9.5 Excellent (507 reviews)
Overview Reviews
When you stay at Casa das Proteas in Santana, you'll be 11 minutes by car from Madeira Theme Park. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Chilling at the pool after long hikes. Pool Billard available. Cats to carress.
Cons: It would be helpful and good, if rubbish bins could be provided in the room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Our stay was absolutely lovely! When we arrived Teresa was out of town but Luis (I hope I got the name right :) ) showed us around and was very helpful. We felt at home straightaway. Teresa is a lovely host, that knows how to comfort her guests. The service was great and the breakfast plentiful (included in the price). We booked a small double room, but there's a living room and a lovely terrace, so you don't need the extra space. Having a pool is a great option, too, if just to hang out for a couple of hours. I would definitely come back and can fully recommend Casa das Proteas to anyone looking for an excellent accommodation.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It felt like home! With a great plus of not having to tidy or clean anything yourselves!
Cons: X
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Quite place. Easy to find because we received indication from Teresa. Good home made dinner at fare price. Nice view.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Very clean Very welcoming and nice host! Good breakfast Nice room and bathroom
Cons: Location is per se very nice (view on the sea), but you need the car to go everywhere
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Teresa is the perfect host - a really nice person, always friendly and helpful. Good breakfast and dinner (on request). We will definitely be back!
Cons: Everything was fine. A pool "heating" would be nice - but it was an exceptional cold July, so we did not mind.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice location, quiet but close to many nice spots to see and walk through. The house itself is also very nice, and the owner Teresa was taking care that everyone feels comfortable and have everything needed. Teresa offers also to prepare the dinners, which are home made and very good price (the fish was delicious, and the meat espetada she prepared was the best we have tried in our stay in the island!). We had booked only 2 nights and decided to extend for another one... we were lucky to have place!! :)
Cons: Nothing...

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The view is amazing. Nice to walk the garden, swim in the pool, and relax in the common area downstairs. The breakfast (9 euros) is really good with various homemade items from the garden. The staff was very nice.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything, absolutely everything!
Cons: Everything was perfect!
6.3 Good
Pros: Geographical situation, calm and peaceful village, except for some dog barking , church bells and roaster noise in the morning, but these definitely had their charm. Breakfast had good home made juice but bread and ham were not the top. Staff at reception very friendly. Nice orange massage from a local lady who came up to the hotel. I would not recommend this hotel if you have no car, as it is very hilly and difficult to get to the centre of Sāo Vicente. The hotel works with a local restaurant called Lavrador whose owner gave us a daily ride to and from his restaurant which was very convenient. We can recommend his food.
Cons: Small room with some damp smell, hardly ever warm water available as switched off during day time in order to save electricity we were told. We consider that if you get a permit to call your place a hotel, you should be able to supply warm water to your guests all day long. The heater did also not work until we found out that a timer reduced the hours of its functioning. As it was raining and really cold, this was annoying for a day, until we removed the timer and had the heating working.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice staff, beautiful view from the terrace. Peaceful and relaxing place. We were given a homemade jam as we left !
Cons: Nothing.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is very beautiful and our garden apartment very cosy. The stuff is super friendly and the service was excellent. Breakfast was very tasty and huge choice of different food
Cons: breakfast relatively expensive but great
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely breakfast from local vegetables and fruits and unforgattable location.
Cons: Pillows
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This site exceeded all preliminary guesses! Personnel were immediately helping us with bags, and everything was smooth and clean. Even as a finnis citizen, we found a sauna by the pool very amusiing. The hotel is located near a nice volcänic tourist site, and the city is reallly quiet, some roosters were giving their noises but that was just fun.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: loved the kind hospitality and the beautiful home grown fruit

10.0 Excellent
Pros: What a plessent surprice! Very helpful and friendly lady to welcome us, showing the garden with fresh herbs for cooking and tea, good breakfast, big sleepingroom, a fireplace in the common room, clean
Cons: All was great!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Helena, the host, is lovely. Generous to a fault, nothing is too difficult, she made our stay truly memorable. The room is huge, the bathroom luxurious, the kitchen extremely well-equipped. The lit fireplace in the living room and the decorated Christmas tree, the selection of Madeira wines, so many thoughtful touches to make our stay wonderful. Breakfast is fantastic, the local ginger cookies and freshly baked cakes spectacular. We'll definitely return. Highly recommended.
Cons: Nothing. Everything was great and exceeded our expectations.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Great place, modern, peaceful, clean and good location if you rent a car. Great breakfast. Gives you independence to explore the island and still feel at home.
Cons: Nothing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Helena was a great host. The room was very clean and comfortable. Kitchen well equipped in order to prepare your meal. Suitable for family with kids.
Cons: *
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed at 5 accomodations at Madeira, but this was the best! Helena was great host and the room was modern equiped and big with amazing view. Then there is shared kitchen and living room if you wish, which are really great, clean. Breakfast was awesome, lot of everything and delicous! We travelled during winter (february/march) so we were the only quests, so we enjoyed the benefits alone and played some games and cards and lighten up the fireplace to have great and romantic evening. For this reason, i highly recommend this stay if you are at Madeira outside season. If we ever visit the island again, this will definitelly be our stay and for longer this time
Cons: my only regret is i cant give more then 10 points for such great accomodation!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Big, spacious room, nice panorama and garden. They washed our clothes. Well equipped kitchen you can cook if you want and can use fresh herbs from the garden. Free tasting of local drinks. Good breakfast with self service, free fruits also.
Cons: We stayed here in March. The house and the room also were cold and the heating was available only for a couple of hours during the evenings. The room temperature drops to around 16-18 Celsius by morning (outside 10 C during the night). Also the shower temperature was rather warm than hot. This decreased our comfort and feel no matter how perfect the house itself had been.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very nice location with VERY good parking spaces, clean apartment with very comfortable bed, beautiful garden, friendly owner, good coffee!
Cons: Shower was a little bit dilapidated, if people are loud in the corridor or common area, you can hear it in your room. Breakfasts were ok, but once it happend that other guests didnt leave any ham&cheese for us. But there was always enough bread, milk, eggs, so we survived anyway ;) Sometimes the kitchen was a bit crowded. However, despite these small inconveniences, I recommend Solar do Carvalho and would come back!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Super nice host, clean, welcoming, warm, at a perfect beautiful location
Cons: If anything, it would be the noises the bed made anytime I moved :D
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was nice and together with kitchen well equiped, bed comfortable. Helena was very nice amd welconing, showed us around, washed our clothes, etc. We had a good time staying around :-)
Cons: Hard to say, we were satisfied :-)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A very friendly welcome and a spacious room with an excellent view. Waking up with the sound of birds and the sheep in the backyard next to the vineyards gave me the idea of staying in a rural area although the small town is only 20 min. away (on foot). Good restaurant (Lavrador) with a great view close by. The house is extremely clean and has a well equipped kitchen if you want to make dinner  yourself. The breakfast is simple but very tasteful. I'll definitely recommend it!
Cons: -

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The apartment has a great view to the ocean and the northern coast of the island. Very cozy and with nice air conditioned. The owner is great and provided the best conditions for a perfect stay. She even improved the booking just for us to have good view and for the same fair price. Very nice village with everything you need for great holidays! The hotel has a cozy restaurant we are going try next time we visit Madeira.
7.5 Good
Pros: Staff, food, pool, location.
Cons: Weak wi fi connection
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very good, we specially enjoyed the gentleman that greeted us and the new girl on the bar.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, the swimming pool is a real bonus This is a great place to stay if you enjoy peace and quiet away from the typical noisy holiday resort . The room /apartment was comfortable, quiet and well equipped . Maria is an attentive host and speaks good English. The view is astonishing and we were sad to leave .Lots of challenging walks in the vicinity
Cons: Nothing! highly recommended Full marks
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: We liked the fact that we asked for the remaining nights money, and it was returned and even another bedroom was offered, but we didn't want to risk ending up in the same situation.
Cons: Our towels smelled like they have been closed in an old wooden/humid armoire for a long time. Even though we asked for them to be changed, they were changed for ones with the same issue. There were spiders under the bed, with their spider webs, along with dead cockroaches and even used contact lenses. Of course the floor was dirty, full of hair from previous guests and none of the armoires/drawers could be opened because of the smell I previously described. Bed sheets weren't changed through the whole stay (5 days until we pressed the STOP button). Bathroom wasn't properly cleaned between each day, and if we want to go a bit deeper, the bed was very small both in width and height. There are much better offers for the value than this one, even in other much more touristique areas.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very good standard of room and materiales used. Pool and sitting areas oustide are lovely. Viuw to the blue ocean and a sunrise. Very friendly owners and staff
Cons: Nothing

9.1 Excellent (183 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in Sao Vicente, North Coast Guest House is a 2-minute drive from Caves of Sao Vicente and Volcanism Center and 9 minutes from Seixal Beach.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely place with beautiful garden. A good place to rest after a day walking. Friendly and helpful hosts. Coffee at breakfast was excellent. The place is nicely decorated with art and books. The large collection of books on Madeira and the walking guides were very useful.
Cons: It would be nice to have a comfortable couch in the living room next to the bedrooms, so that we can also relax there. (But relaxing in the dining room was also fine.)
9.5 Excellent
Pros: We had our accommodation in the very old beautiful house, with a special atmosphere. The garden is marvellous - I counted about 100 different plant species in it, including banana and beautiful tropical flowers (in January:). The owner (Ruben) is a very kind, easy going surf trainer, we followed his suggestions, and we had a great time in Madeira. In case of bad weather you can reach easily the sunshine in 20 minutes on the southern coast. The village is quiet, we liked it very much, not stuffed with tourists. We especially enjoyed very much the nearby levada ( Levada Faja do Rodrigues) which is 10 minutes drive from the house. It is not so touristic like some other levedas, which can be packed with visitors. We recommend Churrascaria Brasa Viva, a grill bar a few hundred meters towards Ponta Delgada. But we were not happy with some of the seafront restaurants in Sao Vicente. (But we recommend the large and always busy coffee shop in the middle of the seafront bars, where you ca get a tasty and cheap cake.)
9.5 Excellent
Pros: My friend and I stayed 2 weeks at Rubens and Andreias place and we had a really good time. We enjoyed our chats in the morning and this familiar atmosphere during our whole stay. We really recommend a stay at North Coast Guest House to get a real feeling of Madeiras Lifestyle.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful home and property! Reuben and his dog were warm and welcoming and helped with surf tips, and the location was great. The other guests staying were really nice as well. Definitely recommend!
Cons: The room was cold (no heating) and damp due to high humidity.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: fabulous interior and homey. Small but cosy.
Cons: guesthouse situated on a hill, not easily accessible without a vehicle.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: View, quiet area, close to city, garden, ART, creativity, pick up from downtown to North Coast, navigation to levada, home athmosphere/feeling
Cons: small shower
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing location! Peaceful, quiet with short walk to the town as well has few nice walks around. Beautiful, well maintained garden where you can enjoy your breakfast overlooking mountains and the sea. You are also can use the kitchen, dining and living room. In the kitchen you can find a fridge, freezer, microwave, kettle and a cooker, which is very convenient if you are planning to cook your own meal. Hosts Roben and Andreia are very accommodating and service-minded hosts. They made us feel very welcomed. We regret that we booked for only two nights. We definitely will be back!.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The host is very nice and welcoming, the breakfast great. It well located, not far away from the village. We even had help with the laundry. I liked in particular the garden. The host checked everyday whether everything was OK.
Cons: A small detail. Some of the artwork was a little bit too politically engaged to my taste but the host explained how he got them as a kind of payment for some work he did.

Pros: Great place to stay for few days in Sao Vicente. Super comfortable beds, all villa is fresh renovated and very clean, kitchen with all equipment, library, big dining room with TV. Rooms are big and have all you need, small lights near the beds, safety boxes, heaters (good for winter). Small balcony will be nice for eating during the summer. Owners are friendly are helpful. What do you need more?)) I walked around a lot, mountains and ocean are amazing and not far from villa. I spent 4 days in Sao Vicente and I would love to go back by chance. Dear Nelson and Sara, thank you a lot for your hospitality!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It has a good friendly atmosphere, a home from home. Great views from the room and a lovely terrace to take the sun
9.3 Excellent
Pros: I had a private room with a balcony and a great view. The staff was helpful.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very pleasant hostel, run by a friendly host who gives good advices and likes to make a chat. Good rooms, good beds, very clean. Nice sitting area and a veranda with nice palmtrees and wonderful views over the valley. Easy parking on the quiet street. The breakfast for just 5€ was abundant!
7.0 Good
Pros: The kitchen was very well equipped, you could find everything you possibly need for cooking. Also, there is a washing machine and dryer which was very helpful.
Cons: The house in winter is freezing cold and the water in the shower is only luke-warm, we were constantly cold and didn't warm up at all. Two days after asking, they turned the heater for the water up so on the last day at least we had a hot shower. They put a small heater in our room which was just enough to get it a little bit warm, still not comfortable. We stayed in different hostels/Airbnbs in Madeira in January, but this one was by far the coldest. There is no staff around, you need to call if there is anything you need help with.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great guy who was really helpful with information about the area. Bed was comfortable with white linin. Extra blankets and white towels. Good kitchen fully equipped. Even a bbq area outside which would be great with friends. Breakfast looked great although plenty even to make a packed lunch out of. I opted to make my own but would next time opt for there’s.
Cons: No signposts to the hostel and only a small sign outside made it hard to find whilst trying to negotiate the hills on a motorbike but I called the guy who gave directions and waiting outside.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Hosts are beautiful people, the hostel is really big and very very clean, the position is excellent for a lot of trekking roads and a very good restaurant is near the hostel! Excellent hostel, really recommended!!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very clean Nice view Very welcoming and helpful host We had the room with private bathroom and private balcony - would recommend!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great starting spot for your Northern Madeira hikes. Nelson you were of cool welcome and help :) The heater provided in the rooms were powerful enough to keep warm. There are lockers, kitchen, wifi, warm showers. There are no breakfast, but you can use the coffee machine for free (at the time of my stay) The washing and drying is cheap (there are both machines)
Cons: More of a joke, be careful with weekend timetables not to miss your buses. Because the ORTHOPEDIC mattresses were SO comfortable that after a long day hike i fell asleep within minutes laying on it ...and forgot to set an alarm clock.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: One of the best hostels ever! The view is amazing and location is excellent especially if you are traveling by car. The staff is really helpfull and fluent in English also. There are nice levadas nearby. We really enjoyed our stay!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Just about everything!! Concesao and Idalina were very warm and helpful. The property is peaceful and spotless. The garden and pool are very relaxing. Idyllic setting - a car is a necessity as the Casa is a few kilometers from Sao Vicente and Calhau, though a few times we took a taxi into town (Gilberto - highly recommended) so we could enjoy a drink(s)!
Cons: The only little problem for us (and we are in the minority, I realize) were the four resident cats, who thought they owned the property.

Pros: Brilliant stay throughout. Spotless little hotel with an owner who goes way beyond normal hospitality rules to make guests' stay memorable. When we arrived it was a National holiday and buses from São Vicente were few and at awkward times: Paulo came and picked us up, pointing out sights and facilities along the way. As other reviews pointed out he's a really good cook and we had two superb meals both evenings we were there. Nice breakfast too with adequate choices but everything was top quality, with good coffee too. Our daughter fell in love with their dog, who's just so cuddly and docile. We enjoyed our stay immensely, the best out of a really good trip so far. Thanks
Cons: Everything was more than fine.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: For the price it was totally worth it - delicious breakfast, beautiful and calm surroundings with an amazing view.
Cons: The walls were quite thin so not the best thing for light sleepers.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Paulo is one of the best host we have ever had, he made us feel right at home since the very beginning. We enjoyed both the hotel and the restaurant, authentic Madeiran food cooked with love at a very reasonable price. Paulo taught us a lot about the island's traditions and we really appreciated his knowledge. Ponta Delgada is a sweet little village on the north coast, one of those places where it feels like time has stopped. There is a market/ bar just around the corner from the hotel, its always full of locals who gave us some good tips for restaurants and hikes. We were a party of 5 and we would all go back to this hotel in a heartbeat! Obrigada Paulo!
Cons: nada, nothing at all
9.3 Excellent

Cons: When we arrived, although there is a sign at the top of the road, there isn't a sign at the property. Otherwise this is probably one of the nicest places we have ever stayed.

Pros: Very kind owner and staff, the garden, the cosy vibe and all the homemade cake!
Cons: Although madeira is a very safe place I was not entirely comfortable leaving my valuable belongings in the apartment when out, because one door could not be locked.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Splendid view from the window was complimented with kind service and fully equipped kitchen.
Cons: It could have been a little bit cleaner but I appreciate it is a country house, not hotel. Please also be aware that there are only two parking lots. If those are occupied you may end up parking on the road.

Pros: We liked the location in beautiful garden with nice view over the ocean and quiet surrounding. The host was very friendly, we appreciate her help with communication with our car rental representatives and her lovely cakes!

4.5 Okay
Pros: Really nice view to the ocean
Cons: Heater in the room is not working. Water supply stoped for over 4 hours. Elevator was not working. Very cheap breakfast. There was only 1 hour sun because of the location behind a huge mountain. We booked a suite with separate bed and living room. At the checking they told us that they do not have such rooms. So we got only a bedroom. This is a honest description of the hotel and we are very disappointed about what we got.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Right on the water’s edge and close to the restaurants in town. Big spacious room and comfortable bed.
Cons: It’s in a very shady area during winter. The indoor pool wasn’t warm enough and we had to request to have the sauna turned on in the afternoon which of course took a while.
5.5 Okay
Pros: Pretty location with an amazing view!
Cons: Very dated hotel, could need some renovation, was cold ( guess due to it being low season ) and very humid in the rooms. Breakfast was a bit disappointing.
6.8 Good
Pros: location, ocean view, ping pong table
Cons: breakfast, impersonality of service, cleanliness
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Quiet hotel and perfect seaview.
Cons: Nothing to complain.
5.8 Okay
Pros: The view is great! Each room has sea view and it's just gorgeous. Hotel is located in a small village, the street with restaurants/cafes is just 5 mins away - nice bakery, old bar and restaurant with a very low prices
Cons: We went there in Dec and the property is not heated well. It was actually colder than outside. Also very humid in the room. The breakfast is mediocre - powder coffee, cheap sausages, not very fresh bread. For the price we expected something a bit better. We ended up going to the village for the breakfast
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The room given was amazing much better than expected.
Cons: Breakfast can really be better...
7.5 Good
Pros: Is our Second time there, the place is lovely with such a magnific sea front view.
Cons: The others guests, one Family just monopolize the Jacuzzy and pool area all day round with kids not educated jumping into jacuzzy, making all guests leave the covered pool area and jacuszzy,
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Lovely breakfast, with adequate variety. Recently renovated rooms, with breathtaking views
Cons: Although Bar staff was friendly, the bar area could be more inviting, found it very dull.

Cons: Plastic cover on the mattress / very uncorfotable.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Awesome view of the mountains and ocean, great location, friendly staff.
Cons: To less vegetables on breakfast.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Because we have been to this hotel twice before we found a bowl of fruit in our room on arrival and a note thanking us for returning. The hotel is situated in a beautiful valley and a very peaceful location. The staff are very friendly, professional, and always ready to help. There is a wonderful spread of food at breakfast. The food in the restaurant is very well presented and of high quality.
Cons: There is nothing not to like.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything about it was wonderful - amazing value for money.
Cons: would have liked a kettle in the room but this was only a small point given everything else we experienced.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Food was excellent. Staff very friendly and helpful. Room was very comfortable and clean. We returned again for a second visit as first was so good. We met other guests who were also returning because they particularly liked this hotel. Would definitely recommend others to stay here.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Good view from the window, friendly staff, free parking
Cons: Blanket is made of wool (or something like that ), so you may face allergy. There was no mini bar in the room or fridge
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very good breakfast and dinner. The room was comfortable and the bed good. The staff were very pleasant.
Cons: Our room was right above the roof of the swimmingpool which partly spoiled the view. There were also some high trees that tolk the view Howards the ocean.

7.0 Good
Pros: Jacuzzi didn't work, but we could use the sauna for free.
Cons: The room didn't have much personality. This place is not for young couples.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Comfy and nice hotel. We had lovely bedroom, very clean every day. Beautiful area (car needs) in the middle of nature.
Cons: The wifi could be stronger and the breakfast richer, however its not so important.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely and peaceful, surrounded by beautiful scenery!
7.5 Good
Pros: The spa was very clean and met our expectations.
Cons: Breakfst selection was limited, only one choice of juice and hot food was not replenished. Overall breakfast was not in line with the price paid. The bed was squeaky and the plastic matress protector was noisy resulting in a poor nights sleep. Limited toiletries in the bathroom, more expected for this pricepoint.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Quite place, sauna, heated pool, friendly staff.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Lovely intimate hotel. Balcony with great view, could lay in bed and see the sea. Lots of comfortable shared spaces. Restaurant was good, absolutely fine to eat there for a few nights. The waitress/hotel employee Vanessa was excellent - really helpful, friendly, looked after everyone- and her English was excellent. Good spot for exploring the north of the island. Boaventura is just a small village so would recommend having a car, but there are some excellent local walks.
Cons: The Booking site suggested there was mini golf, but there wasn't. Think they were building on the site instead. Just a bit disappointing as would have been fun to have had the golf facilities. No tea/coffee facilities in room. Could buy at the bar and take to room, no problem, but it's always nice to have the facilities in the room. As it is just a small hotel, the reception is not 24hr. We had to check out at 7.30 am to get to airport and the main part of the hotel was all closed. Eventually managed to flag someone down, but there didn't seem to be facilities open before 8am, which seemed a little strange as that's not that early (would understand if it was 4am). Just very small things that could be improved, they didn't spoil our experience.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: It's location and the quaintness of it
Cons: Nothing much. Rooms are a little tired, for bangs when.closing but hey ho it's not important!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The welness part was amazing! Lovely staff that was very helpful
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Idyllic and peacefull place. Restaurant, delicious food, funny waitress :) Big towels, 2 / person Rooms clean & nice, good atmosphiere Wonderfull indoor pool, sun terrace, sauna Signs to the hotel (gps didn´t found this place)
Cons: Sheets in the beds were quite strange, with plastic (made funny voices :D ) Restaurant opened quite late (for dinner)
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful hotel with comfortable room, lots of public areas to sit and relax. Quiet surroundings (except for church bells that didn't bother us through the double pane windows of our room). Flat screen TV with International channels. Comfortable beds. Good WiFi that was strong in public areas. Lots of space in room to put our things. We made it known that we didn't like to be cold when we booked and there was an electric heater in the room when we arrived. We liked the fresh cooked eggs at breakfast. We were off season and the price for quality was the best we found. We would have stayed several nights longer but needed to do a large load of laundry and didn't want to pay per piece at hotel prices. We would stay again if we came back to Madeira.
Cons: Public areas were a bit cold for us in December. Laundry at hotel prices. Food in restaurant at dinner rather limited.

Cons: Kettle in room
6.8 Good
Pros: Good value for the money Calm Clean
Cons: ”Conference feeling alá 80’s”
7.5 Good
Pros: Scenic location in a quiet area overlooking the sea. Great and large outdoor pool. Indoor pool, hot tub, sauna. Facilities overall were very good.
Cons: The food. Lousy breakfast; poor quality. The restaurant only offered an unappealing buffet at night despite the fact no restaurants in town. Also WiFi only available in lobby — in 2018?! If the hotel improved their F&B it would be a very good spot.
7.5 Good
Pros: The pool was very nice, the room size was very confortable and big, The staff was nice. The views were amazing. Very beautifull view to the ocean and to the island.
Cons: When we arrived at the room, the table was not clean, we could see the cup marks on the table. The room isolation with the outside is very good but with the room next to ours was not so good, we could hear people talking and tv. The room had a weird smell.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: It is easy to find the hotel, it has nearby beaches and restaurants at a walking distance, the view was amazing even choosing the mountain view, the indoor swimming pool was great, the wifi worked everywhere, the room had a good size.
Cons: The food could of have been better. The AC didn't work properly in the bedroom. The parking lot was very dark and easy to scratch your car in the way out due to the placement of the firehose.

6.3 Good
Pros: The place has a friendly atmosphere and is recommended to young (backpacking) travelers. The breakfast was superb. Kitchen is completely available, as are common premises. The information provided is a bit chaotic and takes a bit of time to orientate. The shower ran on cold water only, not so great after an all-day trekking trip.
Cons: The cold water. The room we got had a 1.2m ceiling, but I guess that's the only one in there.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Hard working neighbor really facilitated stay. Very good quality for the price.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: This is a shared house and we had to take the most basic bedroom as that was all they had left due to our very late booking. Cannot complain, for the price as it was a real bargain and quite comfortable . The other rooms looked very nice and the room downstairs has it's own bathroom. There is a nice lounge and a perfectly usable kitchen but it needs more pans. Outside areas are lovely for a coffee in the morning and glasses of wine in the evening and the village is easy walking distance. Pedro is a very friendly host and the place is absolutely spotless.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: You have to manage to get into the property, the contact ringing the bell needs some effort. But being inside you really feel being at home. A very good taste and empathy make this work.
Cons: ??
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Location is perfect, quiet and nice area with view to the mountains. The house is nice and comfortable. Perfect solution to use the kitchen to cook or prepare some food. Price also great. Read well the description, and be careful with the economic room, because low inner height (under the roof). For us was perfect, we knew about it, so not surprised, but others yes. Anyway the economic romm not only cheep, but very cozy. The lady was nice and helpful by check in and check out. Breakfast was also good, and copious, so recommend to try. Originally we booked just for 2 nights, but few days later returned for one more night.
Cons: The bathroom was little narrow, the shower little ugly, and in the shower the drain was plugged (and smell), the water was running extremly slowly, so after 30 second had to stand in water while showering.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Very welcoming owner. Nice little room, quiet, good bed, clean toilet. Breakfast for 5€ was great service. A little walk uphill. Worth the price. Could stay again.

5.5 Okay
Pros: No breakfast, self catering
7.5 Good
Pros: Location was good
Cons: Breakfast should have been better with choice of healthy cereal, fresh juice, fresh milk, natural yogurt, choice of roll (brown as well as white), cheese and cold meat selection is usual when abroad. Shower - on returning one evening for a shower at 7pm to get ready to go out again there was NO hot water so we had to go out sweaty. The following morning is was still NOT warm enough. Upstairs shower doors need attention- they did not run to close easily. Not enough toilet/shower facilities upstairs for the amount of guest rooms Large insect scampering around in one of the cupboards under the sink which I did not mention to the staff and since realised it was a cockroach.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The housekeeper next door was very friendly and helpful.
Cons: Too many people sharing 1 bathroom (potentially 7 people) Similar problems possible with use of kitchen if everyone wanted to cook. 1 room (not ours) should not be let out - just a mattress on the floor - perhaps the owner too keen to let rooms whatever!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Location and views were good, but parking was a bit tight. long walk to rooms. - path was beautiful but not very well maintained.

A local fruit stall outside the site everyday provided us with fresh produce everyday to eat which we loved too!
5.5 Okay
Pros: An individual place in a quiet location Very reasonably priced, but wouldn't have wanted to pay much more Place was clean Food and bar were good .Wood fire at breakfast was nice
