8.8 Excellent
Pros: Supper in The Green Room was excellent. The Gardens were beautiful and wonderful to wander, particularly after dinner
Cons: Breakfast, and particularly the coffee was disappointing after the dinner the night before. Also, with such lovely weather, it was a shame to eat in a room with no view of the gardens and with the lights on. And there was musak.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff exceptionally friendly, beautiful garden and a great spa and pool and we enjoyed our massages. We really enjoyed the formal restaurant and its tasting menu and opportunity to visit the kitchen. For quality of accommodation and hotel facilities considered it was money well spent and one of the best hotels we have stayed in. Free bike hire.
Cons: Thought the food and service at Greys Brasserie was good, but not exceptional. It was my girlfriend’s 50th birthday but apart for a happy birthday we received no other recognition. Perhaps it’s a special occasion for all guests who stay there! Make sure if you hire a bicycle pick one with gears! These are small points on what was a truly excellent stay.

Overview Reviews

7.1 Good
Pros: The pub was located in a beautiful village but with very limited mobile phone connection. The bedroom was very comfortable and quiet. The shower was good with basic shower and hair products. The hairdryer did not work.
Cons: Staff welcomed and showed me to my room that was comfortable and clean. The attention in the restaurant was very mixed with no personal attention. The evening meal was OK but the steak was tough and the cutlery could not cope with cutting the tough, overcooked meat. At breakfast the menu was varied but no staff attention to offer basic juice or offer a further coffee. The main breakfast was OK but was never offered any toast.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent base for visiting Westonbirt and surrounding area. Exceptional breakfast and dinner.
Cons: Nothing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Apart from the minor issue on breakfast as described below, everything else about the stay was simply splendid!! Many thanks to all the staff. I have stayed here before and would certainly stay again.
Cons: Breakfast was ok, but would have liked more choice for those who do not want a cooked breakfast. A continental type breakfast perhaps. Some fruit would be good and maybe more variety of cereals.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Helpful.. Couldn't do enough for you.. Food was superb and deserts.. Room was clean cosy comfortable.. All facility's to hand and a great shower
Cons: Nothing wrong... was all great we enjoyed our stay
7.5 Good
Pros: The bed was comfortable bed and the coffee machine in the room was a bonus.
Cons: The room was very small and warm. The Velux window was right above the bed head and when ventilating the room a cold draught dropped straight down making sleeping disturbed.
6.0 Good
Pros: Real ale was good Although our room was above the bar it was not too noisy Breakfast was good
Cons: Chicken for the burger was dry and overcooked Dinner service from the waitresses was good however the service from the kitchen was too slow Bathroom was on the small side Some staff could have been a bit more cheerful
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The surroundings ie. the village, very relaxing. Although a public house with outdoor seating (our room was just above) there was no rowdy noise and all was quiet by a reasonable hour. Huge parking area at no charge.
Cons: There was no hanging space in our room, which didn’t matter to us for two nights but someone else might have had clothes to require hanging. Also, no seperate lounge space. Had to wait quite a while on Sat morning for breakfast to get started. It apparently was a late start on Saturdays but nothing had been said beforehand.
7.9 Good
Pros: Excellent breakfast. Good for short stay when going to a wedding nearby.
Cons: Inability to get a drink after 11 despite being resident.
7.1 Good
Pros: Dinner was very good. Bed was very comfortable.
Cons: The manner of a certain member of staff, we checked in and confirmed our dinner booking, an hour later he didn’t remember us and asked what we wanted when we came back from a walk! My husband is quite memorable with his silver hair and beard! Service at dinner was poor. We were told that they were busy, that was fine but to be told, after quite a delay, that the chef was plating our food and 20 minutes later it arrived was not acceptable. Luckily the food was very good when it finally arrived. Toast at breakfast was the palest I have ever seen! Maybe more staff are needed in the kitchen!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A lot of thought had gone into this property refurbishment to facilitate a very high standard for quests When the bar is full of locals and the restaurant is full on a Wednesday it must be right
Cons: Nothing. It was excellent. Well done all.

Cons: The only thing we disliked was that fact we couldn’t stay longer!

8.3 Excellent

Cons: Not within walking distance to Tetbury.
7.5 Good
Pros: Good location and friendly attentive staff.
Cons: Room was a reasonable size, however it could have been in better condition, the carpet was worn and a little grubby. The bathroom could do with an extractor fan. A small point but the hook on the door was broken. The breakfast was good, although the initial supply of toast needed to be replaced as it was barely done.
8.8 Excellent

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Comfy bed, wonderful pillows. Superb shower with great accessories. Very friendly owners. Ideal location.
Cons: Nothing really.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Large room, comfortable bed, nice shower-based bathroom all modern and fresh. Even down to quality toiletries. Lots of space, right in the centre of this small quiet town. Parking right out the front. I'd certainly stay again, but Sherston is a little too far away from where we're working.
Cons: It's called a bed and breakfast, but breakfast cost extra. Sadly the coffee shop is closed and their restaurant is not open often, leaving just two local pubs for food during the week. Nearest one was okay for food though but nothing fancy in the town. Be useful to have some small fans for hot nights as most small hotels and pubs in the area do.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely breakfast. Good communication from host.
Cons: Was surprised there was no bar or cafe facilities open as pictures suggested of outside area. Staff member who checked us in didn't have a great attitude when asked about the closed facilities. Did not appreciate the third telephone call to check that I had booked the correct type of room beforehand.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Lovely room, everything we needed, very tidy spacious bathroom, very helpful and friendly hosts, lovely breakfast including gluten free options

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great location room size excellent staff great breakfast choices
Cons: Early checkin fee
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Short overnight business stay. Night staff friendly And helpful.
Cons: Breakfast buffet choice and quality could be improved. Fruit salad bowl sat empty without refresh for an hour. Hot menu good. Breakfast service basic with limited interaction from staff... eg. Plates taken away without asking how food was, offer of anything else. Check out basic service, didn’t ask how stay was, etc.
7.1 Good
Pros: The breakfast was good, if a little slow on the first morning and some elements of the buffet needed restocking. The second morning the cooked element arrived before we'd finished our first course! The staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was lovely.
Cons: Service in the restaurant at breakfast on the first morning was poor although the staff were very considerate. We felt the dinner starters lacked imagination but the main courses were good. Our room (Cosy) was really small and the en suite very cramped.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The salmon dish - catch of the day - on the first evening was very good although it took a long being caught!!
Cons: Given a top floor room when expecting one in the Coach House. This was rectified on request after the first night. However then had to ask for a second set of towels as only one put in the room. First afternoon on arrival the receptionist was a little surly but was more helpful later. Meal took ages to come on the first evening - waited 45 minutes + !!!! Next morning appeared to be short staffed in dining room as again took a while to be served. Decided to eat out afterwards.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The choice of breakfast.. Waitress was friendly enough... Bacon hard as had been sitting being kept warm... Also sausage hard prob for same reason... We liked the decor and the history of the building
Cons: Some of the staff We're a bit unfriendly .... The night porter was great though.. Very friendly and helpful... The others were a bit scripted didn't really feel their heart was in it... The room was up 2 flights of stairs as we were on the very top floor and as Im Disabled with bad knees and back.. found it very difficult to get up and down stairs with our small dog...the room was nice but a few stains on carpet... Also toilet didn't flush very well.. Needed to flush 4 or 5 times before it was clean ... Also some staff washing drying on a clothes horse this morning on the landing outside our room.. For £190 which we paid for our room plus £25 for our dog... I would have expected much better!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very clean, good quality linen and towels
Cons: N/A
4.0 Okay
Pros: Malmesbury is a nice town and the Old Bell Hotel is well located. The hotel has lots of character and the reception and bar staff are very helpful.
Cons: The breakfast was very poor, the cooked food was dry and over-cooked. The restaurant staff had to be constantly reminded to replenish tea, coffee, toast, the salt was empty, etc, etc; generally poor service. The rooms are tiny (not entirely surprising given the age of the hotel) but the bathroom was minute and the TV was mounted next top the bathroom door and you had to move the TV to get into the bathroom! Disappointed as I expected more.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Excellent staff. Good breakfast. Very clean room.
Cons: Bathroom was very small for the size of room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The atmosphere was really nice! At the end of the evening we hung out in the lobby bar (with comfy chairs and fireplace) with some other guests and had a really good time. The location, the centre of Malmesbury, was perfect. Good breakfast!
6.7 Good
Pros: The food was good and the staff in the restaurant were professional and attentive. It is a very historic hotel in a good location right next to the Abbey.
Cons: We had a room in the 'coach house', which was in the car park, we had to keep the blind down as visitors could look straight in as they parked their cars, so would not book that again.

Pros: Independent access with private parking. Clean, comfortable and spacious. Kitchen facilities were a bonus and very convenient. Dog friendly. Location great for dog walking and visiting Malmesbury. Owner very pleasant and offered advice on where to visit. Would stay again.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Had pre-arranged breakfast. very good indeed and brought to our very spacious room by the host. Well fitted Kitchen Excellent host with a masses of local and helpful information and tips re the town
Cons: Were a little surprised that the accommodation was via fairly steep external stairs, with no balcony to speak of, and quite limited views, however having breakfast brought up by the host was a bonus. The en-suite was quite compact.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Steve was very welcoming and provided information about our location and places to eat. The apartment was large and airy, minimally decorated and very clean. The kitchen had all the facilities you might need for a light breakfast or major evening dinner. The bathroom had an enormous shower and was clean. We enjoyed the ability to walk through the fields into Malmsbury.
Cons: Details say every room has balcony and view of the lake. The apartment has neither. Basin in the bathroom was way too small for washing without water all over the floor. Steve did not mention breakfast being available or any other aspects of the complex and we only saw him when we arrived and by chance on the night before we left.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The bed was comfortable David was very friendly and helpful, with good local knowledge.
Cons: The steps up to the apartment were a bit steep.
7.9 Good
Pros: Well equipped room. It was very clean. Owner offered to collect us from an event we attended nearby if taxi had difficulty. Very friendly owners. Good location.
Cons: Quite steep stairs to the room, not a major problem but could be for others.
9.6 Excellent
Cons: Communications difficult as there was no signal for our mobiles. Road works prevented access and very noisy workmen drilling new bridge.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Steve and Roberta very friendly helpful with where to eat with a dog and even gave us some rhubarb to bring hom
Cons: Nothing not to like about the property or the owners but it was a shame the bridge outside was being repaired but out of anyone's control it had to be done
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The appartment is outfitted thoughtfully. You will find everything you need for your stay. It's pretty, comfortable and sturdy at the same time.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I loved the guest house, it was clean and cosy. Had a lovely little kitchen. The host was really helpful, we were rushing to a wedding and he booked our taxi to and from for us. He made a fantastic breakfast in the morning and we had a nice chat over coffee!!
Cons: Absolutely nothing.

7.9 Good
Pros: Comfortable bed. Nice bedding and towels. Good breakfast helpful friendly staff.
Cons: Very dark gloomy decor. Difficult to read with light levels.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Diner was delicious I had the 'Specials' Pea and Bean Tortellini with a Buttery Sauce followed by the Elderflower and Gooseberry Trifle. Breakfast of Scambled Eggs on Toast was deliciously light and creamy . My room was a Twin in the Cottage, a sumptuous, comfortable bed along with natural bedding (I am used luxurious Wool bedding) and the room was cosy with a 'Chesterfield' type sofa. An excellent stay I will be staying again.
Cons: I believe Kettles are being puchased as I could not work the coffee machine. The paintwork was a little dark for my liking.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The staff were amazing and went above and beyond to help me resolve a problem involving some lost bags.
Cons: Coffee pot, shampoo and conditioner in the rooms would have been awesome!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Quaint old english pub/hotel in a beautiful part of England. Great value for money.
Cons: Trying to find it... signage maybe needs illuminating for the dark nights..
7.5 Good
Pros: The hotels atmosphere.
Cons: Having to carry my case up a flight of stairs.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent, very interesting property and great atmosphere in the evening. Excellent rooms different to your standard chain hotel world, trending colours and decor. Great food and presentation very good, again nice to have something different and well cooked, well done to all the staff. Thank you
Cons: Nothing lovely
9.6 Excellent
Pros: It was a very warm welcome, the room was clean and tidy, the food was amazing and the prices for it were absolutely fair. There were nice walks just around the corner and my dog was as welcome as I was. Familiar atmosphere and we were sad we had to leave. Definitely coming back!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic owners, friendly staff, fantastic food and ambiance, was a pleasure to dine there .
Cons: The coffee pod machine never worked but we discussed this but it wouldn’t stop me from going back ,nothing a kettle wouldn’t fix
10.0 Excellent

Cons: Nothing
6.3 Good
Pros: Excellent food and cosy bar with log fire. Warm comfortable room.
Cons: The constant traffic noise started at 4am which was surprising given its location but apparently the village is on a 'rat run'.
7.0 Good
Pros: Great breakfast!
6.3 Good
Pros: Very friendly staff, beautiful old coaching inn (and yes, has got some low ceilings which feature bumper pads), period decoration, but modern bathrooms
Cons: Shower was not quite powerful enough
6.0 Good
Pros: The location was very nice, with very nice old country style pub feel with a big burning log fire. The restaurant was very nice as well.
Cons: We asked for pepper sauce with our meal it did not come until we were well into our stakes, then they tried to charge us 50p extra for it!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Superb value - we enjoyed a very good meal in the evening.
6.0 Good
Pros: Well decorated and food was good.
Cons: Outrageous interpretation of cancellation of our first night that Wednesday afternoon for Friday night did not constitute 2 days notice as required - we were told it would need to be Tuesday!!! Due to the popularity of dining we had trouble getting a car park. Went to the bar at 5 past 11 and were told we couldn't get a drink, even as a house guest, as last orders were at 11pm. Breakfast not available on a Sunday morning until 8:30am.
5.6 Okay

9.6 Excellent
Pros: We only booked the night before and were not sure what to expect. The staff were really helpful, the atmosphere friendly and the food was gorgeous! We loved it and will definitely come again!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Love this friendly, rustic pub. Perfect for a walk in the arboretum and back to the pub for a delicious evening meal and comfy sleep in the 4 poster bed. Love the rainwater shower in the en suite. Dog friendly bar so we put our dog in the nearby Kennels overnight and picked him up again in the morning
Cons: Slight criticism: bed now feels a bit hard in room number 2 (mattress not quite as comfy as in room 1)
6.7 Good
Cons: No soap or hairdryer provided Water to shower was unavailable on occasion presumably because we were on the top floor.Rear entrance door lock needs attention, unable to open with key provided on 2 occasions. Staff could have offered assistance with handling luggage as there was not a lift to the top floor. V
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Located on the main road out of Tetbury towards Bath it was easy to find. I would not define it as a luxury hotel, but it is everything you need for a relaxing stay. Clean, quiet, friendly and excellent food and drink at a reasonable price. It's in a pleasant area with countryside views except for the adjacent industrial unit. There are nice gardens to walk around and fresh fruit and veg are grown which are used in their kitchens and home made produce.
Cons: View from our window at the rear was over the kitchen roofs, however beyond was ok with trees etc. The four posted bed looked great but was a bit wobbly, and although clean and comfortable we found the duvet a bit heavy.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Rustic, real ale and a real fire! Very welcoming and homely. Good food too and plenty of it!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff, great food and drink, cozy fire, lovely room super comfy 4 poster bed, lovely surroundings with nice walks around the camping field, would love to stay again
Cons: Nothing
7.9 Good
Pros: Staff and locals were warm and welcoming. The log burner was also fab.
Cons: Weather was not the best
6.3 Good
Pros: The location was lovely.
Cons: We had an awful sewer smell in the ensuite, we had to sleep with the extractor on all night, to try and take the awful smell away. It was so strong that you couldn't use the ensuite other than to quickly use the loo in the morning. We reported it at breakfast, but they didn't go and check it, just thanked us for bringing it to there attention, I suspect they were already aware of this problem. The room was warm, and the bed was reasonably comfortable, not worth the £100 for 2 people.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: very good full English great atmosphere. two excellent meals brilliant host and helpers
Cons: a room on the first rather than second floor - but we were late booking

Cons: Price
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent service and cooked to order breakfast. Very comfortable room and bed and our room was quiet and roomy.
Cons: Nothing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Brilliant rooms and staff Great breakfast and lovely food
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was perfect for a weekend break. Not over the top but a good, solid bar with decent food and good cider with lots of options of restaurants and pubs close by. We also did a great 10 mile walk.
Cons: It is a place to come and have a nice drink and meal and to use as a base for all the lovely countryside around it. It isn't a hotel to come and spend time at itself but that is not the point of it. I'm only writing this as this column is here. It is not a criticism.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: A very comfortable courtyard garden room
Cons: Lack of a dedicated hotel car park
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was good. Pleasant courtyard area, room was comfortable. Chairs and an occasional table made a big difference.
Cons: There were 2 down sides: 1. the en-suite - the basin was cracked, there was nowhere to hang clothes before showering and nowhere to put shower gel, shampoo etch whilst in the shower, and the shower head did not fit properly and changed position when the showere was turned on and off. 2. At 7am the kitchen extractor fan went on and whilst not noisy sent a vibration through the pillow and made it impossible to continue sleeping.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: I think our room was upgraded so that was a lovely surprise. Bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was great. Evening bar staff friendly, one of whom I believe was the manager. Great location if you need to stay in Tetbury for a wedding (the reason we were there).
Cons: Bit of noise carried from the courtyard to our room when the windows open. Not a massive issue.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The food was exceptionally good.
Cons: All was good
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were all excellent and the customer service fantastic - particularly as my mother has mobility issues and they did everything they could to make things easier including ensuring she had a ground floor room! The bar was welcoming and the breakfast had something for everyone! The rooms were very well equipped and absolutely stunning. A fantastic experience - we wish we could have stayed longer!
Cons: Nothing
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The bedroom was beautifully furnished
Cons: Breakfast served until 10.30

5.8 Okay
Pros: Warm welcome
Cons: Tv did not work on arrival hence no tv one day No hot water the following morning landlord said oh dear a faulty switch ( maybe he should of said faulty towers) On booking no information that the best room in the house ( so to say) was up a range of at least 40 plus stairs no lift no porter A real tourist trap lodgings
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast available was a good assortment, however the Bodkin full breakfast was plentiful and well cooked. Situated in a little village we visited local villages on leaving and found areas of immense interest. The evening meal was based on a steak night which could have included other meals but was palatable.
