Flying on a daytime departure from NYC to ICN I had a lot of empty seats to stretch out on and it was pretty quiet for a long flight to Asia."

Solves the problem. Also, the "upgrade" to the bulkhead seat is only good if you have a baby in a carrier or really long legs. If you like having your bags near you, or want to keep stuff at your feet to work on, or like to raise the arm between seats, or have a tray table and pocket in front of you... you won't have any of those in the bulkhead upgrade seat. And the phone customer support simply doesn't know enough English to explain these things properly. Fortunately someone else was happy to switch with me. Lastly, they really don't understand that special meals do not need to lack in flavor. Non-Lactose Meals are super boring in flavor - and there was no reason at all not to serve the bulgogi or spicy pork dishes for the NLML! They seemed surprised when I asked to switch it, which suggests to me that the attendants don't even know what 'non-lactose' means, though they were very sweet about confirming and delivering me my special (bland) meals. But asking for a packet of gochujang solves that problem!"

Cons: "first, although this was an international trip , in business class, the seats were more like something you would find in the premium economy section of other airlines. They were tired and outdated. Second, The entertainment package was abysmal. Basically, you were forced to watch a TV with bad reception, and no ability to choose what you wanted to see other than flipping through the channels and seeing what was already on. That meant never seeing the beginning of a movie. The picture quality was very poor. Although an international flight of seven hours duration, it felt more like a charter bus to Vegas buy a discount operator. I have the exact same experience flying from Korea to San Francisco on a prior trip. If I could learn how to determine which aircraft I would be flying in the future, I would never book an international trip on Asiana knowing that this particular aircraft would convey me."

Pros: "Everyone was so personable. We had 4 adults , 2 boys and a baby girl so it was hard to get everyone situated but with the staff on the plane it was just simplicity. All of our needs were met , wether it was someone wanting an extra blanket or the baby needing food or even helping the 2 boys get situated before and after take off . They apparently love babies because they couldn't get enough of ours and were always wanting to play with her and make her smile (which goes along way) and that helped her not feel so groggy on the plane . They know it's a long flight so they get you comfortable even down to giving you slippers and great tasting food."

Pros: "The company called one travel agency quoted $1,000.00 per ticket from Vancouver to tokyo. I purchased 3 tickets but in about 3 weeks later I find out that they cancelled it. I complained about it and they asked if I wanted to purchase the same tickets from the same flight and seas for $1,500.00. Because I wanted to save $50 (Air Canada was $1,050.00 through Travelocity at the time), I had to pay $1,400.00 for Air Canada ticket 3 weeks later. I will never fly ANNA or deal with travel one. Even though it is a little more expensive I will only deal with reputable company such as travelocity."

Cons: "6:40pm Friday flight was delayed 2 hours, and when we finally boarded, pulled away from the gate, and were ready to takeoff, they announced the flight was cancelled because they can't meet the curfew at Narita Airport. Took us another hour to deplane, and another hour to go through immigration and customs (yes we had to do it again), and get our bags. Then they sent us to a hotel 30 mins outside Seoul (they told us it was 20), gave us a Lotteria fast food burger and asked us to be in the lobby at 4:50AM (it was already midnight). Bus didn't have enough space for everyone so they had to call a van too. When we arrived at the airport after our 30 min ride, the bus dropped us off on the wrong side and we all had to walk 15 mins to the opposite end of the airport to check in. Since the rescheduled flight was the first flight out, the airport was super busy and security lines were extra long. After all those lines there was barely enough time to get on the plane. Summary: from originally scheduled time until wheels up I waited in about 6 hours of lines or just sitting around,1 hour of bus rides, slept 3 hours, and ate one lousy burger. All of this for what was supposed to be a nice weekend trip to Tokyo, which chopped down to a 30 hour stay in Tokyo. These guys should have known what time they can pull away from the gate to make curfew. There's no reason why we all had to go through this extra aggravation. Turns out Asiana has been making really tight schedules to accommodate the summer peak season, and they just can't keep up."

Cons: "* Failure at communication: At check-in we were told that they cannot route the luggage to the final destination (Shanghai). We will have to fetch the luggage from the luggage belt and check it in again at Chengdu airport from scratch. Also it was not possible to get the boarding pass for this flight online and select seats. This was brand new information for us. Nor China Southern, nor KLM nor Kayak did inform us about this at anytime. This never happened to us and if we knew in advance we would not have booked this connection (one in Amsterdam and one in Chengdu). Passengers need to be informed about this! Some people mentioned this is Chinese state policy, still not sure about this though. * Horrible transfer experience: In summary we were on ourselves, information was absent or just plain wrong by the ground staff at Chengdu airport. Which resultet in us queuing in 3 different lanes. Even in the first lane we queued, following official signs for transfer, the first staff told us we can queue here but then the lady at the counter (after 30min queueing) told us to go somewhere else instead. We had to wait in the rain to take a shuttle bus to another terminal. There we then queued at a China Southern counter, but it turned out to be incompatible with our ticket (booked with China Southern but operated by China Eastern - not communicated to us). Hence we queued yet again at a China Eastern counter which was eventually the correct one. Common to all this was the negative attitude of all staff which basically didn't care at all and were just incompetent. Note that this was not a language issue, as one of us is fluent in Chinese. * Once boarded the plane, which was 25% full, we were even disallowed to change seats due to "weight balance issue" (which seems to be just a joke given the weight of the airplane itself...). Note that the check-in agent explicitely told that because the plane is half-full we can just freely select an empty seat - yet another false information. * Conclusion: 1. Transparent information is they key for making a booking decision. 2. Do not fly via Chengdu airport. This will just ruin your trip. This airport is not ready to serve as international transfer spot."

They were quickly running through the isles with duty free but no one knew what they were selling as no catalogue in seat pocket. Qualified as a good domestic flight - not really of international standard with dirty toilets after an hour of flight time"

Cons: "This ridiculous airline and it's rude, obnoxious staff in Chengdu made a mockery of my friend and I (two 21 year old American girls traveling alone). We had booked round trip tickets back in October 2017 that included a 1 hour layover in Chengdu first, then a 7 hour layover in Shanghai on our way to Bangkok for a trip in Thailand. That was fine with us. Then all of a sudden it changed to a 6 hour layover in Chengdu then an 18 HOUR layover in Shanghai. We decided to deal with it and get a hotel room in Shanghai, no big deal. After a great trip in Thailand and leaving fine from Bangkok to our first layover in Chengdu, that is where the nightmare started. First off, going through Chengdu customs, I don't know if it is because Americans do not travel through there a lot, but the officers pulled us aside and were passing around our American passports around their staff, taking pictures of them with Iphones before handing us "in-transit" paperwork to fill out. As weird as that was, no one really seemed to speak english and we just wanted to get away from them and get through. When we went to the check in counter, they handed me a boarding pass for our flight at 1:50 that afternoon, but then proceeded to tell my friend that she wasn't on a flight until the next morning at 7 am out of Chengdu and our original connecting flight out of Shanghai at 11:50 the next morning was now at 8 pm for her. What could have been simply fixed like it WAS after calling priceline and our travel agent, the staff at the ticket counter and a representative over the phone made our lives living hell. They barely spoke english and the ones that did were very rude to us, saying that they couldn't help us and put us on the phone with China Eastern. FOR AN HOUR AND A HALF we were on the phone with a representative who was talking us in circles, telling us that there were no available seats on the 1:50 and that he could get her on the next 3:45 out of Chengdu, then put us on hold to come back and say he couldn't only change 1 domestic flight in China, but would have to cancel her flight to NY. When offering to pay to just DO IT and get out of china, he said that if he were to cancel it and take our credit card info, it "may or may not go through" and if it didn't she would be stuck with no flights. When asked how that made any sense, he proceeds to say" Because miss, our system sucks," and other rude things like "Why can't you just keep your flight and meet your friend in NY." then him along with a rude ticket counter guy say that he could help us if we took 5,000 yuan out of the bank and paid them cash. TRYING TO SCAM US. After all this drama a simple call to priceline was able to fix the problem no payment involved, and there WERE available seats on all the flights and a domestic flight could be changed. LYING, SCAMMING, RUDE, individuals. Definitely worth a little more money to take any other airline BUT THIS ONE."

Cons: "Finding China Eastern in very large terminal. Almost no signs in English."

Cons: "Very disappointed with seat, choice of movies and food was not edible. Very poor when compared to business class on other airlines."
Cons: "This flight was delayed 12 hours. They kept the passengers in a terminal that was partially open to outdoors, and this was in the middle of winter and it was only 35° F. In fact the reason for the delay was because of weather. When asked about a Plan B, they talked in circles and gave us no real answers. Every hour they said wait another hour and this went on for 12 hours. Had they just cancelled the flight early on and made other arrangements, passengers could have gotten out of the cold and gotten food for themselves. When told that people were hungry and freezing, instead of moving to an indoor heated terminal, they simply brought down airplane blankets which did little, and a case of water bottles and airplane food to which they only passed out to the Chinese passengers and when any nonChinese passengers went to get food or water, there were turned away. I truly have never experienced anything in my life like this. It borderlined on inhumane. Worst experience of my life. Do not ever fly China Eastern."

Pros: "The whole process was smooth. And although I missed/didn’t recall the halal food option when booking the tickets online, the crew member was able to advise fast and make swift adjustment!"
Cons: "There’s no earphone provided onboard, and entertainment thus was lacking! Also, there should be more varieties of newspapers provided!"

Cons: "Quality of ear bud is bad. Not allowed to use electronic device on the plane even in flight mode which is ridiculous because they allow laptops and ipads!!"

Cons: "This flight was very uncomfortable. The cabin was very noisy, seemed more so than usual. The headphones for the entertainment are useless and of very poor quality. There was three movie choices and only one in English."
Cons: "No one to assist my friends enter the plane. No one to help with hauling minor carryon baggage up the outdoor staircase. Very difficult and no offer at all for anyone in a party of six to help. No lift and no one offered assistance in business class to help at all.once on the plane service was outstanding. Passengers in 70s and 80’s and no knowledge of the need to to climb stairs and without any assistance. Attendants watched the elderly struggle."
Pros: "Nothing about this experience was acceptable nevermind enjoyable."
Cons: "Due to some strangely worded "regulations" regarding layovers in China I was barred entry to my flight. China Eastern made no effort in helping me; essentially pointing the finger at the online booking agent (Kayak/Justfly) who in turn, pointed their fingers back at the airline. All parties refused to process my ticket OR refund my cost. Eventually I bought an additional ticket directly to the city of the final leg of my itinerary so as to avoid the visa restrictions on multi-city layovers. Only to find that China Eastern would NOT honor the ticket from Kunming to Vancouver as I had not been on the first two legs. Again, no solution was offered and no refund provided from China Eastern, Kayak or Justfly."
Pros: "The fact that I did eventually get to my destination in one piece."
Cons: "Being delayed over 8 hours and offered nothing in the way of compensation despite asking."
Pros: "The people were friendly and helpful. They genuinely wanted me to feel comfortable. This gets a double thumbs up from me!!!"

Pros: "Food was OK but they took forever to get themselves organised."
Cons: "I was sat in row 31 - the first in economy which was right next to the galley. The attendants spent the best part of the 1st 90 minutes of the flight congregating in the galley and constantly opening and shutting the curtains and opening and shutting doors. They were loud and in a world of their own. Didn't seem like they wanted to have anything to do with the passengers. A glass of water was served after half an hour but for the next hour before they started the food service there was a continual stream of passengers coming up to the galley asking for more water. The attendants from business/first were also constantly coming back and forth to this galley so it was noisy, busy and frustrating to be sitting right next to it all. Lord knows what was in the cupboard in front of seat 31 but the crew must have opened and closed it at least 30-40 times during the flight and each and every time they let the door swing right back and hit me in the knee. Frustrating? I'll say so! Entertainment - well, there was a fixed screen above me but it was a fragmented video - think trailers at the movies - except it was moving from one shot to the next at such speed, I couldn't catch half of the sub-titles. It would have been an ideal time to close my eyes and catch a few zzzz's but for the darned noise in the galley :("
Pros: "The journey was smooth, the seat was comfortable enough. Food was decent."
Cons: "I took 2 connecting flights back home, both flights were delayed by 2h and 1.5h respectively. No estimated new departure time was given, and the staff took very long (well after the supposed departure time) before they made an announcement for us to apologise for the delay. Service was mediocre. Half the time the crew was no where in sight, so it was difficult to ask them for something. When pressing the bell for service, they also took very long to respond. Once, when i had asked a steward for water, he was busy and told me to go to the back of the airplane to get it myself."
Cons: "Flight was delayed and no heat in the gate area so we were freezing and could not get food. Food on the plane was horrific. We had a stop where we were not supposed to get of the plan, but we had to get off and go through customs. I would not recommend China eastern to anyone."
Pros: "The flight was fine - the crew were very attentive and everything went smoothly."
Cons: "There was an employee of China Eastern at the gate to the plane taking people's water and telling them that they could not bring water on the flight. There is no way that is legit or ok, especially when water is sometimes hard to come by because staff members are busy and only give you a small amount each time they come around."
Pros: "Overall, the China Eastern portion of the trip was great. I would definitely fly China Eastern again."
Cons: "The food was not to my expectations."
Cons: "Late boarding/departure (40+ mins delay). Poor food quality (no choices). Insistence on having all phones turned off during the ENTIRE flight, and having flight attendants enforce that rule, which is an archaic policy that no self-respecting airline does anymore."

Cons: "The fact that I was not allowed to board plane,that ticket was sold to me with airline knowing an American can not have a layover of more than 24 hrs, that my son whom I never got to see be born had to be without his dad longer now and that airline would not give waiver voucher so that I'd be allowed full refund...both staff at airport n corporate have no communication with each other...corporate said because I'm an American citizen I'm allowed to pass threw but airport said corporate was wrong"
Cons: "1. The flight delay. 2. Horrible food. 3. In-flight entertainment set wasn't working. When we told the stewardess about it, it wasn't addressed till the flight was about to land. Which was by then, rather useless. They gave a a complimentary bottle of wine though."
Pros: "Outside of making it safely to Singapore, there was nothing good about the experience."
Cons: "Its just abundantly clear they don't care about their customers at all. The crew is rude and officious and blatantly would just ignore customers trying to get their help, they will force you to keep all electronics to be off for 30 minutes after takeoff and before landing (literally taking them out of your hands) regardless of if they are in airplane mode or even have a wifi signal or are just a kindle, they will not permit the use of mobile phones at any point in the flight and again will take them out of your hand even in airplane mode to listen to music or type notes etc., the food is terrible, they came through once with drinks on a 6 hour flight (thank god I bought some water in the airport beforehand), the plane was noticeably decades old with chairs and table trays falling apart, entertainment did not exist which was made all the more noticeable because your electronics were taken away. My bag was broken and an entire shell for it was missing by the time it got to Singapore. And Shanghai is the worst airport for a layover I've ever been in -- it's a dump of an airport, has very few food options, terrible wifi, you are blocked from accessing basic websites like Google and Facebook, and you have to go through an entirely new security and checkin procedure, which is onerous, even though you did one in Japan. The boarding is slow and terrible, and the flight was delayed sitting on the tarmac for 40 minutes without even an attempt to apologize or explain for the delay. And it seems this behavior and approach is just normal based on other people I've talked to. It's. it hard to make flying a little more pleasant with basic courtesies but China Eastern seems to find a way to take every one of those opportunities to male your experience worse."
Pros: "I actually missed my flight one whole day but airline charged me only 100$ for another ticket."
