We had an overnight stay at this hotel as we were attending a function nearby. After we checked out the following morning we enjoyed a walk by the River Tees which is just outside the hotel car park. The Tees Barrage that has been constructed was interesting, it's purpose is to make a venue for water sports which is currently under construction.
Good amount of parking, good location, close to out of town shopping centre, and supermarket. Good pub food next door Nothing not to like
Been along time sice i stayed in a travel inn (now Premier Inn) and what a difference. The upgrade to their hotels has made a big difference. Well done!
The staff were very helpful and friendly. The food at the attached restaurant was very good and fast to be served. The room was very clean, spacious and comfortable. It was very quiet - i got a great nights sleep. Nope.
extremely friendly and helpful staff who were able to provide us with maps and directions to the places we needed.
Staff where helpfull and friendly, rooms were clean and tidy.
Bed comfortable, curtains blocked all light. Staff friendly and helpful. Food good in on site restaurant. Room was cold and hard to heat.
Everything connected with hotel acceptable Actual cost not explained properly. Website inaccurate on distance of hotel to centre of Stockton. Reception staff not sufficiently well informed on local facilities.
Relaxed atmosphere and excellent breakfasts. Mattress in room 107 quite soft!
Friendly staff Poor service in restaurant, poor quality of food and incorrect/incomplete order served. Gym facilities excellent, changing facilities dirty
Excellent food and service in the restaurant
I do like most of the arrangement in total.......Very good yes, There is no fridge in the room for keeping any thing such as water and juice
Resturant is good.
The restaurant and sports centre are excellent I had to ask on numerous occaisions for the tv to be fixed the phone to be fixed and a lightbulb to be changed. The rooms need to be redecorated to the same standard as the other facilities.
Having access to a 25m pool, sauna and steam room. State of decoration. You could feel all the springs in the mattress
Comfortable, spacious bedroom; bright, clean bathroom, with a large bath and a powerful shower. Situated in green fields, only a mile or two out of Middlesbrough. Good choice of breakfast food. Limited sunshine through the small windows of the Brakfast room.
Parts of bar area and restaurant were too dark. Actually ended up with frosties instead of cornflakes at breakfast, as I couldnt see!
Great value for money, good breakfast and with a swimming pool. Our room was well cleaned. The place is showing its age a bit and needs a refresh in places. Reception and breakfast room staff are not the most customer focused I have ever met and the place would be much better if this was improved.
Good reception, clean & tidy rooms, very efficient process See below
Comfortable bed, hot water Old tv with limited channels & poor remote control. No internal phone or wake-up call facility
Reception was excellent on arrival , The Bar staff in the evening were helpful and friendly as were the breakfast staff , and expressed great apologies over the fact that there was no strawberry jam , but a member of staff had gone out to get some . None
Very clean. All essentials provided. Staff all very pleasant and helpful
Lovely clean room, nice size for family. Squeeky bathroom door,
frendly staff bar a bit expensive compared to local pub prices..... 24 hour food menu could have been a bit better
Having to pay for car park
clean room and friendly receptionist thin walls. was woke up at 6.30 am by an inconsiderate guest's alarm going off and off and off....
Location - clean hotel, looks very new
location, close town centre and Riverside Stadium
Close to the town Very expensive compared to standard of the hotel
Clean. Modern. Friendly. Spa, Pool, Gym Sauna. Generous Beds. Great Views.
I loved the swimming pool. I swan every morning. The highlight of the stay. Meals were expensive and would have like something between dinner and snacks unless I missed something.
staff ,and the whole hotel was good i had to change rooms at 2.30am due to the noise from a nightclub not far from my room .so all in all the hotel was good but the location of my room was very poor.so on that note i would like to request a refund or one free night at one of the other thistles hotels .Thank you
Very friendy an easy stay!
Very friendly owner and the one room was beautifully decorated. The other room really could not be called 'a room', it was actually the landing with the stairs coming off from it to go downstairs to the dining room. It was also very nosy as the tall fridge was huming through the night.
The staff was helpful, the room clean and comfortable, and the location is good. At the time of our stay, 07/08, there was some construction going on at the hotel site, so there was a cluttered look about the grounds. However, this should pass with time.
The quality of our our room was excellent. The breakfast was top notch and the staff were extremely helpful. The hotel was up a country lane and the nearest pub/village was not within walking distance although a very short car drive.
Owner very helpful, gave us a lift to the function we were attending. Not the easiest place to find, but thats what you get when you choose a rural location.
Clean, excellent breakfast! Difficult to find, lack of tv channels in room.
the area was ideal for our break and the lodge was very well maintained
Nice room and all mod cons very good breakfast and ecxellent value all round Location and access road
it's location the road
The room I stayed in (#5) was very clean and light. A nice big bed which was very comfortable. The bathroom facilities are ideal with a good size shower. The flat screen tv with freeview was good for killing time. It made a nice change for there to be a reasonable amount of tea and coffee available in the room. The B&B gives it's address as Stockton On Tees when in reality it is in the village of Thorpe Thewes which is an £8/£9 taxi ride away. It has signs stating that it is a B&B yet breakfast costs extra! There appears to be no phone for public use which is a hindrance when trying to book taxis, if like me you don't own a mobile phone. Also the owner is very hard to find when trying to ask for assistance.
We had a pleasant stay and staff were polite. The rooms were of a decent standard and were clean. The complementary 'Dove' toiletries were a nice touch. The rooms were extremely warm and stuffy and the air con did not work in room 153.
Good location And excellent service. our room a bit noisy due to trains a stone throw away from our window. Also we were woken by noisy heating system during the night . Also the price of £60 a night you would of thought breakfast was included
I thought my late check in was handled very well, and any time i called reception they were polite and helpful and even knocked on my door to deliver my paper, the showers in the bathroom were very good, i had not been top the area before, so may be in the welcome book a little more information would have helped as i walked to yam and turned the wrong way out of the hotel, may be info on th elocal buses would be nice as they are so frequent room services was quick and excellant i would definitly come back, i work in th etravel industry , and enjoyed weekedn I selected this hotel for the pool and gym, this let the hotel down due to the service, there was no one on reception , she then arrived with her fried breakfast to eat, we are in a gym, i explained i was staying at the hotel, and asked were things were, and i was just pointed, it would have been nice the customer service from the main hotel had carried through , they seemed more intrested in people that are non residences, i did not think the changing rooms were very cleean just a small thing i was unsure on th eroom service and at what times as the menu in the room gives the restuarnat times, and doe snot mention breakfast , which when i phoned reception they said no problem which was very nice
Very attentive restaurant staff
Very clean and spacious tea/coffee and warm atmosphere The staff at reception were pleasant and welcoming I did misplace an item of property which was readily found and returned to me Nothing to comment about
Nice and clean A 15/20 mins to walk into yarm
i liked the hotel it was comfortable with character the stain glass windows were lovely on the stairs. it had a famiiar feel to it and our room was different to other hotel rooms as it had a split level.
Difficult to say as when we arrived for breakfast just before ten we were told it finished at 9.30 on that day. Isn't your priority with the resisdents that are already in the hotel and not for a wedding that is due to arrive later in the day. As much as it was comfortable i felt the reception area was okay but the room looked a bit tired and dated. It does not have the WoW factor.
Attentive staff, clean facilities, pretty restaurant Breakfast was all piled on a small plate. Beans everywhere. It tasted nice but it looked awful
Spa and leisure facilities and breakfast was good.
Good service. Nice hotel. Cold night. Should have been extra blankets in the room.
I found the staff at the desk extremely helpful especially when there appeared to be a mix up
Easy access/good secure parking/good menu/pleasant staff Decor old fashioned/a bit dark and forboding
the noise from outside. web site stated rooms had been noise proofed but it was extremely noisy.
easy to find tiny rooms, has not been redocorated in at least 20 yrs, very very basic, over priced
I wasn't expecting a great deal I have to admit, knowing Middlesborough from a few years ago but I was pleasantly surprised to find The Baltimore to be a really lovely hotel. Clean and spacious and good value for money. Would definitely recommend it to others.
Not much. Although good selection of teas and biscuits Dingy, old fashioned.
Comfortable spacious room excellent Dinner and Breakfast very well served and presented.Helpful and very pleasant staff. Nothing
friendly staff. great food. rooms were to hot
Friendly staff A bit noisy at times, because of guests leaving in the middle of the night and therefore not going to bed; i.e. talking rather loudly and pacing their room
It was more than expected excellent I would have liked a bar area
The staff. Attentive and courteous and professional
Very friendly staff, and location was brilliant with lovely views and grounds to walk in Nothing
The luxury room A wedding was on at the hotel on our first night and we were put in a room directly above it. It was not a quite christmas getaway we had hoped for,
The staff was lovely and most helpful.
The location, the view from the room and the contemporary decoration in the room The fire alarm that went off at 3.30am! The speed of the service wasn't great either, drinks in the lounge took ages and breakfast was a slow process
Clean, modern and comfortable Nothing at all
Lovely setting, excellent food comparable with michelin starred restaurants we have used, friendly and attentive staff. That we couldn't stay longer!!
Very good staff and pleasant surroundings The facilities for smokers were an insult and absolutely appallling when most pubs in slums do better as of course most hotels do too. Those at the wedding that was going on when we were there were equally disgusted on this issue. All my comments herein are all subject to this one criticism.
The room (Roxby)was small. The bathroom wass poorly laid out ie you virtually had to climb over the toilet to enter the shower and the lighting was wholly inadequate.
Good comfy bed. Good food. Nice room fittings / decor. Some noise from next room - possibly insufficient noise insulation. Limited selection in "continental Breakfast". Decaf in the tea/coffee would be really good.
Excellent value for money, very helpful staff from arrival to checkout. The room temperature was a little too hot during the night.
location was ideal for the purpose of our visit to relatives in the north east dirty bed linen suggesting that the bed was not changed during the day on informing the staff on duty the bed was completely changed within 15 minutes. The fire alarm going off in our room at 0800hrs and waking us up with a jolt and nobody checking our where abouts till we checked out 30 minutes later even if it was a false alarm.
Reliable and free wireless internet Breakfast finished at 10am - fairly early for a Sunday
Very clean and comfortable staff very helpful No soap in bathroom and inside of bath base badly scratched toilet took a long time torefill before could flush again extractor fan in bathroom not working
Good Car Park Good food Staff were friendly and helpful Wifi was haphazard (dropping out)
Every thing was as expected. 1St class There where none

It was very much appreciataed that we could take one of our dogs into our room - we did have a cage for her! The other two remained safely in the car overnight in the hotel carpark. The night staff were willing when we returned late at night and made no complaint on letting my husband in after he had walked the dogs after midnight due to our late arrivel back at the hotel. My only complaint was the concern caused when on our late arrival, during booking in, we were told we could not stay the final night of our booking as the room had been double booked. The staff did offer, however, to find alternative accommodation. During the night on reflection of this state, I wondered why, when I booked the hotel and it had shown a number of vacancies for that period, it was my husband and myself being asked to move. Also this was going to be very inconvenient as we were participating in an International Dance Festival in Billingham, which meant late nights, and as leaders of the dance group we were expected to be in early morning meetings which meant leaving the hotel at approximately 8.00 A.M. If we were to leave Sunday morning it would have been very difficult to pack costumes and other personal luggage, along with the dog-cage, pack the car and still arrive at our meeting in time. Also, we were in a late night concert on the Sunday which meant if we moved hotels we would again be very late booking into a different hotel. Most of which would have been full anyway due to the "Tall Ships" in Harrogate. It was not until the Saturday that we were told we could remain in the Bluebell Hotel. Much as I appreciate the fact that the staff did finally organise for us to remain in our room, it did rather cause great concern during what should have been a time of confidence knowing that we had suitable accommodation during a very busy weekend.
very value in that price, when i check in, double single bed only cost me 55 ponds. and the room is very comfortable and clean.
Lots of noise from other guests moving around the hotel. Shared toilets are a variety of self cleaning superloo and very small. Not built for the larger gentleman.
Low price. looked a bit like a prison. Dirty toilets + shower facilities. Very noisy, horrible location (industrial estate, next to motorway, airport and lots of factories, cell phone towers, powerlines etc) however, it's quite o.k. because the cost of the room was very very low.
1. The helpful staff. 2. The up grading of the rooms already under way I booked two rooms by phone but only one was recorded. Fortunately there were rooma available when we arrived so this wasn't a problem but if the hotel had beed fully booked...
It was good value for money, easy to find and the receptionist was very helpful. I've stayed twice at the same hotel in the last two weeks. On the first occasion the room was grubby - clean bed linen but carpet needed vacuuming and sink area could have been cleaner. No water, either hot or cold, available for drinking - vending machines didn't have either. Upstairs corridor smelled of cigarette smoke.
I didnt exspect much for money at the hotel, but to be honest it was clean and the staff were realy nice. I didnt like to keep going from my room to the reception to get a hot drink, and it's not good when you dont remember the code to get back into you're room. Also on my last night staying at the hotel there was a lot of travellers haning around the reception and running up and down the corridoors and baning on doors, and when i went to get a hot drink from reception there ws five stood there and i felt really intimadated, then the youngest boy who must of been about 18yrs of age followed me to my room and stood outside for at least 10mins! I feel this is totally unacceptable and when i reported it the nexy morning, i never even got an sorry!
friendly and helpful staff not the best location
Economic room close to main roads
cost no tea and coffe making in room
Comfortable beds and clean room.Good value for a couple of nights Kettle in the room would have been nice. Have to dress etc before using shared one downstairs so early morning/late night drinks not convenient.
simple accommodation which simply works. Easy to find and so close to two major towns. It was a bit noisy due to renovation work but I wouldn't have noticed this if I'd have been just a one night guest
