Pros: You won’t regret coming here, the chalet is amazing, the views spectacular, as is the wine (of which we got not one but two complimentary bottles!!) and even Lamego (2min by car) turned out to be a lovely city worth a walk. Our favorite spot in the whole of Portugal!

Pros: I love everything about the apartment. To begin with, the hosts Pedro and Christina were so generous and did so much for me and also Beatriz was wonderful. The three of them made me feel very welcome and they all went out of their way to make sure I was comfortable. Breakfast was amazing by the way !!! Thank you so much Christina and Beatriz. I need to mention that all the staff were lovely
Cons: Everything was perfect so absolutely nothing to complain about!!!

Pros: We were warmly welcomed at this Quinta, a working vineyard full of history but updated with new high end renovation materials. We were completely blown away by beautiful views from this location, the jeep tour of the gorgeous property, a fabulous breakfast prepared and served in the kitchen of our stone cottage and the thoughtfully restored museum. Highly recommend this place!

Pros: This property blew away our expectations (and they were already high!). From the gorgeous panoramic views, the friendly and helpful staff, the decadent breakfast made and served in our own kitchen each morning, the private tour and wine tasting of their winery, we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Quinta da Portela is a hidden gem and is worth the drive to the valley just to stay here! Thank you so much everyone!

Pros: Excellent everywhere!
Cons: Location with beautiful view over the river and vineyards around. Smiling, helpful staff.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The location is perfect and the hotel's infra is incredible. Everything you would expect on a Six Senses hotel in terms of environment and activities offered. The décor has more to an American luxury chain such as like Four Seasons rather than the local Quintas', but that is the price you pay for the comfort offered, after all, the place is huge! Concierge on arrival was very efficient and promptly arranged the specific visits to local wine producers we requested, as well as transportation. Another positive point was the private wine tasting and explanation provided by Mario from the wine cellar. He surely knows his bottles! The wine cellar's variety is excellent and allows you to access the best available in the the region, which sort of mitigates the considerable price mark-up. Food is just ok, not outstanding. Our overall experience was within our expectations.
Cons: Service. It isn't exactly bad, but tends to be slow and confusing. Unfortunately, this seems to be a major problem in Portugal when it comes to luxury services. Examples: breakfast "table arranging" system is confusing and you struggle to get your hot beverages without having to order 2-3 times. In addition, the guy entitled to operate the eggs (at an open bar in the middle of the main restaurant, which makes some heavy smoke and smell) is frenetically speaking to the staff, constantly clinking his tools and when I ordered egg white omelettes, not only he made that "turning eye emoji" face as slipped the interjection "misericórdia" (something like "for God's sake"). The sommelier at the main restaurant took so long to appear that we had already given up waiting for his advise when he came to take our order. I don't think the problem are one or two employees, let me be clear. Staff doesn't treat you bad, they just lack the training needed to service at a place like Six Senses. Gym should have more cardio machines, as only 2 treadmills seems little in peak times. I would highly recommend a stair simulator. The SPA massages are above average but really guys, "best in Europe" is a bit pushy. Definitely not comparable to the service offered by the Six Senses chain in Asia. Bonus: management team should really advise staff to be careful when addressing Brazilian clients (which are considerable in the hotel, for obvious reasons). I do understand there's a difference in the way Portuguese people are more "straight to the point" when communicating, but it is very easy to be misunderstood as rude. This is probably what happened when I called reception asking for an iron for my room and was told that there was none available. By the way, really? At a 800EUR/night 5* hotel?

Pros: The host was simply amazing. Language was no barrier between us Buffet breakfast was amazing and having stayed in places throughout the world I have never had a host who was happy for us to take away any of the breakfast goodies for your lunch. Pros: Everything was just perfect. The staff, especially Maria and José, were extremely friendly and helpful. We felt like home. The bedroom was quite big for three people and all the facilities were great. Another positive thing was the breakfast with loads of options and so tasty! Thank you again guys for the hospitality. Can't wait to come back!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is a small family-run historic hotel. The family believes in excellence as their only standard. Jose and Maria treat you like family. Our room was huge with a nice bathroom. One of very few hotels that had plenty of outlets for charging electronics! Has a lovely patio on the rooftop, although we weren't able to take advantage of it. There is an elevator. Jose and Maria had the best breakfast ever! Homemade jams and pastries and lots of fruits in addition to the meats, cheeses, and big variety of breads. Good coffee too. Stay here on your tour of the Douro Valley.

Pros: Beautifully renovated grand old building, the warmest welcome you could hope to find, generous hosts, the best breakfast ever. Only a small town but some very good local restaurants within five minutes walk.
Cons: We were happy with our choice
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Charming hotel, warm welcoming owners! Located in a small town on the hills near Douro river. We had a view to the old church and to quite a nice sun rise. Very nice baby bed was prepared for our baby and the adult beds were big and comfortable. Breakfast was very rich, with an amazing selection of cakes and fruit, so one needs to control oneself not to eat too much.
Cons: Strange specific smell in the bathroom, not sure what it was really. Perhaps someone should check the ventillation system?

Pros: A beautiful casa in Regu - just off the A2. It was an oasis of calm and beauty with a great view of the valley. our unit was in the annex - we had a patio - we sat and drank wine and just enjoyed the beautiful evening. The room was spacious and well appointed. The breakfast was fabulous. The staff were all friendly and helpful

Pros: Our stay in Peso da Régua was great, in great part because Casa de São Domingos' staff made us feel at home. The hotel is comfortable, the team is quirky and pays attention to every detail, the house is beautiful and the pool is perfect after a day exploring the Quintas.
Cons: No criticism!

Cons: Nothing. Everything was great.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff was generous and helpful. Easy pick up and drop off from the train station. Helpful with activities. Great breakfast and abundant honey bar at the pool and in the house stocked with locals wines and spirits. Location was perfect, easy to walk into town for dinner or to catch the train to Pinhão. Rooms themselves were super comfortable. We stayed in the B wing with a small terrace looking out over the pool and vineyards. Highly recommend as a base for exploring Douro.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything
Cons: Found nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Room overlooking the pool and hillside was relaxing wI think patio, table and chairs. Staff was very accommodating. We missed dinner and they prepared a platter of bread, cheese, and meats. Fridge by the pool has cold drinks, beer, and wine by glass or bottle. Breakfast has large selection and eggsee and omelets by order.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: I’ve read several reviews saying it’s dangerous to walk to restaurants in town. We followed Sylvia’s directions and found it perfectly safe, with a steep uphill return which is common in Portugal. We loved everything about the place. We booked late and were lucky to get a spot here in September, so can’t really complain about the tiny attic room with tiny balcony. Book early and get a larger room!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa de Sao Domingos, we only stayed one night however we wished we'd of stayed for longer because the property and the area were absolutely beautiful. The villa was spotlessly clean, the beds had fresh bedding and were very comfortable. The views from the terraces and swimming pool were amazing. The overall feel of the Villa was luxurious but without the hefty price tag. No expense was spared for the continental breakfast, variety of dishes to suit all dietary needs, the omelette we both had was freshly cooked and tasty. The customer service we received from the owner and son was very good, lovely people and helpful. We would definitely book again when next in the area.
Cons: We struggled to find anything we didn't like about our stay. Only one tiny insignificant issue, the hairdryer in the room kept cutting out however I'm sure if I had mentioned it to the staff it would have been replaced immediately. This comment is just for the owner's attention as we forgot to mention it when leaving.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: This is a lovely property in excellent condition. Our room was spacious and well appointed. The breakfast offerings were fresh and plentiful. There is a pool, which we did not use, but other guests did. It is close to centro Peso da Regua, an easy walk down, but a task walking back up. We especially commend Manual, who was managing things while we were at Sao Domingos. He is a very compentent, warm and caring individual who readily extends himself to be helpful to guests.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Charming room, great pool and great breakfast.
Cons: Nothing

Pros: The warmest of welcomes from Elisabete who helped us plan our stay to make the most of this gorgeous area of Portugal. Comfortable rooms in a traditional home set on a working vineyard. A delightful swimming pool overlooking the hills. The breakfast is absolutely delicious - freshly squeezed orange juice, homemade jams, wonderful cheeses, proper coffee and rustic bread! We approve !!!!!
Cons: I would have loved to have stayed longer.

Pros: A beautiful location in the Douro valley. It’s a charming older home immaculately maintained by Elisabete and her mother. Elisabete is very friendly and shares excellent travel tips, local breakfast foods and other specialties. We experienced an intimate port and wine tasting experience in her cellar. Staying at this Quinta was like visiting a friends home. You won’t want to miss this opportunity.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Elisabete's place was amazing! I only wish I could have stayed longer there! She and her mother were so friendly and hospitable. The house is very well maintained and located in such a beautiful spot in the Douro Valley. The pool was great, and is a fantastic way to spend a lazy afternoon. The breakfast provided was one of the best I had during my entire trip. I highly recommend doing the wine tasting - all the wines were delicious and Elisabete is very knowledgeable.
Cons: I wish I could have stayed longer!

Pros: Local family and vintners sharing their home and love of wines with their guests. We felt so welcomed and part of the family almost immediately.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had an amazing stay here, definitely recommend Quinta do Fôjo! The house is beautiful and authentic and you can see Elisabete and her mom treat it with love, same as they treat their guests. We felt at home and very comfortable. From the moment we placed our booking to the moment we checked out, Elisabete provided great service and was helping us and giving us tips for our tourism around. Superb breakfast with local produce and home made compotes. We even managed to enjoy the pool since the sun came out! Love this place and will definitely be back! Muito obrigada!
Cons: Wish we could have stayed longer.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Can’t say enough about the Quinta. The accommodations were first rate. The family home is beautiful; so much character. The setting is heaven. We only wish we had more time to extend our trip. Our hosts were exceptional.
Cons: We loved everything.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: - Amazing hosts: friendly, very helpful with a wide knowledge about wines and Duoro valley - Fantastic location - it might be a challenge to get there without a car but as a reward you get peaceful view on the vineyards and nature - The house and the family have quite interesting history - I strongly reccomended to experience the wine tasting or get a picnic basket from the owner, the wine made in this Quinta is delicious - One of the best breakfast which I had in my trip to Portugal - most of the products are home made (like jams) or picked up from the garden. You also get the option to taste local cheese - There are few smaller cities near by where you can have a nice dinner, it's good to ask the host for the restaurant reccomendations (we did = no regrets) - Very nice pool - I wish we could stay longer :)
Cons: It was absolutely perfect :)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Quinta do Fojo is simply the best place to stay in Douro Valley. The view from the house is astonishing. You can ask for picnic hampers to consume outside. Even if the weather is bad there's a roof in front of the swimming pool (which is very cool). I can only add that if you want to live the best relaxing experience then Quinta do Fojo is what you're looking for. A special thanks goes to Elisabete for her kindness, she is the real jewel of the place.

Pros: Very luxurious hotel, large and beautiful rooms, all very modern A balcony with lovely views and surrounded by flowering gardens. Excellent breakfast. A wine tour at 17:00 in the afternoon is very nice and included in the price. We loved very much
Cons: No one mention that we need to book a place for the spa. We arrived to the hotel early in the afternoon to enjoy the facilities because we came to celebrate a special event. Unfortunately we could not use the spa because it was busy at the time. We came for one night and could not use it for the next day
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic rooms with beautiful views of the vines. Bathroom facilities excellent and such a comfy bed! The communal areas are beautifully finished too. The free wine tour and tasting was 10/10!!! Thank you and we are excited to visit again.

Pros: The bed was amazing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This was by far my favorite hotel in Portugal. I was just expecting a nice place to stay in the Duoro region. What we got was a five star boutique hotel experience that was more than we ever imagined! The complimentary tour and wine tasting were comprehensive and generous. I highly recommend dinner for your first night because after the wine tour you will be in no state to drive...nor will you want to, the property is gorgeous. You are also given fresh fruit and a small bottle of wine your room, compliments of the hotel. The property is covered in fruit trees and you are welcome to pick some or they have piles of fresh fruit throughout you can just take from. They also have a beautiful sauna/hot tub/turkish bath area in the orchard that you can book to have all to yourself for an hour. Staff were wonderful, our room in the old building (built in the 1700s) was spectacular and beautiful. In the morning I did the hike to the top of the property which took me an hour round trip with copious stops for photos (am do hike regularly though, so maybe 1.5 to 2 for those for whom uphill is a workout). I felt like I was living in a dream while at Quina Do Vallado and will definitely come back if I'm even in Portugal again.
Cons: Nothing, it was perfect.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was absolutely gorgeous. One of the nicest experiences I have ever had. The tour, the pleasant staff and beautiful surroundings are impeccable. There are only a few rooms so it is not crowded. I highly recommend this to anyone who stays in Douro valley and wants to do something special.
Cons: There is nothing not to like at this property.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff, facilities and food - exceptional. The spa is just fabulous as was the wine tasting.
Cons: Nothing.

Pros: From the beautiful views and scenery of the Douro Valley, to the amazing service provided by the staff - Quinta do Vallado is an amazing place to stay. The breakfast is amazing and the facilities impressive. You will feel at home while on holiday. Love the decoration and atmosphere. If you have a chance, I recommend having their special dinner menu in the evening. Their wine tasting experience is complete and informative. Overall our expectations were met and even exceeded! Thank you for the amazing stay.
Cons: I would have prefer a warmer shower, but that is a minor thing. :)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Just perfect place to rest
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everyhing! First of all, the tour with vicente was amazing and full of interesting information regarding the winery and the proccess behind the wines. Dinner is highly recommended! The food is great and the cost included few glasses of wine as well. The rooms are quick big and it was really fun sitting on the balcony drinking wine. Great value for money! I wish to go back there someday
Cons: I booked a room in the new wing but i've been told at the arrival that we will sleep at the old building. That been said, after i showed the receptionist what i order she resolved it as quick as possible.

Pros: Our stay at Casa Jéronimo was amazing. The facilities were great, the bed was huge, we slept well. The towels and other linens were like new, in great condition. The bathroom was huge and everything was very clean. Breakfast was great. Also we could make use of his family's private swimming pool. All in all, a great stay!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was excellent in both food and hosting for our four day stay. All facilities are new and well designed. Co-location with a cafe and large supermarket is very helpful and means that guests are at the centre of village activity. Joao and all the Jeronimo family are friendly and supportive of their guests and go to great lengths to provide for every need, facilitating transport to town, and providing local information and guidance. They were always ready to please and did a great job in making our stay memorable. A great place to relax and enjoy the Douro Valley in an out-of-town village atmosphere.
Cons: Nothing - even the weather was good in early June.

Pros: I wish we had stayed a week. Beautiful
9.2 Excellent
Pros: This guesthouse is very beautiful, well located just a few minutes from Régua and a 10 minute drive from Lamego. We received a warm welcome from Julia, the daughter, who showed us our 2 rooms on the ground floor. The rooms are very comfortable with a spacious en suite shower room. There is a nice court yard with a pool, ideal to have an afternoon break or a relaxing evening as there are several cosy sitting areas. Breakfast was nicely presented with fresh products : a good selection of bread, pastery, fruit, nice coffee. The tables were set up very beautiful, with an eye for little details, nice back ground music,..
Cons: From the description we had the impression the rooms were going to have a small terrace as it says in the general description (this is a copy paste) : Its modern rooms are air-conditioned and have a small veranda with pool views. As there is a very nice courtyard to be used by all guests that´s just a minor issue, but I would change this in the description to avoid misunderstandings. Tip : It would be nice if there would be an option to have a drink by the pool, either a small fridge on the room or just one public fridge on the courtyard (an honesty bar)
10.0 Excellent

Pros: We booked on very short notice for our stay in the Douro-Valley and enjoyed a very warm welcome by our host-family: they even cooked a dinner for us which we enjoyed with the other guests in their spacious kitchen - and it was delicious! The room is in a historical family owned property, was spacious and had a small balcony where we could enjoy the morning sun. Breakfast was one of a kind, ranging from extremely delicious homemade marmalades, local cheese to fresh cake - so many things to try and love. The owners really create a home away from home and we can absolutely recommend staying here.

Pros: Amazing experience. Luis Miguel and Zulmira are the best host. The place is beautiful, clean and the service is just outstanding! Try the bread... the Porto wine and the olive oil. You will want to come back for more. We were are a group of 8 and we can’t wait to go back!
Cons: There was nothing that we disliked.

Pros: Wonderful stay in Casa da Azenha, we were made to feel very comfortable by the family and staff who went out of their way to make our trip very special. Pros: One of the most beautiful and peaceful places I have ever been.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A beautiful, peaceful location! Anna was very helpful planning local outings.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: When the gate to casa anzenha opened we entered a Portugese fairy tale! It was even more beautiful than we hoped. The big and lush garden is lovely to walk through or sit in. It is full of flowers, tropical plants, orange and other fruit trees, little romantic seats, fountains, candle lit lanterns at night, views over the vineyards and not to forget there's a great pool, on one side deep enough to dive. The interior, the furniture of the rooms is so tasteful with antiques mixed with bright colors, we got inspired by it! The new ac was a nice surprise for us, it worked really well. We only had to switch it on briefly to have a nicely chilled room for the entire night. The beds are made and the bins emptied every day by very nice people. And then there's Anna, a dream host! She makes sure her guests have absolutely everything they need, from making reservations for boats or restaurants to finding swimming spots. She has a good sense of humour. The owner welcomed us late at night. She is very friendly too, told us a bit about the history of Casa Azenha (how it has been in the family of her husband for 400 years) and checks regularly if all is good and she came by with glasses of port. We could feel the love of the people of Casa Azenha everywhere: they look after their beautiful place and their guests so well! Breakfast is served outside on a large table where with the other guests, which is a nice way to talk to other guests. One day it rained and we were welcomed in the main house in a beautiful palace-like diner room. Casa Azenha is small scale and that gives it a wonderful homely feel. It was a magical week, thank you so much!
Cons: The only thing we did not like was that we had to leave...:-)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We were welcomed by Ana with some fresh homemade lemonade and some tips of which Quintas to visit in the region. The breakfast was fresh and delicious and you could order picnics to take walking with you around the vineyard or out with you when exploring the Douro. The staff were so very accommodating and went out of their way to make our stay comfortable, they'd call and make reservations on our behalf. We booked an extra night within the first half an hour, we loved it so much.
Cons: Everything was great.
10.0 Excellent
Cons: Exceeded our expectations

Pros: The rooms were clean and comfortable. The gardens were beautiful. So relaxing. It had a lovely swimming pool and plenty of space to sit or lounge in the sun. Great breakfast where all the guests sit around a big table (outside in warm weather) and chat about their travels. Abundant trees to pick your own fruit. Lovely staff who couldn't be more helpful.
Cons: Nothing. This place has everything we needed for a relaxing stay and in an excellent location

Pros: We loved everything about Quinta do Terreiro. The accomodation itself is fabulous, so much history. Then the grounds are beautiful, the breakfast on the veranda is delicious and the the staff are wonderful. In my opinion they could not have done more to make our visit more welcoming, comfortable or memorable. They’re suggestion for dinner lead us to a delightful little restaurant that we would never have found on our own. It was nice to stay in smaller village away from the hustle and bustle of the larger towns. Quinta do Terreiro was a highlight of our visit to Portugal.

Pros: "Oh my God, I wish I had booked for a week", My wife when we first saw the rooms. We had both rooms. Included is a full kitchen, eating area, living room and terrace. Five min. walk to the santuary, 15 to city center, another 15 to the castle. The owners are super nice and an encyclopedia of the surrounding area. Don't let the name mislead you. You will love it!
Cons: It was all good
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything location quiet and clean on hill beautiful scenery
Cons: That I did not stay another night
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was up above Lamego and a short walk to a famous church. We had the guesthouse, which was lovely, to ourselves for the two nights. The hostess (and one of the owners) Clara gave us great suggestions for exploring the Douro valley and spent time with us sharing her considerable knowledge of local and not so local wine. I highly recommend this property.

Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Best place in valley, grate location, love the view and super clean rooms.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I loved just about everything about this place. It was exactly what I needed to feel refreshed after 3 months of traveling. Everything was clean and the room was decorated in a way that made you feel cozy and right at home. The windows fill the room with natural light and it feels so nice to have them open at night. It's so quiet and in the morning you hear the birds. You can order food or wine and eat it where you please. The vineyard is lovely to explore and there's a path that takes you to the top of the stairs of the Santuario Dos Remedios, this was my favorite way to get to and from town. If I ever get married, I'd love to come back for a honeymoon but this also made for an amazing solo get away.
Cons: The only downside was that it was a little higher up away from town than I had expected , especially traveling by foot. However this soon turned out to be one of the best parts of this place. The views were amazing and the birds were happy as well, I loved listening to them rather than the noise of the city. Also, the taxis are cheap and the owner offers a lift into town if he's available.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was perfect!!! The clearest, cozy room with perfect Mountain View and air, very caring and hospitality owner, in our villa we found everything we need (glasses for wine, teapot, cutlery, cooker and etc). Thank you for great accommodation!
Cons: not found
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful apartment in s tranquil setting. This apartment is one of three within this complex which includes a sitting/ lounge area, small kitchen area( fully equipped) with a terrace area attached. Sitting eating breakfast or sipping something cool on the terrace, looking out on the countryside listening to the birds makes it hard to imagine that the historic centre is actually within walking distance. There are also washing facilities which for the average traveller is a bonus. We almost overlooked this gem as it has been described as camping as the apartment complex is situated within the grounds of a larger area inclusive of campground( never visually spotted)& facilities for campervans. The setting is more of an estate with beautifully tended spacious grounds. A surprise which, had we known existed, we would have spent the duration of our time as the Douro valley and obviously the toen( a delight) is all there. Highly recommended. Cannot praise enough as the service provided matched the lovely setting.
Cons: Nothing to dislike
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Our hosts were friendly and attentive and very relaxed. They made every effort to make our stay in their lovely property comfortable.
Cons: It would be really difficult to make any criticism however small
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had a room with private bath in the main building. The property has excellent location on the hill with a very nice view of Lamego, very quiet and at the same time in the city. Exceptionally clean, there is a living room with a kitchen for Guests use which is very nice, excellent location is you are visiting Douro valley, Lamego is a very nice city and we used it as a basic location to visit the vineyards in Douro. The property Manager Clara and her husband are very welcoming, ready to help you with everything you need. Lamego was the highlight of our Portugal trip thanks to Camping Lamego. Thank you!

9.6 Excellent
Pros: One of the highlights of our trip was staying at this centuries-old working farm in the heart of the Douro. Our host was lovely, and the views and ambiance at the property were without parallel. Great breakfast in the morning, which featured cut persimmons from the host's garden.
Cons: The only thing I didn't like was I only stayed here one night.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful Quinta with wonderful hosts. View was amazing! Could not have been better.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: excellent hosts, great breakfast, friendly, despite the language barrier.
Cons: Double beds with semi comfy pillows.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Marvelous view of the Douro surrounded by winery
Cons: Just two restaurants close by one is a Michelin one star and the other is not good. You can buy food at supermarket in next town but no possibility to cook
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Extremely hospitable host and despite the limited English able to communicate. Excellent breakfast.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: We were recommended this place thru a friend who had stayed there and were not disappointed. Despite the language barrier we were made to feel welcome and the place has a lovely charm to it. The view out over the Douro Rivers was fantastic and we enjoyed having a swim in the pool. We were unsure of what dining options were nearby so had stocked up at a supermarket before arrival and enjoyed that food in the courtyard. We highly recommend Quinta for at least one night but longer would have been better.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: This house is a gem and and its owners are extremely welcoming. Make sure Damiao shows you the port wine cellar - it's educational plus you might get a complimentary glass of excellent vintage port. We bought several bottles: it was such good value. Previous reviewers had all commented on the fantastic breakfast and we were not disappointed. You have to share the breakfast table with the other guests but it's a great way of striking up conversations with interesting people.
Cons: Shower curtain rail collapsed.
7.0 Good
Pros: our bedroom window looked out onto a scene of rural tranquility and the duoro river; a place to get away from it. nearby are good-to-great restaurants and an outstanding vineyard and tasting room (quinta do tedo).
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Owner of the Qunita is welcoming each guest nicely and is very helpful. Nice is as well that breakfast is in the family kitchen on one big table with all hotel guests, thsu you get to know some persons during your trip. Our room was nicely decorated (roses behind the bed on the wall) and had an breathtaking view to the river and the Douro valleys. The most excisting was that the owner invited the guests to produce wine by stepping on the grapes.
Cons: Driving up to the Quinta is in narrow streets, but at least the way is short, well marked with signs and on the evenings there is enough light.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very good countryside hotel in a very nice region with a tremendous view to Douro river. The owners are very kind and are there always to help. The breakfast was served in the kitchen owners and was delicious. If you want to rest, you must choose this countryside hotel because you will only hear the birds in the morning. The hotel have a covered place to park at least 6 cars. Quinta da Azenha is higly recomended!
7.0 Good
Pros: We stayed in 9 hotels in Portugal. This is the most excellent one. The host is genuinely nice, not just being commercial. He has his own cellar making port. We were offered unlimited amount of welcome drinks (home made port). Although we did not had dinner at the hotel, we were offered some soup, dessert, wine and dessert free. The house is nicely decorated in a traditional Portugal style. The location is incredible with a fantastic view of the river. It is like traveling back in time to a quite Portugal village for a very authentic experience.
Cons: Not near any big city. You have got to drive. No internet - a blessing if you want a real break!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel family were very hospitable, the location is good for the Douro region.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: This is the best place of stay during our 14-days trip in Portugal. We have never stayed in the 600-years old house, we have never drunk such a tasty port wine made by the owner, and we have never met such hospitable owners. Damien and Louise very good speak French. They can provide you with all necessary information. And what delicious baked pudding and egg desert have been prepared by Louse. This is a calm and quiet place for a rest; there are magnificent views to the river and vineyards. The hotel is well-equipped cozy and comfortable. There are direction signs to the hotel on the road. The best way to come is to turn on the second second sign (from the side of Regua). The parking area is enough for 6 cars.
Cons: The field for comments above is too small for all my opinion about the hotel

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The peacefulness, spectacular view from all the rooms. Close to wine tasting farms
Cons: Restaurant food and wine expensive
6.7 Good
Pros: Modern and good location, with parking generally good condition though issues with intermittent Wi-Fi and air con.
Cons: Very stripped down rooms, ie no tissues, tea or coffee making facilities etc. More like holiday inn express rather than a luxury hotel. Breakfast fairly basic and instead of nice atmosphere we had staff loudly arguing on day 2.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The location is perfect for view and access to the area. The front desk was so helpful on check in. Thanks to Alexandra and Tatiana. We were rushing off to a river cruise and they did everything quickly and put our bags in our rooms. We returned late and had drinks in the reception area overlooking the river - amazing. Service by Maria was very nice. We loved this place and will recommend it to everyone~
Cons: They need a morning coffee station in the lobby/ reception area rather than going to the next floor.

Cons: Coffee in the breakfast, wasn't good at all (the espresso was OK)
7.9 Good
Pros: Dinner was excellent and the terrace pool area was very relaxed, allowed us to chill out in peaceful surroundings
Cons: Staff not obvious. We felt we were having to bother reception all the time to get our pre dinner drinks as no staff on the bar, towels for the pool etc
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The dinner and breakfast were great. Special thanks to the bartender who understood the gastronomy and service at its best.
Cons: The WiFi could use some improvement and there are no places to work (like a small business center or so). A small fitness room would top this hotel to world class. Thumbs up
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was ideal. The staff were very attentive without being intrusive or OTT.

3.0 Mediocre
Pros: Too expensive for almost nothing
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Overall the setting was beautiful and relaxing. I can stay in the hotel and just do some reading for a few days. Plenty of public spaces. Restaurants were great! It is so small, that staff know every guest. It felt like a small family.
Cons: Breakfast buffet spread was a little light
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Excellent efficient service, advised of winery activities upon arrival & booked in straight away for no extra cost. Wine tasting experience & susequent extended tasting in wine shop for no extra cost was excellent. The property is extensive & beautiful and the wines are exceptional. Great dinner at the restaurant. Highly recommend staying at this winery.
Cons: There isn’t really a Douro river view if that is important to you but the views are still beautiful. I can’t really fault anything else.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: We stayed in the barrels which were amazing. Harvest wine treading experience great fun.
Cons: No bar area but they were building a new part of the hotel. Only one waiter at breakfast who was rushed off his feet. Therefore continually had to wait for everything
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staying in the Wine Barrells was an amazing experience.
7.0 Good
Pros: An interesting location in a working vineyard. The hotel staff were helpful within the constraints of the operation. We stayed in the unique wine barrel cabins, separate from the hotel. They contain all that you need and have a deck outside the large opening window that fills one end of the barrel looking out over the vineyard. We had dinner in the excellent restaurant with its enthusiastic, attentive staff, good food and advice on local wines and ports. Good breakfasts.
Cons: The hotel policy is to charge the full amount to the booking credit card one week in advance, which meant that one person had to pay for the other two couples, when they could easily charge the full amount to the card 7 days later in the event of a no show. The booking terms are not sufficiently explicit. The barrel cabins are quite a walk in the rain, but this may change when the hotel extensions are complete. The cabins are supposed to be private, but vineyard visitors make their way up through the vineyard from the car park to take photos. The car park for hotel guests is shared with tour busses and others visiting the vineyard for tastings etc. This sounds like a lot of carping for what was a pleasant enough stay, but at this sort of price others do it much better.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: kind service, very good location, the room was nice, very good breakfast The tour of the winery and the tasting that the place gives its guests at no extra charge - a plus
Cons: The restaurant adopted the mannerisms of an upscale chef restaurant, which was unjustified. Dinner did not meet those standards, a relatively small selection, high price and small portions. The public places of the hotel are too close to the rooms, disturbing those who want peace and quiet, especially when staying with children and families
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great breakfast, thank you for the ticket to the wine & food event. The host who helped us was fabulous, very helpful and fun!
6.7 Good
Pros: Hotel reception was beautiful. Room was very good, but needed tea/coffee making facilities. The location, set within a vineyard, was excellent.
Cons: The design of the dining room wasn’t to our taste, and the quality of the food at both dinner and breakfast was below average. Would you believe that we ordered 2 bottles of champagne that were off ( and this is a vineyard) and the third try barely drinkeable.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Dinner was one of the best meals I ever had anywhere (and I am a seasoned traveler) Absolutely delicious food and all the waiters/waitresses were spectacular (knowledgeable, friendly) Reception staff was friendly, efficient, happy and accommodating Kudos to Housekeeping! Outstanding job! Room and bathroom were impeccably clean and neat Wine shop staff very knowledgeable and helpful! Everyone I encountered was just amazing! The only disappointment was that all the sleeping barrels were not available and as well I could not stay an extra day or two because you were sold out (but all that was my own fault)
Cons: Liked everything and everyone! Will be back again someday

Pros: The property and its location is excellent and provides a fantastic base for a vacation. Our appartment was especially good for our family of 4 (incl 2 children).
Cons: Nothing
7.1 Good
Pros: View was beautiful and the grounds were lovely. Nice pool area but the water was too cold for a swim even though the temperature was 80 degrees plus. Breakfast was served in a dining room with a view. The coffee was hot and hot milk was provided. Rolls, homemade jams, yogurt, meats, cheeses, fruit and sweet breads as well as croissants were available.
Cons: The road to the hotel was straight up a winding road and super scary at night. There is one restaurant near the hotel and it is even farther up the winding road. The beds were uncomfortable but the area is very quiet.

Pros: Peace and quiet. Superb views over the River Douro. Only 5-10 minutes to drive to Regua for visits, boat trips, restaurants - once you know the way. Easy to find once you find the exit road from Regua to Fontelas. Nearby restaurant to the property is a 5 minute drive but a testing uphill walk, called Veranda de Douro - has great views and a good choice of food. The actual building at Nostra Senhora de Carmo has been beautifully and carefully restored and has a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere. There are plenty of places to sit and relax, read or admire the scenery (indoors and outdoors) and a good swimming pool. Safe parking is provided opposite the main entrance to the property. Our host was extremely kind and courteous, helpful with local information and recommendations.
Cons: Nothing. Perhaps a bit more variety at breakfast - some eggs would have been nice.

Pros: Everthing!!! Hospitality, attention to detail, friendliness and a sense that you are at home away from home with touch of Douro flair. Amazing xxx

Cons: breakfast and coffe
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing location with great view. Pool was just the thing we needed. Rooms comfortable in a very nice old winery. Host was nice and often available, would do everything for you. The possibility to rent bikes was great.
Cons: All in all a bit expensive. The room was on the small side for what you paid for. Also you'd have to pay a premium for all the 'extra's' (pool towels for example). Amenities like coffee or a beer were on the expensive side (1,5 euro for a nespresso while an average Portugese café charges 1 euro for a fresh coffee). Bike rental on the expensive side (though we are used to dutch bike rent prices...)
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Winery Sta Julia that is close Breakfast
Cons: Acsses

Pros: Beautiful location. Bit of an adventure to find but well worth it. We stayed in the holiday house with comfortable double bed and sofa bed for the kids. Well equipped for self catering. Lovely decorated. Very clean. Air conditioning. Fantastic breakfast. Very welcoming host.
Cons: Sat nav was useless! If you get lost phone the host Olga. She is lovely.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The ambience was relaxing and quiet with space to enjoy the location and proximity to surrounding attractions. Breakfasts were excellent. They were plentiful and changes were negotiable. The manager, Olga, went well beyond our expectations of a host. She was cheerful, welcoming and took us under her wings. She worked hard to bridge the Portuguese to English language challenges between us and made a real effort to learn more English from us.
Cons: The property is difficult to find because GPS directions and Google maps can be unreliable. This could be overcome by ensuring that you receive detailed instructions from Cascata do Varosa. Road access to the villa is quite awkward and rough. Some simple additions would improve facilities: Hair dryer, salt and pepper and sugar, a vegetable peeler and insect spray. More expensive would be insect screens over openings. These suggestions are meant to be helpful rather than critical

Pros: When you are driving across the valley you never expect such a place!!! Perfect for having rest! It’s a tiny village of 5-6 separate houses with your own barbecue fireplace, fresh river and...your own waterfall! The staff is amazing - Olga, thanks for a wonderful evening! Everyone who travels across Portugal by car has to visit this calm and peaceful place.
Cons: None
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Outstanding personalized welcoming by owners. Brand new facilities, tastefully designed and decorated. Clean and comfortable. The cascade that crosses the property is a bonus with its soothing sound.
Cons: A bit hard to find, and the little road leading to the property a bit tricky, but doable.
