did not take both meals here, you missed out! The Kaiseki dinner was absolutely superb, with two maguro roe dishes and actual Beluga caviar on a sesame tofu. The dinner included a marbled beef dish with special dipping sauce, and a marvelous miso hot plate with a fresh fish fillet. A tempura platter was included and was followed by a flavored rice pot, pickled vegetables, and the 2nd soup of the meal. The dinner is worth 6400 yen at the hotel's restaurant. Breakfast was also spot on with scrupulously fresh dishes and you could even freshly squeeze carrot juice. The hotel also had a nice onsen and working sauna.
Cons: You need to keep the window closed as you are downwind of the refinery.
6.8 Good
Pros: Nice view of Seto Inland Sea, room is big, about 3 times that of the 8 tatami beds room.
Cons: The place is far away from all businesses. Actually it sits right next to a huge shipyard and there are all sorts of chemical plants near by. The closest eatery and convenient store is about 5km away.
6.8 Good
Pros: We Had a wonderfull sight From our Window. The Personal was very nice. We Had a Shuttle from The railwaystation to The Hotel and back to The railwaystation.
Cons: The Location was in an industryarea and ten minute by car from The next Railwaystation. The was nothing beautiful in The surroundings.

Pros: About 3 blocks from JR station, next to Ohara Museum and Bikan Historic District. Beautiful hotel with quality, tasteful and traditional classic furniture and wonderful seating areas in public areas. Our room was beautiful, very roomy and tastefully furnished. We really loved Kurashiki and the Kokosai Hotel. Wishing we had stayed longer.
Cons: Breakfast menu was normally expensive and I could not be understood when I just wanted the continental option. Did not have breakfast. But I really liked the beautiful coffee service and pastry in the little lobby coffee and tea bar.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Location , location, location.
Cons: Property is a tiny bit dated
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location near the train stations very clean spacious room, friendly staff we didn’t try the breakfast. Recommended!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: It is very close to the historic district which was the focus of our business (1/2 block). One of the staff went out of her way to construct a sturdy tube to mail our art print, because she couldn’t tell us where we could buy one.
Cons: The on-site breakfast was only an expensive buffet option.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Location right next to the historic sightseeing place, walkable to JR station for the two big malls
Cons: No air con in room only heat so need to open window but on the Main Street very noisy at night
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful facility, exceptional service. A two-minute walk to old town area.
Cons: Appreciate that Kurashiki provides street crossing aids for the blind. It did mean beeping noise in the street below our window until about 10 PM. Just a heads up. Make dinner reservations early!
9.5 Excellent

7.5 Good
Pros: Good, Location, next to the Station. Reception staff spoke only Japanese, but were friendly. Close to restaurants and convenience stores. Microwave in reception. Not so good: Scratched metal doors were all a bit "Cell Block H" and made me feel a bit scared, unusual for me in Japan. Single room was very very tiny. Like, seriously tiny. Wet room was just about big enough, but if I was fat or tall, I would have struggled. Water pressure varied wildly as to who else was using it at the time. Everything in Kurashiki seemed overpriced.
Cons: More space in the room, or make the room cheaper. Paint the external room door to stop it looking like a prison door. It looks scary. Sort out water pressure in shower. it is not nice to be half way through a hair wash and the water stops.
7.5 Good
Pros: Close to the station.
Cons: The room was small.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: 1. Very close to train station 2. Very bright and clean shower room
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was quite old, but the room and the bathroom were new and very clean. It was obviously great location and the staff was really kind. Since it’s a ‘hotel’, I could get almost everything I need during the stay. For example, they provided towels, slippers, pajamas, shampoo, hair conditioner, body soap, body sponges, toothbrushes and toilet papers. I could also borrow a hair dryer from the front desk.
Cons: The exterior of the hotel and the lobby were really old. I’ve never seen old hotels like this one, but it was okay because I felt like I did a time travel. The elevator was really small, but if you have only small luggages, it would be totally enough. The room and the bed were extremely small, but it was enough for me and I thought it was lucky to stay at a single room with this price. Only thing that annoyed me was the noise from the doors. The room were quite new except the door. I guess they renewed all the rooms, but they couldn’t change the doors. Every time someone opened the doors or closed them, I could hear really big noises. Except that one, I couldn’t really hear any noise from other rooms, so I think the walls between the rooms had quite good soundproofing.
6.8 Good
Pros: Very friendly helpful staff. The linens and bathroom were clean and the location and price worked for us. We were only there for a one night stay enroute to other places. We did not have ykmd to explore the town but wish we could have seen the historic old town which looked really interesting. Great location right by the station where there are places to eat.
Cons: This is an older hotel and a bit down at the heels. Fine for a night if you are not picky but not somewhere you would want to hang out.
4.3 Okay
Pros: It was near the station
Cons: The room was not "a room" - it was simply a single bed stuffed into barely enough space for a single bed: a bed which was not even easily accessible. The bathroom seemed bigger than the room itself. Staff called the room while I was taking a shower - and when I didn't answer proceeded to start calling my cellphone...all simply because "worried" that checkout time was approaching and I hadn't checked out yet. The check out time is the check out time. Of the many hotels I have ever stayed in, never in my life have I been bothered by staff in this way: and no this is not "normal" for Japan, where I have lived for over 15 years. If you are a tourist, don't stay here with any expectations of Japanese "omotenashi": this "hotel" is a disgrace even to the description "business hotel".
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The receptionist man was a legend. So friendly and went out of his way to help. He was up to check us in at 10pm, and to check us out at 7am. Room entrances are LOW, and while you may think the room doors are better for a jail, the rooms themselves are comfortable clean and quiet.
Cons: Room entrances are LOW. Everything could use a good bit of paint.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The staff was wonderful
Cons: Tiny room. No room to put luggage. No room for a chair. Had to sit on bed. The door stuck and I had to pull it open with both hands to get it open.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Room is so tiny that it is FUNNY how tiny it is, the shower room is larger than room and bed. But the price is really low and very central great location by the station, very safe, the lobby has a sitting area with a microwave oven to heat up some food and hot water to make your coffee. They even offer sleeping wear Yukata and bath items dryer everything, room even has a tv so given how incredibly small it is, they are doing their best with the rest, very clean too. You can leave the luggage until your train/bus connection all very safe and polite. Would stay again, very good value for the very low price in expensive Japan.
Cons: One nasty person was skateboarding jumping again and again outside somewhere late past midnight and you were praying they fall and break their neck so that you can finally go to sleep too.
5.5 Okay
Pros: The location was great - very close to the station. The staff were friendly and helpful. It's cheap (yet not good-value-for money - see below).
Cons: I live in Japan and have travelled here a lot. I am therefore used to small rooms. But this was beyond anything I have experienced before. I travel with a very small case and there was not room to open it and get into the bathroom. I therefore needed to close my case every time I went in the bathroom. The bed felt coffin like. After just two nights at this hotel, I had a real sense of claustrophobia. I would say the room size is about half of the usual very-small-room size in Japan. Furthermore, I found several long hairs in my bed sheets and in the bathroom. I think this hotel is quite far below the usual Japanese business/cheap hotel standards and yet about the same price. It is the least pleasant hotel I have stayed in through 15 years of travelling in Japan. It's not awful but it is very poor by Japanese standards.
