Incredible view of the lake and mountains. Great locatio in Stressa. Absolutely one of the best in Italy.
all was excellent No
Our stay was wonderful! We were upgraded to a gorgeous room overlooking the lake, however, all the rooms looked superb. We were a very short walk to the city center and could see the islands on the lake from our balcony. The boats to the islands were also close by. The staff at the hotel were more than outstanding and when our car broke down they completely took charge and helped us get a new car. We had a great facial and massage in their lovely spa. I couldn't say enough about this great hotel. It was a fabulous and I can understand why Ernest Hemingway wrote about it in "Farewell to Arms". The perfect start to our Italian vacation.
It was wonderful to experience a few days of grand "belle epoche" style. The staff was friendly and helpful, and we had a nice stay. I wish the lighting in the bedrooms was better for reading. The bedside lights are not great for reading. Since it was raining for most of our stay, this was important.
Have stayed in many other Stresa Hotels ,this is the best by far..at a price The rooms do not have tea & coffee
a truly "Grand" hotel, very spectacular museum-like design, full of artefacts and ambiance. Restaurant rather expensive but very good, staff helpful and efficient. Close to Stresa beaches, shops and restaurants I think it is applicable to all the most expensive and renouned hotels on the Stresa promenade. Lake - facing rooms are exposed to the noise from the road (which isn't very busy, but an occasional bike makes quite a sound) and those garden-facing -a train which is not quite close but the noise reverberates from the mountains, so we chose to sleep with the door closed and the air conditioning switched on on the last day. These are however minor problems compared to the grandeur of the experience.
The decor is wonderful, location for the lake & town are excellent. I booked for October by mistake, but the reception staff were very understanding when we arrived a month earlier in September! They gave us one of the best rooms with big veranda, but one of our dogs got on to the stain glass room. It was a talking point of our stay! The price was fair for the quirkiness, but the full price is quick high.
Comfortable room.Good location.Attentive staff.A very good staging place to make day visit to other lakes. None.
The hotel has an unique and wonderful atmosphere. The room was very comfortable, clean and beauifully decorated. The staff (both in the reception and the staff in the restaurant) was extraordinary friendly and helpful. The food and service was excellent. The spa facility had a sauna and steamroom which looked very nice but was unfortunately turned off for most of the time so was not able to use it - which is a shame as the spa is very nice. The pool was open though.
This hotel is 1st Class!
We enjoyed the location, the scenery, the people, and food of the area. The hotel was centrally located and open at the time we were visiting.
Location is excellent, the pool and garden are great. The restaurant - too many not-so-effective waiters, average food.
Isola Bella+Isola Madre. The old part of Streza.Visiting the north part of Lago Maggiore A small room under the roof-hot! no A/C during our stay.
Good location, nice staff, good food, good parking facilities, garage. The bed was too small!
The staff was very friendly and helpful. We had a great view over the lake and the hotel was in an excellent position.
I liked the location of the hotel, the helpfulness of the staff, the breakfast and the room. I didn't love the location of the room in terms of a limited view.
Beautiful design and internal fittings. Views of lake and mountains superb.
Situation beside lake, with view fron window and balcony. Price of breakfast.
The hotel was impressive and very well maintained with a fine swimming pool. A good location in Stresa. The hotel was very good but I have the following comments: the room was very small but still comfortable there did not appear to be any bar service in the pool area - it would have been good to have the opportunity to have a cold drink (delivered)whilst enjoying the pool facilities
the view ,kind personel a bit expensive
The hotel felt very traditional and grand. the decor was fantastic and the facilities excellent. Would have liked tea and coffee in the room
I like the location and the vue over the see. Yes that the room vas very smal
Excellent hotel wonderful view.,nice!!
The reception staff were friendly, efficient and helpful. The restaurant staff run a very impressive facility to a high standard, The view from my room was wonderfull and breathtaking and will remain the abiding image of our holiday. The room cleaning staff were very helpfull and work hard in keeping the rooms fresh and clean. Yes, the cost of using the Internet facility is the most expensive I have ever seen anywhere in the world. It is disgracefully slow and in my opinion borders upon being unusable.Twenty Euros for one hour is disgusting!! Either the Hotel or Swisscom are ripping off the Hotel patrons outrageously. It leaves a lasting bad memory of an otherwise very good hotel.
I was there so short time, so i cannot tell
the staff at this hotel were wonderful especially Angela the receptionist who was a mine of info the room couldnt have been better fab views very clean breakfast each morning great a five star experience we will be returning a s a p
The staff were helpful and friendly. The room had a great view of the lake and the breakfast was very good
A very nice and supporting atmosphere, caring staff, they even run to the railway station to bring you the left colledge ring. Bath, brilliant view to the lake. -
friendly staff who spoke English only buffet dinner available. No wine in the minibar. Pool outside and you had to cross the road with heavy traffic to get there.
Near the train station, breakfast, and could walk most places Front desk employees when in the concierge services could be more helpful and answer questions in greater detail, especially if a traveller is new to the area and new to Europe's transportation modes.
Everything there is excellent; the lake view, restaurant and rooms Not a thing
It was great. I would return. Perfect location, modern, and clean. Pool is across the street and right on the lake (better since you are in Stresa). They accomodated a family of three with an upgrade to a junior suite -- making sleeping arrangements comfortable for our adult son. It's hard to find a room for 3 with comfort!
The hotel atmosphere.
Location in Stresa
Nice hotel, not overwhelmingly luxurious, or large, just right for our taste. True 4 stars and in off season good value for money. Probably the most enjoyable in a trip that took us from Italy through Switzerland, Germany and France. Street noise as we were offered lake view room, but the heat in the room to high and we slept with the window open.
Location and view to lake
The hotel decor was fabulous. The restaurant and bar staff very friendly. The beds were a bit on the hard side.
I absolutely loved the view of Isola Bella and Isola Pescatori. It has the best view of any hotel in that region! Gorgeous! Didn't eat breakfast in hotel...to expensive! I'm sure it was good though. It would be great if they offered a continental breakfast for lighter eaters that was included in the room price,
The care and attention of the dining room staff, the ambience, the excellent service of the shuttle bus drivers. Rather poor pool service. I.E. they seemed to decide whether anyone would use the pool rather than the customer. We had to collect own mattresses and towels after exploring under hotel. The request to reception for help was answered by "immediately" which never came. Admittedly the weather was doubtful but still felt we should be able to use pool if we wanted too.
the luxury, the decor and the amazing views of lake maggiore nothing i did not like.
being welcomed by professionals; great assistance and service; wonderful food; comfort; spa-massages swimming pool area too noisy due to nearby busy road, unfortunately this cannot be changed... They have a nice tennis court, but it is abandoned, a real pity.
I liked the location of the hotel on the shore of Lake Maggiore with the view of the Borromean Islands front and center. The furnishings and finishes in the hotel were excellent. The staff was very courteous and helpful. The bath was cramped although it included a toilet, bidet, double sinks, shower and jacuzzi tub. The room was not spacious either but the furnishings were very nice.
Excellent hotel staff and srevice all around. Typical of Europe rooms were small, not like viewed on website. We did not get the class/level of rooms we paid for with no remedy from the hotel, this was a real dissappointment.
The hotel had a warm ,comfortable atmosphere and the staff were professional yet friendly.they accomodated our needs very well..nothing was too much trouble.dining room was excellent.room 105 stunning view The swimming pool is outdoor,i cant remember noting that beforehand.there was some confusion with booking appointments for facials etc.we would have liked the courtesy car to have run more frequently at peak times but were happy that there was a service.these are very minor comments!
Excellent, no problems at all. Price could be lower for multiple nights.
Smart, professional staff and relaxed, friendly atmosphere.
The views were fantastic and was quiet and peaceful, the short walk to town made an enjoyable evening stroll
the fact that it was a family run hotel and the family were there
All the staff were very helpful and the Hotel was decorated with excellent paintings The choice and standard of food did not come up to the high standards of this fine hotel
Room with terrace and view on the lake and the mountains was superb. Breakfast was great and plentiful. Staff and decor are very classy and the hotel is 5 minutes from the railway station by taxi. Everything was great. Stay too short.
Good value for Money, nicely kept hotel and facilities
Location to Stresa was good The Matre de in the restaurant was a very arrogant man
The air conditioning was not on when we arrived and our room felt quite cold and damp. After speaking to the management, we were given a fire and the air conditioning was eventually turned on throughout the hotel
Staff were great - many of whom spoke English. Room was large, airy, bright, very clean. Excellent location in Stresa, & easy to park car. They have a open air panoramic roof top - the view from there is stunning. The lobby area is great as there are a few different places to sit and each has different feel. Breakfast typical continental menu and nice. Great Hotel! Our room had a balcony with a sideways view of the lake which was still OK, but not as nice as a full front-on view. But nothing else to complain about at all, and positive points far outweigh this one negative point. If booking, ask for full front facing view, and ask for room on 3rd or 4th floor - best place for good views. Some rooms on lower floors are overlooked and view restricted.
Location was very good, Parking was good and free, Staff was very helpful. The food in the resturant could have been much better!
Good location. Near Stresa center. Near lae.
Excellent location, brilliant view from the balcony, big comfy bed, possibly the nicest room I've ever stayed in. None at all.
A beautiful hotel, very central, overlooking the lake. Excellent facilities and very helpful staff.
Hotel Astoria overlooks the Lago Magiore. The room comfort and service fall short for 4*s. The room comfort and service fall short for 4*s.
Location No shower, tub only. Will not return because of this issue.
The staff were helpful and friendly. Dining room staff exceptional. The room was well appointed.
peace and clean ´tomatoes and vegetables at morningpuffe
Excellent breakfast choice and lovely views of the lake. Swimming pool Guests were a bit lost with all the conference guests taking priority
Superb location & lakeside facilities. Very well placed for the town and for boat excursions. Daily invasion of couch parties - 9 coaches one night! We do not expect or wish evening entertainment in a luxury hotel but it would have been nice to have a pianist playing the usual pleasant background music.Private guests in the minority. Junior suite was disappointing - rather an 'attic conversion style'
Spacious hotel, well decorated, good evening meals various and abbandant.
The setting was marvellous and the rooms were wonderful. The price of breakfast was extortionate a family of 5 is not going to pay £25 per head.
Impressive hotel in a superb location. Spacious room with large bathroom. Excellent indoor and outdoor swimming pools with towels(although thin) provided. Next to ferry that goes to different islands and towns. The breakfast at 25 euros was too expensive, we ate breakfast around the corner in a little cafe. It would have been nice to have more information on the hotel restaurants, bars, opening times, prices etc in the room information pack, we just had a room service menu.
Swimming Pools very good, breakfast good, gardens lovely. Drinks in the bar very expensive - charged 7.50 Euro's per day for parking when street parking plentiful outside
Location, layout, size Hotel charged for bigger room which was the only possible when I booked thru Booking Com. And gave me a smaller room of cheaper category! They shoul have given a refund of 60-70 €?
swimming pool and related facilities
Wonderful location on the lake front, surrounded by mountains. Next to the boat stop for easy access. Food at the hotel restaurant was excellent, would recommend half board as local restaurants were dissapointing unless you go further afield. Staff were always friendly and helpful. The single room, had a good lake/mountain view and was well appointed, with a balcony too.
The hotel location is great The train is very close to the hotel, when we used the hair drier the electricity went off. The hotel facility is quite old.
Nice staff, lovely town. The train runs right behind the hotel and this and other things made it quite noisy.
We had a delightful stay at the hotel and thank all the staff. We have no criticisms to make. Everything was very well handled
Poupa is precious and the Garden home and gardens are beautiful and very well kept. We stay two nights each time we come to Du Park.
Friendly staff, good breakfast, clean room. Close to downtown, walking distance. East to find. Very near the train track, quite a number of trains during the night.
The setting of Du Parc is very pretty. It is conveniently located to the town of Stresa, easily walkable all around. Parking available for cars. The staff were very friendly and helpful with all our requests. The hotel is very charming. Free internet access is available. Though not a huge thing...it would have been nice to access the internet from our room, but the signal is not strong enough. One can however sit in the lounges or bar and access it from there.
Everything - this is a wonderful hotel with old world charm. Great service, breakfast and atmosphere. One of the best I have experienced.
If I were to stay again, I would request a room facing the lake, as the noise from the trains was a liitle annoying.
The estate, rooms and grounds were lovely. The staff was excellent and so friendly. Breakfasts very nice.
The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean and comfortable. The hotel was a good point for catching the ferries.
We liked the fact that there is a swimming pool. The rooms are simple but clean. The hotel is very noisy, incl. during the night, because of a train track that passes behind the hotel. The service is bureaucratic. The breakfast food quality is very low (not a single fresh item). The rooms located at the mountain side benefit from the kitchen fumes all day long, which is a pity considering the nice balcony.
Staff very helpful & friendly. Room - comfortable, attractive. Meals - delicious! Balcony- comfortable, scenic. Locations - close to sightseeing of the area's tourist attractions No.
The staff was very kind and they had private parking places( for free) for your car the brackfast was a bit poor and yhe coffee terrible
It was our 25th wedding annerversary and the staff were fantastic.Close to the lake loacation was good as was access to mountain lift. Busy road outside hotel.
very friendly staff
The staff wsa excellent and very welcoming. The room was big enough and had a balcony which was a nice surprise since we did not expect it. The only downside was that the balcony overlooks a busy road and it was quite nosy when it was opened.
Very helpful staff. An excellent pool with ample chairs etc. Easy to find. Good sized comfortable room with ample storage and a balcony. Quite a long walk into town. Breakfast was poor quality with limited choice.
Our room was so spacious and well appointed. A comfortable retreat after busy sightseeing.
The location, because it is really in the centre of the old town. Since the hotel is located in the centre of the old city, until late we can still hear people talking/laughing in the restaurants around the hotel which is a bit nuisance for us in the evening.
Ability of managers to speak English Noisy from walkways and open air restaurants below rooms. and especially from trash ickup in the morning at 6:30AM.
The staff was very friendly and the location was fantastic
the low cost of meals at the Meeting Hotel as part of the deal unavailability of an easy to enter shower cubicle
Well-run hotel, helpful staff, good location, lift Breakfast was reasonable but coffee was disgusting
The position was excellent. Right in the centre. Rooms very small, though adequate for a short stay. Could have done with 2 pillows each, such a small thing but this always makes a huge difference to our comfort.
Not much Very noisey due to location on the street. Poor accomodations. Tiny old elevator. Marginal breakfast.
This was a good basic lodging option for Stresa. It is not fancy, but the rooms are clean, the breakfast is fine, and the location is fabulous.
friendly staff. Right in the pedestrian area of town Have to get a taxi from the train station. Took a long time to check out in the morning. Can be quite noisy
The hotel was in a great location making it easy to go to and from while the weather was inclement. Breakfast excellent as was room. There were no complaints whatsoever.
Excellent location and helpful staff. Breakfast was fairly basic
The staff are really nice and the hotel is well located for the cable car and Borromee Isles. No ventilation to the bathroom made the room a little damp. Very small pool. A bit out of the action in it's location. We booked it at rack rate 110 euros which was much too expensive for this hotel. It would be good if you could get it on promotion for 70 / 80 euros.
great view of the lake and mountains, helpfullness and attitude of dining room staff; quiet and out of the way; price not bad;free parking availability on site. beds and pillows too hard; manager/hostess not very friendly; availaiblity of meals - one actually has to make a reservation to dine; no safe in room; automobile is a must, as it is too far to get to "town" or lake.
overwhelming view over the lake and the surrounding mountains and kindlyness of the persons keeping the hotel this manner of having beds made with sheets is complicated to use
simple good quality. beds were comfortable except pillows which were a bit solid.
The hotel was situated in a stunning location. Views from rooms overlooking Lago Maggiore were fantastic. Comfortable, clean room - well equipped mini bar. Spacious enough. Excellent value for money. Breakfast especially was good with a view over mountains and lake awe inspiring. Friendly staff although out of season we did not see many Restaurant for dinner was not open during off season and it is a drive, not a walk, to Stresa for evening meal. (avoid being ripped off by tourist restaurant just off the main front area). Towels in bathroom a bit odd, but probably not used to Italian ways.
Everything. Friendly staff. Great service. Good wine list. Comfortable family feel. Food was simple, excellent and geat value. 10/10 Nothing
very friendly and helpful staff, location in a very quiet island, everything
Staff were friendly. Food was good. Room was clean. View from the balcony and restaurant was splendid. Not the hotel as such but the last ferry to the island leave mainland at 7:10 pm so this is restrictive. However, if arranged in advance the hotel would organise a (free) launch to bring you back. Also, like all the island hotels/restaurants, although the food is good, it's quite pricey. As the holiday season was almost over there were very few restaurants open at night.
Very friendly and helful staff, location in a island, a lot of peace, good price, no noise, relax.Perfect for who wantsto relax.Better then stay in Stresa town.
beautiful view, helpful host, lovely setting, air conditioned! we will stay there again if we return to Lake Maggiore. Be prepared that it is on an island, so you need to take the boat back and forth. The restaurant at the hotel was not up to our expectation.
Quiet, beautiful setting, courteous & helpful staff, excellent food & service. Room was modern, clean, comfortable & had breathtaking views. The owner, Paco, & his wife could not have been more gracious & helpful in making our stay in Lake Maggiore the best three days of our three weeks in northern Italy! No!
The service at the hotel was excellent and the owner was very friendly and helpful even arranged a water taxi to pick us up early the next morning, free of charge. The restaurant at the hotel was also very good--quality and presentation of the food was as good as any 4 star.
Cleanliness of rooms, modern rooms, friendly staff, superior location No bad points!!!!
The hotel is on a beautiful and quiet island, with wonderful views across the lake towards the mountains from our balcony. The hotel was everything I had hoped for (having read reviews and information on Booking.Com and Trip Advisor) and more! The ferry/boat service to other islands and the mainland was very good. Lovely friendly and helpful staff and the hotel was clean and comfortable. The food in the hotel restaurant was quite simple, but always very tasty.
The place is simply wonderful, the staff was extremely pleasant and helpful, but not only the hotel staff, also all the few ( about 25) inhabitants of the tiny island gave us good tips and were very friendly. The room with a view have actually a breathtaking view...The hotel is run by a family, so there is not any great traditional service, but they are so kind that one can have anything, just to ask...We had a reduction because we had a doubleroom each but used as single, even though there was not any reduction shown in the reservation form. We can only recommend this little charming family hotel. For us it was not a problem, since we knew and considered it enjoyable, but the hotel is on a very small island where at night in this season all is closed and after 7 pm there is not any chance to leave or reach the island from the main land. The food was good , but the bread very average, it's not the hotel real fault, because in Italy the bread is nearly always like that.Maybe the price is a little expensive if compared with the room equipment, very tidy, but a little basic and one room for two people might be considered a little too small ( we had two rooms for single use and it was perfect). It's difficult to find any real fault for this hotel anyway, it's a quite nice place to stay for a few days.
The hotel owner,Mr. Siani, takes excellent care of his guests by providing tour advice, restaurant recommendations and reservations. He also helped with our bus transfer to Malpensa airport. The hotel location is on a quiet pedestrian street around the corner from Lake Maggiore, the bus and boat stops and lots of restaurants. The train station is about 12 minutes walk slightly uphill and 5 minutes by taxi. Our Triple Room was rather small with balcony but no view. The breakfast was modest.
The owner was very informative and recommended places of interest and local restaurants. We were there on business and did not spend much time in the hotel, our rooms were clean and comfortable and extra pillows arrived seconds after requesting them. All in all a very enjoyable stay.
Very convenient location for seeing the town of Stresa and the attractions of Lago Maggiore; very helpful staff.
The hotel staff was extremely nice and disponible, the room clean and quiet Poor choice at breakfast
Owner was very gracious!
The owner of the hotel went out of his way to make our stay more comfortable. The hotel is located on a beautiful 300 year old house.
Great location in Stresa ... close to everything! And, Johnny was the most excellent host - gave us the best, helpful & most accurate advice ever!!
The staff were very attentive, helpful and friendly. The location is right in the heart of Stresa. Good value for the money. No
Gianni the host was very helpful, went out of his way to give information about the area. We stayed on a very busy weekend, and there was an extreme amount of street/party noise. However, it was probably a one-time thing.
Proximity of hotel to island ferry, helpful and friendly staff Noisy air conditioning unit from building next door. Only affects rooms on western side of hotel
Friendly service and beautiful room.
My room with a view onto the lake, islands and mountains in the background. The staff were all very friendly and polite and were encouraging when I spoke in Italian. The bed was not very comfortable and the pillow were like a rock.
Very nice location, recently renovated structure, warm and helpful reception.
Excellent room, view and location, immediately opposite the ferry terminal. Parking is free outside the hotel (if you're patient), or there is hotel parking for a charge. The hotel is newly refurbished and the rooms are large and elegantly furnished. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. We will definitely return.
Very friendly and helpful staff
Room was large with nice lake view, good bathroom, and very convenient for ferry. Free parking is easy to get. The Pallanza part of Verbania is more peaceful and family oriented than is the Intra part. Lack of comfortable chair(s) in such a large room was a bit hard to understand. Play area for children right in front of hotel (too much noise in afternoons).
This was our first trip to Italy and only for 2 days (while on holiday in Switzerland) but the hotel San Gottardo was easy to find, excellent quality and very centrally located, the staff were very helpful, friendly and spoke good english. Our room was spotlessly clean and had a lovely view of the lake. We chose to eat at a resturant down the road because we wanted to experiance as much of Italy as we could in our 2 days but the food in the hotel looked very good. I would recommend this hotel to every one and hope to stay there again for a longer holiday in Italy.
Helpful and friendly staff our room was changed as soon as we had problems with air conditioning clean room with good view of lake The only negative thing was the restaurant. No prices listed. Food was expensive for quality and presentation. We paid 35 Euros a head plus wine for food which wasn't worthy of a canteen never mind a 4 star hotel. Cibo di scarsa qualitã . Non consiglio nessuno di mangiare qui.
What I expect from a hotel that it should be. Every thing was good.
Hotel La Sacca is a nice little hotel right by Lago Maggiore. The staff is exceptionally friendly, and goes out of your way to accomodate you. It is fine as a budget hotel with very nice views of the lake. We came at the very beginning of the season and the whole hotel had a very wet, mouldy smell. The bathrooms were mouldy, too, and breakfast is only until 09.00 in the morning, and consists of a little bread and musli. Neither proper continental nor English.
Location was great, terrific views from your room. Everyone was friendly and it seemed like they enjoyed their guests. We had a wonderful meal and the breakfast was great. The bottle of wine as a gift was a real nice gesture. I wished I had stayed more than 1 night! No
Staff very friendly, spoke good English, bed very good firm, parking on side, breakfast good selection and home made things For going to Stresa center you need a car
