Everything was great with the rental until we dropped the car off in Madrid after 10 days and discovered we didn't have a spare tire for the whole trip. We were lucky that we never needed the spare. Not great attention to detail by Hertz in Barcelona. Lesson learned I will always check the spare tire from now on.

It was absolutely shocking, the car we had was an orange Volkswagen T Roc it had an oil leakage and the car broke down in the middle of Cambrils and we were left stranded as Hertz done absolutely nothing we clocked the SOS button in the car and we spoke to the people on the other side who said they sent out the police and a maintenance team. They did not, we were stuck at the side of a road in a foreign country for 5 hours waiting to be helped. We phoned the customer service who said they would send up a tow truck and the police too, and they again did not. We had to contact the police and the Road side team who them closed off the side of the road but they did not help us at all. The police finally came and again they could not help us so we were left stranded until we got a €250 taxi back to the airport. We had to go to the airport Hertz who gave us a car for “free” but I checked my bank account to see £500+ has been taken out my account for this absolutely shocking service. I was informed we would have got a taxi to Alicante for free and our money back but we have clearly gotten neither and when this was explained to us over the phone by customer services they then said that it was only a taxi to Barcelona airport. Shocking absolutely horrific.

Cons:

The car had been crashed and wasn't fixed. The car was not cleaned. It had crumbs everywhere. Reserved a Mercedes Class C and they don't even have that kind of car in Hertz Barcelona.

Pros:

The car was brand new, not clean but new. Costumer services i was ok but they forgot to clarify about the petrol.

Cons:

The return of the car not convenient at all. The only have office at the airport of San sebastian. We had to add an extra insurance as they don’t work with allianze that was offer by Kayak. The charge me for one quarter of petrol for 8 ltr at 1.5 euros, plus a Refuelling fee of 16 euros, plus taxes all togehter we paid 178 euros for a fiat 500 for one day whent supposed to be 30 euros. Totally out of budget. The fligts where only 78 euros.

Pros:

Good car. Clean.

Cons:

They don't have the car class you reserved, so they try to give you the "choice" to pay more for the only car they have (& the one they would give you anyway). Really unethical. Comprehensive insurance would have doubled the daily price.
