Pros: The St Paul is a wonderful hotel experience. Every detail has been attended to. You won't find a friendlier staff any where and they are very willing to help you out. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay.
Cons: I found nothing to complain about.
9.6 Excellent
Cons: The first room looked and felt like a motel but this was based on my first stay at the hotel which had views of Rice Park: however, Justin at the front desk accommodated us once I upgraded to an Ambassador Suite. It was wonderful.
9.0 Excellent
Cons: Thought the fee to park overnight $30 was a bit high for the market (St. Paul) and then not enough staff in AM to get car so we waited about 15 minutes.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I loved the style and hospitality!
Cons: Nothing. Everything was spectacular!
2.0 Mediocre
Cons: The room was too hot and couldn't control the heat..shut off heat got very dry... pillows were too big

5.0 Okay
Pros: Nice hotel, rooms, and location.
Cons: Some staff were surly, message system incomprehensible; for a "Landmark" the hotel was a disappointment. They claim 4 stars but they are more like a way overpriced 3.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION The staff was very helpful and polite.
Cons: Not very many amenities. I would like free breakfast. Access to my vehicle once parked would be nice too.
The Covington Houseboat - Saint Paul - Building
2
9.6 Excellent (70 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Stay the night on the Mississippi River – literally – at the Covington Inn. This houseboat is trimmed stem to stern in mahogany, brass and bronze, extending to guests the elegant comfort once reserved aboard historic work vessels for company executives and VIPs. Windows and portals in the boat's tiered design draw light into each room. Sleeping quarters feature a mix of ingenious built-in cabinets with simple furnishings from the Covington's work era. Salvaged fixtures, nautical antiques and historic art provide tasteful reminders of the river and the inn's past life. Sitting permanently moored within the reflection of downtown St. Paul's towering skyline, The Capitol, museums, theater, fine dining and shopping wait just across the bridge. Offering a place for both a quiet getaway and the city spree, the Covington does it all. Beyond the privacy of the staterooms, the salon provides a comfortable gathering place. Lit with clerestory windows and furnished with fireside couches and window-front tables, the salon offers a great place for breakfasting, letter writing and browsing through the Covington library of historic river and shipping books. Our breakfasts, cooked in the boat's galley, pamper you with just a touch of the gourmet while fueling a full-day's exploration.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly, helpful staff. Excellent location.
Cons: The pillows were a bit soft for my liking.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The location for events at the Xcel Energy Center.
Cons: The parking options. Was told there was only valet & after being charged $31.00 found out there was a self-parking option that was cheaper.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The location was perfect, staff was super friendly and helpful!
Cons: Cost for parking was high.
7.0 Good
Pros: We had a suite with sofa bed to have enough space for the kids. Room was spacious with microwave and fridge (very helpful to prepare milk for baby). The view was lovely (Cathedral). There is a beautiful river park close by, several pleasant restaurants/diners close by. A lovely cafe (Cafe Astoria) is close by and really good (the traditional cappuccino was great and they have many funky drinks too). Big plus about location: children and science museum are close by. The front desk staff was really nice and helpful.
Cons: Two problems: 1. we stayed two nights. We did not want room cleaning after the first night for a variety of logistical reasons (sleeping kids, getting ready for a wedding during the morning etc). We left some clothes (pajamas) folded on the bed before leaving. When we came back the cleaning staff had clearly entered our room despite the do not disturb sign; our king size bed was made but our clothes were randomly and carelessly thrown over a chair and table, the sofa bed on the other hand was not made. My point: if you ignore the sign that clearly says do not disturb and decide to come in and make the beds, make sure to make both beds and do not throw our clothes around. What is the point of invading privacy for a job badly done?... and it is not like they cleaned the bathroom... honestly what is the point of coming into the room and throw our clothes around...? 2. the breakfast is the less sustainable experience we had in a while, and we travel a lot in many hotels in the US and abroad. Everything: plates, forks, knifes, glasses is disposable and they do not recycle... I honestly lost my appetite... personal preference: bed way too soft, minimal back support
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This hotel has thee best staff. Excellent customer service
Cons: Zero
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Beds were excellent! Super close to concert venue, food, and bars
Cons: No self-parking that we could find. Didn’t mind valet but if you stay overnight (which that is what you are there for...) you get charge $31 the day you check in and each day you stay, even if you only stay 1 night
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff at the desk were most helpful and personable. Excellent workout room.
Cons: Would have liked a microwave in the room.
1.0 Poor
Cons: They charged my card 2 separate times and then when i called lied and said the reservation was for 2 nights.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent staff and location to Xcel
Cons: A restaurant/bar would be great and profitable!

Pros: The company is also looking for a picture of a guy who is this for a second time and is not approving the contract for the same thing to me but I'm not going anywhere until the next year and he said that if he was in the back of the other one of my buildi
Cons: I was wondering what the next day was going to be in the back of my mind and it would be a big surprise if you can see that it was a little more money than I expected it would do for a picture that's been in a lot worse for a second and I would like it if

7.0 Good
Pros: Handy to airport
Cons: Nocoffee in lobby when we had to lleave
10.0 Excellent
Cons: Security system did not work in elevator
10.0 Excellent
Pros: You can't beat the location if you plan to leave from MSP. Just keep in mind you can only walk to the airport through a TSA checkpoint at terminal C with carry-on bag and online check-in. If you want to go and check bags, inquire with a person at the airport, etc., you still have to take their shuttle. Seems a bit poor planned.
Cons: They should have built a walking access to the airport, not just a terminal.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location, rate, cleanliness
Cons: Trick to drive yoo
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location is excellent once we found out how to get to it. Rooms are big enough, and nicely appointed. Bed very comfortable.Check in staff
Cons: Check in staff was excellent. AM staff were disorganized. It appeared that the role each one was to play was not clear. The coffee spot near the front desk was not staffed and when the person was available, she was unfriendly.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice hotel located right in the middle of the airport, yet very quiet. Extremely clean rooms and excellent beds! Will definitely start here again.
Cons: No
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The lounge are was a blast! So many games/activities to do - not just the usual pool table and foosball but life size Scrabble, carpet pool, at least 50 board games to choose from. Upscale/upbeat atmosphere. Great for kids too!
Cons: When I booked a hotel in this area I did not expect to pay for parking, I was very disappointed to find out hotel guests had to pay the regular airport parking rate ($29/day). I understand it's the only place to park, it was just a surprise.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful facility, right at the airport and quiet inside....
Cons: Parking is 29 dollars and 10 dollar wifi Just seems so nickle-dime

8.2 Excellent
Cons: Paid extra for a room with a city view. We were given a room on the first floor that looked out at a parking lot and gas station.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The room and facilities were above expectations.
Cons: I was very distressed at lack of parking facilities and requirement to use valet parking, at a cost of $20 per day, plus tips. Additionally, the room had power curtains but they did not work when I checked in. It took some investigation to discover they had been unplugged. Also, while the shower was very nice, it leaked badly.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Clean room and beautiful and the breakfast was awesome!
Cons: There was no parking available but the receptionist said that they could valet park my vehicle. There was no mention of a “parking fee” until I got my receipt the next day. I still would have paid for it but it would have been nice for them to have mentioned it.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was definitely a step up here than the other experiences I’ve had at other hotels. The bed was super comfortable, the service was top notch and I really enjoyed my stay.
Cons: Only thing that could of been better is if I didn’t get sick during my trip. Otherwise, the whole trip was very enjoyable for my first time in St. Paul and I’m definitely saving this location for future visits.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Most of the staff were extremely nice and helpful. The rooms have comfortable beds and seating.
Cons: The room was a little cramped. Small bathroom with low toilets.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Room design and layout. Comfortable bed. Shuttle van was nice.
Cons: No parking.

Pros: Our room was way more than expected. It was very large, high ceilings, excellent bathroom, quiet. There was a gym on our floor and a pool. The lobby to our room was clean ... lobby, elevator and hallways ... and quiet. Breakfest area was exceptional with good morning food offerings. There were two parking garages across the street for $5.

Cons: I do prefer to have a bathtub for hotel stays, and there was only a shower here. But that's just nitpicking, really.

Pros: Service and breakfast
Cons: Air/heating set up for room. Room very hot with no heat on in winter on 2nd floor so had to turn A/C on to cool to 70 deg. It was 10 deg outside so as unit kicked on during night you would freeze while the unit blowed directly towards the bed until it k

10.0 Excellent
Pros: What a gem in the heart of the historic district of Saint Paul. This is a beautiful 1900’s mansion with original woodwork and wood floors within walking distance to many of the great restaurants and sites Saint Paul has to offer. The host Kevin works hard to make sure your stay is comfortable, and every need is met. He communicated immediately after booking and confirmed the details the day before we were scheduled to arrive. Due to other commitments, we were running behind schedule but that was not a problem for Kevin who set everything up for our late arrival. Once we arrived and settled in, he checked with us via text to see if we needed anything. Our visit was in the late fall, which was cooler, but we would like to return in warmer weather to enjoy the large front porch or the rear outdoor patio for our morning coffee. Parking was easy as there are two parking spots on site, but we chose to park in the street, always able to get a spot directly in front of the home. Breakfast was another highlight of our stay, as Kevin had been a chef in previous positions. He offered several options for the main course, along with standard homemade muffins, fruit, and the large stack of bacon. We were visiting our daughter who attends a local college, and Kevin was kind to invite her to join us for breakfast.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was awesome and artistic. It was delivered with a great deal of pleasure. It was fun to eat with strangers who can become friends by the end of the meal. Kevin was super friendly. The room looked great and included night time snacks and beverages. The soap and shampoo smelled so very nice. They were the best sheets I have ever slept on.

Pros: Staff was absolutely fantastic. Very kind and knowledgeable. The location is also great for events in St. Paul especially.
Cons: Yikes. The hotel was loud until 1 am. People knocking on my door at 2:30 am. There’s no breakfast, the fan in the room didn’t work making it impossible to drown all the noise out. I would never stay at this property again, we woke up exhausted.

Pros: The hotel was really nice, had good amenities and was comfortable.

Cons: The bartender was not as attentive as I thought she should of been. Especially since we ordered at least 20 drinks, 2 T-bone steak dinners and another dinner.

Pros: Breakfasts were great
Cons: Cleaning staff never cleaned our room
9.6 Excellent
Pros: I love that there is a kitchenette in the room. The view was great. The bed was comfortable.
Cons: I wish that the burners for the cooking top were larger. It is hard to heat the pans evenly. Also, they need dish rags for washing dishes. I also wish they had a long ethernet cord, so I could hook my blue ray player up to the TV so I could watch netflix.

Cons: Room cleaning is not happened everyday

Pros: Great breakfast & beautiful facility

Cons: Upon arrival my husband was charged for the room, the room was already payed for and under his name. We were assured that the charge will be reversed but it still is not. We asked for extra pillows and a blanket and were told there are no extras.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Rooms were very nice and inviting. Close to many, many restaurants and entertainment

Pros: The staff was wonderful. It was very clean. We loved our room.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The rooms are very large, clean and the amenities in the room are very nice. There is ample parking and very easy access to the highway.
Cons: I was a few times at this hotel and was very happy with it. This time, I was quite negatively surprised. The reception proposed a room when I checked in, and I asked for a different floor and got it. When I was in my room a couple entered the room with a key, which they have received from the reception for the same room. When we all got down to the reception they tried to fix that but over and over again sent me to my room with the wrong keys. I was quite disappointed by the service, and from the breach in security.

7.5 Good
Pros: Loved the fire pit and the grills. Rooms were really nice also
Cons: The breakfast was not good. Would have been nice if fire pit had a little more privacy and not right out the front door
7.5 Good
Pros: Common areas were great. Outdoor areas major plus
Cons: Breakfast was bad. Fire pit right out the front door
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Location was great. Room was very nice.
Cons: Breakfast options were very limited.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great rooms for families. Loved the divider curtain when putting the smaller kids to bed. We used the computers to search for coupons. We didn’t hear anything around us and loved the shades, we had no light coming in during the early morning. I felt we had plenty of breakfast options. I was surprised at how good the eggs were. Staff was quick to refill empty or low items. Loved all the kitchen items in our room.
Cons: There was no diet pop to buy when I went looking for some. We didn’t get to sit by the fire as people sat there and stayed for the night. That are looks great and inviting I wished there was one more fire. The area with breakfast food is really full. Just think breakfast should be stretched out a little like maybe the microwave items. So there was really nothing I didn’t like.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: First time we've tried this relatively new Hilton Chain which is modern, bright and quite funky. This hotel is only two years old so everything is fresh and clean. Our room was spacious with two comfortable queen beds, a rather hard sofa and a kitchenette with fridge /freezer, microwave and dishwasher. Whilst there is no fitted stove top you can borrow a portable one or skillet from reception. There is also a coffee maker although this is constantly available free of charge in the lobby. Was nice to have a glass fronted walk in shower and there is a good counter top space in the bathroom and a decent hairdryer. Breakfast is included. Staff are helpful. Plenty of free parking The facilities in the hotel are good with a small well equipped gym, pool and laundry facility. There is also a nice casual seating area in front of the hotel with a faux fire. Location is reasonable if you want to take in various sights in the area as around 20 mins drive to each of downtown Minneapolis, St Paul, Mall of America and Prince's home and Studio. Overall I would recommend this hotel.
Cons: The breakfast set up could be improved. It's served in the lobby area and the space was too cramped for the number of guests. Didn't like the Mcdonald style omlettes and breakfast muffins that you self heat in the microwave. Most restaurants are a 15 min drive.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It wasn't bad fare for a breakfast but it would be nice to have a few more options for the eggs. I did enjoy that you had fruit for the granola and oatmeal.
Cons: Your towels are very rough and bleached out. They seemed to have a very chemically smell to them. I guess it is from the washing process but it would be nice if they had a sent free option for those of us with allergies.

Pros: It is within walking distance to a small strip mall with a variety of restaurants, a Caribou Coffee, and a few other stores. Short drive to the nearest gas station.
Cons: There was not a mini fridge and/or microwave in the room. The lightning in the bathroom was very dim. The road we were brought to the hotel on, via GPS, was confusing and difficult to navigate. But once we got there, we were able to find an alternative route.

Pros: Breakfast was good but the hours are terrible.
Cons: Long black hairs everywhere in our room.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Modern, clean, convenient breakfast.
Cons: Beds need to be updated to a more comfortable mattress. It was hard.
9.1 Excellent
Pros: Location
Cons: Breakfast
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The bed was like a cloud and the pillows too. Shower was good and the normal size fridge was perfect. Nice and quite and the sun blocking window shades worked like a dream. Check-in was easy and they even had our room ready ahead of time, which was very helpful.
Cons: The only thing I can say, is my wife didn't like the way the bathroom door shuts. With a baby, it isn't easy to keep shut without wedging it. But I found nothing wrong with our stay. Wish we had a different view, but from the 5th floor it all looks good.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amenities were very accommodating. Comfy room too
Cons: The water pressure in the shower. Too light
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room layout was great in that it offered a lot of space to spread out. The food was fresh and tasty and a good variety. The whole experience was pleasant with attentive staff at every turn.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Pleasantly surprised and perfect location Comfy beds and pillows
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The female front desk, Patty in the food area, and the young people who cleaned our room were wonderful. The male desk person was not personable or helpful. The breakfast was good and they were very attentive about making sure we had a wonderful experience. We checked on using the pool but it was filled with kids and decided we needed a quiet night.
Cons: We could never connect to the internet. We checked twice to make sure we had the correct directions: room number and your last name, but it would not work on any of our devices. Coffee was cold the second morning we came down for breakfast and not very good. The motel was filled with sports teams and we found them very rude but this wasn't the motel's fault.

Pros: Breakfast was better than most included breakfasts. Good coffee also. Great bed, very clean room.
Cons: Carpet in the elevator very stained and dirty. Drain in sink by fridge plugged. Just not quite as clean and sparkly as when I stayed there a year ago. Room was very clean though.
6.7 Good
Pros: The pool was warm, breakfast was good, hotel staff was friendly
Cons: Bed sheet was inside out, dorito under the bed, something on the ceiling. No hotel book stating amenities or near by restaurants or map of hotel.
7.1 Good
Pros: Location. Breakfast was good, but limited seating. An overflow room would’ve been ideal this weekend when there was a hockey team staying there, they took up all the room.
Cons: Room was too small and only one TV. I like to go to bed and watch a little TV. The TV swiveled, but was hard to see. A TV hung on the wall would’ve been appropriate. Foot stools or lounging chairs would’ve been nice, but room was small, one person efficiency apartment would be an accurate description. Planning to avoid this type of room in the future.
2.0 Mediocre
Pros: We stayed at this hotel before; it has a great location and free parking. The staff is nice but doesn't seem empowered to address concerns. The property has gone really downhill over the past year. We moved to a different hotel for third night.
Cons: Rooms are dingy with torn lampshades, broken toilet seats and tattered carpet. Our kids wanted to go swimming. The pool was dirty (debris floating in water) and when we asked staff to clean it, they said it no one could clean it for several days.
9.0 Excellent

8.0 Excellent
Pros: Location. Larger room option. Free parking. Proximity to downtown Minneapolis. Food options for dining. Costco with gas station proximity.
Cons: The sofa sleeper allowed no room to get around the room when it was u folded. Cleaning staff was late getting to our room so we passed on getting it clean. The cleaner was very hospitable in making sure we did get clean towels, rags and coffee replacemnt
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great breakfast selection especially warm food. Near to other restaurants. Quiet rooms.
Cons: The room was just bit small or crowded. Difficult to navigate when pack n play is near the bed. Cabinet door was busted too.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Setup and cleanliness of the room were excellent. Front desk staff were friendly and very helpful.
Cons: The staff member that does breakfast was rude, impatient with kids( yelled at another guests child), she walked around angry both mornings. We were told breakfast on Friday would be served until 9:30 when we came down at 9:05 and not restocked.
