The Pousada is much nicer than we were led to expect by other reports. The views, from the rooms and the restaurant, are spectacular. Appreciated the freshly-squeezed orange juice and the big selection of breads and rolls at breakfast. It has no lift.
Excellent location both for relaxing and shopping. No parking area reserved for hotel guests.
Everything is excelent
panoramic view, nice room with balcony, kindness of personel, quietness, dinner and breakfast music in dining room: only 3 perpetuating numbers
The very special sorroundings, and the fantasticview from our room overlooking the river . The food, especially the starters were not matching the overall good impression. It was very hard to find the right entrance to the castle from the map we printed out from your site.
Very good price for a large comfortable room. View across the road to park and fortress. On street parking outside on a busy road but noise not a problem Great value for money.
The room has good conditions and the staff is always available. The price is excelent. The city is also very nice No.
Good value hotel. Breakfast was disappointing.
It is very close to the castle - point of interest for the turists. It is very very old. If we could travel back in time 20 years ago, the hotel would be in a great condition... It is a little creepy! The corridors, the carpets, the wallpaper...
Good value for the price. Very close to the Fortaleza (just 3 minutes on foot to the castle gates).
The rooms were spacious, clean, and well lighted. The breakfast was very good. The hotel was in an excellent location.
Despite somewhat shabby exterior, interior very nice and comfortable. Very lose to old town. Good restaurant next door. Busy road, some traffic noise
Great position just opposite the castle and flexible about an early breakfast. Staff spoke English.
Very close to town centre and castle. 10% discount for youth travellers. I'm quite sure the hotel doesn't diserve 3 stars, the true rating is 2 max 2 and a half star. Quite old facilities, in early 1980s the hotel was a modern and good one, however since then management hasn't invest in the hotel at all. The walls were made out of paper I guess, in the night I wasn't able to sleep because of a telephone call of my neighbour and he seemed to be whispering. Quite poor breakfeast.
Stayed only one night. Appreciated a lot the design from the 70's-80's that is just as it was back then! Specially the radio controls at the top of the bed :-)
Excellent rooms, service and breakfast. Valenca and Cerveira surounds were also very recomendable. Nothing at all.
Hotel corridors were covered in works of art. The room had a balcony and a good poolside view. The breakfast was included. The best value European hotel that I have stayed in. Apart from breakfast the food available was poor but there is a cafe and a good restaurant nearby.
Comfort and warmth
The location is great, very close to the medieval city of Valença and the crossborder with Spain. The infra-structure is modern and the surroundings very calm. I've ordered a double room, but what I got was a twin. In this way, I recommed to specify your preference in the observations box while you are booking the room. The breakfast is in general terms good, however the breakfast room is very small for the size and capacity of the Hotel. One time I had to wait for other guests to finish their meal. The waiters are very competent, but due to the "confusion" their working in, they are always running, what makes you feel uncomfortable. However, if you go on a regular weekend (I've stayed on a 3 day-weekend, with Monday being a holiday), it must be more calm.
pool area very limited availability of drinks at the pool bar with the argument that the hotel is not placing more orders since they want to end with the stock - this indicates poor customer service and poor good management practices
This is a superb hotel in terms of comfort and enjoyment, this was my second stay there so you can see I really enjoy it ! The restaurant is an excellent venue with superb food and helpful staff. I recommend this hotel its a gem.
This is a nice modern hotel to stay for a few days, visiting the surroundings. The room was comfortable and clean. The hotel staff was really nice and very helpful. The hotel, apart form the breakfast does not serve any more meals. If you want to have dinner or lunch you'll have to go to a nearby restaurant that belongs to the same owner, but we do not recommend it at all. Well, is quite a shock coming from the clean cool contemporary approach of the hotel to one of the best portuguese/spanish and traditional kitsch examples. Absolutely vulgar.
surroundings helpful staff nice breakfast
Very clean, the breakfast was excellent, a lovely pool, the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Atmospeher Internet in room
Quiet, magnificient view to the valley, hospitality of the staff, it's a very romantic place.
Wonderful landscapes, nice instalations and very courteous staff. No internet wireless available in the hotel main areas.
The location and the facilities (in the main building) are quite good. The building is very nice. Some aspects were not up to par, for a four star hotel. There was a persistent sewage smell in the bathroom. The room heating was not available, although the wheather was already chilly, especially in the morning. The sofas in the room had the cloth worn, and the wadding was visible. One of the carpets in the room was rather dirty.
beautifull convent vieuw from garden towards river swimming pool also one for kids - free tennis court
Very good landscape. Very beatiful location. Very nice pool. Excellent place to rest.
Beautiful building and location with large, comfortable room. View is fantastic. Not within walking distance of much, but easy drive to some charming, touristy beach towns.
The recovery of this ancient convent is very beautiful, and the rooms facing the river are incerdible.
Probably the best value for money I had during b15 years of business travel
Good location for further trips and perfect place for relaxing weekend
Beautiful renovation maintaining original characteristics, modernizing the architecture. Staff very helpful and willing. Great restaurant.
It's a quite place to stay with a beautiful view to the river. A good place to rest.
We needed a place to stay
THe town was very interesting, other than that the hotel was not too impressive
Friendly, helpful staff. Quiet within easy walking distance of the town. Good food in the restaurant. The scrambled eggs
I like very much the hotel and the villages arround
The location and the facilities. The Spa is interesting. Short of staff. The restaurant only works by reservation and this was not informed to us. A group arrived and the restaurant was not avialableto the other guest as they not use table more than once.
The surrounding area its really pretty and nice. Calm place near the river and an ancient fort.
The staff is very nice! It's also a very peacefull place to stay!
The staff did try to help. The hotel is supposed to be a thermal spa, but there has not been a thermal spa at the site since 2005. I think information about this should be included. We would not have traveled to Moncao if we had know this.
The air conditioning was great. The bathroom was clean. The staff were nice and helpful. The matress felt comfortable at first but it's way too soft. More than one night and you will get a backache. The water jet shower wasnt that effective. The next bedroom guests came in at 1 am and were noisy for an hour, talking, shaving and banging the razor on the sink to do it, slamming doors (the doors of the rooms slamshut as they close). The next day I mentioned the noisy guests and the hotel staff said they have been staying there for a while and are "usually like that" so beware of staying near room 112-113 where they usually stay apparently.
very beautifull location and clean room. crazy shower. not very easy indeed. The breakfast was not complete and the staff was a little confused in the morning.
