1
9.5 Excellent (120 reviews)
Overview Reviews

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Our stay at Shioriya was really exceptional. The staff is super friendly and willing to help with every possible question you might have. They went out of their way to make sure we were having a great time. Breakfast wasn't included but they offered coffee and a little snack in the morning. They made our stay in Nagano much more interesting than we could have hoped. I highly recommend to stay at Shioriya, this will be an experience you never forget! Thanks again for the great stay and all of your help :-)
Cons: The hotel is a bit difficult to reach, but we knew this upfront. However, there are supermarkets and restaurants nearby. I would advise to hire a care so that you are flexible to visit the area.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful hosts, interior, architecture and facilities.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We really did enjoy sitting together with our hosts and talking for a few hours - despite a certain language barrier (limited English only), they helped us plan our trip, found out about a soccer tournament to visit (our son is a soccer fan), and some small talk. We especially had lots of fun trying a newly acquired "pocket translator", an electronic gadget translating spoken English/Japanese which had some very creative translations on hand... There are several restaurants and supermarkets within walking distance, however, no public transport to speak of. Our hosts sent us to the local railway station (Shinonoi) and picked us up on return several times.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Really nice couple hosting you in a beautiful place. Rooms are spotless and very comfortable. Hosts are very nice and really want you to feel good and it works. They gave me tips and ideas for what to do while I was in Nagano. Whether you plan a ski trip or enjoy Nagano and it’s surroundings it’s the place to stay.
Cons: It might be a little challenging if you don’t know you way around Japanese public transportation system (accessible by bus from Nagano central station) to get there but the hosts gave me a ride to the closest train station in the mornings and this was really appreciated
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had an enjoyable and memorable stay, thanks to the wonderful hosts. They were super helpful and very generous with their time, making great suggestions for places to visit, restaurants and shops. The room and the entire guesthouse is exceptionally clean, well-designed and spacious. The breakfast is healthy and delicious. Great location in a quiet, homely neighborhood with a beautiful view of the Alps.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Our host were super nice! Couldn’t ask for better! They were really welcoming and made us fell like home! The house is really beautiful! Still traditional but in a very modern way. It was the best accommodation in our trip!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owners were very welcoming and very generous during our stay, giving us snacks to take on our days out and random gifts for no other reason than to be friendly. The accommodation was exceptional, with tatami mats, futons and that traditional feel that we were looking for. The laundry has the latest appliances, one touch and our clothes were washed and dried. I can't speak highly enough of the whole experience. And when you are in the area, Sanada house and the surrounding old samurai houses were highlights of the holiday, far better than any of the better known attractions. And for some reason, we were the only people about.
Cons: There was nothing I didn't like.

Pros: A very beautiful hotel with a wonderful atmosphere. Superb staff that were always helpful, and delicious breakfast. Beautiful views to the mountains from hotel room. Great location for ski and sightseeing around Hakuba!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Helpful staff with good shuttle services. Very spacious room. Good Christmas feeling with such wooden log design features.
Cons: Not very convenient, only a soba restaurant nearby. Quite some walk to main road. Sound proofing not great as we keep hearing party noises from people next door. Hotel should have a check on such noise and help to maintain the experience of other guests.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Really cozy place. Good location. Helpful and lovely staffs. Definitely go back there!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely amazing rooms, very private and cosy! The staff are some of the most wonderful and kind people we’ve ever met! Couldn’t thank them enough for the excellent hospitality they provided us with. The 2 waitstaff in the restaurant were only very young, one still in high school, but were so manner able and very easy to talk to, they made us feel very welcomed. Our host at reception when we initially got to the accommodation was very helpful, and went above and beyond to find out any information that we needed! We never expected this at all, but anytime we wanted to go somewhere, we were offered a lift, whether it be shopping, to go for lunch on our first day here, to the shuttle bus meeting point and to and from the Hakuba station. Nothing seemed to be an issue, and all service came with a huge smile and lovely personalities. We couldn’t recommend The Reposer any more than what we have in words, we would stay here every time we visited if we could.
Cons: Everything was perfect. Can’t fault anything at all.

Also the owner Shin responded quick to inquiries and had some extra tips up his sleeve, thanks for that! Just make sure to buy the snow monkey pass before going to the accommodation it Safes you some extra cash. The bed was really comfy.

Pros: The staff was incredibly helpful and very nice, we had a great time staying there over Christmas 2019.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Was a great social place to stay, small but just enough room. When we arrived we got given some green tea (I think) and some candies nuts. 10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly and helpful staff! Home away from home with super comfortable beds. Great coffee!
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff is super nice and always up for helping you. They have many recommendations of what to do in the area. The atmosphere is great, nice common area to meet up with other travellers. They have a lot of bathroom products (even facial wash and other) so no need to bring anything.
Cons: The shower room is pretty cold in winter. There is a heater that starts working when it detects movement, but it doesn't get warm fast (water is warm though). The kitchen is rather small and only has one stove which is not ideal when you're on a budget and want to cook.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everyone was so nice and very helpful, great atmosphere and very close to the temple. Easy to catch transport. Amazing place to stay!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. She very patiently explained from 1 to 10 the locations nearby and how to get around, and we had a nice chat after I checked in also. The room was clean and reasonably comfortable, but was slightly cold even with the heater on when I stayed there during the winter.
Cons: Erh... the location was a little too far by walking from Nagano station if u are going to travel out from Nagano through Nagano station during your stay, but otherwise great if you want to go around Nagano town and visit Zenkoji.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were so helpful and friendly, and provided so many great recommendations for everything from itineraries to local foods at restaurants. The hostel was extremely clean and cozy, and conveniently located within the city and close to bus stops.

7.0 Good
Pros: The room had every amenity I needed. It was very comfortable. Location was fantastic, very close to the train station and a lot of good restaurants.
Cons: It was tiny, but made good use of the space. It's a little bit difficult to move about when other guests are in the room though. 3 of the 4 beds in the dormitory room were occupied and it felt very crowded
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Welcoming and a kind host. Kitchen facility available.
Cons: Small room.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The location of the property is perfect. Around 5 minutes from the station. Also the staff is amazing. I arrived super early and I could fresh up and leave my bags in the accommodation until check in time. The accommodation was extraordinary clean! Everything is really orderly arranged and comes with instructions so you know how to use everything. And provided a lot of extra supplies like hairdryer, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, even face cleaner and detergent. The owner really makes sure that you feel comfortable.
Cons: Not really negative (!) just good to know beforehand. The room I was staying in, had the shower and kitchen inside the same room. That is great if you travel with a group of friends as it is like a small apartment but if you stay with strangers it might cause some noises especially if you want to sleep early. But the owner makes sure to give instructions to not use after 11PM. The one thing I missed was a common area where you could go and sit without disturbing others.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Good value. Nice simple kitchen. Heater in the restroom. Host is nice.
Cons: Space somewhat small.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, just a short walk from Nagano Station and a block from the main street leading up to Zenkoji Temple. The proprietor was very accommodating. Although compact, the room had everything one needs for a short stay. Very comfy pillows and thick soft towels. As with everything in Japan, there was quite a lot packed into a small place.
Cons: Not a lot of space to move around in but a great home base to leave your gear and go exploring. The wooden bunks were very noisy when there was any movement due to creaky planks.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: My friends and I shared a 4 person room in Aun Guesthouse. The host was very accommodating and allowed us to check in early. The place was clean and comfortable. The showers were equipped with amenities such as towels, shampoo and body wash. There was also closet place to hang our coats, jackets and also store our luggages.
Cons: -
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The property feels like it was an apartment converted into a room with two sets of bunkbeds, which I thought was pretty neat. The room itself is accessed via narrow stairs, and has locks to which you'll be provided the keys. The owner was very friendly and his English was pretty good. The house rules were available in English too. The beds were quite soft, but not ideal if you like a firm mattress, and each bed had curtains which made it quite private. The room had a small stove top and cooking utensils. Tea and hot water were available too. The shower is inside the room but closed off by a curtain for privacy.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location (just a couple of minutes from the Nagano Station and Don Quijote, 20 from Zenkoji, tons of ramen bars around), very friendly and kind host, small, but cozy room that offered extra utilities like a kettle, electric stove, microwave, fridge, heater... loved my stay there!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The owner was so kind! Our bus to Nagano was delayed and he was willing to wait for us to check in around 21:30.
Cons: The room was quite small. It’s pretty hard to find space to open our luggage.

Pros: Everything was so nice. An old couple that met us. The personnel. The house which is about 150 years old, the room with perfect traditional design . Tokonoma with an old painting. The old traditional tea cups. We experienced wearing traditional home dress as well. The location close to the Zencoji temple where we attended a colourful festival was very fitting. We liked the hot onsen in the evening and breakfast in the morning. This is a greatest place for the amateurs of traditional japanese culture.

Pros: A lovely ryokan. The staff were outstandingly friendly and helpful. The room was spacious, with a garden view. Our private bathrooms as spotlessly clean and supplied with high-quality ammenities. The men’s bath was superb. Dinner was a succession of beautifully-presented seasonal dishes, a feast for the eyes as well as being varied and delicious. Breakfast was on a smaller scale, but still plentiful, delicious and thoughtfully prepared and presented. A wonderful experience!

Also the owner Shin responded quick to inquiries and had some extra tips up his sleeve, thanks for that! The location is super close to the Hongō station and easily accessible from Nagano main station. Just make sure to buy the snow monkey pass before going to the accommodation it Safes you some extra cash. The bed was really comfy.
