Pros: The location was very convenient right on the Ring Road. We arrived too late and left too early the next morning to truly enjoy the property. The owners were very responsive to all emails and provided us with information about the area. Welcoming us with chocolate cake was a nice touch. We appreciated knowing that there wasn't an option for food on the property so we knew to bring breakfast with us.
Cons: Everything really was perfect.
Pros: Friendly hosts. Clean and spacious property with nice outlook. Highly recommend.
Pros: The hotel is very cute and personal, and located in the most beautiful surroundings, even has its own waterfall in the backyard. Very friendly hosts. Loved it!
Pros: The healing place.
Pros: new and modern apartment with beautiful view/surrounding
Pros: The room was nicely furnished, rustic modern, with a lot of little surprises here and there. Loved the two little white toy rats sleeping in the wooden bed. The beds were comfortable, nice bathroom, and the kitchenette was well equipped. One night we had dinner at Anna’s restaurant about 2.5 km close by, which was very nice. From our little terrace we had a great view over a lake and a bunch of oyster catcher were frolicking just in front of us on the lawn. It was also fun to watch the sheep high up in the mountains with a nice waterfall. It was possible to walk around, and we enjoyed the surrounding. Anna and Siggi where the perfect hosts with good arrival instructions, and freshly baked pie in the afternoon every day. The place is nicely located, about 25 min drive to the black beach in Vik and an easy drive to the ferry for Vestmannaeyjar.
Pros: An excellent place from which to explore the area. Wish we had stayed longer!
Pros: Lots of thoughtful touches which made it a home from home.
Cons: It would have been useful to have an extractor fan in the kitchen area.
Pros: Beautiful in all details. Room is very comfortable, clean and with a beautiful view. The kitchen is full of everything you need to cook. There is a lovely attention to children (with some toys/puzzle/book in the room). Staff very friendly. I love this place! Good to explore South Coast.
Pros: The best accommodation we have been in all our trip! The hosts are so nice, and the cabin has everything you need to make you feel at home. 20 min. To the ferry to Westman island, 50 min. To Vik.
Cons: Nothing! It was a great stay.
Located in Rangárþing eystra, UMI Hotel is by the ocean, within a 15-minute drive of Eyjafjallajokull Visitor Centre and Skogar Museum. Featured amenities include a 24-hour business center, a 24-hour front desk, and multilingual staff. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: UMI was exquisite! Every detail exceeded our expectations! The staff was delightful, the setting breathtaking, the food incredibly delicious! Sitting outside on the patio was a highlight and so relaxing after a day of exploring. We took an amazing walk down to the black sand beach through the fields. We are hoping to return soon!
Pros: We really enjoyed our stay! Beautiful interior, super friendly staff and a nice surrounding. Highly recommended when you want a high quality (design) hotel!
Pros: Staff is great and super attentive!! Special thanks to Margret who made our stay a beyond 5-star experience.
Cons: Shower water didn’t clear up so well. Entire floor was wet.
Pros: The staff was extraordinary!
Pros: Friendly staff and very clean. Enjoyed the happy hr at the bar! Location was convenient for exploring the sites of the region. Only thing that could have made it better was a spa or jacuzzi.
Pros: The location is beatifull, great to be in a peacefull environment, and the facilities are very nice.
Cons: Breakfast was the only thing to be improved, few variety and not always carefully refilled by staff.
Pros: Umi Hotel is a stunning, modern oasis, perfectly situated on the South Coast, near most of the areas major attractions. The design is beautiful and the food is exceptional, but above all, the staff are some of the most accommodating and friendly I have ever come across. A wonderful experience through and through!
Pros: Gorgeous location with view to the sea and the mountains. Terrific breakfast buffet and cutest dog. Modern interiors. Well appointed.
Cons: The shower didn’t keep water in very well
With a stay at Raudafell 1 in Rangárþing eystra, you'll be within a 10-minute drive of Skogafoss and Eyjafjallajokull Visitor Centre. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: The hostess cooked fresh eggs from her chickens and the view was BEAUTIFUL!!!
Cons: I didn't like having to share the bathroom, but it wasn't a bad experience. She has two in the house and it wasn't an issue. It is solidly built and I couldn't hear anything even though my room was next door to it.
Pros: Basic facilities but well worth the cost and spotlessly clean! Beds were very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent. Our host was lovely! Beautiful view of the mountains.
Cons: Everything was perfect
Pros: Nice host, good breakfast but only at 8.House okay.
Cons: Kitchen and dining room are too small. Spiders at windows and in the rooms.
Pros: The breakfast was tasty.
Cons: The road access wasn't good enough. They were some spiders in the room. The cleaning of the bathroom wasn't good enough.
Pros: Very picturesque location. Clean neat guesthouse. Plenty of room in the twin room we had upstairs. Lovely lounge room with large windows to admire the view downstairs. Close to Skogafoss. 40km from Vik.
Cons: We never met the host. It was easy enough to find our way in when we arrived with instructions, but it felt strange to leave in the morning without seeing anyone. Also was unhappy with minimal breakast spread - bread, jam, apples. In retrospect, I think the host cooked a plate of pancakes, but we were in the middle of packing and leaving at the time (9am), she didn't tell me who she was and I assumed it belonged to another guest. When I compare with other accommodation used in Iceland, this was my least favourite.
Pros: Helga was so nice to bring us to the Fimmvörduhals Trailhead Renovated House, clean, Tasty Breakfast
Pros: Good location for hiking trails
Cons: Didn’t see the host while we stayed, so was a bit unclear how things worked e.g breakfast
Pros: Excellent located between Seljavallalaug and Skógafoss. Calm, clean and comfy. Friendly staff and tasty pancakes for breakfast.
Cons: Nothing to complain about.
Pros: It was off the beaten path so not a lot of people staying in the area, the views were nice. It was quiet at night, all we heard were sheep which is great to go to sleep to.
Cons: NO BREAKFAST! This was the 9th out of 10 places we stayed in Iceland, it was NOT what I expected or what we had experienced at the other 8 places we had stayed. There was one bathroom for 7 people including the shower and toilet. (the shower not drain well and I thought was going to flood the bathroom) If someone was showering you were out of luck on the toilet. No sink in our room so you could at least brush your teeth or wash your face instead of taking up the bathroom if others needed it. I had read about pancakes on a previous review, a whiteboard sign when you checked in said what room you were in and breakfast would be eggs, yogurt, milk and toppings for bread. We NEVER saw the owner, there was 1 loaf of bread some butter and 1/3 a jar of marmalade for breakfast. NO milk for tea or coffee, yogurt, or eggs for breakfast like the sign at check in said there would be. There were 9 guests and all we had was a loaf of bread to share between us. We were very disappointed I would NOT recommend this place to stay based on our experience.
Located in Rangárþing eystra, Hotel Skogar is in a rural location, within a 15-minute walk of Skogar Museum and Skogafoss. Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services and multilingual staff. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Good room with a great view.
Cons: Poor breakfasts, staff was not knowledgeable but helpful with our luggage. We did not partake in the evening dinners since it was a limited menu. We even had to complain that they had failed to make our bed and did not replace one of our facecloths.
Pros: Liked the rural location and waterfall proximity.
Cons: Shower curtain was a bit dirty. No fan
Pros: Dinner was delicious.
Cons: Facet water in room was strong sulfer and no other water available without asking for it. Room was also too warm with the heat off. Had to open the windows.which makes it noisier.
Pros: the location and the lady at the reception who was very nice
Cons: The room was horrible, very small and old fashioned. It was on the basement and we had to keep the curtains closed as it was opposite a parking lot. We paid more than twice for this room than for other places in Iceland and it was the worst by far.
Pros: Great location. Also enjoyed the food and the room was terrific.
Cons: Very old furniture and some even broken
Pros: Good location close to Skogarfoss waterfall and nice walks. Staff very friendly. Breakfast nice.
Cons: Hot tub dirty (and not so hot), TV reception extremely poor (only 1 channel worked in my room), rooms way too hot (even with radiators turned off), rooms not well cleaned from day to day, cheap plastic toilet seat. Apparently common issue in the area, but shower hot water had extremely strong sulfur (rotten egg) smell. Given the cost, the level of prestation was not great.
Pros: Adorable little hotel, super close to Skogarfoss. Used to be a home, and you can tell with how quaint it is.
Pros: Polite staff. Near Skogafoss.
Cons: The sink is too small. And it has a shelf just above the sink, making it nearly impossible to wash my face properly.
Located in Rangárþing eystra, Hotel Skogafoss is in a rural location, within a 15-minute walk of Skogar Museum and Skogafoss. Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services and coffee/tea in a common area. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Good 4 star hotel, great view from the room.
Cons: 5 star prices. But nobody forced me book it!
Pros: Very clean rooms, well-designed space, good breakfast. Excellent view of the waterfall.
Cons: No complaints
Pros: Location is amazing. Food was good
Cons: It’s not the worlds fanciest boat out but what you’re paying for is the location. The family room was perfect for our family and it was nice to be able to hang out and watch the falls.
Cons: I think need more toilet.
Pros: Very big, clean apartment at a perfect place, next to Skogafoss waterfalls.
Cons: Kitchen utensils were not enough. Reception is in another building, not easy to find.
Pros: Location, location, location!
Cons: Difficult to block out light to sleep during the ‘midnight sun.’ The window above the door didn’t have a shade. Front desk person was curt with me when giving directions to our apartment. It was set apart from rest of hotel and confusing to find since we were unfamiliar with the property.
Pros: Clean place. Great location. Great staff.
Cons: Too expensive for those amenities. Not even some coffee pads/coffee machines in the apartment for 352€ a night. No washing machines / dryers. But get this, the hostel residents gets it. Not the ones who've paid thrice that price . Need to offer a little bit more or slash the prices.
Pros: Clean & quiet room, good breakfast, very close to one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the world!
Cons: Bad ventilation in the room. It was the hottest time of the year at 17 degrees centigrade, though. It was possible to open the window to work around the issue, but the rooms are on ground floor so not the most comfortable thing to do. Could use more power sockets. Distinct smell of sulfur in the water but that's quite common in Iceland.
Pros: Good equipped, specious apartment basically on the base of the falls.
Pros: Excellent location near waterfall, attached to restaurant
Cons: Sewerage smell in the restroom, it did not look dirty but I suspect it’s due to a plumbing issue
Pros: We had a newly acquired apartment that has four bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms. It was a great size and fit for our family of 7. The apartment was clean, linens were nice, and it was well equipped.
Cons: We did have one disappointing issue with what we had confirmed and were expecting, but the management did their best and helped make it right. We would definitely stay here again because of their customer service and because I think this was a very me time issue.
Located in Rangárþing eystra, Hotel Drangshlid is in a rural location, within a 5-minute drive of Skogar Museum and Skogafoss. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Good location
Pros: It is basic and quiet. I had the traditional Icelandic fish soup for dinner at the restaurant with was very good. If you are willing to get up early you can get the Skógafoss Waterfall a few km down the road before the day tripper crowds and buses turn up and be back in time for breakfast. I walk to the top of the falls and saw 3 people and photographed the base of the falls without another person around, by 10.00AM there will be 500 people and more on the way to push and shove their up and down the stairs to the top of the waterfall.
Cons: The breakfast was light on, but filled a hole. I could not open the window in the room and the room actually became quite hot. The sign for the hotel is bit hard to read when travelling towards Vik as you are in a 90 km zone and with traffic on a typical narrow undulating Iceland road so I missed it and turned into Skógar down the road first to look for the hotel as Skógar is on the booking address, then on the way back into a farm entrance which also has Drangs#### on the sign but gives you a wonderful view of the Skógafoss Waterfall then next turn is the hotel. The are few road distance signs in Iceland so you can easily overshoot small towns and roads. BE CAREFUL when you fuel at N1 card only unmanned fuel stations, use the fixed amounts not full tank button so you can trace your credit card transactions amounts as they issue no receipts or indication where the station was on your credit card statement or keep notes of the ISK amount and place in case you have a dispute later.
Pros: Nothing to mentioned and stayed one night. The home made bread was really the best. The staff was polite.
Cons: The price
Pros: Staff in restaurant
Pros: The beds very cozy
Cons: The friendly dogs
Pros: Location easy to find right off route 1 and next to turf houses
Cons: Nothing bad tobsay
Pros: Located near one of the major waterfalls in southern Iceland.
Cons: Usually I don’t offer reviews because I think most of the ratings remarks are not objective. But there are some that I can’t pass through. For instance, it’s not tolerable to offer tourists towels with holes or poor wifi at 260 euro per night.
Pros: Breakfast was good. Location was amazing.
Cons: Two dead bugs in my bed. Very thin walls, felt Like the people next door we’re in our bathroom it was so loud. Really expensive and no amenities ( no tv, poor WiFi.
Pros: Very friendly reception
Pros: The location
Cons: Bedsheets with holes And they charged my card a day before my arrival!!!!!
With a stay at Skogar Hostel in Rangárþing eystra, you'll be within a 5-minute drive of Skogafoss and Skogar Museum. Featured amenities include a 24-hour front desk and laundry facilities. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: The location...just a very short walk to the falls.
Pros: I like the location, checked in procedures was quite straightforward
Cons: Wasn’t much information
Pros: Very good location
Cons: Outdated room facilities. Heating of the room not adjustable. Price is too high in comparison to the quality of the room.
Pros: The location was excellent: practically next to the waterfall and the start of the Fimmvorduhals hike. The restaurant attached to the hostel was quite decent and not badly priced for Iceland (food is very expensive).
Cons: The hostel building itself and the room were lousy -- clean but very basic. I joked to my partner that the room was like being in prison. Our own room but just enough to hold one set of bunk beds, a tiny sink, and a metal chair. Cement walls and floor, etc. No curtains or anything on the window (at least there was a window). Terrible!!
Pros: Great ubication! Luxury place to woke up
Pros: The location is amazing, just a few steps from the Waterfall. Super kind reception staff. Common rooms were clean and the kitchen well equipped.
Cons: Our triple was a formerly connecting room closed by a simple door. When the guests in the other room were in, we could hear every word as being in the same room. (And unluckily they stopped to speak after 2am...)
Pros: Location and cleanliness of the place. Kitchen was perfect for us
Pros: Amazing facilities. Great breakfast. Very clean.
Cons: One minor thing: The bunk beds in my room was making loud and annoying noises whenever someone turn over in their bad.
Pros: Amazing location. Nice staff.
Cons: Rooms are a little dated.
Pros: Nice and clean hostel, eqiped kitchen, washing maschine and dryer
Cons: Everythig all right
Located in Rangárþing eystra, Hotel Edda Skogar is in a rural location, within a 5-minute drive of Skogar Museum and Skogafoss. Featured amenities include a 24-hour front desk and multilingual staff. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Cozy room, good breakfast. Skogar is the perfect place to stay for hiking, or during our trip around Iceland.
Pros: Very good place for short staying to visit all local intetesting places. Very good breakfast, nice staff
Pros: Great waterfall and view from the room
Pros: Very kind and friendly staff. Good beds.
Cons: Our room wasn’t clean when we arrive to the hotel, so we had to wait one hour more. Hotel’s air condition was nonexistent so remember to keep windows open.
Pros: Location is great
Cons: Small rooms
Pros: Good breakfast.
Cons: We didn't shower or drink from the sink, because it smelled terrible like sewage. Our room was located in the side building, when we had breakfast in the main building we noticed the water there didn't smell at all.
Pros: Great location.
Pros: Room was clean and warm.
Cons: I have a QUESTION - Do they always put the booking.com guests right next to the shower/toilet facilities? Because it was very, very noisy. There wasn't much insulation between the facilities and the rooms, or between the rooms. Noisy, noisy place! The question to be answered is always, "would you stay there again?" I would never stay there again!!
Cons: Shared bathroom facilities are far from the family room. The twin room originally booked for is too small and drabby looking. Not worth the price we pay for.
Pros: Location is okay for a mid stop
With a stay at Welcome Guesthouse Edinborg in Rangárþing eystra, you'll be in the mountains, within a 10-minute drive of Skogafoss and Eyjafjallajokull Visitor Centre. Featured amenities include express check-in and express check-out. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Not a thing
Cons: We had an issue with our phone so we couldn't download the code you need to enter the room. We called and repeatedly e-mailed them but nobody got back to us. Very poor check-in. It is hard to define this a guesthouse. It is more like a tuna can. The room is way smaller than it looks, we had to take turns in walking in the room and we hardly had any space for the suitcase. The toilet was poor, the sink was poor, the shower was really tiny. A tent is way bigger than this room. Very poorly isolated. They put a biliard table upstairs and when people started playing, we had to ask them not to do so because it was as if they were playing in our room! Plus, why would you put a biliard table when the rooms are so so tiny! All in all, this place is more like a container than a guesthouse. If you can, choose another option, don't go there!
Pros: Easy access, clean, basic but nice. Social area good for eating after long day.
Cons: No sink in kitchen area
Pros: Cosy place with lovely views!
Cons: No breakfast available or near by.
Pros: Excellent location near sites, Staff, Facilities, Ease of self check in, Special Touches (tea station, dining area, rec area), cleanliness.
Pros: Good location.
Cons: No drinking water available (and bathroom faucet is too low to fill a water bottle.) Stairs up to common area narrow and terribly steep. Why can't people "check in" after 9 pm?? Mildew all over the shower. Price is too high, even for this section of Iceland. Don't advertise it's a 20 min walk to a well known pool when it's a difficult 20 minute walk After a 15 minute drive down a terribly rough dirt road.
Cons: Very thin walls!
Pros: Location and cleanliness
Cons: Poor wifi
Pros: The room had three beds, which beds were quite ok - all of them were real beds, none of them were temporary-type. The sheets and towels were ok, too. As well as the toilet plus shower functional-wise. The room space was quite limited, but served a one-night stay.
Cons: The floor of the shower space could have had a more proper cleaning. Luckily we had shower slippers with us.
Pros: Our room had a private bathroom a d lots of plug-ins.
Cons: The rate was a bit higher then others but it was on the south coast.
