Everything, from the room to hospitality The hosts were fantastic and really warm and made us feel welcomed and at home.Special mention for Hom, who is the manager at the property, he took great care of us and became part of our family and ensured that every small detail is taken care of.The owner family were warm, friendly and helpful. If ever we are going back to Zhangjiajie we will go back to Glass Cube.
A fabulous gem of a place which far exceeded our expectations. Loved our stay so much that we stayed another night in addition to the 3 nights we originally booked. Such an idyllic, tranquil, secluded and rustic setting - the property is surrounded by a gorgeous bamboo forest and offers a wonderful first view of the peaks of Huangshizhai in the distance. Yet it has all the modern amenities needed for a comfortable stay. And it is only an easy 2 km walk to the South entrance of the National Forest Park. The owners are a local couple (Mr Long and his wife, Xiao Mei) who live on the property with their two young daughters. Genuinely friendly, sincere, warm-hearted and generous hosts - you can feel the care and pride they take in ensuring their guests have a comfortable stay. We were upgraded at no extra cost to the Superior Family Chalet with Mountain View – spacious and very clean, this room has comfortable heated beds and an excellent bathroom (particularly, the heated toilet with hands-free flushing). while making our way to breakfast every morning. Breakfast is included and was very good – it was a big spread prepared using fresh local ingredients. The beautifully fresh and sweet vegetables from the property's vegetable garden were particularly memorable. We had enjoyable chats with Mr Long and Xiao Mei during our stay - we had dinner at the property on two nights given the good and reasonably priced food. Xiao Mei, in particular, was very helpful and informative. She was also very hospitable and piled us constantly with complimentary extras - fruit, tea, beer, homemade liquor and even homemade delicacies from Mr Long's hometown. Neither Mr Long nor Xiaomei speaks English but they have a staff member (a courteous and friendly young man) who speaks good English (and, we are told, even better Japanese). When we checked out, this young man surprised us with a little souvenir which was heartwarming. We would highly recommend this place.
Nothing to dislike really! You have to climb a long flight of stairs for about 10-15 min to reach the property; you may hear roosters crowing early in the morning; the rooms may not be particularly sound-proof because of their wooden walls/flooring; but I think all these add to the rustic charm of the place. Would recommend getting the property to fetch you. Otherwise, if you choose to arrange your own transport to the property, inform them about your time of arrival so that they can send someone to help you with your luggage up the stairs.
It was so typical and modern at the same time. Hom who is the contact on site is very helpful for anything you may need.
Maybe the 300 steps to go up to the Inn but this it what makes it so special
The glass cube guesthouse is nestled among the trees on a hill. They have a variety of rooms and they upgraded me to a beautiful double bed room. The breakfast is great and you can order a variety of food for dinner. The host Hom was super helpful explaining the ins and outs of the national park (his english is great) and offered to accompany me for the day to explore the park. As the hotel is up the hill you need to walk up a stair path way for about 7 min. They have staff to carry your bag.
They offer pick up service to and from airport or town which is great but can get a bit expensive.
From the moment we arrived we were met with excellent service. Special shout out to our main man HOM who speaks excellent English, and is a fountain of knowledge when it came to the park. Hom knows the park like the back of his hand and had some excellent route suggestions especially as I wasn’t so good with heights. We stayed in the couples superior chalet and the rainbow hub room in the forest, both rooms were beautiful and uniquely designed with excellent facilities (comfy beds, excellent bathrooms). There is also a view of the mountains which was a brilliant sight on our way to breakfast every morning. I can’t recommend each room enough, both rooms different and amazing in their own ways. The rainbow room is so private, it’s located in the forest away from everything, at night it glows in the colours of the rainbow and has a panoramic view of the trees and while you lay in bed at night you can gaze at the stars, we absolutely loved it. While in the chalet this is a traditional suite at its finest, the woodwork was so elegant, and had a bathroom which had views of the mountains from the tub. We also ate both nights and the food was terrific, reasonably priced and tasty. Most of the plants are grown at the property. Breakfast was Asia style but even so tasty. WiFi worked fine. The property is owned by a friendly family who were also very kind, both nights the daughter of the owners (aged 4 and 9) gifted us a tart and yogurt which was very sweet, and we spoke to owner who designed the rooms himself. There was also a fire every night in the court yard but we were too excited to use our room we didn’t attend but had we stayed longer we totally had a beer round the fire. In terms of location, it’s great. It’s not in the park but you don’t want to be in the park nothing is really there and lots of development work is taking place, we were about 5 minutes down the road which was accessible by the bus (2 yuan equivalent of 10p) and easily walked.
The only things I could recommend is: 1) a blind in the rainbow room toilet for privacy 2) Offering cooking classes as a day time or evening activity as the facility is so well kept with gardens and the food is tasty you would be missing a trick if you didn’t offer!
