Pros: It's a beautifully restored colonial building with the loveliest color scheme throughout. Once you walk in the deep blue building through the antique red painted doors, a new world of comfortable experience opens up.
Cons: I like everything.
This hotel is a little treasure in the (sometimes crazy) heart of Merida. The beautiful, personal touches of the owners make a big difference in the style of the decor and the way they welcome their guests. We felt really like family for them! Location, space and breakfast were also absolutely perfect. I highly recommend it!
Pros: The carachter of the interior decor, the helpfulness and kindness of the owners, the location.
Location is great, and within walking distance of historical places of interest. Taxi fare from ADO bus station near the Fiesta Americana was only 40 pesos. Be sure to pick up a free copy of the Yucatan Today tourist guide in the hotel office. It is full of useful information and maps. With it, and the advice of the hepful hotel staff, we easily found our way around the city. We would definitely stay at this hotel again.
Pros: Despite its convenient central location, Hotel Medio Mundo is a quiet oasis in busy Merida. The staff was very kind and helpful, and the room was just what we expected--simple & beautiful. We loved the hand-painted sink. Breakfast was fresh & delicious.
Cons: Washcloths are not provided by the hotel. Next time, we will bring our own.

Pros: Staff was helpful. Close to the middle of town. Bus stop right outside the door. Very quiet rooms. Beds were comfortable. Surprisingly quiet given the noise outside. No venders allowed in the hotel. Pool area very beautiful and relaxing. Shower nice. Restaurant very good. Breakfast was surprisingly nice. It wasn't like Marriott or Hilton's bar breakfast. It was free breakfast off the regular menu. Mexicans love to feed their guests. Rooms weres huge and very charming.
Cons: The bathroom ceiling was full of mold. Walking into the warm room was gross. A double room meant two double beds. Way too small. Asked to change rooms and was given a king size and double. Two queens easily could fit in this enormous room. Bedding old. 4 people staying in the room, two small waters given each day. Not enough potable water. Wifi temperamental but sufficient. Pool too cold to swim in.
Pros: Very nice, large, comfortable rooms, centrally located to the historic center of town. Staff was helpful and friendly.
Cons: Unfortunately, I stayed during renovation to the outside pool, which was not usable.

Pros: Casa del Balam is very well located in the heart of the historic district within an easy walk to the main plaza. We were there for a scientific meeting which was right across the street at the University of the Yucatan. Restaurants are all nearby and the one attached to the Casa was as good as any. We had breakfast every day (we were there a week) in the Casa's courtyard beside the fountain and serenaded by the white-winged doves. The room was on the second floor so we walked up and down and it became a haven for those really hot days you get in May in the Yucatan. The room was always clean and cool and the beds were very comfortable. The staff was most welcoming and ready to arrange a tour, give you more bottled water or answer any questions. All in all a great place to stay for a very reasonable price.
Cons: We liked everything.
