Not too far from the center of the city.
The shared space is not clean and not comfortable. The place is in the dodgy area. They charged us wrong price on credit card.
24/7 front desk - brilliant if you are arriving late at 12.00am as I did. Extremely clean throughout with lifts to all floors and easy ramp to drag luggage to entrance. Cold soft drinks available 24/7 at low prices. Just a short walk to Queens Bridge Metro & only 2 stops to Central Park. Bunk Bed had a quality mattress, quiet & no noise even late at night. Felt very secure - clean fluffy towel & air-con WORKED! Luggage can be secured downstairs. En suite bathroom in 4 person female dorm was immaculate. 12pm check out is great. Lovely helpful staff. Economical and great value. I'd definitely stay again!
OK the immediate area is industrial, and not pretty ;-) The walk to the Metro station passed through various flats for homeless & unemployed - it might be a little daunting for some single female travellers at night, but I managed it as 66yr old gal! Duvets are only given to single rooms not dorms - just a blanket. I need the weight to sleep well, not the warmth - so would have been prepared to pay a few extra $'s to rent one. Only one light in dorm with no bed-light for individual bunks - so late arrivers/early risers would need to put main light on. Didn't bother me (I have eye-mask) but might be worth addressing. Minor stuff compared to the plus points
Man on the desk was very friendly and very helpful. Hotel was clean, fresh looking and a nice size room. Comfortable and friendly and would consider staying again.
Location was ok but a lot of litter and graffiti in surrounding area with badly lit streets made it a little daunting at night.
Very good value for money for New York. Quiet area so got good night's sleep on each of the night's there. Very quick and easy to get into Manhattan as the subway is a two minute walk from the hotel. I was pleasantly surprised with this hotel/hostel. I stayed in a four bed dorm room and it was clean, the beds were comfy, shower gel was provided and the towels were changed every day. There's a common room with pool table and an outdoor area. Also, the armchairs in the reception area were a good place to sit down in the morning and check a few emails or make some online bookings before heading out for the day. There was an amazing excellent selection of tourist brochures and maps at reception
My roommates left the Aircon on all night. The only other option was to leave the window open and both were a little noisy but not enough to really disrupt my night's sleep. The area around the hotel is nothing special (lots of car garages and residential buildings) but really this should not be a problem if you're going to spend your days in Manhattan anyway.
