Gasthaus Weingut Stahl - Oberwesel - Bedroom
2
9.5 Excellent (170 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Gasthaus Weingut Stahl in Oberwesel, you'll be within a 10-minute drive of Falkenau and Pfalzgrafenstein Castle. Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services and a safe deposit box at the front desk. Free self parking is available onsite.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This was the best place we stayed on our trip. The family Stahl were AMAZING. We had biked/cried/climbed the monster hill to get to their place and were exhausted. They welcomed us with open arms, carried our things in, and expedited check in so that we could shower and still order food before the kitchen closed. Throughout the stay, everything was wonderful. The breakfast was delicious, fresh, and homemade. The neighborhood was beautiful, too. Highly recommend to all drivers and bikers (but only the ones more athletic than we were).
Cons: This place is built on top of a hill. When they say Rhine Valley, well, this is not the valley. This is the nice hill overlooking the valley. So, lovely bike rides down the hill. Less fun climbing back up the hill. Still, the scenery was gorgeous and I think we'd do it again, we liked it THAT much.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: They served an exceptionable breakfast. The coffee was delicious and a variety of home items served. The lady gets up at 4:00 AM every morning to bake what is served and the staff treats you like Family.. Everything was amazing!
Cons: Everything was perfect!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic breakfast and dinner. Really enjoyed the wine tasting in the cellar. Many delicious wines
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great welcome, spacious rooms. But so much more important at this establishment was the food. Dinner was delicious and pleantyful. I defy anyone to attempt two courses. Breakfast was exceptional, several tables were laid out with a vast choice of food. I really couldn't do it justice after having dinner.
Cons: Perfect, no problems at all.

Pros: Wonderful Gasthaus. The breakfast was one of the best we’ve had at a hotel. Dinners were great too and all the staff were very friendly.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved absolutely everything about our stay at Gasthaus Weingut Stahl. The location is wonderful - away from all the train noises in the villages along the Rhine. Our rooms were fantastic, and were spotlessly clean. The bathrooms were modern and well equipped. Breakfast was simply amazing, and Krista, our hostess, kept forcing us to try her home-made cakes (for breakfast!!). We ate dinner out on the deck both nights and thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Paul serves his brother's wines, and encouraged us to head down to the cellar for tastings. We could not fault this hotel, and would heartily recommend it. It would be best to have a car if you are staying there however.
Cons: Nothing
8.0 Excellent
Pros: We were given a warm welcome and shown to a lovely large room which was very clean. The hotel is a lovely mix of old and new. The Bedroom we had was fresh and modern, while the dining room was more in line with a old traditional Farm House. The evening meal was excellent but the breakfast was exceptional. Huge variety of friut cakes savories both hot and cold. We cannot fault this guest house. full marks

6.3 Good
Pros: Interestingly the school was transformed into a hotel. Tasteful and comfortable. Overall hotel fresh.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: * The friendly and attentive receptionists and other employees. You could see they enjoyed their work! We only booked for one night and asked if we could stay another night, because on the internet evertything was fully booked. About an hour later the receptionist called to say we could get another room (with extra terrace) for the same price. The next morning his colleague already knew who I was (don't know how) so I didn't have to explain everything again and we got the card of the new room which was already ready to use; * The breakfast was very good and the surroundings near the Rijn-river are beautiful; * Parking is free
Cons: * The dinette was a bit small, so people are walking around each other. Breakfast on the other hand was very good and enough choice; * The lack of a waterboiler and fridge on the room is a pity.

Cons: Location is a 20minute walk to train and they didn’t pick us up as requested when we booked.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable modern hotel in a former school house, built in Bauhaus style. Nicely designed rooms, sunny terrace, friendly staff, good breakfast. All around pleasant.
Cons: The small village of Lorch is not the most exciting location in the Rhine valley. There are a couple good wine restaurants and a lot of train traffic running through the village. Fortunately, this hotel is removed from that noise and pleasantly quiet.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great location and cool building.
Cons: Parking lot is too small during busy days or long weekends. The front-desk staff asked for rooms to be paid on check-in, despite our stay being 4 days long. Usually you stay at a hotel first and then pay at the end. Didn't like that part...otherwise fine though.

Pros: Staying "zur Loreley" reminded me what is the genuine signification of a family hotel. Our host Sebastian made his very best to make sure that we could enjoy at best our time in his town, he is very helpful, honest and friendly, his staff too, and his hotel is perfectly placed, comfortable quiet and clean. Traveling myself a lot since 20 years, I want to mention to you that we felt blessed to experience such a genuine accomodation's care in our modern times ...
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Was made some fresh scrambled eggs and bacon, which was delicious with crusty rolls. Also Sebastian, the owner, knows how to treat travellers. He has good people skills and was extremely helpful during my stay. He stayed on when I was due to arrive an hour later after check-in deadline. Also, when I made a mistake with the booking Sebastian adjusted the price accordingly. When here they would just have said: ‘Your fault pal’. It was a pleasure to be back in Germany, which is one of my favourite countries in Europe.

Pros: We stayed in the Burg Rheinstein apartment, not the hotel. The apartment was AMAZING!! So clean and comfortable. A large bathroom, bedroom, sitting room and kitchen, all with windows that opened and most with charming views. It was very hot, and there was a fan in the closet!!! The kitchen was lovely, with built in refrigerator, freezer and everything we needed. There is a grocery store directly across the street, We had breakfast in the hotel, a short walk to the center of charming Bacharach. The hotel exterior and interior is beautiful and the breakfast was outstanding. They do cater to Americans with crispy bacon, but the typical German breakfast is what we love. I didn't want to leave and I can't wait to stay again.

Cons: The hotel is a little way outside of Oberwesel and uphill and although you could walk down to the town you really need a car to get you back up to the hotel unless you are very fit! We did not find this a problem as we were using our car anyway to visitl the other villages on the Rhine.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Clean room. Lots of little touches made it a wonderful stay. It’s not right on the Rhine, but it has a beautiful view over the countryside. Very friendly staff. Restaurant is delightful with some of the best meals we have had!
Cons: Can’t think of anything !
6.3 Good

Cons: We’ve got such a rude email from them. Complain about things and very rude email. If you give service stop behave like this . Its very bad behavior. !

10.0 Excellent
Pros: So we stayed here as a couple and also took a separate smaller room for my mother. Our mini-apartment was really fantastic, separate from the main area, we had lovely facilities, even a living room! We had a very good nights sleep. The smaller room for my mother was perfect for her needs and clean and neat. We also enjoyed being able to look at the fantastic view up to the nearby Schloss (Castle). Although we didn't venture on a walk, there was a very nice looking one that coincided with the property. The breakfast we had included with our room was also great, lots of delectable choices :)
Cons: My Mother was unfortunate in that the other guests in her part of the GasteHaus had a bit of a party together out on the porch and didn't think of other guests being affected by their slamming doors etc, but thankfully that ended eventually. And that isn't the fault of the GasteHaus itself!
7.5 Good
Pros: Very nice people(Mr.and Mrs. Knab). Very friendly atmosphere. Nice suggestions for things to do.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Quiet place, nice room good clean bathroom.excellent breakfast. The owners could not be nicer
Cons: WiFi is to be honest very poor, slow and intermittent.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Hosts. Facilities.
7.5 Good
Cons: We tried to pay with a credit card which was not accepted by the owners. We had to go down to the village to get cash from the local bank. They should have told us that credit cards were not acceptable when we booked the rooms.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Warm welcome and friendly hosts. Nothing was too much trouble. Room was furnished to a high standard, spacious and very clean. We had a comfortable stay that exceeded our expectations. Breakfast was plenty, tasty and always came with a little chat about the plans for the day with little suggestions from the hosts. The location is quiet with stunning views and just a short walk from St Goar. We will definitely come back!
Cons: Nothing.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The whole hotel has been recently refurbished and is very nice. Friendly helpful reception with welcoming personal touch. A little out of town, but not too far, and great value!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very accommodating hosts, comfortable room, air conditioning. Honor bar where we could grab drinks and snacks and charge them to our room. Good late meal in on-site restaurant. Convenient base for touring the middle Rhine Valley. A short drive or longer walk into town.
Cons: I didn’t pay close enough attention to the location when I booked and thought we were staying in the main part of town. Instead, it was maybe a mile or so away, which made it a little less convenient to go to restaurants, shopping, etc.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was nice.
Cons: The mattress was a bit hard.
7.9 Good
Pros: The manager Serban was terrific.exceptionally helpful . Breakfast was also superb
Cons: No problems Perhaps a bit far from town (we were on bikes) but at least no traffic noise
7.9 Good
Pros: Had a nice tiny garden we could reach from our terrace. Everything in the room was newly renovated. Vending machines with all you need. Parking lot just outside the hotel
Cons: The door and walls are absolutely not soundproof, you can hear everything little thing guests are saying in the hall way, I could even here the hydraulic system as in one room they were taking a shower. Also the beds were extremely squeaky. With every little movement you would hear a noise. So during the night I couldn’t sleep and in the morning I heard all the guests around. Needless to say I was not well rested
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Excellent friendly staff, great breakfast.
Cons: Even though we had lovely evening meals in the locality, it would have been nice to eat in the hotel, but that's just a wish and not a necessity.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Cleanliness was very good. Front desk fellow went above and beyond service for us Great breakfast for the price! Again, great service!
Cons: Signage to find the place was a problem. We took a couple of wrong turns the first time. Uphill...ugh!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: This place is perfect. You are staying in a castle, looking across the river at two other castles. The staff were all so very nice! The included huge breakfast sitting high above and looking down on the Rhine is such an amazing way to start each morning. The hotel is perfectly located half way between northern Rhine attractions and southern Rhine attractions in this area, with a ferry crossing right there in Sankt Gore for your car to cross to the other side if needed. This is important because there are very few bridges in this area. The property is manicured amazingly with Castle Reinfels tour right there as well. If the breakfast and restaurant dinning area isn’t enough, there’s an open air terrace for dinning as well. Weight room, spa, indoor swimming pool, elevators to take you bags from your car to your room, really fast internet, interesting and beautiful nooks and crannies everywhere on the property … it’s just perfect. Highly recommend! Thank you Schloss Reinfels!
5.4 Okay

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent Location. Clean comfortable rooms. Friendly staff
5.4 Okay
Pros: Great location looking over the Rhine.
Cons: Staff were extremely rude. In particular the woman who greeted us at the Restaurant. We asked her if there was any availability for a table for two. She yelled at us ‘no!no! Not tonight we are fully booked’. Never before have I been spoken to like I was a child. After I explained we were staying there she aggressively said she had a table at 8pm. That hardly means you are fully booked. while I accept we could have booked earlier I fail to understand why check in staff didn’t not inform us of the restaurant reservation situation. There are no other places to eat at within a practical walking distance so I am not sure where these ‘thinkers’ thought we were going to eat. After being screamed at we decided we would dine elsewhere. A professional establishment would typically have handle this situation by saying politely ‘ I am sorry but we are full booked right now but if you would like to sit at the bar or come back at 8 we can provide a table for you’. In addition to the rudeness the pillows were in short supply and too soft. The rooms were not air conditioned. This isn’t acceptable for a room in that price range.
7.1 Good
Pros: The food was great. Dinner and the breakfast was in great quality.
Cons: The quality of the restaurant is very good. However I would not suggest visiting here in the high season. The kitchen was extremely busy and could get plates in reasonable time. We needed to wait an hour to get our desert after the main dishes.
7.1 Good
Pros: The best things about this hotel were the location, the amazing views, the food was excellent and the staff were very professional and so friendly.
Cons: I understand not having air conditioning in an old castle, but in 40 degree heat without even ceiling fans or electric plug in fans it was unbearable. We were not able to finish our anniversary meal because I felt so faint from heat exhaustion, instead we took the champagne bucket to the room and used the iced water with cloths to try to cool down. Unfortunately our room was full of spiders and as I have a fear of spiders this made for an extra uncomfortable night in the castle. I waited years for the opportunity to stay in this castle, but sadly was disappointed and left early the next day.

Pros: Beyond Beautiful. Great Location

Pros: Location on main street is good, with some nice restaurants around. However the main line runs through one side of the town [ it is only a few streets deep], so rumble is apparent in early hours of some heavy goods trains. Breakfast very good.

Pros: Perfect location in the town of Oberwesel. Everyone was very friendly and happy to help despite the language barrier. The food was wonderful both breakfast and dinner well presented. Our room was fresh and spacious my only issue was the bed creaked but not enough to make it a problem.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Only one minute from the Rhine, lovely terrace to enjoy meals and relax. Excellent customer service, good breakfast, value for money. Excellent centre for visiting other places of interest e.g. St Goar, Rudesheim, Boppard etc.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice Hotel close to the Rhine. Very Good Buffet breakfast and very nice evening meals.
Cons: Having to leave
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The character combined with high quality of a long established family owned and run hotel. Run by owners who care. And dinner ( served in the pretty garden was excellent.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Everything was first-rate except for the wifi. The staff was friendly, the beds were comfortable, and the breakfast was hearty and tasty. We loved having the balcony over the stream on the north side and falling asleep to the sound of the rushing water. The house is very historic - the German national anthem was first sung here. Great location right near the walkable part of the city walls.
Cons: The wifi didn't reach up to the rooms on the 3rd floor. The shower doors were a bit old and squeaked loudly.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Family run hotel all the staff very friendly. Lovely terrace which was full of an evening for drinks and food. Ate at the restaurant food very nice. Lovely views from the top of the hill.
Cons: Abit quiet

Pros: Everything was very good. Comfortable and clean room, nice breakfast, beautiful location. We also liked the restaurant (closed on Mondays) which offered well cooked local food. Overwesel is a nice place to use as a basis to go sightseeing in the area. All-in-all, a very satisfying stay

7.5 Good
Cons: I wish there were better pillows that suited both local and international tourists. We found it very hard to sleep with European style pillows.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent food quality. Room with fantastic view and love chef Charlie.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The food, comfy bed good shower
Cons: Train line just outside
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was beautiful with a great view of the river
Cons: All was great
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Room(s) in tower. Actually it was 3 rooms on 3 levels. I liked it, nicely decorated. Warning: steep spiral staircase to the tower rooms and between tower rooms. A bit of a problem for luggage, but no big deal. Dinner was good to excellent. Breakfast was excellent. 3 rooms included 2 bedrooms. One bedroom had the shower, Landing of other bedroom had toilet with sink room, separate urinal room. Kitchenette, TV, couches & tables on 3rd floor.
Cons: To me internet is a CRITICAL component of a good stay. The hotel provided a computer in our tower rooms. BUT internet in the tower is non-existent, so you can't use the computer, nor your wifi cell phone. I would have rated hotel higher if the internet had been good. As it was I had to sit outside the entrance to the restaurant to view text and email.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Incredibly accommodating host with a room that had all amenities. Facilities including the restaurant were excellent. My challenge is the German style of double beds. Two twin beds pushed together does not make a double bed for a US person. The location by the river is nice but the proximity to the railway is not. Otherwise this is a 5 star hotel.
Cons: Twin beds and railway proximity to hotel.
