Staff, bfast, first impressions and location Room, plaster work, upkeep of room
Leaving the hotel Rooms to small , only one small towel , evening meal and breakfast was very poor
Had to collect towels and pillows from reception as no one was available to bring them to our room. Quality of the room was poor.
it was a good stopover hotel in a good location. I left a ladies cream zip up fleece top in room 403. please could you arrange for it to be posted to me - Heather Tilley, 26 Kings Avenue, Carshalton, Surrey, SM5 4NX.
Good value basic accommodation, which is what I was looking for and expected. Gunwharf Quay area was lovely - wish I could have spent more time there. Didn't like too much the local bars en-route to main town which was in local vicinity.
The hotel is cery nice but the noise that I have during the night as my room was in the first floor
The location of the hotel was excellent for my visit The tv kept switching off after 10 mins, couldn't get the internet except with staff's help and this completely ruined my website translation business for those three nights causing me loss of money (the wi-fi alternative in the lobby didn't offer me the privacy I needed), the room was over-heated inspite of lowering the temperature, the pillows were too small, there was a group of Bulgarians who checked out on the last night and they were so boisterous they kept banging doors between 2.30am and 4am it was a nightmare
Nice central location, but room was smaller than I expected. Bathroom was very cramped even for someone my size (I'm under 5 foot). Size of bathroom.
Location was good Rooms very small, toilet almost unaccessable for a six footer.
Noise from other residents in night hours
Room very clean, staff very helpful Bed was very hard.
Restaurant and lounge bar area environment very comfortable with the staff very helpful. Bedrooms were in need of refurbishment. No air conditioning in rooms. Bathroom fittings in poor condition. Not the standard expected or seen previously from Hilton Hotels. Being mostly on one level, had a long walk to bedroom. Disappointed not to have breakfast, but could not justify the cost of £16.50 per person extra.
The comfortable bed!! Only a small point but I get irritated by small extra charges (bottled water in the room and car park). If you had charged an extra £4 for the room I still would have booked it, but I would have left without the feeling of penny pinching on the part of the hotel.
breakfast! the chef went out of his way to accommodate me willingly.
It was nice and comfortable. A little bit too far from the town centre. Needs a little bit more dust cleaning.
Room absolutely stunk of stale cigarettes. There was a sign on the door saying it was a smoking room but housekeeping staff in the corridor told us that this no longer applies. However, the room smelt so strong of cigarettes and there was an ashtray in the room. Smell had tried to be masked with air freshener but this made the overall smell worse. We only stayed 1 night to quickly get ready for and attend a wedding otherwise I would have asked for a change of room.
None Greeted by beer glass and rubbish on the reception steps.Told on arrival that the room telephone was not working and an offer made to move us to an alternative hotel but no apology. Room ridiculously far away from reception. Bathroom was grubby. No crisps, peanuts or similar snacks available at bar.
The room, staff, food, very comfortable bed,all in all first class No complaints at all
Price - Summer Offer for 2 nights bed & breakfast. Our room was upgraded to deluxe. Excellant breakfast. No lift.
Breakfast Awful decor, rust in bath, horrible smell in place
Hotel has a pool and was easy to find and had plenty of parking spaces. Staff were friendly. Breakfast was included in the price Powerful hairdrier provided. The bed was comfortable. The pool is small and quite claustrophobic - an odd shape to accomodate more than 2 adults wishing to swim careful 'lengths'. The jacuzi was noisy and intrusive and I didn't find the swim a relaxing experience - a great shame.
The staff were all friendly. The room was large and comfortable and the food was of a high standard. nothing
we only stayed one night so it was just somewhere to sleep staff were very helpful room was cleanand comfy and we went on our way with a good breackfast inside us no complaints at all
the room was immaculate. staff were friendly and helpful.
Pleasant atmosphere, good food.
Nice hotel with a good location in Southsea The showers in the bathrooms are under the level of the rest of the hotel
Room was very poor, next to the lift that took for ever to arrive!
Breakfast Bar prices
Very friendly and attentive staff, coping smoothly with 2 wedding parties as well as normal visitors Chaotic parking
easy to find, pleasant room, helpful staff, excellent breakfast. thought chandeliers magnificent....
The best location of the city. We had a good dinner there and very good breakfast. The rooms have different locations in the hotel and different prices. If you can, take the most expansive rooms to have a wonderful sea view, even if the rooms on the rearside are also very pleasant . A trip to the first part of the 20th century with modern comfort. No
Location of the hotel was a little far away to local amenities and some more tips on Taxi companies to use would have been helpful.
ease of access, parking, catered fopr gluten free diet n/a
Excellent sized room & bed. evening meal included None
I got the food to eat in the hotel. That's the only point I can think of. I ordered a muffins in the cafe coffee day counter and I was served two day old muffinn to me Room Heater was not working when I entered the room and I was never told when I was making a booking that room heater will not be available in the summer season. this caused me lot of inconvenience as I went alongwith with my wife and a kid(5 months old). And I was literally shocked by this incident. Please please intimate people what you will offer and what you will not beforehand so that visitor can make decision accordingly whether to stay in your hotel or not
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and were in awe over your leisure facilities, and we will most defonatly stay again No bad points
Staff is very friendly. The pool is quite small and the jacuzzi was broken.
the rooms were comfortable. the swimming pool and sauna was relaxing.the showers temperature and force of water was very good.
Very comfortable stay at the Marriott. Staff were very helpful and polite. We even got a bottle of wine, fruit basket and chocolates in our room as it was our anniversary which was a lovely surprise. Would recommend.
The improvements to the hotel and dining area are lovely. Very impressed with staff, especially the young blonde waitress who greeted us each mealtime with a smile, asking how our day had gone. Well done
The hotel is well located and easy to find. The staff were friendly and helpful - no problem when I asked for a later checkout. Would stay again.
The rooms were very attractive, very individual and well appointed. Greeting on arrival was somewhat muted. We didn't realise that we would be staying in the 'annexe' - it didn't matter in the end but would have been nice to be told earlier than when walking across the street. Bathroom a bit small-shower was good.
Staff were polite, helpful and had good knowledge of surrounding area. Rooms were bright and airey with good decor and en-suite. Rooms were made to look bigger on the website than they actually were. No indication of when the rooms were going to be cleaned was given until they actually wanted to clean them.
Friendliness of staff, cleanliness of hotel and good choice of breakfast. Having parking capacity helps as hotel is situated in small backstreets just of the main promenade and space is restricted. The standard double room is on the small side and more what you'd expect in a B&B establishment (although it was clean and well furnished). The sink in the en-suite bathroom was tiny and difficult to use.
It was clean, decorated very nicely, quiet, smelt nice and parking was easy. I would rather have had the breakfast facilities in our part of the building - had the weather been awful it would have been not very nice to cross over to the other building for breakfast. There was no hotel information in our part of the hotel either.
the room we had was very spacious and nicely furnished shower leaked and fittings were poor. Toilet was very small & cold! door to our room was not very secure + large gap so anyone could see through.
Friendly and helpful staff. Luxurious and large bedroom.
The hotel is situated in a good position. It was bright and clean and the breakfast was good. We arrived at 2pm as stated on the internet but in reception it says check in 3pm. We did not want feather pillows as we had requested. This was not done till we checked into the hotel. The grouting on the bathroom floor kept coming off as we walked.
Very friendly staff and exellent breakfast
Very Friendly and courteous staff. Excellent Breakfast. Felt the room was a bit small.
Excellent, lovely, cosy hotel. Nice room, very warm atmospere. Very difficult to find, no elevator.
Comfort, peace and quite and very friendly staff. Not having a restuarant.
The room was beautiful, the spa bath was a lovely luxury, and the staff were very friendly! No in-room coffee/tea making facilities. It was possible to get it with room service but that would cost. After paying £150 a night, i thought it a bit much to be charged extra for a cuppa in the room!
The service They change the soap each day even though it is not all used.
Lovley personal service run by 2 top people
Everything was excellant apart from the price Too pricey for the location
A very nice small hotel, excellent service, excellent room Some fittings in the bathroom were not working, but the hotel did point these out, Very disapointed to find no coffee/tea facilities in room, very poor for a hotel charging such high rates.
The large bath set in the floor of the room was lovely and so was the breakfast. I had a wonderful rest to be ready for a very important day's business in Portsmouth.
the room and attention to detail the location needs to be on the seafront and is wasted where it is
Our room was very nice - comfy bed, great shower, lovely furnishings. Location was odd - residential with very little parking and few nearby restaurants; our room was at the top of four flights of stairs, the staff offered several times to assist with bags so it is not a big problem but something to be aware of.
Very functional and practical The room lighting is poor. Lots of tiny lights which don't illuminate the room properly.
Ease of access to the historic dockyard, shops and restaurants. Not enough seating for breakfast. No facility for evening meal in hotel. Sign posting to hotel not very good. The hotel sign was not lit up well as it was broken.
the position of the hotel with regard to the historic dockyard was great, with plenty of resturants close by. lack of signs from underground car park to hotel, no fun pulling luggage around the shopping centre.
location and helpful polite staff breakfast was caos and not all food was available. Think table service on hot food would be a solution.
Convenince of location, cleanliness of hotel.
The breakfast was a little on the poor side, lacking in certain areas.
the friendliness of the staff, location and the size of the room I stayed in ,could not fault the hotel in any way
central position. parking easy. close to port. building going on outside. like fresh air so needed window open. so noisy.
excellent location, excellent reception staff
Staff very helpful. Rooms relatively spacious and quite comfortable. A contemporary and not too basic feel to the hotel. Ease of access to Gunwharf Keys many bars and restaurants. one of the nicest Express by Holiday Inns we have stayed in. Breakfast was somewhat disappopinting. Understand not being able to provide a cooked breakfast but thought that a lack of ham or cheese didn't quite support the continental breakfast experience stated outlined in hotel literature.
Such a warm welcome. Excellent value for money.
People were very nice and the house was wonderful
An excellent, very large, room and good breakfast with friendly and efficient service. The location is also convenient for shops and other facilities. Lack of car parking facilities.
excellent guest house owners were very friendly an welcoming lovely comfy beds superb breakfast would recommend the retreat as a great place to stay
Excellent hosts, good position, very clean and comfortable. Very willing and helpful
Breakfast goood, tasty and staff were excellent. Bed comfortable, pillows nice. Position fine. Greeting by manager/owner cool to the point of awkwardness. Also, arrived back after dinner before midnight to be greeted by same person who made us feel like intruders - not very welcoming. Bath is hip bath - so, 50% economy/energy wise, 50% less comfortable for weary road traveller. Lack of toiletries didn't help. No bar added to lack of relaxation factor.Photographs didn't match reality. Smelt like 1950's boarding house, cabbage-Y.
Good clean room The owner of the hotel was very offhand
Attractive, clean large guest house with helpful owner/manager. Excellent value for money None
Very agreeable and friendly hotel staff None
The hotel was very clean The temperature on the shower was impossible to control
* Location good * friendly approachable staff Parking poor
The breakfast The swimming pool and spa
Cheap, on the whole pretty good staff. 5 mins walk from Gunwharf Quay so plenty of restaurants close be. Water travelling in the pipes making it difficult to sleep. Location is a thoroughfare for drunks wandering home. No phone system. Iron + ironing board is located far away from the room and not very good anyway.
Central, pleasant and helpful staff. Although the rooms were old fashioned in decor they were extremely clean, the beds were very comfortable and we had little or no noise from other guests or outside. The bathroom appeared to have been refurbished. For an overnight stay is was good. The room was a little old fashioned in decor. The signal for the television was poor.
Close to station and historic dockyard. Decor shabby and very dated, but clean and tidy.
Breakfast excellent, bar facilities good, large hotel plenty of facilities
Breakfast was very good, location was perfect, staff were very helpful and pleasant. Overall appearance internally looks tired but there is some updating taking place.
The building was interesting and the staff friendly and very helpful. The breakfast was great, unhurried and with everything you could possibly want. No particually bad points, if we were considering staying there again I think we would have to weigh up the price against other accomodation available.
Staff very kind and helpful. Lack of car parking.
location was good for a re union meeting and shopping
The staff were very helpful and friendly
we have stayed her about 20 times! We used to stay here when it was the Tulip Inn. Everything is great but particularly the showers!! So powerful and plenty of room in them.
cleanliness a bit far from the beach/sea front
The staff were very helpful. The pizza we had in our room with a side salad and chips with a bottle of wine was value for money. The in house restaurant was worth visiting in its own right with friendly staff and value for money. I would like to see a screen or curtain around the sink. Not ideal for personal grooming, ok for cleaning teeth and combing hair only.
Shower cubicle - great. Bar area nice, but limited - better than Travelodges Short-stay storage okay - not any longer. Tea facility good. Window too small, Lift too small, Pillows too thin.
The hotel was very modern and clean. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was excellent. Lack of parking
Spacious room. Breakfast well laid out with good selection. Good road connections.
Overall comfort and location.Good food value Nothing
Friendly staff and quiet, comfortable room Price is about £10 too high
The pool & jacuzzi. Room was clean but very worn. Tough to get around in the room if someone was sitting at the desk. Food in the bar was horrible!
Place to park the car, Acceptable walking distance to Dockyard. Breakfast was excellent
very good breakfast
Excellent, very helpful and knowledgable staff. I would certainly book the buffet breakfast at £8.50 each, very tasty and filling. Nice pool and jacuzzi. Bed was very comfy and a quiet room so a peaceful nights sleep. Around 10minutes walk through a pleasent bit of town to gunwharf quay. £4 taxi from station. We went to portsmouth for a weekend break and would certainly recommend this place
The hotel swimming pool was excellent.
The location of the hotel, in easy walking distance from Gunwharf. Also enjoyed the use of the pool.
The beds Finding it - the standard of the food - totally inadequate parking
