Nice quiet place, good service, ok place
Wonderful family run hotel. On arrival we recieved a very warm welcome and were given a beautiful room furnished in keeping with the Georgian period of the building. A nice modern bathroom with quality toiletries and a good power shower. The restaurant is very elegantly furnished and the quality of the food at dinner was fantastic. A little more expensive than average, but then this is not your average restaurant, worth every penny for a special night out. The owner is very passionate about both his food and wine. Excelent full english breakfast. This hotel was exaxctly what I was looking for as a weekend treat for my partners birthday.
Chef Patron served breakfast wearing dirty whites and not over sociable, restaurant was rather rowdy we opted to dine elsewhere. Room decor was rather dated. Cutlery and tableware could have been in better condition. No one was about to receive the keys when we left.
Beautiful countryside, great shopping in Birmingham. The grounds of the hotel were very well kept. well past its refurb date. environmental health and health and safety issues.
Spacious, well equipped room. Very comfortable and clean. Nothing
Friendliness of owners
Excellent Breakfast (didn't have dinner) Friendly helful staff
noisy revellers in the nearby Market Tavern Pub, a short distance from the hotel - this isn't a reflection on Chapel House b/c they could not control for that occurrence, but it did interfere with our sleep.
Excellent food, wireless Internet access, excellent service.
Nice bar. Good reasonably priced food. Staff courteous and helpful Shower was a bit weak but otherwise no complaints
Warm friendly staff, breakfast very tasty (but no grilled tomotoes!) Generally very good - we would visit again. Some small but important niggles:- cheap toilet paper, hook behind bathroom door really cheap looking, shower head of poor quality, carpet in lounge/dining room far to busy (pattern made me feel sick). No Sunday papers. Pillow on bed very flat and synthetic.
Friendly staff, good locality
Bar decor, food, welcome
I booked the hotel to celebrate my husbands 40th birthday, it was a surprise party and we had 26 guests, all the staff went out of their way to make sure that my husband was not aware and they made the evening one to remember. the service and food were fantastic
Lovely place felt v peaceful Menu needs a re think
Food was excellent
Good semi-rural location, low cost, friendly and helpful staff. The windows open fully. Free wi-fi. They have a function on Friday nights that costs extra, even for guests. Some downstairs rooms overlooked.
very basic room for the money also very noisy at night , value for money very poor
Very quiet hotel, well-built roads in the vicinity, no-noise, perfect for relaxation and walks in nature, very decently equipped rooms, very friendly staff, highly recommended. -
The staff were friendly and welcoming, we had a warm cosy room, there was an excellent breakfast choice. I would use this B&B again, definitely recommend it.
Welcoming & helpful staff
Breakfast was very good. The mattress Room 5 far too soft, needs replacing
Breakfast was good. Room wasn't that clean. We had some spots on the duvet etc. We arrived Friday evening and the room was directly above the bar/disco. That was extremely noisy. But it was not just people talking but also very loud music until 12.30 am! After we called the reception the answer was just "You should know that it is loud here because we are located on the High Street". So be aware that it is very noisy in all rooms and you will get sleep after 1 am.
The room was nice and clean and there was lots of choice for breakfast. The single person price for double rooms makes it good value for money. The TV wasn't tuned in very well and the room was a little cold.
Good breakfast, value for money
the meal choice was excellent and the value for money was outstanding
The front of house reception was excellent the room bar smoking area was were good and the menu had great choice with good prices The hotel had a wine of the month advertised on their blackboard the most expensive on the wine list When asking for this they had none in there coolling cabinet They brought one from the cellar which was slightly cool and they offered to put it in an ice bucket which they did Unfortunatley the bar staff filled the bucket with ice not mixed with water to cool it Could the bar /waiting stafff do with more training
The rooms in the annex across the road were great - really quiet when the hotel was busy and noisy. Breakfast was good but a little over cooked. All in all an excellent value for money stay
Friendly staff - Young ladies serving in the restaurant were very helpful and polite. We did complain about the fillet steak on the night but did not wish to wait for another one to cooked. We were given a sweet as compensation for the poor steak. The meal on Friday 13th was only average, 2 x Lamb shank cooked very well. 2 x Steaks one T bone (Med Rare) one Fillet (medium) had both been kept warm had become dry. Vegetables had been over cooked for the Lamb shank meals. Starters and sweet where excellent. Breakfast sausage and bacon burnt. Mushrooms were not cooked through. Presentation poor. Nobody available to complain to. The time it took for these meals to be cooked was excessive. I would shudder to think how long it would have taken had the restaurant been busy. The decor etc needs up dating.
Wonderful old historic inn. Pleasant pub. Staff very helpful Parking is something of a problem. Furniture is old, but clean and comfortable. Most people would be bothered by the Saturday night crowd that gats a rocking party going about midnight right outside the window. . .but we were forwarned, and so exhausted, we could have slept through the Normandy invasion!
It was cheap and the staff were helpful Room not double glazed. Soundproofing between rooms not brilliant.
Nothing! The room and hotel were so bad, we did not stay for our second night, but chose to drive 200 miles home instead. The room was damp and musty, there is a club in the middle of the hotel that I do not recall seeing mentioned on the website, that was open until 2am, the toilets for the club were opposite our room door.
Clean and Tidy, not noisy on the Thursday night we stayed. Couldn't fault it's cleanliness. It was what it was, a town centre pub/small hotel.
a friendly bar - and bar staff no sign of management the quilt interior was dirty and rough - it could not be replaced on the first night no staff available, was replaced on night 2 with excellent clean linnen and quilt - Saturday night was a riot, the noise outside was awfull - not warned - no sleep until the early hours
Staff friendly and obliging Some of the staff had difficulty with english and remembering what we had ordered but compensated by going the extra mile. Coded entry to both hotel and bedrooms was a bit of a chore.
Nothing The room was very small, the facilities in the room were poor, the wall sockets extension leads hanging off the walls and the T V had very poor reception
Nothing Room decor was shabby ,bedside lamp did not work, unplesant odour from shower room and in hallway,no reception therefore checked in,in hallway. Curtains thin matrial therfore street light shone through.
The hotel is in a good location in Ashby and we have stayed here on many occasions in the past. You get what you pay for and it is adequate for our needs. We had a bad experience this time round as having asked the barmaid what time breakfast was in the morning, she gave us the wrong times. We only realised this when we got up for breakfast and was told that it had finished 20 minutes earlier. Even after we explained that we had been told those times by their staff, the hotel staff that were on in the morning did nothing to apologise or even offer to make us something to make up for their mistake.
Staff were friendly The bathrooms needed to be upgraded
