guesthouse ayaguya - Hostel - Miyakojima - Building
1
9.5 Excellent (159 reviews)
Overview Reviews
When you stay at guesthouse ayaguya - Hostel in Miyakojima, you'll be within a 10-minute drive of Makiyama Observatory and Sawada Beach. The front desk is staffed during limited hours.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly and cozy guesthouse. Clean rooms, excellent amenities and extra offers. I love making myself a cup of coffee and sitting inside the living room or at the balcony to see and to feel the island of Irabu.
Cons: None.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Second time coming to this hostel, and will definitely come back. Yoshi-San is an amazing host. He does everything to make you comfortable, and at home. Comfortable beds, fully equiped with everything that you need and more!! You have a nice terrace to enjoy sunsets and sunrises. The common room is great for making new friends!! Thank you for everything again Yoshi-San !
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great guesthouse! The owner is very kind, helpfull and friendly. Beautiful property on a beatiful island. Would recommend to anyone, but note that car is needed to fully enjoy all the islands around.
Cons: That i didnt stay longer.
4.6 Okay
Cons: The owner is a strange guy with undisclosed rules that apply to different types of guests. I left my small carry on suitcase in the corner of a room where it was not infringing anyone and was yelled at by the owner when I returned to collect it and demanded I pay him 500 yen after I had a cup of tea. It's a real shame because the house is very beautiful and thoughtful, but the owner I felt was not friendly to foreigners.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A unique experience due to the owner's (Yoshisan) genuine and sincere hospitality (where else would you be greeted by a traditional song and be spontaneously invited to a culinary feast with nice, courteous other Asian guests?). The clean and sparkling house is beautifully conceived and designed, a clever blend of modern design and traditional features with an amazing esthetic taste and color schemes. Even if the rooms are small you can use the whole comfortable house and kitchen with a balcony overlooking the port. All around a quite village lost in time. We were very sad to leave, knowing this was a very special place and moment the memory of which we will cherish forever. Dear Yoshisan, thank you for this precious gift!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Yoshi is a very nice person with a very good heart. For exemple he will surely welcome you with a traditional song played with a local instrument he masters very well. He reacts very fast to any question or demand. The place is very well equipped, there is everything you could need to cook. Besides it is decorated with taste. There is lockers on every door and Yoshi offers to rent bicycles if needed.
Cons: Not very suitable for couple who wants a quiet and peaceful place (mainly due to wooden wall) even if the little town and the island where the guesthouse is located are very calm and quiet. It will be a perfect place for backpackers who would like to discover Irabu. Renting a car to enjoy the stay seems to be necessary because the place is quite far from the airport (30min by car) and every places of interests seems far to reach by walk or bicycle
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Yoshi-san was amazing! He helped me with anything I needed. He was always available and introduced me to many Japanese and Okinawan cuisine and culture. He sings great too!! Highly recommended!! I hope to come back soon!
Cons: Nothing!
Pension Ntsunaka - Miyakojima - Building
2
9.2 Excellent (54 reviews)
Overview Reviews
This is a relaxing accommodation run by a local big buddy.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: We liked the friendly, laid-back atmosphere, the well-equipped kitchen and the pretty garden. A very pleasant place!
Cons: No complains!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Traditional Japanese rooms with the possibility to leave the door open to fall asleep to the sounds of nature. The Staff is super friendly and very helpful. Bycicle rental is for free.
Cons: Some insects around the house, so maybe not recommended for hypersensitive people.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very comfortable and kindly, like sweet home.you can cook easy here, and enjoy to meet other friends.
Cons: Can't stay more days....
9.6 Excellent
Pros: This pension is a very comfortable corner in between the sugar canes. We really enjoyed cleanliness, the spacious and beautiful garden, the common areas and the maps showing the best spots. Moreover we enjoyed the homy feeling the owner and his son give to this place and the courious company of the other guests. We had a wonderful time and we'd like to stay there again one time.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The owners are really nice and made us feel at home immediately. They can also help with information about the island, where best to go snorkeling in the current weather conditions etc (at least if you speak some Japanese). Everything is spotless clean and well-equipped. The kitchen/living room is a nice place to meet other guests, watch TV, find information about the island, ... The location is in the middle of sugar cane fields, so very quiet and perfect for relaxing - a car is recommended anyway on the island. The garden is beautiful.
Cons: There is nothing not to like. The only remark is that the futon is a bit thin if you are used to European beds - but I think if you ask, you could get an extra one.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location is unique...it was so peaceful and quiet. Staff really nice and helpful. Classic japanese tatami bedroom. I just loved it. Beware...the place is isolated, either rent a car or be prepared for some serious biking, like 10 kms to the nearest best spot for snorkelling, of paved but hill road (staff provided me with a fixed gear bike, with front basket and all, so it was kinda hard on the way up). There`s a lonely beach just minutes away though. 15 mins of cycling to the nearest family mart. No other business near. At night there are not street lights and it gets daaaark (bike had a front light but it was not near enough. Be prepared, I wasn't and used my smartphone light). I covered the whole island, and I was exhausted but happy. You seldom see people on this side of the island, and an ocasional vehicle every now and then. But I put these under "likes", because that was what I was looking for. As I said, if you're not one for adventure, just rent a car. It's cheap for japanese standars. Taxi from the airport was also cheap, 1600 yens, 15 min ride. On the way back, the staff called a taxi for me. Staff speaks almost no english, but they were so nice.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: 5 Stars plus for Pension Ntsunaka! You have to stay here, if you visit Miyakojima! Completely peaceful, surrounded by sugarcanes with a magic garden, created with much compassion. The rooms and the guesthouse is maximum clean, You have all facilities you need, everything is best equipped and modern! The host is very caring neither with food advice and with whatever you need ! He is helping with all his hands! Although the rooms are not big, you have a feeling of vast space because there is a huge shared kitchen and Living room and the big garden where you can do barbecue ... we stayed there for 2 weeks and didn’t wanna leave...
Cons: Nothing!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The location was closer to some snorkeling beach but far away from city center. It is a new pension house and everything was really clean and tidy.
Cons: Noise and chats from guest next door could be heard easily.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very good food at the hotel!!
5.8 Okay
Cons: The hotel is trying to charge me extra fees three weeks after checking out and paying in full. The beach was off limits after 6pm and beach access limited at all times. This information is written in their Japanese site but not on the English version. No explanation was given at the hotel verbally or in writing. In addition, at check in, the clerk promised to contact me later about the breakfast tickets. There was no contact from staff at all. I stayed at this hotel two years before with my Japanese wife and had an excellent experience. This time, with my kids but without my wife, the experience couldn't have been more different.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Property located in an excellent beach, staff are friendly and bilingual
Cons: Mm perhaps the price, but considering the location of the resort, is not too bad ...

9.6 Excellent
Pros: super nice and considerate host; even walked me to the closest supermarket upon arrival and gave me some of his dinner, when I had ruined mine. tradtional tatami room on small Ikejima. since the main attractions are on the other islands, this small island is perfect to escape the crowds.
Cons: washing machine was extra. I survived my room-neighbour's loud snoring only with earplugs.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great place!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Yuri and Tetsu where really great and generous hosts. We were there at new years eve and they would show us some japanese traditions which was a great experience! After driving us to the east coast to see the first sunrise of the year we were invited to the new years lunch with some friends of them and could taste some great japanese food in a great athmosphere. In the night they made us Yutanpos (hot water bottles) which was also super nice! We would definitely recommend anyone to go there who wants to get an insight of a japanese household.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Best Option. You will get part of the family. Dinner was delicious and possibility to go snorchling with Tetsu. Additionally there is the option to rent a scooter or a bike from the hostel. Hostel in typical Okinawa style. I recommend this hostel.
Cons: Kurima Island is a little bit away from the main attractions however with car no problem.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: We enjoyed staying there as the owners were very friendly and the guests were very helpful too. We became friends and you can get local info from other guests about best spots and shops and so on .
Cons: More toilets
9.2 Excellent
Pros: - Great, cosy living room, getting together with other guests - spacy bedrooms with fridges - optional tasty dinner for a low price - awesome friendly and helpful staff!
Cons: - thin matraces - toilet shoes might need a replacement ;)
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Everything
6.7 Good
Pros: Nice friendly atmosphere. Good to meet other travelers. Location is good if you’re ok with being in small remote island. But you will absolutely need a car to make the most of the Miyako island otherwise you’ll be stuck.
Cons: Uncomfortable shared room: if you sleep below (in the bunk bed), each time the person above you moves a bit your bed will shake a LOT (not gentle). Strongly recommend sleeping in top bed (all taken when I was there as I was the last one, other lower ends empty). Need to pay extra to turn on air con in the room. Taxi to the city will cost you 2500Y.

Pros: Very calm. Good beds and bathroom. Location, near airport. Strip mall just across the street, with restaurants and supermarket. Breakfast buffet. Mostly Japanese, but Western sélections too.
Cons: No closet, drawers or shelves, so can't unpack. Difficulty communicating with desk staff, very nice but speaking almost no English. Local area info in Japanese only.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything is so clean, breakfast is great and location is just perfect
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: location is perfect, hotel is quite new
Cons: no electric bike rental
7.9 Good
Pros: Room is a bit wider than standard japanese hotels. Perfectly clean. Coin laundry, microwave and vending machines available. Location was ideal because you can reach any spot in miyakojima within 25min by car. Right in front of the hotel there's a mall and some restaurants.
Cons: Parking was 500¥ per day. I understand they make good money out of it but other hotels give you parking for free. Staff told me there was no free parking around the structure but I found plenty of parking spots where to leave the car even overnight. Room has balcony but I'd rather have a slight bigger room without balcony other than a balcony that i can't use not even to dry the beach towel as birds poop on it. Plus i saw some spider webs so I'd never open that window. Staff or cleaner tried to enter in my room (when the room has been already cleaned) but has i placed the lock they couldn't get it. So they left without saying anything or apologize. I'm sure it was just a mistake but it's never a nice thing.

Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby, a 24-hour front desk, and luggage storage. A roundtrip airport shuttle is complimentary (available on request).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice and helpful staff. Room is clean and tidy, particularly like the shower with bathtub in reasonable size, feel like having shower in the onsen! Though there is no convenience store nearby, the tuck shop inside the hotel closes at 10pm is a quick fix anyway.
Cons: Everything is perfect except there is no place to hang wet swimming suits.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Its location and bathroom.
Cons: The bed was too hard and it hurt both our back and necks. The swimming pool opens in very awkward hours so it is not very possible to use. The restaurants in the resort are also not in very nice condition. Many of them look fairly ordinary and serve ordinary food. They don't live up to a resort expectation.
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: Not much to like about.
Cons: it was very pricey. Unfortunately for us there was a typhoon and we got stuck in the hotel. Restaurants were very pricey. You need to have a car as there’s nothing around if you want to buy food. My flight was delayed because of the typhoon and management showed no empathy and charged us very high for additional nights. We couldn’t use the pool as they took a lot of time to clean it. My son got hit by a Japanese lady at the hotel and management did not do anything. A disgrace . I will certainly not recommend this hotel to foreigners. Staff do not speak English.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: We stay in the hotel during Typhoon 13 but we feel very safe. The information about typhoon and transport are updated. The staffs try their very best to arrange DIY, board games and even the Funky Flamingo band to sing for us. The breakfast buffet are super delicious with lots of choices and are different everyday. Highly recommended!
Cons: Not many staffs can speak in English but they try their very best to help. Much appreciated!

Pros: The host, Tarota San was a super nice guy. He let me borrow his bike and snorkel gear for free and made recommendations on what beaches to go to.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I loved the very traditional Japanese style of the place. The room was spotless and very spacious. It came with many facilities like air-con, fan and even separate dehumidifier. The property owner is the friendliest and most helpful person you will ever meet. He provided us with some great insight of Miyako and Japan. The location is very central and you can rent bikes to go around the island. Don't forget to try Body Balance service offered at a discount to the guests - it's fantastic! Would recommend to anyone and stay there again. This place offers more than you're looking for.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The house is nice, clean and well equipped. It is near the centre part of Miyajima Island but is quiet at night. The room is not too big but comfortable. Everything is great. You can borrow a bike to go to the place nearby. When you stay, you may try the massage of the host. It is amazing that fix your body problem and reduce various pains related. The treatment costs not too much but the result is great. I will stay again if I visit Miyakojima in the future.
Cons: Nothing at all.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owner is super friendly and helpful. He showed us around the island and gave tips on where to eat. He gave us snorkeling gear and there were four bicycles for us to use. The kitchen is fully equipped. There was coffee, tea and water for free usage. The shower and toilett are clean. Our room was spacious, clean and had a air-condition. The guesthouse is in a quiet area. A family mart, supermarket and restaurants are nearby. The beds and futon were comfortable.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: feeling of living in a local home, cozy
Cons: if you do not have a car and with a big luggage, it will make some effort walking from the main road to the entrance of body balance house
7.1 Good
Pros: Owner very helpful with all information and personal service. Collected me from airport exactly on time. Laid back and cool guy with assistance always ready to help.
Cons: Beds are very basic. No cotton sheets. For tall person feet hit against the bar. Mattress is not expensive time to invest.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice hotel and comfort
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Great breakfast, lovely and helpful staff, good location close to the airport and to the main town. You’ll need a car or moped to explore the Island properly
8.3 Excellent
Pros: I loved the view from the room, looking out over the harbor, with a nice table and chairs so that you can sit. The breakfast was really nice, and very helpful! There's a convenience store nearby, and the shampoo and body wash was fantastic...I actually would love to but the same brand for my home! Staff were mostly friendly. Check out time was nice and late! Free beach towels to use at the beach.
Cons: If you don't speak English, you might struggle to communicate with the staff. The 'pool' was tiny! I wouldn't even call it a pool to be honest, more like a large cold bath tub! The air conditioning was a bit weak - I was sweating like a pig within minutes of taking a shower (and I'm not a big man)!

Pros: small Japanese-style apartment with usual facilities : small kitchen, toilet, japanese bathroom, and including a washing machine ! also available : dish detergent, shampoo/shower gel, hand soap, washing machine detergent without forgetting there is a parking lot below the building 10min walk away from the "city center", not too far from a Family Mart (convenience store) and 100m away from Painagama beach check-in was fast and staff was helpful they also own the diving shop below
Cons: it is not a hotel, more like renting a small apartment the shop to get the keys (check-in) close at 7pm... better hurry when you have an afternoon flight (you cannot take the local bus as the bus will leave at 18:50 from SHI airport) it is on the first floor, on the right above the OK diving shop (take the stairs on the right side of the building) no towel given (not even hand towel) for the price per night, its a shame... but they are renting them for 500yen per day (which is way too much... ). I think this should be a given.
7.9 Good
Pros: big and nice washing machine. Bowl and dishes available so you can even cook yourself.
Cons: It is an apartment so don't expect any room service. We spent sometimes finding the check in place but found out it is in another building.
