Top tips for finding cheap flights to China

  • Looking for cheap airfare to China? 25% of our users found tickets to China for the following prices or less: From Los Angeles $647 one-way - $1,157 round-trip, from New York John F Kennedy Intl $1,049 one-way - $2,096 round-trip
  • Book at least 2 weeks before departure in order to get a below-average price.
  • High season is considered to be November and December. The cheapest month to fly from the United States is April.
  • Enter your preferred departure airport and travel dates into the search form above to unlock the latest China flight deals.
  • If you’re flying from the U.S. to Hong Kong, your flight will arrive at Hong Kong International Airport (HKG). The airport receives multiple airlines flying from Chicago (ORD), New York (JFK), Atlanta (ATL), Washington (IAD), and San Francisco (SFO), among other cities.
  • Beijing Capital Airport (PEK) receives the most flights from the U.S. to China. It is a big, modern, and busy airport with Terminals 1, 2, and 3 being connected by a shuttle bus. Booking a flight to this airport gives you more options to choose from.
  • If you’re flying to Shanghai, consider booking your flight to Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG). The airport handles most of the flights to Shanghai from the U.S. and also enjoys great transportation links with the city center.
  • HKG Airport consists of two massive terminals, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, as well as the Midfield and North Satellite Concourse. A driverless train connects the terminals and concourses, and also moving sidewalks are provided to reduce the number of walking passengers.
  • If your final destination is around Southern China, book your flight to Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN). This is the major airport that serves flights from the U.S. to Guangdong, Southern Province.
  • The Chinese capital city of Beijing is served by two international airports but only one of them, Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK) or Beijing Airport, is used for flights originating from the US. Beijing Airport along with Shenyang Airport (SHE) in Liaoning province open the northeast corridor that includes Inner Mongolia to the north and Tianjin to the south.
  • Alternatively, if your flight from the US to China is destined for the second city, Shanghai, you will land at either Shanghai Pu Dong International Airport (PVG) or Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport (SHA). The municipality of Shanghai lies between the provinces of Zhejiang to the south and Jiangsu to the north and is the gateway to the East China Sea.
  • Chengdu Shuangliu Airport (CTU) is the primary airport serving Sichuan province, which is bordered by Tibet to the west, Qinghai province to the north, Yunnan province to the south and the municipality of Chongqing in the east. It is considered the main hub that unlocks the area known as Western China.
  • If your destination is Shanghai, Nanjing or Beijing from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), you can choose between China Southern and Hainan Airlines, which provide the shortest flights from the West Coast to these major Chinese cities. Sichuan Airlines has cheaper fares than both, however, with two layovers on your outbound flight, it will take you much longer to get there.
  • Hunan province is a great starting point to travel to the southern provinces of Guangxi and Guangdong as well as to visit the popular Macau Peninsula and the group of islands that include Hainan to the west, bordering the South China Sea. If this region is your destination, then Changsha Huanghua Airport (CSX) is where your flight should terminate.

"You can't check in now because it's a US flight, so it's only 24 hours". "You can't check in now because of visa documents something you have to check in at the airport". None of this was written down, or even satisfactorily explained when I tried to understand what was going on. Next time I'll fly Asiana on the hope they have a better online seat selection system that doesn't involve bizarre US checkin policy."
Cons: "On long flights, the seats need to be more comfortable and there needs to be more entertainment options. Also was not sure why we could not book seats even though we booked tickets in October."
Pros: "Well maintained plane, nice staff and over very comfortable."

Pros: "Crews were very nice"
Cons: "Seat could have been a bit more comfortable and a little more leg room"
Pros: "The crew was good. There were only 39 people on a 737 1/2 hour flight, so not much to comment."
Cons: "This was a connection to an EVA flight. I had 1.5 hours to clear immigration/customs AND go to the gate which was on the other side of the terminal which involved taking 2 shuttle trains and walking to THE END of the terminal C where the shuttle train was being rebuilt; only to discover the gate had"
Pros: "This was a first overseas flight in a long time. This airline earned their 5 star status. Great service, attendants where very helpful and available. Seating was tight but functional. Restrooms were very clean and the for service was always on time, fast and efficient. The food was airline good, but I'd say slightlyabove average and plenty of drink options."
Cons: "The wifi offered was not good at all and I was charged for it and never connected once. Advice- Save your money on this one."
Pros: "The service from the arrival to the airport to the actual flight was impeccable. The flight attendants kept me hydrated and full to my stomach going and coming from my destination."
Pros: "I like the whole round trip flight. from smooth and fast boarding process to big leg room for my premium economy seat. Food are good with 2 choises and staff are pleasant."
Cons: "Nothing I don’t like"
Cons: "The crew were not very friendly, they went about their tasks but did not engage with the customers in a friendly manner. It was very much as though they were doing the minimum for the job/flight. For instance, when you board and sit down the first thing they give you is the menu and then the landing card. But I've just sat down I don't need these two extra pieces of paper immediately. I sat on an aisle and must have been knocked 5-6 times by the carts. After I was bumped then I hear the 'excuse us, carts coming through'."
Pros: "Seats are spacious and comfortable. Flights were on time and arrived on time."
Cons: "Food was not too good."

Pros: "Delayed the whole night on the first flight and almost 2 hours on the flight back. Unbelievable!"
Cons: "The airline's on time record has got to improve. Period."
Cons: "2 hour delay from Incheon to Tokyo. Messed up our travel plan a bit."
Pros: "Great service. Good food. Excellent entertainment options. Coach had widest seats I've ever sat in. Asiana is always my first choice for China-LAX."
Cons: "There was loads of turbulence, but it was handled well. And frankly, an airline can't control air conditions. So I have no real bad things to say about this flight."
Pros: "It’s difficult to choose what part of the flight was the best, but the overall experience will make me come back for more. The check-in process took very little time. The flight staff was friendly and courteous and had a smile throughout the flight. The lighting was so much brighter than with the first and second legs of my flight and the plane was very clean, to the point where one could eat off the floor. the in-flight entertainment, clothes rack, charger, and remote controller were all right in front of you instead of being tucked in by your side. The food quality was savory and refreshing. I should have asked for a second meal as it was that good even for a short economy flight."
Cons: "the salad and desserts were excellent, as was the chicken and rice, but I would have appreciated a choice for my main menu selection."
Pros: "Despite the Covid-19, l'm so happy that China Airlines is operating and safely brought us back to SFO."
Pros: "The flight was a great value for the price and the staff was amazing and attentive."
Cons: "The vegetarian meals were pretty bad and I felt like the entertainment selection wasn’t great."
Pros: "The crews were super excellent. Kind and warm hearted services. Airplane is old but it is a short haul and does not matter much."
Pros: "Yes the crew was amazing and the seat"
Cons: "As long as nothing bad happens that is plenty good enough."
Pros: "Comfortable plane and a good price"
Cons: "Long queues for check in at Manila - I should have checked in online. Boarding was chaotic and people were getting stressed - maybe people could line up in seat row order to make the boarding process smoother."
Cons: "China Airlines website does NOT allow you to choose your seat even thought I purchased my airfare well in advance."
Pros: "Quick boarding, staff english is good. Good movie selection."
Cons: "seat not very cushioned, food is okay. Low TV documentary selection."
Cons: "No seat number on the ticket. Wrong gate number. Food has hairs in it. I have back pain problem...was asking for the outside seating so I can stand up one in a while but got Negative answer for both ways....don’t think to book with you guys and China Airlines again.....very painful experience."
Pros: "Unknown flight by most of travelers thus easy parking, easy check-in, and no long security check line. 30 minutes, from check-in to be at boarding gate."
Cons: "A ONT airport is a dying airport thus no amenities available near or in the airport. It is more a "local" airport then International airport but who cares. You get your flight going quickly........."
Pros: "good it was not a long flight."
Cons: "The crew was a bit negligent. They passed me when serving the food just because the aisle seat passenger next to me was served his special meal earlier, so they did not notice that the passenger at the window seat (which was me) had no tray in front of him when running the regular meal service. Isn't this sloppy !? Problem is that once they passed you, it's hard to get their attention, as they are always in a hurry, and not looking over the cabin just to check if someone needs something or wants to call on them for any reason, and there are no attendant calling buttons available. So you have to wait until they come by your seat again. Finally I got my meal with apologies 15 minutes later, but the experience was already ruined and the negative impression built.. Also, when departing from Taipei, the boarding process was a bit disorganized, compared with the one we had in Vancouver. As for as the entertainment, the LCD monitor at my seat was pretty worn out, with very poor contrast, making it difficult to watch a movie or read information. Same airline with two opposing experiences: Vancouver-to-Taipei very good, Taipei-to-Manila: poor."
