9.5 Excellent
Pros: Loved the breakfast and coffee! And the service standard of staff is impeccable. If you're looking to visit the islands, the staff know a lot and would give really good recommendations. They're also extremely accommodating. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Special shoutout to Kae who was really amazing.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The Staff at Uno Port in were amazing. So helpful and friendly. The food and coffee were great and location to the ferry was superb.
Cons: There wasn’t much ventilation in the rooms or bathroom but this wasn’t too much of an issue
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location is perfect, less than a minute (walking) to the ferry. Comfy authentic Japanese rooms, private bathroom, delicious breakfast and coffee. Also super friendly staff, we recommand starting here to everyone!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A fantastic base for the Art Islands. The staff is extrememly knowledgable about the islands and logistics. The hotel is lovely. Breakfast is delicious. Also all the staff speaks English which is really helpful with the logistics of planning an itinerary for the islands.
Cons: We liked everything!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff were so accommodating and helpful. The location is perfect if you want to do various art island visits.
Cons: Nothing
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The staff were lovely. Miko checked us in and very thoughtfully worked us through the optimal schedule for catching ferries and getting buses so we had a perfectly smooth trip. Such attention to guests is rare even in Japan. We also met Minako at reception who was very helpful, and Max who was cool and talkative with all the guests. We had a really nice breakfast that was included and the salad bowl we had for lunch the next day was nicer than anything you can get in Tokyo where we live. Would def come back and recommend this place to anyone wanting to visit the art islands of Naoshima and around.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The ambiance and the staff are superb. Good location near the train station. Breakfast is simple but delicious. Spare some time to enjoy. Max the owner will greet you and make you feel welcome thanks Max
Cons: Rooms are small but we spend only one night there in the way to naoshima.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: This is a charming small in with lots of personality and exceptional staff. Max and Shizuka were amazing hosts, talking to us (in fluent English) about the area, the art islands and museums. They play American radio and serve excellent espresso — uncommon in Japan. And while your bathroom isn’t en suite, you have a private bathroom that you can lock and leave your toiletries inside. Very conveniently located one block from the train station, the ferry terminal and the high speed passenger boat terminals (different pier). Highly recommended. Excellent “hidden” yakatori place specializes in gourmet breeds of chicken around the corner!
Cons: Not much to see in the port area, which was a shame. Very quiet commercial street.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Rooms upstairs with futon beds are a much better value. Breakfast is great and staff are very helpful and welcoming.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The staff is really kind also give us lots of the information of Uno and Naoshima. Also the locations great!!! Just beside the Uno train station, 7-11 and the port.

9.3 Excellent
Pros: Had great stay here for three nights while exploring Naoshima and Teshima as a solo traveller. The owner is wonderfully friendly. She spoke great English and made me feel very welcome. Free breakfast was a welcome surprise and other guests were friendly and happy to say hello or have a chat. Everything was clean and the owner even asked if I wanted to wash any of my clothing. Location was conveniently close to Miyanoura Port for ferry access. To reach Yayoi Kusama's Yellow Pumpkin and the Benesse Art Site you will need to rent a bicycle or catch the town bus to Honmura Port and around the island.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Very comfy. The shared toilets and shower were not a problem, everything perfect. The free breakfast was a really nice surprise.
Cons: Nothing, everything right!

9.3 Excellent
Pros: Great spot to stay to explore the art islands. We hired bikes and enjoyed cruising around the island.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: very cute, clean and perfect location!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: first time experience old Japanese house, very nice!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Great house to rent with friends - three rooms all double size could fit 6 people total for about 25,000 yen.
Cons: Very thin walls, woken up by other guests late at night and 5.45am early in the morning. Cleaners started cleaning the house well before check out, around 9am. Very noisy! Fine if you are up early but not so good if you want to sleep in.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Everything was very nice, good traditional japanese home with all needed facilities. Can recommend.
Cons: Nothing bad. Internet was a little slow, but we were on an island so it's expected. I still could watch a 720p movie online though, so it's not too slow.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: We wanted to experience a stay at a ryokan and it met our expectations of a Japanese inn. We enjoyed the historical and cultural ambience of the architectural space and forms. The comfort of modern bathroom facilities provides the added plus. With only 3 rooms in the ryokan, it was quiet and other guests were respectful and considerate. As a place to return from touring sights on Naoshima-Cho it was a welcome stay.
Cons: Not so much a dislike as an understanding the two toilets and one shower/bath are shared by the guests. With only three rooms however it was never a problem.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The house was immaculately laid out, the facilities were beautiful and the rooms were spacious.
Cons: They started cleaning the house at 8:30am (complete with loud vacuuming), check out is at 10am. Sleeping in was not an option.
6.3 Good
Cons: Although fully aware of the basic principle of the Japanese hotel style, this was pushing it. No real possibilities to make breakfast, no water purifier just some tea. Felt unwelcome by the cleaning staff starting their work at 0845 (2 hours before check out time), eventually we went out earlier than planned because of this.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: If you want to experience the traditional house of Japanese, please come here. The location is great, really close to the 7-11 also the port and bus station. Staff is great, and please inform them the arrive time due to they are not always there as mention. Hope everyone could enjoy your stay like me.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Able to book an electric bike the day before as the owners here also own a bike rental place.....otherwise sometimrs very difficult to find this and you need it in Naoshima. Have stayed.in several places in Naoshima amd this was best one so far.
Cons: We never met the owner only the (nice) cleaning lady.

9.5 Excellent
Pros: Charming place & friendly folks! Picked us up at the train station, brought us to the ferry with our backpacks the day after.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Kazu, the owner is very people oriented. Helped everyone to plan their stay and made sure they got the most from their schedule. Including bespoke breakfasts, He’s exceptional.
Cons: Everything was fine. The distance to the ferry terminal was overcome by Kazu driving us there. No problem to catch a local cab back.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. They were willing to pick me up at the station and took me to the ferry early morning. Also, they took care of my luggage while I was visiting Naoshima. Great communication too. Room was traditional and nicely set.
Cons: I could hear people snoring next door.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Yuki was an amazing host, she picked up from the train station and delivered me back. Her house is lovely, ask for a room overlooking the garden. Futon was super comfy. Breakfast was very good. She had great advice for visiting Naoshima suggesting the best route by bike to avoid long uphill rides. You won’t regret staying here it is lovely. Thank you Yuki.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff are so incredibly kind and friendly and helpful. They picked me up from Uno Station and dropped me off to the ferry to get to Naoshima. The guesthouse is gorgeous and so clean! I had the best stay - I wish I could have stayed longer! I would highly recommend this place to anyone and would definitely stay again.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: This is such a wonderful guesthouse to stay in, located a 15min walk away from Uno station it was easy to get to from Okayama and easy access to Uno port where I went to Naoshima Island for one of the days I was there. The staff were all so welcoming and friendly. They offered to pick me up from the station when I arrived and drive me and my luggage to the guesthouse! Yuki-san gave loads of great advice on my trip to Naoshima and also advised I tried the local onsen (which is tattoo friendly and a lovely place to bathe). She also gave advice on where to go food shopping in the area and where to have dinner. Whilst Tamano is small the resturants are good! The breakfast the staff prepared was delicious every morning and would recommend getting it at least once whilst you are there. They offer Japanese style as well as toast and fruit. Overall would recommend staying here as it's easy access to the art islands and offers a lovely location in Tamano town.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: They were kind enough to pickup us in the Uno Station and bringing us back to the station on our check out date. Their tips and explanation about the islands around helped us a lot.

9.3 Excellent
Pros: Convinient appartment in a silent area in a central part of the village, Close to the port where the boat brings you to the mainland and only a few minutes walk to restaurants and the Information Centre. If you like walking, it is also a nice walk from the Apartment to many of the good museums in the area. Great nature also.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very beautiful and authentic place, very large apartment, very well placed, very peaceful, very nice gardens, very dedicated hosts and employees.
Cons: Propose 1 cold water bottle per arriving guest would improve the level of service, specially in hot summer.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Lovely owner, very helpful, great breakfast.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Beds comfortable, friendly and helpful owner.
Cons: Fishing boats start early.
6.2 Good
Cons: Nice man running the Ryokan but needs a woman’s touch. Gardens are lovely but need better care. Nothing to wear at night. Not a very good breakfast. No juice/fruit. Served in my room rather than a garden where others met. And the host smokes.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Super clean, great amenities, washer in unit, very spacious with mini kitchen, breakfast option is good and convenient. The owners are incredibly nice and even gave us a ride to the port. The place has non motorized bicycles for guests use No additional cost. Loved the stay for the amenities and the owners. They made the experience very personable and homie.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very central location and they had bikes that we could take to ride around the island. Warm reception from the owner who was very nice and also very helpful.
Cons: There was nothing that we didn't like about this Guest House. Seriously.
5.5 Okay
Pros: The place was a building site and very scruffy. Unusual in Japan. The owner was surly and unfriendly, but his wife was very polite and accommodating.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Exceptional location. 400 years old house. Breakfast with fresh salad and tomatoes from the garden. Very friendly and helpful host. 2 bedrooms Japanese style for the 4 of us (family with 2 Children). Bike where available free of charge to discover the island.
Cons: Nothing. It was amazing.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Very clean and spacious, friendly host, excellent location right near Honmura port.
Cons: My bed was a bit small. I wish the two twin beds had been made into a double bed. The bugs were very loud outside.
Namihei II - Naoshima - Bedroom
6
8.5 Excellent (103 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Namihei II offers accommodation in Naoshima. The property is located by Tsumuura Port. Every room at this guest house is air conditioned and is fitted with a flat-screen TV. Every room includes a shared bathroom. There is free shuttle service at the property. The guest house also offers free use of bicycles. Takamatsu is 13 km from Namihei II, while Okayama is 24 km away.
6.8 Good
Pros: An electric bike provided by the owner. A kitchen with all the necessary stuff.
Cons: The property is quite far from the village: about 25 min by foot. It did not disturb me, but it could be an inconvenient for some. There is a bus stop not far away. The room is bigger than usual but basic. On the website, it is mentioned of futon. In reality, two single folding beds, not very stable. A couple would have some problems playing together in such conditions.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: There are only two rooms in the hostel, which meant that we had the whole hostel to ourselves so we basically got a house for the night. The bathroom was lovely.
Cons: The place is a bit cold, but rooms are fine as they have heaters inside. It is a bit on the expensive side, but that is to be expected for a hostel on Naoshima.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was brilliant! We had bicycles and we did a bit of riding around to see everything. The place is in a quiet part of the island and the sunrise was beautiful.
Cons: nothing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was easy to get to, the accommodation was way better than the photos. And the owner gave us a lift back to the port on the other side of the island
Cons: It wasnt obvious where we were staying. Had to knock on the door of the home next door which turned out to be the owner
8.5 Excellent
Pros: The man who runs the place doesn’t speak English, but he is really nice and he gave us a ride to the ferry port and the galleries.
5.5 Okay
Cons: We thought it was seedy
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Great beach side inn. The rooms were pretty big and had everything you need. The location isn’t that close to the port but I rented an electric bicycle from the port area and I got to the property in about 10 minutes. And then the bike came in handy for exploring the rest of the island that day and the next.
Cons: Bathroom probably could have been slightly cleaner.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Loved how after a long day of site seeing we could just walk to the beach for a swim.
Cons: No complaints. Very charming place!
6.8 Good
Cons: One of the reasons we decided to book Nimihei 2 was the fact the owners offer free bikes which given that there are only 2 local buses every hour and only 2 restaurants (no breakfast option) was very helpful. The owners are elderly couple who don't speak any English. The bikes looked old and a bit tired but seemed to work fine. All was well when we cycled on a relatively flat or only slightly hilly road which was the case for most of the day but as soon as we started going down a steep hill both my husband and I realised the brakes didn't work as they should have. To cut a long story short, while I was going down the front wheel brake broke down completely and to my utter horror and disbelief I couldn't stop at all!! I had no choice but literally ride at full speed into a ditch in a vain attempt to stop and jump off the bike!! I hit my head really badly while doing so, ended up with a nasty deep cut on my nose which bled terribly and two massive bruises on my leg. I had to go to Naoshima Hospital and then had another check up at a local surgery in Yokohama which so far has cost me almost 12.000 Yen. The doctor said it was a miracle I didn't break anything... The owner seemed concerned when we got back from the hospital and paid for the taxi. We explained that his bikes are dangerous and absolutely not fit for purpose and he must have ALL FOUR of them serviced or should buy new ones. As I was limping really badly and my knee was swollen and of course on top of being quite shaken I had a splitting headache, we asked the owner whether we could stay an additional night to give me a chance to rest before a long travel day to our next destination. He agreed and then at check out the following morning charged us a full price! He offered to drive us to the ferry though which I guess together with paying for the taxi earlier was his idea of an appology...
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We could not have been happier. Spacious room with view over water (an upgrade!). Coffee and tea—fridge, microwave and toaster oven available. Super friendly and responsive hosts. Nice free bicycles (with functioning brakes!). Wish we could have stayed longer. Quiet calm part of island—but easy to access art venues by bike, walking or local bus (100 yen). Easy to get to guesthouse using local bus too from either port.
Cons: All great.
Dormitory in Kowloon - Naoshima - Building

8.4 Excellent (388 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Dormitory in Kowloon in Naoshima, you'll be within a 5-minute drive of Naoshima Ferry Terminal and Benesse House. Featured amenities include laundry facilities and microwave in a common area.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic location by the port and the onsen, spacious kitchen and living area, very kind staff, towel provided.
Cons: Could have had individual lights on the bunk beds.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Loved staying here, such lovely hosts. Great location to use as a home base. Close to all the nice eateries and bicycle rental spots. A stones throw from the ferry dock. Ended up staying two nights because I liked it so much!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: They have showers but the owner advised me to use the public baths which are right next door. The baths have are unique and colourful and well worth a visit. It was late when I went and I had them all to myself.
6.3 Good
Pros: i liked the location and the lady that ran the hostel was kind enough to buy me some beer after leaving check in unattended
Cons: the facilities were very run down and beds were not comfortable. Also the check in phone wasn't working
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Location location location!! And the beds are pretty good
Cons: The floor was a bit creaky, but honestly it wasn't too bad
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Cheap and cheerful! As a family of 4, we were lucky enough to get our own room with double bunks. Comfortable place to sleep the night. We did use the kitchen, though it’s also the smoking room. Only one other guest who smoked, so we just worked around him. Great location right near the ferry. We hired electric bikes and had so much fun getting around the island, rain or shine. The manager was so welcoming and helpful.
Cons: Personal preference - the smoking inside - but hard to avoid altogether in Japan.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Awesome attention and care
7.5 Good
Pros: Super friendly lady! Very flexible as to when i was arriving, leaving my bag there (the whole day) the next day when i wasn’t going to sleep there again at night. Perfect location. Literally 2 steps away from the pier!
Cons: I was there alone and it was very creepy at night. It’s an old house that had an old feel to it. The whole night (!) there were doors clapping from the wind i think. (While it wasn’t even windh outside) so i barely got sleep. And out of all hostels i’ve had all over Japan, this one was the most expensive.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We were only there for a night and the host helped us make the most of the time!
5.8 Okay
Pros: The location was very good
Cons: It was the worst stay in Japan, there is tapis plein in the whole building, it is really old and not comfortable and above all: my most expensive hostel during my trip. For this price I got so much nicer rooms, but ofcourse this is on an island..:

8.3 Excellent (75 reviews)
Overview Reviews

9.3 Excellent
Pros: Dinner and breakfast were great.
Cons: One toilet and one bathroom.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The host was very welcoming and breakfast and dinner were great each day. Having laundry facilities on the property was great.
7.5 Good
Pros: Gluten free food provided really well (not a common experience so far) and generally excellent food at the restaurant.
Cons: None of us were keen to sit on the floor, and only three chairs was slightly challenging.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Close to ferry and good cafe next door
Cons: The owner wasn’t particularly welcoming. Food was ok but expensive for what we got.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: We liked the traditional breakfast on our first morning. The second morning Yoshi had made coffee and eggs for us. He had seen us in the coffee shop the day before. All the food at Yoshi’s was excellent. The house we stayed in does need some touch ups, but we enjoyed staying there and having an entire appartment to ourselves. To stay at Yoshi’s house, you need to keep an open mind and remember that you are staying on an island in rural Japan. Staying on Naoshima was one of the highlights of our Japan trip.
Cons: When we first got there the house was VERY cold, but we were able to heat it up quite quickly. Taking a shower in the freezing cold bathroom the next morning was a challenge, but by day 2 we were already used to it. No problem.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The food and the house
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The AnnexMe location is very close to the restaurant (walking distance), very big and suitable also for 6+ people. We were only 3. We enjoyed our stay. The bath has recently been renewed. Overall the location is clean and typical Japanese. Our guests were amazing in the way the cared about us and our 7yo son. The dinner were superb!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The staff responded to my email promptly every time. They are very nice people and gave us a great deal. We did not want to eat there because my husband is vegan. They understood and made it an exception. The bath was very new and nice. We also liked the cold glasses in the fridge. So much detail.... Thank you very very much! We will definitely stay there again!!!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The food was excellent, the tastiest we tried in Japan
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The house had plenty of space. It was in a very quiet area. The food was amazing.
Cons: The house was a little run down.
Guesthouse Shell - Naoshima - Building
9
8.1 Excellent (153 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Guest house SHELL in Naoshima, you'll be a 5-minute walk from Naoshima Ferry Terminal and within a 5-minute drive of Benesse House. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
6.8 Good
Pros: Room os is spacious for 2 people. Bathroom is communal and small. If you are 1.8 m or taller watch your head. The manager is never available so you're pretty much on your own. Light breakfast.
Cons: No assistance, no manager on site. Pay and stay.
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing
Cons: Really not worth the money! Dirty place, small and too many people.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Close to everything and breakfast included
Cons: Walls were a little thin, heard quite a few sounds throughout the night, but only a minor issue !
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly greeting by the staff, fantastic location, simple but decent room and nice shared kitchen.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: This is a Japanese style guesthouse in the interesting island of Naoshima. It was one of the last available options in the island and the price was right so we decided going there. Then thin walls mean you hear every move from the other rooms (there are not too many, like 5-6 rooms in the property), but this happens in every place like this. As we planned to wake early to visit it was not a problem. You sleep in futons and they are comfortable for futons and the bathroom and toilet were clean. The area is very quiet and just 5-10mn walking to the ferry and center of town. We didn't see the owner, but she was quick at communicating online and left a nice breakfasta basket, with bread, egg and yogurt. We prepared coffee and tea in the kitchen and left satisfied with the whole experience. We would return here.
Cons: If you plan to sleep in and are sensitive to noise, this is not the best place. We had a problem with the shower: no hot water. It looks like another guest had a long shower just before and we didn't have time to wait for the hot water to refill.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very relaxed, honor-based and respectful. House rules were easy to follow and space was super cute with very comfy futon bedding. The owner stopped by each night to drop off breakfast for the following morning. It was a sweet little gesture, and really the icing on the cake. Not too far from Benesse House, and very close to Hommura Port, the bus stop for the island bus, and the Art House Project houses. Near a handful of cute restaurants, but nice and quiet.
Cons: Cats outside got a little noisy at night, but that’s not the owner’s fault. Don’t expect a 5-star hotel experience, but as a user of hostels, this place ticks all of the boxes. No complaints.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: It was lovely to have breakfast brought to us! Thank you! The restaurants we tried were lovely and delicious but there were not very many open and we struggled both nights to find a place to eat supper. The beds were fine. We are just not used to sleeping on the floor.
6.8 Good
Pros: The rooms were really nice and nicely equiped. Also the house was clean and provided everything you need for a pleasant stay. Further the location is really nice at the smaller port of the Island.
Cons: The staff spoke very little english and could not help much. The house is open and no staff around to check in. Everything is communicated with post-its (which is indeed helpful and detailed). In order to Check-in and pay one has to be in the house between 8 and 9pm. In our case this was around 8:45pm. This means we had to stay ready for this time. For all of this (service) the prize seems to be high even though the Island attracts a lot of people and we stayed there during Setouchi Triennale.
Diamond Setouchi Marine Hotel - Tamano - Building
10
8.0 Excellent (1,023 reviews)
Overview Reviews
When you stay at Diamond Setouchi Marine Hotel in Tamano, you'll be on the beach, within a 10-minute drive of Uno Port and Kojima Jeans Street. Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby, dry cleaning/laundry services, and a 24-hour front desk. Planning an event in Tamano? This hotel has facilities measuring 236 square feet (22 square meters), including conference space.
6.3 Good
Pros: The view was nice. Breakfast restaurant staff was very nice to my toddler. Baby play area was a bonus. Hot spring was nice. I saw baby bath equipments in public bath area and a cot in drying area. It was great for family with a baby.
Cons: Needing to pay extra for a towel for my toddler was silly considering that the this is not a cheap hotel. No air conditioning was working on the day of our stay and we were advised to leave the floor to ceiling window that leads to balcony open to let cool air in. It was unsafe to do so for a family with a toddler.
2.5 Mediocre
Cons: The hotel didn’t match the description at all. The facilities are outdated and smelly and the rooms are small, dusty and smell terribly. Dinner at the hotel restaurant is extremely expensive and there are no further options. The price was ridiculously expensive considering the conditions, location and overall experience.
6.8 Good
Pros: We liked the position by the beach. The staff were very helpful and friendly, especially Yuki
Cons: Our initial rooms smelt of cigarette smoke despite being non smoking rooms. When we opened the door to get fresh air the smell from the kitchen was overwhelming.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Visiting Naoshima? A comfortable Japanese middle class family hotel at the beach. We arrived by bus from Okayama in the afternoon. After check-in we bought some drinks in the shop and went to the beach. The food in the Japanese style cafeteria opposite the onsen was basic but just fine. The onsen is nice. Not a wellness paradise, but just okay for the evening. Next morning, we took the 7:30 bus to Uno, went to 7Eleven to buy breakfast - to eat on the ferry to Naoshima. By nine in the morning we were already riding our bicycles on the art island.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: great hot spring and other facility (we enjoyed playing Taiko ^^), the staff are nice and friendly; really close to the sea
Cons: there is not convenient store or supermarket nearby; Uno port is 20 mins from the hotel by bus (which costs around 390 yen) , the hotel should maybe consider providing free shuttle bus
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The staff surprisingly spoke great English, considering the hotel is in a small town that does not get many international tourists. The onsen was really lovely, made of wood, really big, with a lovely sauna. The beach was stunning and on a nice day would have made for great swimming. The hotel itself had great amenities, like a little shop and a big restaurant, with some charming ones (eg old 1970s features that had been modernised like the old switches that had been turned into usb chargers).
Cons: Nothing to complain about really.
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: Bonus question - How would you describe the style of the property? Antigo decadente
10.0 Excellent
Pros: great location for visiting Naoshima
3.0 Mediocre
Cons: The property very outdated and didn’t feel clean. The sheets were stained and the comforter was super dirty. The staff was a bit rude at times and there is nothing surrounding the property. Also- the food is absolutely awful.

8.0 Excellent
Pros: Delivered everything it promised. Easy walk to the ferry terminal
Cons: Bathroom not designed for a tall person! Room had a slightly fishy smell
7.0 Good
Pros: The beds were comfortable, the host was lovely, great location for ferry to the islands. A very good coffee shop nearby.
Cons: The portrayal on booking.com was misleading. We did get a private bathroom, but it was on another floor, as was the toilet. The grass matting on the floor has an overwhelming smell, and the street noise was loud. Comparable to other properties we stayed, it was a little overpriced.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This was a truly excellent place to stay. Extremely comfortable and the lady at check in was very friendly.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: We had a nice 3 nights there. Everything was fine. We got to go to Triennale everyday so we came back exausted. The bath was recovering. Love the amenities. The bed was really good too.
Cons: There was a big spider when we were leaving
5.8 Okay
Pros: Convenient to ferry for Naoshima
Cons: The place is very tired. Bathroom very very basic. Bed was comfortable but superior room was in road side with traffic noise. Very minimal service at property. They really don’t want to be bothered by guests.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Close to the train station and the port so perfect base to visit the surrounding island. The staff was super friendly and provided us with some tips (eat, shopping etc) for Uno. Room was clean, comfortable and towels were changed daily. Nice hotel!
Cons: No baggage storage and check in quite early.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Very clean and tidy small Japanese style guesthouse. Close to Uno station and the port, very suitable for artsy people who wants to visit Naoshima in the next day. Staffs are very responsive.
Cons: Do not offer luggage storage service.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Slept well on comfy mattress. Good private tub. Very convenient to ferry, train and restaurants.
Cons: Know that it is an older building with wear and tear.
6.8 Good
Pros: Good sized unique rooms with personal touch, comfortable beds and artwork on walls.
Cons: Not great value compared to other ryokans with very late check in and no baggage held
5.0 Okay

6.3 Good
Pros: Location is great if you go to Hommura Port.
Cons: Not so clean, there was some light in the room all the time ...
4.5 Okay
Cons: Only one shower for complete hostel. One male toilet, which wasnt that hygienic
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owner was very nice and helpful, and the location was fantastic - close to the art house projects and the main museums. Plenty of bike rentals around and right on the port to visit Teshima or head back to a main port such as uno. My friend and I loved our stay and both said we would definitely stay again
Cons: Not enough light in the mixed dorm area, quite dark but other than that everything was fantastic!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The property was overall nice and I was glad the property was available, because everything else was above budget and was not suitable.
5.5 Okay
Cons: Only one bathroom and one toilet.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The location was great.
Cons: The girl at the reception was not very friendly. The coffee run out before we could try. To noisy at night. To expensive for the comodities.
7.0 Good
Pros: Sheltered bicycle parking, privacy of capsule, helpful staff, close to art house project and Honmura port.
Cons: Kitchen and bathroom spaces could have been cleaner, and appliances/fittings updated.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The location was excellent - right by Honmura port and a minute away from the bus station. It was also really close to the Art House Project and the Tadao Ando museum, and a few nice restaurants and shops. The host was excellent too! I asked her if I could check in earlier (7 hours before the agreed checkin time!) and she was incredibly accommodating, communicating with me in advance through several email threads and showing up to open the door for me.
Cons: Obviously living in a hostel, it will be loud at times and shared facilities won't always be extremely clean, but for the price you pay it is expected.
4.3 Okay
Pros: There is kitchen and bar to sit and talk.
Cons: One Bathroom for All! and Water Heater is Broken! Two Toilet for Men and Women... Musty smell of wood in sleep area The air conditioner is not cold Expensive than quality!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: A good place to stay to visit Naoshima! Everything is good considering price and quality.
Cons: One shower is maybe not so much for the amount of people staying there, but that's it.

7.0 Good
Pros: Despite the limited English our host made sure we had dinner when arriving late. The cat cafe was quirky, but memorable.
Cons: To be fair we knew this was a minshuku and that we would be sleeping on traditional tatami mats but we didn't realize there would be no other furniture which made it harder to be in the room for longer periods of time.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: We like kittens and the lady running the hostel loves kittens a lot too! The breakfast is good!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owner was very nice and friendly.
6.8 Good
Pros: Staff and location. Bed was cofortable. Ok given the price.
Cons: Not very clean, crowded and noisey (angry french tourists...), thin walls. No cats!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Pleasant hostess, very comfortable tatami room in a clean house, very good AC. Excellent location, close to the Honmura Port, Ando House and Art-House Project attractions, convenience store, bus stop to Museums and beach etc.
Cons: The stairs were a little tricky when we had to use them in the middle of the night to use the bathroom in the first floor. No problem for younger people I am sure.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Lovely traditional old house. Great location for cafes and art house project. Laundry facilities.
Cons: Completely dependent on the other guests. By nature, no sound proofing at all - so some of our days were delightful with consensus tip-toeing and discreet hushed voices, some grim/torrid. Convenience stores and cafes operate limited hours: worth taking some reserve supplies! However when access achieved, the store(s) and cafes were delightful.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: This was a traditional ryokan property with tatami mats and futons. It was very comfortable. Mostly families staying and very pleasant. You could sit in garden which was delightfully eccentric. The owner and her family were very friendly although very little English. This was fine as we tried to use a very little Japanese and we all got by!
6.3 Good
Pros: Very clean. Good location. Very good bathrooms.
Cons: Hard floor to sleep on. Property full of eccentric stuff. Lady did not speak any English.
7.0 Good
Pros: Location is in the heart of Honmura, very convenient to visit the art-house project. Overall pretty clean, slept on tatami and mattress in a relatively spacious room, with shared bathroom.
Cons: On the downside there was some dust in the air so would not recommend to someone with allergies.
7.0 Good
Pros: Big room, quiet, homely, close to bus station, great breakfast.
Cons: Toilet was a bit smelly, kitchen areas could do with a spruce up & there was not enough cats! We wanted the cats!! Possibly a little overpriced for what we got.

9.3 Excellent
Pros: Masa-san was awesome! So helpful and kind, very thoughtful, answered all our questions about the island, and was a true delight. Would stay there again.

Pros: It was a quiet non tourist area
Cons: The bed cover was very synthetic and there was no curtain between the men’s and women’s room

9.5 Excellent
Pros: Masakazu, the manager is the nicest guy!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The manager was really lovely and extremely friendly. He made so much effort to make us feel welcome and we really did. We had a very large double room with one of the comfiest beds I've ever had in a guest house. The house and the room was extremely clean and the area was very quiet. We had an amazing nights sleep. We will be back. :-)
Cons: We liked it all!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great wifi. Isolated quiet location.
7.5 Good
Pros: The owner was very friendly. House is well kept and pretty clean overall.
Cons: It is a little far from both naoshima piers on foot, (but if you manage to rent a bike immediately as you got to the island you should be sorted) a tad dark to go back alone at night!
8.5 Excellent
Pros: Everything was really nice! The host was very kind. The emplacement was really quiet except the nice birds songs ;) . We appreciated having a kitchen to cook. Everything was authentic.
Cons: The only point that was not perfect is the garden and the kitchen that were a bit messy.
