The friendliness of the staff That we were not told either from you or the hotel that there were renovations going on
comfortable room and pleasant staff
clean, pleasant surroudings, all round good value, would definitely stay again if prices remain good value and possibly stay for pleasure. Ths was a business trip. nothing
Building and rooms of an excellent quality (although being worked on and extended - did not detract) Food choice in bar limited. No internet in rooms. Corking fee £100 !!!
very impressed- recently stayed at the Peninsula Hotel in Beijing and my room here was of equal high standard
Leisure facilities zipped up double beds
What a great experience. We arrive late (delayed flights) but the hotel is covered 24/7 and check-in was seamless by the porters. Room service at 3am (arrival time) was wonderful, a cold beer after a long flight and a 2 hour drive was dealt with swiftlyand enthusiastically. The rooms were wonderful. comfortable bed, hot pressured shower, modern facilities all played a part of this great experience. Fortunately the was nothing that we disliked...it was a wonderful place for the money.
The Staff are friendly and very helpful, this was our second stay at Old Thorns and I would recomend them as a nice relaxing get away.
Now thew place in finsihed (mostly) I was impressed with the renovations. Very clean, nicely decorated and everything in good condition and working (stayed in the Alliss annex). The breakfast / breakfast plates could benefit from being hotter (this was also my main complaint last time we stayed).
Good size room, modern decor, clean with good facilities Liked it all
all good very expensive resturant
The fact that its in the countryside and its tranquil. no
A beautiful hotel in really lovely surroundings. The spa is fantastic and the breakfast was delicious. Surprisingly one of the pillows in the room was dirty and the rubbish bin in the bathroom had not been emptied. However the good points more than made up for this and I had a wonderful stay.
Dinner in the Restaurent I'm afraid that the Cooked Breakfasts tended to be on the cold side. It was very cold outside but some windows were opened never the less. The bathroom shelf was for some reason erected over the Lavatory Basin. To prevent Toothbrushes etc. from falling into the Loo we had to use the Window shelf for our things. Also the shaving light was to one side of my face leaving me to shave partially in the dark. Overall though we liked the Room.
Relaxed yet special
* Beautiful setting and surroundings * We had a very good room * The was also excellent * We only had breakfast but it was also very good
This is an easy going, smart hotel set amidst beautiful English countryside. The gym and spa facilities are state of the art. Highly recommended.
Location Room very basic. Room facilities not as listed so had to ask and some still not available ie trouser press. Leisure facilities extremely expensive.
Staff were excellent. Small room, high bar prices, cold water in the morning.
We had a good room for the price payed, but in addition to the accommodation guests were allowed free access to the spa which meant we had terrific value for our money. Guests are also offered the option of checking out late to enable over-night visitors the chance to use the facilities. I was a little disappointed in the cooked section of the breakfast , but other snacks and afternoon tea purchased at the hotel were excellent.
At £58 for two people, inclusive of Bed and breakfast, you really can't complain. The room was functional and comfortable, breakfast was fantastic and the hotel is within easy commute of London. We recommend it. The room could do with a little diy but that's all. Great value for money.
Only an overnight stay but a clean room and a nice breakfast was all I wanted and it was what I got. .
Very comfortable. Large room. Friendly informal staff. Brilliant value for money. I got the impression that some of the staff were a little under pressure and not too happy in there job. This was either through poor training or bad communication from the management team to keep staff informed of what they should be doing and there responsibilities and also letting the staff feel appreciated.
An interesting hotel set in the most beautiful countryside. The rooms were far from the A3, & when the new bypass is opened it will have no passing traffic. The hotel was a little run down, but clean and acceptable
Position Hotel in need of renovation
The food we had was excellent. The hotel was warm and there was plenty of hot water.
In general the staff were outstanding. The manager, Denise was exceptional. A bright and cheerful person as well as helpful. Free wi-fi would have been a real plus. A small refrigerator in the room also would have been a big plus. This is a 2 star hotel so these items are iffy, but perhaps these items might have made it a 3 star????
Good evening meal The carpet didn't look like it had been hoovered very well and the bathroom could have been cleaned better.
We arrived quite late at night and were greeted by the night porter who showed us to our room and it was first class wit all the facilities required and after an exellent breakfast we checked out with no problems .I would recommed the Devils Punchbowl to anyone without hesitation.
Food was really good Tv only had 4 terestrial channels!
Lovely hotel in the middle of this pintoresque town with free parking facilities and spa (swimming pool, sauna, jacuzzi). Clean with no luxury but big and quiet rooms.
The hotel met my expectations in view of the room charges.Had it been more expensive we would have taken a different view. The staff were effecient and friendly. Our room had been recently refurbished but did not have any personal touches and was rather like staying in a travel lodge which did not meet with the idea that the hotel was in any way Georgian. The reception needs a complete make over and the owners need to decide what the decor is to be as there is not flow to the hotel. There was no sense of identity.
The bed had a nice firm mattress and a bath that filled it very qucikly with hot water. When we arrived at 2.30 pm we asked about bar food we were informed that we could order room service implying we could not order food at the bar at that time. We were told to pay straight away but we were never given a receipt. We were then informed where our room was when we got there it was a twin room that smelt damp with dirty walls. We asked to change rooms initially the receptionist tried telling me that we had booked twin rooms and they had no more rooms left in the hotel. We had not booked a twin room and I had the confirmation slip with me. The receptionist then changed our room to a more acceptable one. However when we went to take a bath there was lots of scum, the sink and taps, tiles were dirty. Bar v small not a tidy tidy area.
a comfortable stay in every way
Mainly the location. The Spa facilities were quite pleasant. The breakfast was very poor for the price paid. Only two fruits (grapefruit and prunes - not everyone's favourite), by 9.30 am they had run out of croisant (and no apology offered!), toast was grill it yourself on a very ancient toaster which took ages and the fried food was quite fatty. If you wanted a healthy breakfast you were out of luck!
Recption and staff were very good at addressing problems, of which I had two, rectified The fire alarm fell while having a bath and the ballast came raining down. On the third night I awoke very cold at 4 30 and ended up ahving a bath, , on returning to the hotel to retire it was mentioned and the duty manager turned the heat up for me and I had a warm nghts sleep. I did try to find the register the next morning it was not visible.
bed and shower were great room could do with a repaint/refresh
the location and ample free parking, but..(see below).. 1. the whole place could do with a good and thorough clean from the serving display in the restaurant to the lovely but very dusty staircase. Does the place have a housekeeper? Being old is no excuse for it appearing grubby. It could and should sparkle. 2. the room (no 3) was very noisy from the adjacent staircase, corridor and other rooms and especially from the street.3.Breakfast ending at 9am is unreasonably early except perhaps for businesspeople, the plus side is that the staff who, although they had cleared away -at ten past nine were sympathetic and found us some food.
