Pros: This place was perfect. It so peaceful and the rooms were very comfortable. We enjoyed the beautiful view overlooking the vineyard and the pool. Unfortunately, my daughter arrived sick, and the staff went out of their way for us helping us do everything possible to make her feel better. This included helping us find our way to the Pharmacy and also helping make her a small soup to settle her stomach.

Pros: Breakfast was included and delicious - home pastries, fresh eggs made to order, beautiful view, so many kinds of jams. View was spectacular, and remote but so gorgeous. Staff were gracious, informative, helpful and kind.
Cons: Leaving
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We arrived at Quinta da Marka feeling a little bit drained after a long day of driving. Our stress dissipated upon arrival, as we were warmly greeted with a cold glass of rose and cheese plate along with a tour of the property. Within an hour of arriving, we were enjoying more of their tasty rose by the pool, while taking the gorgeous views of the Douro River, which is visible from all areas of the property including the rooms. Throughout our two day stay, we found the service to be exceptional, and the meals were delicious. We were reluctant to leave the property as we enjoyed our stay here so much
10.0 Excellent

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Staff is very kind and helpful trying to make our stay as comfortable and memorable as possible. Good food and staff made and “extra mile” to accomplish our wishes. Views are nice and great place to rest.
Cons: Towels in the bedroom need an immediate replacement as those existing are very worn out. Rooms are not big and we did expect them to be a bit larger. No secretary in the room which is unusual, especially when you need to do some work and write. Bed is comfortable and AC works very well. It is worth while though as staff makes everything happen. Thank you Angela and kitchen staff for the help and assistance.
9.3 Excellent

9.5 Excellent
Pros: The location is amazing and I found the house far more luxurious than what I expected. It was truly a treat. The views and calmness (both at day and night) as simple incredible. Also, it is really close to Quinta Nova, which is a great spot to make hikes, taste wines and spend some time in the Alto Douro.
Cons: The food was ok yet not as great as the place and the facilities. Perhaps is not so easy in the location to find alternatives. It is a very rural place. Yet, I think the views and location compensate for that disadvantage.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very nice wine-farm (quinta) with a beautiful view on the river Douro. It is a bit remote, but with a swimming pool, terraces, excellent restaurant and nice lounge there is no need to go anywhere! Staff is very friendly.

7.0 Good
Pros: Absolutely stunning setting. Amazing views over the valley. Great wines
Cons: Beds were two singles pushed together with a plastic undersheet - not what you expect for £165 a night, furthermore on the second night the sheets smelt of smoke. Food was 40 euros including wine for 3 courses but was almost school dinner like plus no discount for not drinking! I mentioned smelly sheets and bad food but no reaction other than ‘oh sorry’ from staff.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Views, wine, food, personel. Everything superb
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely everything. Claudia was amazing on arrival, super calm and relaxed, makes you feel right at home. The wine tasting and tour was also excellent. I asked a lot of questions and she was a great host. The building and rooms itself were beautiful and on a fabulous part of the valley overlooking the river. We are already working out when we can come back!
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: beautifully restored old farm setting - a architectural masterpiece; incredible view over the hills, vineyards and the Douro river. great pool, dining hall with fine old chinaware, fantastic breakfast, dinner, wine, port. Plus an extremely fascinating wine & porto tasting in the afternoon. At the old table wining & dining with the other guest - at the most four. This is always risky, but we met interesting people from different countries. and, what a pleasure ! - never and nowhere is there cheap music background. The quietness is nutrition for the soul!
Cons: not easy to find by car - there should be better signposts at the mainroad and the tough "off-road" to the Quinta
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Loved EVERYTHING! It’s a paradise location.

Pros: excellent location, peaceful and great place to relax. Maximum number of 8 people provided a very pleasant stay.
Cons: Everything met our expectations

Pros: Everything is superb, incredible location and all other features. The best holiday stay in my life.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: This is a quinta set in a most picturesque location with lots of seating areas and a pool area to enjoy the views. It is clean, comfortable, has lovely spacious rooms and good food. The staff were so pleasant and helpful. We wished we had booked a few more days here.
Cons: The access road was terrifying to me. My husband loved it. C'est la vie.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location. Takes a bit of getting to but we managed ok. Friendly staff. Lovely communal dinner for max 8 guests
9.5 Excellent
Pros: I'm so happy we stayed at Quinta da Gricha! This was one of the most beautiful locations we've ever stayed at. The property has just 4 rooms, across 2 floors, so you really feel like you have the place to yourself. The dining room has a big 8-person table which is where breakfast and dinner are served. The private chef for dinner was amazing - we dined twice during our stay and loved every bite (and the wine that went along with it). The pool area is a dream, so luxurious and with amazing views over the valley.
Cons: As other reviewers have mentioned, the road up is a bit scary - one lane wide (but cars go both ways) but totally worth it.

Cons: The decor of the hotel is a little bit old fashioned and would benefit from some updating.
8.8 Excellent
Cons: Faster service at the bar
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The room, location, style, breakfast
Cons: The restaurant is maybe little overpriced. Better value for money at the local restaurants and wine estates elsewhere around Pinhao.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful place to stay, just perfect! Comfortable, romantic, clean, cosy, beautiful vew of the Douro...
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful hotel located in a great spot on the Douro River. The food was also excellent at the hotel. Very convenient to have the rabelo boats located right near the hotel so we could take a boat tour along the Douro. Staff was great!
Cons: The only thing I did not like about the hotel does not directly have to do with the hotel itself but with the town of Pinhao. We found the town to be very rundown. Would be nice to see some investment and improvement in the streets, sidewalks and businesses to keep people in town and make them want to return.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It is Just beautiful ! Near to the river, very comfortable! Special thanks to the staff, they are always prompt to help and made our days more happy at the hotel.
Cons: Nothing came to my mind to mention

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely rooms with balcony on the river. Room was small but well appointed. Service was awesome. We would stay there again.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The location and dinner.
Cons: There was mold in the shower and the base was all scratched. Towels had stains. We requested a champagne bottle to celebrate our 1 year anniversary and the hotel staff completely disregarded that the bottle was not provided. There was no follow up with us to meet our needs.

8.0 Excellent
Pros: This property boasts a great location in the Douro river vineyards. The staff were pleasant and the food was adequate.
Cons: It was much too expensive. Everything was fine but not of the quality one should expect for the price.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Amazing property and stunning views - truly breathtaking and a once in a lifetime experience!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is remotely located with 30 minutes or more to other places on narrow twisty roads my husband loved to drive. The restaurant offers delicious food, but the small, set menus, which didn’t change during the 4 days we were there, did not offer enough flexibility for us. Also, they only offer their own wines, but will open and serve your wine without a corkage fee. We enjoyed hiking the property, lazing by the pool, leisurely breakfasts, and our first dinner. The views and decor are flawless, service is fantastic.
Cons: Our meal preferences did not match the limited tapas selections and there was no flexibility permitted in the main meal serving. Our 2nd night, after being told we couldn’t share a dinner, we reluctantly ordered two meals. The entrees that arrived were not what we ordered. The waiter acknowledged the mistake, apologized, and took them back to get the proper ones. It was 45 minutes later when we got well done lamb chops (absolutely NO pink) instead of medium rare as ordered. The waiter again apologized and offered to get us replacements. It only takes 10 minutes to correctly cook the lamb, so it was obvious our meal went to the end of the service line. It was well past time for us to eat so we declined. Other than the waiter, we never received any apologies or consideration from the chef or manager. Our following lunch and dinners were eaten offsite. The restaurant at Quinta Rosa was very nice and far more flexible. Also, a roadside restaurant directly on the other side of the river offered delicious local foods as great prices. My favorite was the fried quail plate.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: View and room were very nice. Tapas plate was fantastic.
Cons: The price seems high compared to other places in area. The accommodations and service were comparable. It would also have been nice to have a couple of small tastings included with the free tour for guests.

Pros: The accommodation was terrific a beautiful building with lovley decor good breakfast Thanks Monica

9.7 Excellent
Pros: This was my first stay at a B&B rather than a typical name brand hotel, and I am so glad I chose a place like this for my leisurely stay in wine country. The small town was quiet with amazing hilltop views of the valley. We walked to a restaurant recommended by pamphlets in the foyer, as well as a cafe, Grocery store, and pharmacy, so this town has everything you could need when traveling. I booked the top floor suite which was very spacious and comfortable, with a nice bathroom. I could tell everything has been updated and well kept. Breakfast from 8:30-10am daily had a great variety. Great room prices for such a nice place!
Cons: The location is on a hilltop involving a 20-30 minute drive from most vineyards and nice restaurants for tourism. If I went back, I might look for a place to stay that was closer to the river and activities.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff was really nice and helpful, bed was super comfortable, our room with bathroom was really nice and clean, view from to vindow to a wonderful park, breakfast was delicious (i apprechiated lot od fruits, manly local).

9.3 Excellent
Pros: They organised a visit in one of the quinta nearby, which was a great add-on to our trip.
Cons: Nothing to do with the property but the street are very narrow in the village where the accomodation is located. So a smaller car is recommended.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Kwirky house in the middle of a tiny medieval village. Accommodation well equipped. Well worth the stay
Cons: WiFi possibly hit and miss don’t bank on it
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Old village shifted back in time and forgotten by the world. Very characteristic for Douro valley with arounded vineyards. Betefull views and oryginal villages. All nice comforts in apartment.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is real Portugal! Tiny village, narrow streets, people going about doing daily chores! The apartment is fantastic! We should have booked for a weekend! Our hosts were a delightful couple with local knowledge. It really was a “refuge”! Hundred year old house with renovated interior, exceptional work! Gift of lemons from family garden, Port wine to sample from family vines and good tip for eating out in Tabuaço. Truly a real gem of a place. Highly recommend!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Barcos is situated high up the Douro and it was lovely to arrive (finally) in the 10 century village. We had a warm welcome by Marcia and her friend. The apartment is well contained and you want for nothing, everything is there if you wish to cook. Locally there are two small supermarkets and a bakery. We did a morning trip to Pinhao for a one hour river cruise and we’re back by 2pm to walk to the family winery for a fabulous tour, hosted by Jose. What a memorable experience. Thank you Jose.
Cons: As with all quaint villages there is a church. This local one had four megaphones on its roof and every 30 minutes, DAY and NIGHT the megaphones ‘chime’ bells.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The place is very cosy and clean! The communication with Jose went really well and his family welcomed us very friendly! The little village is beautiful!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Stunning medieval village in the middle of a vine region. Amazing view from the village. Super atmosphere!! :D
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The good taste of its furnishings, its village location and thr warm hospitality of the owner
Cons: The large bedroom is upstairs and the bathroom and toilet is downstairs. If the night are cold the electric heaters make little impact
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly and welcoming hosts, the whole Family really. The appartement is very nice and well equiped, good internet connection, too. We would have loved to have more time to do the wine tasting offered by the host.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: The location is fantastic, the furniture awesome, the staff super kind
Cons: The bed was approx 1,80 in length which would be perfect for 90% of the guests but my boyfriend is 1.90 so it was a bit uncomfortable as it has wood on both sides of the bed and he could not fit. For me, as I m shorter was just fine! Bells ringing loudly at 6 am
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic value for money. Great host. Good breakfast and an interesting character property. Little old fashioned in parts but that is the properties charm. Lovely pool and a great base for exploring the Douro Valley.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful old palace with nice rooms and swimming pool, just a few steps from the bar with cheap and good wine :)
Cons: Everything would be perfect if not one day a few boys not from the hotel were playing football on the swiming pool. It took a few hours and was very disturbing.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, beautiful house and pool. Good breakfast and great evening meal at adjoining restaurant.
Cons: Our host not very welcoming nor was he present when we left. We weren’t asked if we needed anything nor were we asked if we had enjoyed our stay. Very different experience to other guests who have left comments on this page.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is an old house, more like mansion actually, totally renovated but kept in the original style. It is absolutely gorgeous. The owner is an older gentleman and came to greet us, but the host who took care of us was a younger man and was wonderful. He spoke better spanish than english, so he conversed with my daughter and gave us a tour and brief history of the house. I was there with my 2 daughters, 19 and 22, and we reserved the trio bedroom. It was relatively small but adequate for us, and we had a private full bathroom. There was another bathroom right outside of the bedroom too. As it was the beginning of May, and not quite the season yet, we had the house to ourselves. Breakfast was included in the price, and it was delicious. Regular coffee pot AND espresso machine, tea, hot cocoa, juices, delicious breads, butter, jams, honey, hams and cheeses. Private parking lot and pool too for the guests (The pool was unavailable and getting filled as we left, but we did not miss it, only there for a night and a day, and we hiked). Will stay there again in a heartbeat if we ever go back to the Douro Valley!
Cons: Nothing really, except if you want a river view, you would not find it there. I did my research so knew about it ahead of time. The house is centrally located in this little town.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: It was my first experience on stay in typical european country side. It was so nice and awesome even in breakfast. Will recommend it to my friend.

Pros: The pool and the view from it were absolutly exceptional. The service at the hotel in general was welcoming and very friendly.
Cons: Would be great to have a restaurant on site as it's a bit out of town. Beds could be a bit bigger.
7.5 Good
Pros: The facilities were very good. The location on the one hand is far from the village, Needed to take a car to get for dinner. Breakfast was very good.
Cons: It mentioned on the booking.com site that the hotel has a restaurant. We discovered that the restaurant is not in the hotel, but in the village Pinhao for which we needed to take the car which meant no wine. This was misleading. Also we expected to visit the jacuzzi/whirlpool but it was in maintenance and the pool is only outside and during our stay end of June it was too cold to use these facilities.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely great experience. Staff were nice and friendly, we were given free upgrade to junior suite. Very comfortable and clean and quite room, nice view, easy access to pool, welcome drink in the right moment.
Cons: Breakfast was not too exciting, as there is no proper restaurant in the building, but we were given a 10% discount for LBV restaurant downtown. May be a bit too up in a mountain if you have no car, but if you have, it’s superb location!
9.5 Excellent

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Nice balcony and view.
Cons: Room was small.

8.0 Excellent
Pros: I was surprised how large and modern the 2 story hotel was for a small mountainous village. The room was very comfortable with a good size verandah. Breakfast was excellent and lunch in their restaurant was good value. Recommended
Cons: There was nothing to complain about really
7.0 Good
Pros: The housekeeping and desk staff very helpful, polite, informed, and patient. Everyone tried hard to make us comfortable. Rooms cleaned daily; fresh towels provided. Lobby comfortable and bright. Full , free breakfasts. Good location for driving to/from other small villages in the Douro Valley. Free on- street and private property. Small balcony with each room.
Cons: Bed mattresses were uncomfortable, rooms and bathrooms quite small, no room access internet (but was available free of charge in lobby).
7.0 Good
Pros: This was a comfortable hotel to stay in. It was like a business hotel. We had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant, and that was fine. There's free parking in the street outside, and the hotel was quiet. We booked that morning and Pinhao was full or more expensive, so we opted for Tabuaço.
Cons: Tabuaço is a pretty quiet place in the evening, so there's not a lot going on. There's a German-style restaurant round the corner, but when we got back to the hotel after a short exploration we decided to eat in the hotel. Reception staff were a bit overworked, as only one was on duty at a time and filling various roles. There wasn't a lot of information about the area.
10.0 Excellent

Cons: None

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Friendly and helpful staff on reception and in the restaurant. Large comfy room with terrace - ideal for relaxing with a drink after a long drive! Restaurant had good choice of food at reasonable prices. Free parking outside was a bonus. Clean modern bathroom and comfy beds. Good value for money.
Cons: Rather a long way off the beaten track but we were expecting this so it wasn’t a surprise. Sunday evening in Tabuaço was very quiet - no other options for food or drink.

3.0 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing!
Cons: Since the beginning, all was bad, the location is referenced as Tabuaço, also in google maps send you to the center of Tabuaço, (Tabuaço, small village but with normal resources like restaurants or cafeteria) but in reality the house is in Pinheiros (Pinheiros is 10km from Tabuaço, and is just a place, with 20 houses and no infrastructure, no restaurants no nothing), the problem is that all is set to led you in miss understating of the real place you are booking your room. Accommodation and House – in reality is not a real hotel / pension, is a normal house that is not fully converted to rent rooms, the bed and the conditions of the room are not at the level that are charged, and cleaning of the room is not made from one day to another. They provided breakfast in the morning, but in the day of arrival they are not prepared to serve food, they just don’t do it! So if you want to have dinner when you arrive, you have to go 10km in the mountain into to Tabuaço.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful comfortable house and furniture lovely well stocked kitchen good swimming pool great views and good country air
Cons: 7 Km from nearest restaurant
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: It was a very attractive old vineyard homestead with many antiques
Cons: No hot water. Pool unusable. Creaky old bed that was very small for a double and woke us up every time we moved. Aggressive demand for money as soon as we arrived. No receipt offered for money. Could hear every toilet, basin and shower being used. Gurgling pool filtration system going all night. Disorganised breakfast where we were all unsure of what was clean and what wasn’t. Terrace equipment either not available or broken. Very difficult to find. No local source of evening meal within 5 km
