Bed was comfortable. Room renovations were nice. Price was good. Parking lot well lit. Old single pane windows hard to open and didn't do well for noise. Right next to the freeway, so a little more insulation would have been good. Refrigerator and AC were noisier than expected. Keycard didn't work. There was no toilet paper in the bathroom. Charged my credit card the next day for use of the in room safe even though I didn't use it. I do not appreciate being nickel and dimed especially, if not informed in advance. They should have just included the cost of the safe in the room price.
Comfortable beds, simple, fast check in and check out
The decor was nice & the staff were friendly. Crust Kitchen, the restaurant, was also very good. The bathroom was not very nice - it was very dingy & did not look like any of the pictures we saw online. Our room could have used new pillows, & in general, new towels were needed too. Two of the outlets in our room didn't work, including one located beside the bed...which was very annoying. Our biggest complaint though, was the noise. There was no sound-proofing in the walls & we could literally hear our neighbours speaking. We stayed for seven nights & many times we were woken up by our neighbours (who changed throughout our stay) & other people arriving back to the hotel late at night.
Helpful staff. Nice pool. Refurbished but not done well. Motel not a hotel.
The cleanliness of the hotel. Except there was mildew on shower tiles. They charge you an extra $22.54 per pet per night. This is not told to you at all but you sign paperwork stating they are going to charge you when you check in. They don't tell you and you wouldn't know unless you fully read the small print. So get ready to pay extra then what you paid on Kayak. Also get ready for them to watch your every single step when your outside your hotel room. Talk about stalking.
Not pricey. Well-located. Clean. Comfy beds. On-site convenience store/restaurant. Horrible water pressure in the shower. Poor lighting options.
I didn't like how they played the music by the pool all night long. That was super annoying
Clean, efficient check in
Staff was very helpful and friendly. Good location for Old Town and in general for sightseeing around San Diego. Felt safe and travel mart and restaurant right in front of hotel.
When you travel you are specting to get to the hotel and relax to get an early flight. We spend a terrible night at the hotel cause of the storm and couldn't sleep cause of lack of electricity. I invited my daughter that is going thru cancer to enjoy a pleasent night and we stayed up all night to depart and get to the airport cause the electricity never came back. We talked with the manager and he wasn't helpful. We wanted to talk with someone besides him or the owner and he said no. I'm not traying to get an advantage cause of the weather like the manager said I was. Cause of his lack of experience he is not providing the hotel a good review. I don't recommend staying there they will not make you feel at ease or welcome.
The restaurant was great. Good food and staff. Fast service The room was dirty, falling apart, noise from the freeway was loud, the room smelled like bad bathroom cleaner, bed was uncomfortable, shower knob wiggled and felt like it was going to come out of the wall, noises from the pipe, bubbling from the ceiling paint in the bathroom, bathroom door looked like it had been forced open at one time, pool smelled bad, hot tub was worse.
Muy buena atencion Mala conexión wifi
Good question. Everything. Cigarette burns in the comforter of the nonsmoking room. When I opened the door to get the food I'd had delivered was harassed by someone who claimed I shouldn't have ordered it because he got everything for people at the motel for free (??????) and then informed me he'd be there all night, presumably in the car right outside my window where he was talking to me from. He was gone apparently by the time anyone came to check about it, but still unsettling for fear he might come back, so I was too concerned to leave my room to get ice or anything else. When I realized upon stepping out of the shower that morning that there were no bath towels in the room, I was informed by the front desk that I would have to come down and get them from the front desk. Dried off with the hand towel because what other option did I have? As I was leaving, this heinous stay was capped of by someone being arrested right next door for some drug related offense. Was I expecting the Ritz? No. But for damn near $90 so I'd just have a place to sleep while traveling for business, and not actually getting any sleep? Spare me.
Big comfortable beds, nice staff, decent proximity to San Diego sights, good air conditioning Few outlets, no hair dryer or shampoo
Price was only good thing about it I have never stayed at such a bad motel 6. Sheets and towels stained, not even sure if they were freshly cleaned. Has to switch from first room, smelled horribly. not in a good area. And never have I had to give a cash deposit on top of giving credit card info. And when I went to check out, they weren't planning to give me deposit back. I had to ask for it and then they went to check my room before giving it back. Shady staff.
The room was clean; no complaints about service. Parking is extremely limited at night.
The price was right Close to a lot of good places No problems finding parking Clean Friendly staff Really good breakfast Small room (not that big of a deal though) Slightly weird smell Bed/pillows weren't that comfortable Remote control didn't work
Reasonable price, cheap place to stay in S D. Area around hotel not too bad, seems safe enough. Bathroom was clean and in good shape, bed was clean and comfortable. It was quiet at night. Would stay here again for the price Inside facilities showing it's age. Carpeting, furniture showing wear and tear. Small rooms w too much furniture in them. Driveway entrance, parking lot is a little tight space wise. Don't expect a nice view.
The room was small but had a mini-refrigerator and a microwave + coffee maker. The location is convenient to all area highways, very easy to get anywhere. The staff is nice and the room service s doing their best considering how badly the rooms need repairs Getting in and out of the property is super-awkward, the driveway is tiny and very easy to miss. The elevator looks like the one in the public parking garage. The rooms are tiny and the walls are paper-thin, you will hear each word your neighbours (or their TV) say. Light switches in the bathroom were half broken and the fan sounded like a jet on takeoff.
I had to flush the toilet four or five times before it worked properly. I generally like Super 8, and the room looked good, but I can't say I recommend this motel. The Shower water seemed to have only two settings: cold and scalding hot (though after several minutes of tiny, careful turns of the knob, I finally managed to get a decent temperature). The room was clean but for a few small, black spots on wallpaper in the bathroom. The lights mysteriously went out when pushing bed against wall, but returned when I pulled the bed out again. It was somewhat noisy, as such motels tend to be (luckily I had earplugs, so no problem).
the lighting in the bathroom LOL THE FACT THAT THEY HAVE BED BUGS!!!! DONT DO IT!
We got there, slept, and left. It was really good for sleeping in and leaving from. The TV didn't have an HDMI port so we couldn't Chromecast movie musicals to it. It made me cry almost as hard as the movie musicals would have.
There was cable and it was close to the gas lamp district/convention center Very dirty rooms. Carpet had not been vacuumed. My BF walked around the carpet after a shower and his feet were turning a black color like he had been walking outside. Comforter had stains, white stains (don't even want to know) and weird gray stains. Tub had hair inside and other small debris. The inside of the coffee machine was dirty as well. When I opened the ice bucket, a fly flew out and it bugged us all evening cuz we couldn't catch it. The tv didn't work when we just got in and the guy who fixed it barely said a word to us. After leaving the room for a few hours to get dinner and coming back and deciding it was too dirty to stay in, the people at the front desk said there was nothing they could do about it. No room change or discount/refund (it was over 200$ for a one night stay). will not be staying again
The room was very clean and the beds were comfortable. The complimentary breakfast was a nice way to start the day. Friendly, helpful staff. I always stay at Super 8 - consistent in quality.
It was an adequate place to sleep while exploring SD
It was very clean and well decorated; which gave it a modern feel.
Easy access to where we needed to be. Breakfast room extremely crowded. Our room had a distinct order as if something was sprayed in room to mask an unclean room. Air conditioner needed a thorough cleaning.
The staff was very nice Everything else was awful from the non-smoking room that wreaked like cigarettes to the train tracks next to the Motel to the transients sleeping on the grass in front of the check-in area
Room was clean and smelled nice. Train seemed to go by every 30 minutes which was very close to my room and the train always sounded it's horn. Bed was very uncomfortable. The mini-fridge did not work. TV was an old CRT.
Really liked the price and location. The staff was friendly and helpful. Had a laundry mat on site. Easy access to public transportation and freeway ,places to eat , stores, attractions. The bed was a bit hard.
This motel isn't in the best location, because it's right under the freeway overpass and right next to the train. But I'm not gonna lie this motel was so clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. And if you don't want to spend so much on a nicer motel I recommend you just stay here.
Staff was rude/acted as if we were putting them out. Neighborhood is surrounded by homeless people living on the street unless you drive a smart car or motorcycle parking is joke. Nothing like to pictures.
The location The staff was really rude
The door locked. The hot tub was pretty good. I was never in danger, even though I felt nervous that I could have been. THE STAFF WERE SO RUDE. So rude. I am a fairly kind and patient person, but i just couldn't. When I first walked into the room the lady rolled her eyes at me and then asked how she could help me..., oh I am so sorry to inconvienece you by having you do your job. I asked to check in, she said she didn't have any rooms available and to come back at 3. I did. The lady told me to wait 30 min because the computers were down. So I went back to my car to wait. And 10 minutes after I had been waiting she came outside and laughed at me, and then told me the computers were up and that "they could've checked you in by now." Well thank you, sorry my telepathy wasn't working and I did not know. The room was dirty but I was expecting that because of the price. Ants everywhere. No bed bugs but I have read reviews that other rooms have them. Lots of creeps staying here, and the police were there the whole time, which gave me the feeling that not a lot of legal things happen here. I would recommend this place if you are an adult or adults looking for a cheap place to sleep at night. I definitely would not recommend bringing kids, and I would not come expecting good customer service.
The quietness n the location The staff was rude n the room smelled really bad
nice staff very noisy location (cars and trains all the time)
cheap prices The room smelled like smoke and urine. ended up stinking up all of our clothes and luggage.
said there was free wifi, but there was no free wifi
Mike at front desk was awesome carpet was sopping wet had to stuff on floor so our wouldn't get wet
Excellent location to Old Town Old place. TV's are.....could use replacing. No TV guide....
The staff was excellent. Very helpful, pleasant, and knowledgable about the area attractions.
Near old town, best price... Blanket, a little unconfortable...
For travelors that actually travel, and not lounge, then you will enjoy this hotel for it's location. The hotel is two blocks from the transit center. The transit center is a hub for trains, trollies, and buses. The trolley system is fast, and can reach all of San Diego in minutes with an all day pass of $5. The pass is also good for most bus routes. Old Town is a block away, and has the best food in all of sd. Mission Beach is 15 minutes away. I spent my time in the Gaslamp District and Old Town, and traveled with ease! Also, there is a liquor/mini store 3 blocks away for saving on meals, but most of Old Town has happy hours with super good deals on lots of food. Staff was kind, and room always fresh. The Wi-Fi was a little too slow. The pool was refreshing, but it would have been a tad nicer if slightly heated. The rooms seem to have a pre set tempature, so if you need it hot or need it cold, you're kinda stuck. It felt like it was at 67 degrees. I like it cold, so I just opened the bathroom window and the front window and created a natural draft that made it very enjoyable. I rarely stayed at the hotel though, due to my interest in really seeing the city. Comfy bed, hot showers, plenty of pillows.
The price and location were great. Also, we appreciated their early check in time (2pm). It was easy to get to and close to major freeways. Your double message is confusing. How can one write anything they didn't like and at the same time not complain? Anyhow, the clerk wouldn't give my wife a print out of our transaction and the total, as we checked out, and he informed her that the actual price of the room varies between us and Booking.com.so he couldn't tell her what it was. I had to go in and request a print out and inform him that the transaction was between us and the motel and not Booking.com. He finally gave me a print out with the total, which was the one we expected.
The Inn was on walking distance from cosy Old Town and the Old Town Trolley station. The rooms were spacious and adequately clean. The lack of heating in November when night time temperatures drop to about 10°C was rather uncomfortable. Nobody likes waking up in a cold room. Upon repeated requests the staff finally managed to put the heating system on. Unfortunately the heating system had a tendency to set the activate the fire detector.
Really like the service. Room was decent and clean. No odors. Best price I can find in the area. Easy parking. Great location. Unable to get the air conditioning to work. The walls are too thin; can hear neighbor's tv on all night.
Location No continental breakfast
Nothing really. The room was very old and had cracks everywhere. The restroom was falling apart as well as the tub. There was a weird door that had plants in it. very weird and dirty.
We requested and received a very quiet room. The room and hotel overall were very clean and the staff friendly. Free breakfast options included steel cut oats, no-crust quiche, and waffles. We had the oats, which were good. The fresh fruit was also high quality: oranges, green apples, and bananas. We didn't try the pool.
Located close to airport for flights out. Located close to public transit and Old Town District.
We love San Diego and the Old Town Inn. We always stay there nothing
Appreciated the modern rooms. Very quiet and simple. Bathrooms were clean! No hairs found in the drains or corners. Absolutely no early check in. Even though house keeping is there at 9am, they will not give you a room till 2pm. There is no phone in the room. So you can't call to ask for anything. TV was very small.
The room was was quite new and very clean. Bed was firm but supportive and sheets were upscale. Overall very comfortable room. There are only 6 parking spots for 18 rooms otherwise you have to park on the street. No ice machine, no pen or paper in room and no lamps on the end tables next to bed.
The price was great, the rooms were super clean, the shower had the best water pressure of all the places we stayed on our trip. The bed was comfortable and clean. The person who checked us in helped us find a place to park, was very polite and pleasant to work with. Overall, great experience. The only inconvenience we had was there is limited designated hotel parking available. That being said, we easily found parking on a safe street right around the corner, less than 500 feet away.
The rooms were clean. The fact that it was in the middle of everything was very convenient. There wasn't enough parking for everyone there. I had to park on the street both nights I was there. There wasn't an ice or vending machine of any kind.
The location was great! It was in the center of a lot of San Diego hotspots. My fiance and I were staying here for spring break to visit Sea World and Balboa Park; it only took us ~15 minutes to get to both places from here. For what we paid for and for just a one night stay, the room was sufficient. It was very clean, especially the bathroom; and it seems like they just revamped the place recently. The bed was quite comfortable. Other reviewers complained about the noise level since it's on a busy main street, but our room was facing the street, and we were able to still sleep well and spend the night without being bothered. Overall, an excellent place to stay and well worth the money. I would definitely stay here again next time we visit San Diego. Parking was difficult because there were only 6 spots first-come, first-park in front.
Immaculate and Pefectly decorated. Free wifi. No ice and limited off street parking. But owner offered to help us find a spot if we had trouble. No microwave, or refrigerator but we knew that.
Smelt like bleach. Window wouldn't open to air it out. Told the staff but they never came by. Check-in was at 3 but rooms werent clean until 4.
The rooms were clean and parking was easy. The lady at the front desk was really nice and polite. The room was connected to another.
Enjoyed our stay hotel was very clean. The location was great, very close to beach and other attractions. Your staff was very friendly and helpful we could not check in by three so I called the hotel and your clerk assured me it was ok to check in late. I would come back for a return visit. Thank you for a wonderful stay
Location was close to water Dirty. Bed was uncomfortable. Door wouldn't close all the way. Towels had hair on them.
I like the location and the stuff .. Parke lote
It was conveniently located. Room was smoked in. Prostituion bust as I was pulling in. Lots of people hand cuffed outside. Security guards posted in the parking lot harassed everyone coming in and demanded to know names, how many people, and which room they were going into. All my clothes now smell like smoke.
Location, friendly staff, easy check in. Hard floors very dirty- didn't want to walk barefoot. Beds SO uncomfortable. Elevator and hallways smelly. VERY shady looking clientele- people who were clearly on drugs or homeless. One of the doors to the building didn't lock so anyone could walk in. Buildings located on property in such s way that people could easily hide. Did NOT feel safe walking around alone or at night. Safest place felt in the room. Room wasn't comfortable enough thigh due to dirty floors and very uncomfortable bed. Just didn't feel comfortable sitting down on anything in the room.
Very Clean and freshly painted Well lit Security guard walks around checking up on the property Cable TV It is the basic or bare minimum eg. Soap for hand washing but no shampoo or conditioner. Vinyl flooring not carpet makes for more noises above you I thought there was a Zumba class at 8am above me every morning lol Water turned cold after 5 minutes so shower fast!! No closet or dresser for clothes
...no smelly carpet floor, love it!!
Good location. Relatively quiet (except for being in the flight path). Convenient to all Ocean Beach shops & restaurants. Room is basic but comfortable and clean.
Location location location nice bed and washroom. Right next to a 2 block strip with everything from souvenir shopping to burgers or sushi The room was a bit small but everything was great besides that fabulous even. I will return for another stay.
Great location. Next to a fabulous brunch place and less than a 5 minute walk from beach and restaurants. Super comfy bed. door was a little rusted and there was only a shower instead of a tub/shower.
It is a perfect spot near the beach, plenty of shops, dining within walking distance. People are laid back, friendly, welcoming. Beds are comfortable. Staff is amazing!!! Courtyard is beautiful! Well worth the $$$$. The improvements are a work in process. Can tell that they are gradual which is good as it keeps the prices realistic. Thank you for keeping character and charm! It is a true beach hotel that fits well with the area.
Right on the beach. Close to all the restaurants and shops. Staff was very friendly. Free parking. Nice courtyard. We will stay here again but will pay the extra money for the king ocean view rooms. Very old, run down looking room. Needs updating. We reserved a regular queen room. The 1 window in the room looked out onto a brick wall (which was painted with a beach scene). The bed was definitely NOT a queen and was VERY uncomfortable. If you check in and they try to give you room #112, ask if they have ANY other room.
The proximity to the dog beach it's a plus. The room was small by the courtyard for one person and two dogs. Comfortable bed, tasteful modern furnishings. Needs a microwave, coffee maker and toaster. Love the patio with the view of the Ocean, but not the homeless and hippies been loud and obnoxious but I guess this is been an on going issue in Ocean Beach. I stayed six nights and the last three nights was lots of partying at next room, and the person on the other side of my room was snoring very loud that kept me up. The courtyard is nice, with tables and beautiful fountain in the center with nice views of the Ocean. The hotel only offers coffee in the morning, I think continental breakfast should be included for the price. The hotel attracts young crowds who like to party and be inconsiderate for the rest of the guests. It's a non smoking hotel but smoking is allowed in the courtyard and the room patios. I could smell the smoke from people upstairs smoking and throwing the cigarette butts a ashes over their balconies. The location it's a plus for beach goers and surfers, dog lovers, young people but not so much for relaxation.
Location was ideal for beach and eating and shopping A little too pricey for what you got but location made it bearable
The location was great. The view is awesome. Very quiet and friendly. If you wanted to bring your pet they are great with that. Second time staying there and will be staying there again in the future.
I loved that we were so close to the beach. You could hear the waves crashing in the morning. Staff very friendly. Free parking was always available even during the busy Memorial Day weekend. Lots of restaurants within walking distance. I would definitely go back. The floor/ceiling is thin between the first floor and 2nd. The group upstairs were loud and partied late on Friday and Saturday. We didn't inform the front desk so maybe no one else heard. Bathroom was small. I think if there were shelves or hooks even, that would help instead of laying things down on the toilet seat or sink.
You can't beat the location Not the greatest hotel in the world but we didn't care because we were at the beach the whole time- easy walking to all shops I would stay here again Thin walls Very soft beds
Then ocean view Amenities. Very poor standard. I felt like I was in a 2 star hotel in some third world country. That place could have done better. The bathroom felt filthy. And what's with that air conditioner beside the bed?
Small, clean rooms. Not much in the way of in-room comfortable seating space. Nice area in the courtyard with seating around tables. Bathrooms are small - be careful you don't hit your head on the sink when you're on the toilet. Still, I'd stay there again. Location, location, location.
Nothing Dirty, run down, and filled with drugs and homeless people
Get's the job done if all you have to do is sleep. Towels were like dish clothes, and they only gave you 1 (despite requests for more). No shampoo or other normal stuff.
Great price and value, convenience of location, very friendly and helpful staff. No shampoo, conditioner, and lotion like most hotels, but this is minor given the great price.
The proximity to the airport. The room was hot. Had the air conditioner while I left for a couple of hours and when I returned it was as hot as when I arrived.
Staff was responsive and friendly. For basic economy lodgings, it was fine and I had a good night's sleep. Electricity went out in my room around midnight. I was sitting in the dark. A circuit breaker had obviously tripped when I turned on the light over the bed. Called front desk. No answer. Walked down to office. Man behind the desk who checked me in saw to the problem immediately and I had the electricity back on in short order. Also, be aware that they put a $100 hold on my credit card, which was released immediately without problem on check out, assuming I hadn't smoked or had pets in the room. There were a lot of cigarette butts in the ashtray at the bottom of the stairway that hadn't been emptied or swept from the stairs.
Not being negative, actually rooms were clean . But we were just surprised and should have done our homework. Not the type of place to go with a family, single people or guys trips ok butnot kids. It reminds you of a seedy motel, across the street from a strip club, nit a nice neighborhood. If yoy're ik with all that , then its not bad.
Great for the the price. Has everything needed if you're just going for a one night stay. Beds were clean as well as the bathroom. Planning on staying for another night now. Pillows were kind of flat. TV slightly outdated.
not much rooms were small restrictive for smokers no pool no amenities beside room and tiny coffee/breakfast area in am cramped parking would not stay there in any future trips
Bed was comfortable Old building, nude businesses nearby
Location was great with lots of eating options near by and only a few minutes from sea world and not too far away from shopping centers and sea port village. Not too pricey. The place was kind of run down and it was obvious that the staff did not like their job, definitely not the friendliest and definitely didn't bend their back to accommodate people.
Great location, clean room, extremely friendly staff (Alberto was great), nice pool & hot tub. I would definitely stay again based on price.
Other guests seem higher class then nearby hotels. Working or busy people that come back at night. No partying drinking weed tinsel with.
Es war sauber.. Und ein günstiger preis. Das Bett ist gut. Das Personal ist unfreundlich. Ungünstig Lage zum centrum. Es ist sehr laut
i will never tell anyone to stay there. it was load and annoying and i am petty sure the room next store was a hooker. i could hear her night visitors all night. i wanted to get a night of sleep away from the roommates. i should of just stayed home. i left early in the morning because i didn't feel safe there.
Not much. Gave us a new room when we asked for one because there were roaches in our first room... Hair on the towels when we checked in, roaches in our room, staff was not very friendly and seemed bored or bothered when we needed to talk to them. We booked a king sized bed and they gave us a double, so we got the wrong room as well. Breakfast was just muffins and danishes and coffee. Really basic cheap food.
Clean Well maintained Had everything they said it did Great price Would definitely stay there again Took a few minutes to get to it from the freeway.
Front desk manager was kind, thoughtful and fair. The physical condition is not suitable for anyone looking for a room using an online hotel search site. We booked it because of a very (very) misleading review score of 4.5/5 on a major hotels website... admittedly by only a few reviewers. Fortunately, we did not pay in advance through the website, which we will not be using again. The front desk manager (and possible owner), was fair, thoughtful and willing to cancel our reservation as soon as we looked at the room. I don't want to be disrespectful in any way, so I would just say that it is inappropriate for singles, couples or families that have any other options. At an advertised cost of $140 per night and a score of 4.5, it was hard not to be shocked upon arrival.
If you're looking for fancy it's not for you, but if you need a clean place to stay near the airport it's great. All the staff we met were really nice. I was traveling with my daughter and just needed a place to sleep and refresh close to the airport and amtrak while we went sightseeing and it worked great, just a short uber ride from the public transport. I felt safe and the shower pressure was great with plenty hot water. The room was pretty small and the building is old but I expected that from the reviews; I think it's a great value for the price paid compared to other hotels in the area.
I was impressed with the cleanliness and also modern looking rooms even though they are TINY. I appreciated the linoleum/wood floors in the room, a nice change from grimy motel carpets. The area of the hotel has a lot of druggies/sketchy people but that's not their fault I know, I still felt pretty safe though.
