Afterwards Blanca took care of the car parking for us (is for free) The design of the room was great, comfotables beds and an amazing bathroom with a large shower and a shower-toilet. The room was rather small but very elegant and quiet. Drinks were for free (wine beer water ) Very good location mainly because Blanca and Maria could not have been more attentive. Blanca devoted plenty of time in helping us with all kind of questions. (like excursions, restaurants , Chillida Leku etc.) Maria does an excellent job in all kind of housekeeping Would definetely recommend Villa Birdie to friends

Pros: BE CAREFUL DO NOT STAY HERE. The owner/manager is totally crazy. She was talking to us so rudely and she sequestered us for 2 hours because she thought I stole a book and some custards ( absolutely wrong ) She went in the room and in my luggage who was closed and then blocked us from leaving. I had to call the police to be able to leave. The police told us to press charges against her becaus she is crazy and totally illegal. She also tried to make us pay one more night because we left the room at 12:07 instead of 12. The hotel is kitsch the bedroom are very small and the pool is cold. The breakfast is disgusting. The croissants ( the only thing they give you except fruits ) are from few days ago. The hotel smells like cheap car perfume. She also confessed to my fiancé that she was a criminal. This place is not safe.

Pros: We were made very welcome. Blanca and Maria were the perfect hosts. Blanca was very helpful and gave us some superb recommendations and organised a taxi and restaurant booking for us to a place we would never have discovered ourselves. Maria served a delightful breakfast and was very friendly and attentive.

Great relaxing at the quite and refreshing pool after discovering exiting and busy San Sebastian. Pros: The host gave us a warm welcome and explained a lot about San Sebastián, what to do, where to eat. Very friendly and communicative! The room was much better than we expected! The bed was very comfortable, the bathroom clean, the location more than great. You only walk 5 minutes to the beach, 5-10 minutes to the old town, and 10-15 minutes to the modern suburb called „Gros“. If we’ll be in San Sebastián again we will definitely book this hotel again! Absolutely five stars!

Pros: A perfect little gem tucked close by to the old town. Only a five minute walk to all the magnificent pintxos bars with so many to choose from! Jon was a fantastic host, recommending so many great bars, restaurants and sight seeing locations. He was very obliging and helpful in many ways, going over and beyond with any questions or help we required. I highly recommend Pension Buenpas, give it a go, you won’t be disappointed!

Cons: We were disappointed with the communication with the pension. We wrote to them and told them that our television didn’t work, due to no signal, and the wifi signal was very weak and fell out quite often, but we never got any answer. So we had four days without signals or with very poor signals. Room no. 3. Minor things: the tea and coffee facilities are outside the rooms. The balcony is a socalled French balcony where you cannot sit. The pension didn’t provide shampoo etc. only soap.

Cons: Hardly any space to hang clothes in the bedroom. No hooks in the bathroom to put your towels and/or clothes when you take a shower. There was a shelf near ground level but I don't like my clothes near the floor. There was also a tiny stool with just enough space to put your washbag. I got a room where I had to share my bathroom with another room and the people I had to share it with left towels and clothes on the floor so I think there should have been a note in the bathroom indicating and reminding the guests that this is a shared bathroom and needs to be left as they found it (in principal, tidy).

Cons: The walls were paper thin. There was a child in the room beside us and I could hear him stomping on the floors to their shared bathroom during the day and well into the evening. At 3 am, he was yelling and I could hear a neighbor telling his father that the kid was waking them up as well. Which was helpful to me cause I felt too shy to tell them they were keeping me up.

My friend an I initially booked a double room and had another friend suddenly join the trip, so the staff was super helpful in helping us change our booking to a triple room. Beds were quite comfortable and the shower was awesome. Amazing water pressure and temperature. Like, I've had better showers there than in some 5* hotels. The location can't be beat. We were approximately 2-5 min away from all of the most recommended Pinxto bars, right next to the main street so that taxis can drop you off since the whole old town is pedestrian only, and about 5-7 min from La Concha beach and the pier. Gros and its surf friendly beach was also less than 10 minutes away. Since we came from Bilbao, we arrived by bus and had a quick 12-15 min walk to the place. We only stayed for 3 days, so that's all we managed to truly explore. The staff, as I mentioned above, was super friendly and cooperative. In addition to a ton of great tips and recommendations, we could burrow plush beach towels and received a little welcome gift. This was also perhaps the first place were I've ever been told that all drinks in the mini-bar were included. Honestly, in terms of value for money and quality, I was super impressed. Definitely would stay there (or would be interested in checking out one of their other two properties) again.

Cons: The bed was super duper uncomfortable and honestly it completely ruined our entire stay. When you’re paying this much per night you expect at least a comfortable bed. Instead it was rock hard and we could feel the springs through the bed. Put both of our backs out. The room itself was also super tiny, especially the bathroom and I just dont think it’s worth paying this much for something so average. In hindsight we would have been better off staying. Was the worst stay we had in all of Spain.

We complained twice that the air conditioning wouldn't stay on for more then 30 minutes without resolution. On the first night there was a loud noise from some part of the ventilation system. When we complained we were told that there was the same noise in all the rooms. The room was small, and the with the layout of the room and the shower / toilet area the toilet was only just not visible from the bed. The outside area you would have to go outside into the street, round the corner on to the next street and in through another gate. Perhaps none of these were huge issues, but for the money we paid (and I accept that San Sebastian is not a cheap place) we should not have had these sort of niggles. And I say all this as someone who very rarely gives bad reviews; I'm not sure when I last did.

The staff did not speak much English , but they were very amiable and pleasant. The place does not offer breakfast, but there are a choice of cafes within a 10 minutes walk. In the house they also offer free coffee. All in all a great experience in what it appears to be still an hidden gem.

Cons: The hotel is on a steep hill so the road traffic was quite noisy due to the fact that cars and motorbikes had to gear down to make the hill. Our bathroom was not in our room, it was next door. There was no fan in the room to circulate the air. It was unusually hot weather when we arrived. Also there was no blowdryer.

Don't trust that place.

If you are looking for peace and quiet, this might not be the place for you, or use the earplugs the guesthouse provides!
