10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was excellent with all home-made meats and sausages, mozzarella, cappuccinos taken in the garden. Everything was really perfect. The couple who run the property are excellent professionals, one of the best. Dinner were fantastic or as Roberto usually says "estrepitosas"!! The wine cellar very complete and above all with the Roberto's suggestions you enjoy the Tuscany wines so much. The views, the swimming pool, the little corners under trees to read a book, the meadow in front with fireflies, the dinners "al fresco",,,, to be honest, La Canonica is wonderful, it is a must to go!!!
Cons: Nothing, honestly I did not like nothing. This staying in La Canonica has been one of my best in life, truly!
6.8 Good
Pros: Kind people and quiet pool area and good music by dinner
Cons: No airco (we forgot) from the room we looked to a wall !bathroom oldfashionned and small Dinner to much salt..
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A picturesque and somewhat secluded jewel is La Canonica Di San Michele. Stephania and Roberto are wonderful hosts, thoughtful and fun. The food was truly amazing - breakfast, lunch/snack and dinner - cooked to perfection and served with warm hospitality! Joanna greeted us on arrival with a smile that warmed our hearts and together with Stephania and Roberto made our stay perfect in every way. We will be back!!!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location was excellent for a couple of quiet days after spending most of our vacation in busy Rome & Florence!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: A fantastic place in the middle of nature. An oasis of relaxation. It's the second time that I go to visit Canonica di S. Michele and it's always a pleasant surprise. Very nice welcome aperitive, very nice food, amazing view and walks.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location, rooms, pool and garden were just perfect. The real added value is in the hospitality: the hosts are just amazing. They pay attention to every detail and they also cook very well. Lunch and dinner are available upon request. Breakfast, typically included, is also great.
Cons: The matress were too soft for my personal taste. But this might just be a personal issue.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owners were so hospitable and friendly in spite of our late arrival, could not have been more welcoming! The house is quirky with comfortable beds and lunch was simply delicious.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect treatment,it was great!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely superb. Beautiful spot, Stefania and Roberto were perfect hosts. Great food, pool, views.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was a lovely and beautiful place. The host's gave us a warm welcome and we're felt like home from the first minute. Despite some other comments they speak excellent English, the service was better than in the most 5 star hotels we have been to. Welcome drink, always fresh flavored water at the pool, some fruits in the afternoon and some appetizers to the wine we ordered. The choise of wine was excellent. We stayed 2 dinners and got an excellent menu and wine recommendation from Roberto. The fish and gambas were awesome. Beautiful garden and pool, an unforgettable view over the land. Rooms clean and a very good breakfast. We're can not imagine to find a better place for our holidays.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, very nice hosts and staff. Amazing breakfasts in the garden with breathtaking view to Tuscan hills right next to vineyard belonging to the villa. The apartment with two bedroom was very spacious and clean as well as kept nicely cool even without needing to use the air-conditioning system. We also enjoyed the pool that also made our stay very relaxing and fun. We had the best vacation ever at Fattoria il Colombaio and certainly plan to stay again if around Tuscany.
Cons: Ther was absolutely nothing we didn't like
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Extremely helpful and friendly owners. The breakfasts were excellent as was the room and the location. I would definitely return and would highly recommend Il Colombaio
Cons: Everything was perfect.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: All! Great location and view, very nice hosts. Wine was perfect. Simply a perfect relaxing vacation!!!
Cons: All was great. Only thing we missed was a coffee machine in the apartment. (We had apartment with kitchen).
8.8 Excellent
Pros: This was an exceptionally beautiful property, in a very central Tuscan location. It was not isolated, but secluded, and so quiet and relaxing. The pool was such a bonus on the hot afternoons. The breakfast was sumptuous and with lots of variety each day and day to day. My check in process was smooth and easy. I felt like I could really unwind and also use it as a place to explore Tuscany.
Cons: The furnishings in the room were a bit... antique, and the beds could have been a bit more comfortable.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Pool area and views
Cons: The air conditioning didn't really work so the rooms were quite hot at night
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The owners and staff at the property were excellent, very helpful, let you relax and were always available for anything you needed. The room we stayed in was quite basic but I include this in the ‘like’ section as I didn’t see anything in the area that was modern and we liked the traditional feel (after all it is a converted farm house). It’s minutes away from major road networks but you’d never know this and it’s part of it’s ideal location. The pool area is one of its gems, very clean, very relaxed with an infinity view to one side right over the vineyard and into the rolling hills in the distance. Now to the wine. I’m a Red drinker and the Chianti classico was amazing. Whilst we were there the temperature was almost 40 degrees so we fortunately had a lot of the Toscano Bianco which is perhaps the best White I’ve ever had and I would highly recommend. The Monteriggioni castle is stunning and has 3 or 4 restaurants that are all very good. The hotel recommended one in particular that’s well worth trying, the Campari Spritz are really good.
Cons: I don’t really want to say anything negative as we had an amazing time celebrating our anniversary but the only two things that could’ve been better was the shower and the air conditioning.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Owner Marco very nice and hospitable. Beautiful location excellent rooms highly recommend… Great breakfast… Would definitely go back
Cons: The availability of cheeses, grapes, tomatoes etc. to go with wine in the late afternoon or evening's would be a very nice touch and not too expensive for the owner to maintain

10.0 Excellent
Pros: All was as we expected
Cons: The mattresse we’re beginning to be soft
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location in the foothills of Tuscany amongst olive trees with a tranquil courtyard, exactly how we imagined a tuscan homestay to be. Staff were all so pleasant and very professional, breakfast was amazing with a great variety of food and fresh fruit. We ate both nights at the restaurant based on the property and found the food to be of top quality and good value for money with very professional servers. We found this the perfect location to drive around the Chianti region to various wineries.
Cons: The only issue we had was that mattress was very uncomfortable/worn down, definitely needing an upgrade.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful and quite location. Very competent staff. The restaurant serves a fantastic dinner. The breakfast is far over the normal Italian standard
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The air conditioning was a life saver as was the pool. Loved that it was shaded instead of in full sun like most hotel pools. Great internet. Peace and quiet.
Cons: The bumpy drive in.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The staff were incredibly helpful and welcoming. The rooms were spotless and of high standard. The bed was the most comfortable I’ve ever slept in!!
Cons: The pool is a little far from the hotel and doesn’t invite you to sit and relax alongside it
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful property. Comfortable and clean.
Cons: Restaurant was a little overpriced for what you get. But staff were lovely and accommodating
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Nice spacious room. Breakfast! Park like area close to house.
Cons: Rough sandy, stoney unpaved country track road to location. Swimming pool a bit far from main building with no restrooms there.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Loved the location and seclusion it provided, the pool area was great, extremely clean. Room very comfortable. Super breakfast.
Cons: There were no major issues at all, just a few niggles - we stayed 4 nights and our towels weren't changed during that time, we assumed they would have been changed once, but we didn't raise this as an issue as we managed okay. The road to get to the property is good in some places but dreadful in others and could impact on car tyres and suspension which would be a major problem with a hire car agreement / return. Wasn't too happy about being charged extra for a plain omelette / scrambled egg when boiled eggs were available, so didn't understand why we'd be charged. None of these things ruined our stay a we loved the venue.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent breakfast! Great location!
Cons: Wish we had time for a walk or bike ride in the surrounding area

Pros: Great hotel in superb location. An oasis of calm...the pool and garden were so relaxing during hot weather and ideal for aperitives. Enjoyed breakfast al fresco - superb choice. Staff were all so friendly and helpful. We stayed during the Medieval festival - was great fun and the hotel was brilliantly located for this.
Cons: All was excellent.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The people who own and run the hotel are just lovely friendly and helpful people. They want you to enjoy your stay. The hotel is perfect as a location if you are intending to get out and about or attending an event close by. Martina we found to be absolutely delightful and lovely company. It is a small boutique style hotel and although there is no in-house dining (aside from breakfast) there are numerous options just outside the front door. All facilities are spotless gardens are nicely maintained, patio dining area is clean and very pretty. All in all nothing to fault
Cons: Although we had no issue with anything there was a festival on overv3 days that restricts vehicular access which can makes things awkward moving bags etc. otherwise no faults
10.0 Excellent

Pros: Perfect location, friendly staff, great breakfast, clean room. The hotel in Toscana where we will come again for sure!!!
Cons: Everything was perfect
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautifull house in rural location. Good breakfast and stunning views of surrounding hills. Weather was terrible so did not get to use the pool facilities, however looked lovely.
Cons: No restaurant amd local restaurant in the village (5 minute walk) was closed on nights we were there even though staff told us it would be open. Had to then get back in the car to drive to next town. You should consider this whrn booking as it is not centrally located.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff, 10 out of 10, the pool, the room, everything! We have never slept so well in our lives
Cons: It was difficult without a car and limited taxi service and no buses but the staff exceeded all expectations by how helpful they were and we were able to get out and about.

Cons: Lunch Menu was really lacking. Thank god there is a restaurant down the road.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The property was awesome. Lovely views everywhere. Very peaceful. Big rooms. Nice Pool. Good Breakfast. Extremely helpful staff. Special thanks to Teresa for guiding us for the tours and helping us out with food arrangements. Had an amazing stay at CastelBiggozi
Cons: There are only 2 restaurants near the property and the better one closes by 3 pm. So dinner is a problem without a personal vehicle
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Amazing location. The hotel also has a nice swimming pool overlooking the countryside. Staff are really nice.
Cons: Our room was a bit noisy: the refrigerator and the lamps were making strange sounds and there was a beeping sound coming from the garden outside. Breakfast could be improved - it would have been nice to find homemade pies and cookies, which are usually offered in similar hotels in the countryside.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, great staff, superb breakfast and big pool with sunloungers&umbrellas. Very nice and peacefull atmosphere, olive trees all around you...

Pros: The host family went above and beyond on all fronts. We were doing a hiking holiday, as their property is remote they offered us a lift from nearby Poggibonsi, and offered to take us to Siena the next morning. They were incredibly welcoming and the property itself was very clean and comfortable with a good breakfast provided.
Cons: Location not ideal if walking, overcome by welcoming family.

9.5 Excellent
Pros: This is truly a beautiful place, great facilities, a lovely garden and very welcoming and friendly staff. Definitely a place to recommend.
Cons: The airconditions (3) in the rooms probably need cleaning or to be changed as we all woke up with cloughed throuts the first mornings until we turned them off. This was not due to the aircondition/cold air as we stayed on several different facilities along the trip. We rather kept the windows open.
10.0 Excellent

10.0 Excellent

B&B In Piazza - Monteriggioni - Bedroom
8
8.8 Excellent (264 reviews)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I liked everything about this place. Federica was very open and approachable, if I had any problem I could send her one message and I'd have a reply within the hour. The room was above expectation and there was so much space despite being beautifully furnished.
Cons: I wish I could have stayed even longer. I have nothing bad to say about B & B in Piazza or Federica.
6.3 Good
Pros: The town and location
Cons: We called the owner before 5 pm as we were walking to Monteriggioni and we were late We arrived before 7 pm. No check-in was done and the manager asked to leave a copy of documents (we have not sent them yet) She required us to leave the payment of the local taxes and the keys in the room. Note that the building door was always open, and cannot be closed at all. No security service was on. We asked to anticipate the breakfast, The manager offered to give us better rooms instead to refund the breakfast fee. We refused. Note that the information that the breakfast was available (perhaps) after 8:30 in the morning was on evidence only after we paid. In the morning we had breakfast in the nearest bar, paying ourselves. At 8:29 The manager Federica Maini arrived just when we were leaving and when we said we were not happy about hospitality and service she has been very rude with multiple personal verbal offenses. She made allegations that we did not want to pay local taxes. So we were forced to go back to the rooms to show the money we had left, The manager refused to leave a receipt about that. When we were leaving, then she was having arguments with another guest.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: We started walking at 05:00 AM and the host provided "early" breakfast at check-in. Host was very accommodating
Cons: No option to cancel reservation long in advance. One of the most expensive accommodation while walking the Via Francigena.

Pros: Location. Nice accomodations, not fancy but comfortable.
Cons: Toilet seat was broken. Everything else was okay.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Good location on the Via Francigena and just steps from restaurants. Federica was very helpful at all times.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The lack of security in the place was disconcerting as we came in the afternoon after walking from san gimignano and finding our luggage in the middle of the entrance corridor open to the all town. The B&B is managed from the owner that leaves outside of town, hence the front door left open to all. The room was great overlooking the piazza' breakfast was very good.
Cons: Security
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff was awesome
Cons: All good

Villa Montecastello - Monteriggioni - Building
11
9.6 Excellent (13 reviews)
Overview Reviews
The Villa Montecastello is a luxury Agriturismo that has been immaculately renovated to offer its visitors an authentic and unique experience in Tuscany. Located one hour south of Florence, the Villa is surrounded by olive groves, with vineyards and nature reserves at its base. Originally a fortress, Villa Montecastello is located on an ancient road known as La Francigena in the town of Monteriggioni. Its hilltop location has been the stopover destination for many pilgrims, soldiers and merchants long before today’s owner, Jens Schmidt, decided to revive the art of hospitality in this 1000 year old hamlet between Siena and San Gimignano. The stunning views from the hilltop Villa and the silent surroundings of Montecastelli welcome our guests, while cultural and culinary destinations are reachable within a 15 minute drive. Located in the heart of our olive oil producing organic farm, the Villa is surrounded by the beauty of silver-green olive trees, mingling with the aromatic bushes of rosemary, lavender, jasmine and more. Geared to the food and wine lover, Jens Schmidt, proprietor and architect of Villa Montecastello, will personally welcome you to his home and share his vast knowledge of local culture, food and Italian wine varietals. As a renowned wine expert, Jens can lead you through extensive wine tastings and will help arrange tours to wineries, private cooking classes and share insider secrets like where to find all the best antique and food markets. In most seasons you can buy Tuscany’s best olive oil, Primo Olio, which is made right at our farm, enjoy fresh organic produce from our garden, sample Villa Montecastello's homemade prosciutto and salumi or gather fresh eggs from our own hens, all without leaving the Villa. You can book a privately catered dinner using our farm fresh ingredients, or schedule a pizza night cooking outdoors in our 1000 year old pizza oven. If you are tired of gourmet food and world class wines, you can always walk or mountain bike over the hill to the Astronave, our local trattoria, opt for a pizza at Indios in the neighboring town of Colle Val d’Elsa, or we can book a massage treatment for you in our own poolside facility. From the back terrace of Montecastelli, you will have a view of the rolling mountains of the Montagnola, Tuscany’s green lung and nature reserve, offering well marked hiking trails where one rambles to discover rare birds, wild boars, porcupines, porcini mushrooms, wild orchids, chestnuts as well as the occasional truffle. We take care for making every detail of your stay memorable, so that Villa Montecastello will be the perfect home base for your Tuscan adventure. At Villa Montecastello, we invite you to immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of nature, eat to your heart’s content, and soak in the sprawling views of the Tuscan countryside with a glass of Prosecco in hand. Pros: So nice and pretty and great perfect stay thanks a lot !
10.0 Excellent
Cons: There was no one at reception when we got there and not even some instructions on how to contact someone or how to proceed for the check in which was quite frustrating. Besides that particular situation checking in, the place was just marvellous.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: This beautifully restored 'fort' is an agriturismo (working farm) that operates at a very high level. The host, Jens, is incredibly knowledgeable about local history, culture, architecture, and agriculture. The products and services are superb. The surroundings are beautiful and peaceful. A visit here is highly worthwhile.
Cons: Signage is sparse and you'll probably lose GPS before arriving as we did; try to arrive in daylight, so you can arrive more easily and enjoy the gorgeous views.

Pros: Homemade breakfast upon request every morning. It was sublime and very authentic. There were several options and a variety of breakfast suitable for whatever someone might be looking for.

5.0 Okay
Cons: The restaurant is closed. So they offer to take you to a Castel in a van to eat at the friends restaurant. The menu is complicated to understand but the food is okay. We got told that when we finish we tell the waiter and the van picks us up to take us back. I was very annoyed as they did not come until a long time later. The streets are very dark. We where worried that we had fallen in a guet-apens. Like who fancies getting mugged in holiday!

8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very historic building. My room was big and unique.
Cons: Nothing to see other than the historic building. Poor internet
6.8 Good
Pros: Located right on the Via Francigena it was a welcomed sight! The monastery was an interesting building. The owner and staff were very helpful, but not on the premise for most of the day. They turned on the heat for us as it was wicked cold.
Cons: The receptionist is not in premises until after 3, in fact no one is. We wanted to leave our backpacks and continue in to The historic center and had to wait an hr for someone to show up. There is a restaurant but closed for breakfast and on Mondays and Tuesdays and without a car no other place for food. The wifi did not work at all.
6.8 Good
Pros: Unique location.
Cons: Beautiful cloister but the beds are poor, no breakfast or coffee no Wifi.

Cons: Renovations seemed incomplete at the time we stayed. Heating didn’t come on

Pros: Personal was really kind. And everything with this accomodation was good, big room, big bathroom with toilet. Equipment was realy simple, but you actualy dont need nothing more. It was wheelchair accesible room.
Cons: There wasnt trash bin in room, only in bathroom. It is situated in really small village where is not much opportunity what to do, or places where you can eat.

Cons: The bed wasn’t very comfortable and the air conditioning wasn’t very effective.

4.3 Okay
Pros: Tuscany is Lovely Grounds would have been lovely in 1980’s but shabby now The pool looked nice but too cold to contemplate
Cons: CASH ONLY ACCEPTED- unapologetically NO WiFi in ROOM- unapologetically Holes in sheets Holes in towels Air con looked ON but it was NOT Spartan in appearance Had to ask for extra blankets- none in room Nothing in room except for a bed and totally empty cupboard. Ie. No kettle or tea/ coffee etc. There was a safe but not sure if I would trust it. No attempt at communication for non Italian speakers AT ALL The rating doesn’t reflect- should be a 2, not 4.2 Avoid this one, go elsewhere
3.3 Mediocre
Cons: Rooms have very little comfort and are not very clean. The staff speaks no English.. I could go on.. Although here on booking it says card payment accepted, at the "Hotel" they only take cash payment... we had to drive with the owner for 25 mins to the ATM to give him cash for the nights that we stayed at the "Hotel"..
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Awesome room with batchtube in the middle:) We really enjoy our stay, autumn magic Tuscany at its best:)
7.5 Good
Pros: The staff was very friendly, the room and toilet big, the garden full of space and the pool generous. Breakfast was also good for an Italian one. It was super quite and clean!
Cons: We always spend around 20’ (by car) only on the way to arrive there inside the forest, the room was cold and the hitter didn’t work, as the shower in the last day had also not hot water.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: We loved the position, all you could hear in the morning were the birds singing. Despite previous comments, we loved the breakfast, a good variety. The apartment we had was really spacious, although I could see it might be a bit cool. When we arrived they had a fan heater on in our room so it as toastie, it had been a particularly cold May until the day we arrived. Pool was kept clean and good quality beds around it, although pool was a bit cool. We ate in the hotel 5 times and the food was really tasty. Loved the fact that we had a sun terrace and after the first day the staff brought u a couple of sun loungers which were much appreciated.
Cons: The gardens were a little unkempt (but in some ways in added to the charm) A comfortable sofa in an apartment would heave been appreciated

Pros: Terrific food (although little choice) and great staff
Cons: The bank card machine was not working and the photos on the booking site are more glorious than the reality
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The property itself and the nature around it it’s amazing when you wake up and you can hear only birds . You should definitely visit it during the season when the pool is functinal .
Cons: The breakfast was great , but it would be amazing if there were more options for the dinner at the property
